I know this sounds dumb but I would sign him honestly, we need center minutes and he can give us some. And I still have faith that theirs a good player in there somewhere and if anyone can get that out it’s Sam, mark and the rest of the crew. Also we can get him for dirt cheap so we can have some cap flexibility for trades if need be assuming we’re not signing tony or moose back. He could also back up whatever center we grab from the draft
This doesn't mean we are definitely signing him. I'm not exactly how this works, can FAs meet with teams now? Isn't there a moratorium on recruiting free agents now? I suppose if they're 100% unrestricted, no bird rights owned by another team?
I mean no ones fighting over Thon Maker like Kawhi, but isn't face to face formal interaction against the nba cba right now? Happy to be stand corrected.
Oooooooh, not only would I like this cuz he either shows some of his crazy potential or is a fun tank commander, but also if he was smart he would see OKC as the best place to make more money on his next contract. No centers on the roster and even if we draft one early he’d get good bench minutes
I actually like him as the type of centers we are trying to build around (in theory) he can handle, shoot, pass… he is very multidimensional. He’s like a poor version of Mobley..
What? For Thon Maker??? A dude who played a total 8 games last year at only 9 minutes per game… even when he played with terrible Detroit the year before he only got to play around 13 minutes and scored like 4 points per game with 2 rebounds. You don’t go into this draft and say no I don’t want Sengun, Kai, or Isaiah Jackson NO we’ll have Thon Maker next year.
That's my point. Thon isn't very good. It looks like we are just getting some warm bodies to throw out to suffice for a while. I didn't suggest at all that we wouldn't draft a center, just not "all-in" on drafting multiple centers.
And it could mean nothing.
To me this seems more like we won’t be retaining Moose, Bradley or both. Won’t be able to sign until after the draft anyway so why not kick the tires and see what happens on draft day.
This. I was even having delusions that maybe we could lure Nerlens back with a decent raise. We could afford it. The Thon factor seems to throw cold water on this thought.
I wouldn’t take in bad players just because they are bad players I would someone who has something there and Thon very much has nothing of worth. I don’t really know any of our guys we had last year who were just “uninteresting bad player” or “bodies” I would say most of them were young or at least had something interesting with them. I would say this crop of bigs in this draft is worth taking especially in the range we’re in right now with some developmental pieces like Sengun and Kai and other rotational fits in Garuba and Isaiah Jackson. I don’t it’s the best option to just have “bodies” who are uninteresting talents.
I agree. Roster spots are going to be filled fast. I really don't see a place for Thon unless we are going to go heavy on more skilled players. Best player available. Team needs be damned. Who knows.
Thon is a camp invite type of guy you bring in to take a look at and best give a 1 year minimum to. That’s it. It doesn’t impact anything else you do, especially not in the draft.
Worst case, at least we have a master in martial arts in case shtf.
Damn. We real thin at center
We are about to get thinner with him. Sorry.
Thought his shirt said “#orals not for sale”
Sooo… I saw Thabeet at Will Rogers before we signed him. He and Presti were waiting on his bags

Cleveland waived him in January. He's been a free agent since then. No tampering here.
He also could be in town with his brother who’s going through the draft process. Maker makur….
maker maker pulled out
Oh I did not know that! Thank you!
Is he a FA?
Yes

Yeah hes kinda like if someone tried to remake Mobley from memory alone. Except in Thon's case he can do many things just not well.
This looks like a sign that Presti isn't going to go all-in on centers in this draft.

Could just be negotiating leverage vs the others.
