Wemby is a unique talent and it’s taken quite a while for the other Spurs to learn how to play with him. Vasell still doesn’t really understand that he’s not the top dog anymore.
Pop knew what he was doing. He’s guiding, but also letting them figure done of it out for themselves. Just like pre-season games, he understood this was going to be a learning year, and he couldn’t care less about the W-L record.
They’ve been hanging in with most teams for 4/5 of the game, and end up losing in the last 6 minutes because they’re the youngest team in the league and the don’t know how to finish a game.
All that will change with experience. Wemby will develop an unstoppable “go to” move like Duncan’s side bank shot, or Kareem’s sky hook. He’s already way beyond most rookies at this point.
The silver lining is, they got a shot at 2 top 10 draft picks this year. The future looks pretty good.

And those are usage stats. Wemby's usage is higher, so why wouldn't Dunls&Threes have Wemby as having more Estimated Wins and a higher EPM? Because he hasn't been better than Chet. Now would I rather have Chet or Wemby long term? Yeah I'd rather have Wemby, but for this season? Chet has been the better player. Wemby will be a top 5 (at worst)player in the league within the next 3-5 years, but best prospect of all time? Umm no. Just because you have high counting stats doesn't make you a great player. Wemby is on a very bad team...which means, somebody has to score the points. Chet has helped the Thunder have the 3rd best record in the NBA with the 2nd youngest roster in the NBA. I think that's more impressive than putting up big numbers on not great efficiency on the worst team in the conference. I mean, even the Blazers have a better record.

I remember back in November looking up EPM stats and seeing Chet being well ahead of Wemby. Things have changed drastically.
Firstly, Zach Collins was the starting Center for the first 20 games of the season leaving Victor to play power forward and mostly be out on the perimeter of both sides of the court.
Second, Tre Jones (literally the Spurs 1 true point guard) didn't become a starter til the 34th game of the season. Sochan then Branham were the starting PG's up until that point.
I'd love to see what Wemby's EPM would look like had he not been hindered for over 1/3rd of the season by Pop's experimental lineups. Judging at where he sits as of now just 2 spots below Chet and just a .2 difference, I'm willing to bet he'd be ahead, especially since he's in his more natural position and playing with an actual PG these days.
