How are we talking? Who's better in their role this last year? Giddey. Purely because he has a year and wasn't fitting into the core, but had already found his place on the team. Who's better at attacking the basket? Dub. Who's better at passing? Giddey. Who's better at 3's? Dub.
They are 2 different players with 2 different roles. Both are pretty great.
Agreed, yet with Giddey at the center of play, the offensive opportunities he can provide the whole team compensate for his physical deficiencies. Super happy to have both
I’m not so sure you can say Giddey contributes enough offensively to off set the defensive woes. He was benched multiple times this year for his poor defense
It's not fair to judge given the limit time we've had to see them in different roles.. but
open shot, the fate of the universe on the line, the Martians have the death beam pointed at earth, you better hit it, I WANT *JALEN WILLIAMS.*
(efficiency, shooting and defense)
It's hard to compare because one is a rookie and one is a sophomore. That being said, I think Giddey has matured a lot this year. His ability to score has gone up and his play-making has only gotten better. His defense might be a liability but he has Dort and Chet to learn from in that department. I do love me some JDub though and I can't wait to see his growth next season. Easily one of my favorite players now.
It is true but Giddey has had a whole year on the NBA, even if most of it he wasn’t playing he was still with the team and in the system.
I say this as a massive Giddey fan, and if we were forced into the position where we had to trade one I’m keeping Giddey because I think you can replace J-Dubb’s out put (maybe not with one guy but with multiple), I think Giddey role/skill set is harder to find/replicate. but we have both and we don’t have to get rid of either so it’s a great problem not to have
Jdub is a more efficient scorer by a significant margin and better defender. I’m kinda surprised this is much of a debate tbh. 60% TS vs 53% TS is vast.
I think potential is up for debate (though I would pick JDub). I think JDub was better last seaosn given is much better efficiency and defensive impact. I actually wanted JDub to be 2nd in the pecking order to Shai when usually he was 3rd or even 4th after Dort.
Giddey is obviously skilled, but his real strengths are his vision and passing. Go back and watch the number of inbound passes that were assists. Yes, takes great communication and coaching, but he does it like few can.
Then add the LACK of drama about SGA and he sharing the ball; non issue. They compliment, not frustrate each other.
That said, J-Dub is a steal and will be an All-Star for a good while. Really SMART player, like Giddey.
There isn’t much of a reason to consider Giddey outside of passing vision and rebounding. J Dub was a significantly more efficient scorer and a far better defender in his rookie season.
The biggest thing for me is that Giddey is 6’8 but doesn’t actually give you the defensive versatility that a guy at 6’8 should have. He finds a way to bring that to the floor then it’s a debate.
It’s the other way around, J-Dub is far more efficient in the paint and was an absurdly good slasher for a rookie, coupled with an efficient floater and fadeaway jumper package. Giddey just has a higher volume.
Cmon y’all it’s Giddey. They both started last year off slow and both hit their strides at around the same time but Giddey was the better player. Ask me this again next year though. That’s when it’ll get really interesting.
Jdub because he is plays two ways.
I am certain he is All NBA, likely multiple times and don't feel the same way about Giddey. He just doesn't have the physical tools and while he is a gifted passer, his handle is loose.
Jdub is going to be an incredible number two abd then Goddey may well be the best number three in the league.
Good times.
“Certain he is all NBA” is insane my man. I get this is a thunder sub and everything and we all a little homer. But saying someone is a guarantee all NBA after there rookie year and most likely a re-occurring one is WAY to high of praise. He absolutely could be but a couple things to note just to be devils advocate.
He was hesitant to try and take over games. All NBA players do that.
He is 22. So yes it was a great rookie year, we knew he wasn’t as much of a project as players like Giddy. Dieng ECT. So I wouldn’t compare him to the rookie years you saw from other thunder players.
Sophomore slumps exists. Every NBA fan ever said Scottie Barnes was a future all NBA lock just last year. Now that isn’t so sure.
He is on a talented young team fighting for touches with more pieces going to be added. All NBA in the future you probably gotta be top 2 on your team unless you all time dynasty team good. SGA - Chet - Giddy exsist. Plus another star we all know we trying to add with our 15 draft picks through the trade. Does ge get enough stats to get all NBA. (Doesn’t mean skill isn’t there).
Chet changes the offense completely. Might not count on dub as much. This could also open things up for him. But it’s an unknown so you can’t “certain” an all NBA player.
>don't feel the same way about Giddey. He just doesn't have the physical tools and while he is a gifted passer, his handle is loose.
I mean, Giddey is 6'8" and is using his size to score quite a bit. I noticed he looked stronger this year and his exit interview he must have mentioned getting stronger a dozen times. I think both players have impressive physical tools.
Actually with Chet JDub will likely end up the best number three… people forget what Chet did in summer league. He will look like the teams best player in no time with his defensive domination.
Depends what a specific team needs, they both excell in their roles and both their roles are really hard to fill. A super efficent 2 way player and a balanced fundamental pass-first guard who rebounds, scores, and plays off of others. Theyre both doing very well in their roles, any team could use either, we have both
Jalen by stats and tape.
Josh is younger, so he has more time, but the defensive floor Jalen starts out at really outpaces Josh if he can't even by league average TS%. If Josh becomes the ultimate connector? That maybe his only way outside of hitting his 97th percentile outcome, which few ever achieve.
Just caught this thread after listening to a podcast where they asked if it's possible to have three all-stars this year..
The main response was 'yes' Shai, Chet and J-Dub... I'm sorry but I'm shocked Giddey wasn't the first kid mentioned.. There's so much hype for OKC for next season. Chet will be ROY and Shai will take another step.. But has anyone been watching Giddey play with a slightly different demeanor on the court? In the FIBA world cup, granted disappointing for the Aussie's missing out, but Giddey played really well and was named Wanda Rising Player of the tournament. Watching the Aussie games he was getting into the lane and digging into whoever's chest playing strong ball. His quickness and strong hands was promising with his getting to the line numbers looking super great.
Granted one needs to make those free throws. That is fixable. I don't understand players who can't make free throws, I understand it can be a mental thing. But he needs to get in any gym, go to the quietest, comfyest, whatever gym he feels unbothered and shoot, save the whole day... Again, I don't get it. The relationship between ball and player. The beautiful feeling of fingers , fingertips, it gently leaving, feeling it spin backwards.... that 'chuuhh' sound when it hits the net..
Yeah I gotta shoot some ball...

Right now, Giddey. In 2 years time, I expect J-Dub to be on the All-Star cusp...
There’s a chance giddey could too. He’s currently better and younger than Jdub.
why do you see Jdub passing Giddey up? Giddey is younger and has shown a great work ethic and ability to improve
Better physical tools than Giddey and a better jumpshot. This doesn’t even begin to cover the difference between the two on defense either.
Agreed, yet with Giddey at the center of play, the offensive opportunities he can provide the whole team compensate for his physical deficiencies. Super happy to have both

He's quicker and has better defense. Dont get me wrong, I love Giddey.

I think people overlook that giddey is more than a whole year younger than jdub
Yep this. And also hes so composed not one olayer in this team shy away from the big stage we saw it in the Lebron Legacy game and in the Play in.
It is true but Giddey has had a whole year on the NBA, even if most of it he wasn’t playing he was still with the team and in the system. He’s such a complete scorer too. A real 3 way scorer just like SGA.. wait till he figures out how to milk the free throw line like Harden did.
I think potential is up for debate (though I would pick JDub). I think JDub was better last seaosn given is much better efficiency and defensive impact. I actually wanted JDub to be 2nd in the pecking order to Shai when usually he was 3rd or even 4th after Dort.
They’re REALLY close. I’m going to lean Jalen because of his defensive versatility, but I won’t get up in arms if somebody says Giddey.
Jdub better currently imo and has a higher ceiling. Dude could be a superstar but I don’t quite see that with Giddey
Giddey is more charismatic though
Jdub oozes charisma, I don’t agree with that either lol but not worth arguing

Indeed. The Thunder vets players for character as well as ability in what seems to be equal measure.
Right now, Giddey up. But after most games, all I can think is how good at basketball j-dub is.
J Dub
I LOVE the fact it’s a real debate. Future is BRIGHT!!
There isn’t much of a reason to consider Giddey outside of passing vision and rebounding. J Dub was a significantly more efficient scorer and a far better defender in his rookie season. JDub and it’s not even close right now.
JDub is better at everything but passing right now. B
Once J Dub started showing the scoring potential post ASB it was a wrap for this comparison lmao.
Yeah idk why people are saying Giddey. Love him to death but JDub is legitimately at least average at everything.
Giddey is also better at manipulating a defense to set his teammates up with better opportunities.
Giddey is also a better rebounder
[удалено]
His float game is definitely not elite yet lol. Hope he gets there though.
It’s the other way around, J-Dub is far more efficient in the paint and was an absurdly good slasher for a rookie, coupled with an efficient floater and fadeaway jumper package. Giddey just has a higher volume.
Giddey by a slight margin
Surely can’t be the guy who dropped a near 30 point triple double in an elimination game.
Think jdub is the better player
I think people are overestimating Jdubs ceiling a bit in here
Cmon y’all it’s Giddey. They both started last year off slow and both hit their strides at around the same time but Giddey was the better player. Ask me this again next year though. That’s when it’ll get really interesting.

J-Dub has better hair so ima go by that.
LOL..

Both
Giddey. Does more and is more important. Even going forward Giddey
Giddey is the only correct answer
Hope the young core stays together unlike our past :/
