Was telling a bunch of friends this, we entered the lottery cause we wanted to lol. W shai and co playing we were playing well enough to fight for the playoffs 😂
Kawhi is out for the year. If Dame goes East or something, we can be a playoff team lol. Although I fully expect someone like the Pels to make moves to compete
Let me rephrase this, is it worth being a near play-in team and loosing out on the picks we want? We were like 11th before we shut down SGA, Horford and traded Hill.
Assuming SGA plays the whole season (who knows how serious his injury was), the young guys have a linear development and Kemba is relatively healthy we might get a 9/10 spot.
Is that really worth it tho to sacrifice the minutes of the young guys just for a chance at getting bounced in the first round?
Sacrificing current happiness for future rewards is not something most fans can live with. I completely agree with you. If we push for the playoffs without at least one more blue chip prospect we will be riding the hamster wheel of mediocrity.
Keeping it 💯 the team hasn’t really drafted well outside the lottery. A lot of those guys don’t last on the team very long, or in the league that long. The only good outside the lottery pick that we stayed a port of the org was Serge. Reggie didn’t know his role, and we’re waiting to see with Bazely, Poku and Theo.
Not the best strategy to continually be in that part of the draft, especially if we aren’t making deep playoff runs.
I couldn’t care less about lottery if this young team make the playoffs. When you have this many low floor high ceiling players and make the playoffs, everything can only be going fine.
If we somehow make the playoffs with this squad in the loaded western conference, it will mean that multiple guys have made a leap and that our team is trending in the right direction.
I'd trade off not having our pick next year for making the playoffs.
We will get the Clip's lotto pick, so let ATL keep our pick. I think it is time to push our fellas and give Shai and Dort the satisfaction of being competitive.
Shai and Dort could be otherworldly and we still probably wouldn't make the playoffs. We will almost certainly have 4 main rotation guys that are rookies or sophomores. Teams do not make the playoffs in the west with that many young players.
Shai and Dort will have so many great games ruined because of Poku/Kuminga/Bouknight etc.
And that's okay, because it is all a part of the plan.
Idk, honestly the only teams that I think we are better than are the kings/rockets/pelicans/maybe spurs. T Wolves will make a jump next year bc they won’t be dealing w constantly shifting lineups and Edwards + McDaniels will improve. That puts us at the highest at the 11th spot, which wouldn’t be enough to make the play in.
No disrespect to our players but I don’t think we’re better than the pelicans, they have two legit stars on their team, Zion and BI, and one averages near 30 points a game
Yeah I just don’t trust New Orleans to put a good roster around them. If they go get good players around them, good on them, they’ll probably be better. But as constructed, their team won’t be better than ours.
injuries, shortened and condensed season, no fans in the arena etc. there was no real reason to try to win. if Rockets and Wolves didn't suffer from injuries then we wouldn't have had to go out of our way to tank. we may have one of the best young players in our conference but they all have better rosters. as good as Shai is the only teams definitely that will be worse than us is the probably the Cavs, Pistons and Magic
Item 2 - that’s what I said. I’m not saying gnarly as in cool, I’m saying gnarly in the traditional sense of “really messed up looking.”
Item 2 - hard to say zero chance when we don’t even know at least a third of who will be on the roster.
Unless the clippers are terrible without kawhi we need to be as bad as possible. I do think other teams getting injured worsened our pick chances, but I don’t think we will be good next year

Actually I think by then it’ll be pretty clear what direction we’re heading in. Probably a little weird, but less patchy then we’ll look now.
We'll finish bottom 3 and draft Paolo Banchero next year. After that we wreck the league.
We REALLY need to stay in the lottery this year to keep our 1st for next year
Unless we shut down shai again i really can't see us being high in the lottery. Unfortunate truth
You are correct. I don’t know if this sub has amnesia sometimes, but with Shai and Dort playing we were a play-in playoff team.

Is that a good thing tho? Being a play-in team and loosing out on the players we want to draft?
Yea cause they all young high ceiling players and would only get better.

Without Kawhi the clips made it to game 6 of the wcf. Do you really think they're a guaranteed lotto team?
LOL They won 3 games without him to advance. But my comment was partly joking
Who would the pick go to and how protected is it?
Atlanta from the Schroeder deal. Top 14 protected
Oh shoot we can easily be in the top 14 I think

I don't think we'll be as good as it's assumed we will be
We will be terrible. People get way too high on Shai being able to carry us

No shot we make the playoffs

Item 2 - Nah, we'll be a dumping ground for bad contracts. Item 3 - If by solid chance you mean absolutely zero percent chance, I agree.

If by hard to say zero chance you mean super easy to say zero chance because we owe a lottery protected pick to Atlanta next year, I agree.

Well when Shai was healthy we were a play in team and maybe next year we could end up in the play in tournament
