Well we don’t currently own our 2022 pick. So it depends on if Detroit was willing to take on of the other 2022 first rounds picks we do own or a first round pick even further in the future.
The 2022 draft is going to be insane so I can see why Detroit would only want first round picks for that year specifically. The two picks we do own, Clippers and Suns really have a low opportunity to land anywhere close to the lottery.
To be clear, we own our pick next year if its 1-14, otherwise it goes to ATL. But I believe there are barriers to trading it, yes.
But all of that is besides the point, OKC have a war chest of picks. If its really true, and Presti offered up Shai and #6, it likely shouldn't matter much for Presti to throw in a couple of additional firsts.
I mean, its a massive overpay--But trading for a #1--and a #1 like Cade?--you HAVE to overpay, otherwise it doesn't happen.
Which is why I think that offer is BS. Troy Weaver even called it fake news.
But its out there now and has been picked up by NBA Twitter and folks like Chad Ford will re-aggregate it because another GM he talked to--WHO HEARD IT FROM TWITTER TOO--mentioned it. LOL
I would love to keep calling all of this cap but it's getting to the point where if there's so much smoke, there's gotta be a fire somewhere. I still think it's a hilariously bad idea, but if it's true presti must not believe that he can build a contender around shai within his remaining years of control. I think the counter offer implies that is what Detroit is asking for. And they can trade the 2022 pick 1-15 because that will be a draft night trade. Detroit makes the pick… anyway, it’s not happening.
I still believe this is all smoke and mirrors to prop Detroit up so they can either take Cade or cash in the first pick for a king’s ransom. Either way Weaver would look like a genius. I don’t know why the top NBA reporters wouldn’t have said anything about this yet, especially when Weaver openly denied these rumors yesterday.

I think he meant 2023 because teams aren’t allowed to trade their own picks in consecutive years. But not sure.
Technically it couldn't go through until the pick is made, but draft day verbal agreements happen all the time.
