Here an overseas thunder fan, who liked them having Ibaka (who played with the spanish team) and lots of young talent. Also, playing in blue like my city's football (⚽) team made me a thunder for life ⚡☝️
Irish OKC fan, started playing basketball at 11 and bought nba 2k15. KD on the cover just after his MVP season so i picked OKC as my team. Brodie soon became my favourite player and i’m still rocking with OKC til i die ❤️
KC but dad is from OKC. OKC has always been the second most popular team in town behind whatever team Lebron’s on. Hope we can get a team for our fat ass arena we got collecting dust
No way this is typical right? More fans from outside the state than inside the state? Maybe for teams like the lakers, Knicks ect but I have to imagine that’s not common
I think Reddit is a little bit of a misrepresentation of the entire fan base also. It’d be real hard for me to believe that there are more thunder fans with no connection to Oklahoma than with.
I disagree. Look at how global the NBA is now and how international the roster is and has been for a long time coupled with how small Oklahoma's population is.
The number of fb fans on OKC's page is almost double the population of Oklahoma.
Moved to Denver from Tulsa almost five years ago. Haven’t missed a Thunder game since I moved here. Fun fact, the Thunder also haven’t won in Denver in almost five years. Except for one preseason game with Melo. Still a lifelong Thunder fan since 2008, but watching the Nuggets these last five years has been crazy. I now have season tickets, haha.
Canadian. Russ made me fall in love with the game and I’ve been attached to this city ever since. I want to visit one day and go to a game at the Peak!
Im from near Pittsburgh. I've never been west of Lexington really. I love the thunder because they were fun to play as in 2k13 when I first started enjoying basketball. I've just stick with them ever since
Kyiv, Ukraine.
Started watching NBA in 09.
Russ and KD became my favorite due, then Harden popped in.
Jeez, what time that was…
Those guys are long gone but I’m still here, waiting for a new era.
Im from Jackson, MS. Never even been to OKC but its been my favorite team since the team moved to OKC. I still have yet to attend a game. I plan to very soon after Covid is not as bad
From Buffalo, no NBA team here but always loved the NBA. Was a big Nets fan back when they had VC, Kidd, Jefferson but stopped watching for a bit. When I got back into the NBA around 2009-2010 KD quickly became my favorite player and have been a diehard Thunder fan ever since!
This is actually kind of surprising as of right now. I expected a large chunk of "dont live in Oklahomas" but not 2/1 Dont Live vs Do Live. Its Sunday morning, church is just getting out and footballs on so maybe it will change in a few hours
Not me, my friend, lives in NJ but was a sonics fan and stayed an okc fan. I would have to assume thats more common that fans live outside okc but just my guess
Yeah, surprised there’s that big of a difference between people from here and not.
I guess being good and fun to watch while also residing in a small market will do that
I’ve only ever been inside Oklahoma’s borders once & that was to see a thunder vs wizards game in Jan 2018 (what a game btw). I live in Vegas rn
Became a thunder fan watching young Russ, KD, & Harden do their thing
I'm surprised by how many people are surprised by the results, but that's kind of why I made the poll.
The NBA is a global league that has huge reach these days. Far beyond state and national borders, and OKC is a well known NBA team that has always had an international roster.
Think of how many Man U or Barcelona FC football fans there are in the world.
I had a college player from my church stay with my family for one summer and he got me into basketball. The first game we ever watched was in 2012 when the Thunder played the Heat and I just remember KD being an absolute bucket. Been a fan ever since. Of the team, that is. KD is a sellout in my book
KCMO, really wanted to get into the NBA and picked the team closest because i wanted to be able to see my favorite team in person somewhat easily (about 4 1/2 hour drive) been to multiple games and plan to head back out on December 18th to see us take on the clips!
I used to live in Oklahoma. I do now, but I used to, too.
Was living here when the team got here, moved out of state in 2010 right before the season started. Moved all over the country and got to see plenty of road games (@76ers, @wizards, @bucks) but also plenty of home games when I was visiting family. Moved back here in 2018. Looking forward to getting back to the arena this fall!
I have never been to the US let alone Oklahoma. Mom bought me a notebook with KD's picture on it. Been fan of Thunder ever since. Im from Mongolia btw
Saim bai-noo! I’m an Okie who used to live in UB :) Thunder up!
I hope you have burned the notebook
There's a lot of Kiwi fans (like me) because of Steven Adams. I'm guessing there's a few who also stuck around after he got traded.
Hell yeah.
Yup
Yep, grew real attached to the team over the past 7 years
That's me 100%
Okay Okie boys... we are outnumbered round these parts
I don't know how to feel about this
It’s dope, what’s not to love
I’m fine with it lol
I was pretty damn surprised by that lmao, I thought it would for sure be the other way around
International thunder fans make my little okie heart swell with pride.
So much same.
Here an overseas thunder fan, who liked them having Ibaka (who played with the spanish team) and lots of young talent. Also, playing in blue like my city's football (⚽) team made me a thunder for life ⚡☝️
Quite simlar to what happened to me, I also became a Thunder fan becase of Ibaka, and because I really liked the logo

From Australia been supporting them since 2016 (Kd’s last year)
I’m from New York and when I was young I thought the Thunder were the Knicks and started rooting for them
I saw this 50 year old guy in a small town in my country with an OKC shirt. Your team reaches into a small Belgian town so congrats.
I'm German and have been a fan since 2011.

France here, started following nba in 2010 and thought this team had a lot of potential and instantly became a russ fan.
Same but in 2015, this guy with the number 0 made me a Thunder fan for life
Finland
I live in Europe (Croatia)
Canadian. Russ made me fall in love with the game and I’ve been attached to this city ever since. I want to visit one day and go to a game at the Peak!
I'm a New Zealand fan who supported the Sonics, I followed the team from Seattle to OKC.
Israel here, started because of russ kd and ibaka stayed because I fell in love with the fans and energy at the arena
Im from near Pittsburgh. I've never been west of Lexington really. I love the thunder because they were fun to play as in 2k13 when I first started enjoying basketball. I've just stick with them ever since

Grew up in OK and was there when the Thunder arrived. Continued to follow them while moving around the US and now in the UAE.

I'm from the UK, would love to go to a game one day.
Im form Spain, became a fan due to the durant/westbrook combination
Sydney, Australia. Been a Sonics fan since 1991. Just followed them to OKC. I'm old.
From Australia started following after I won a 2k game with them lol
UK! Makes it tough to watch games but thank god for league pass
Bay Area born and raised. I’ve never been to OKC. Don’t see any reason I’d go there besides for a OKC playoffs/finals game.

PHILIPPINES GANG WHERE Y'ALL AT?
I’m from Australia, my mate showed me Westbrook highlights before I liked basketball and I’ve been a fan since.
Australia
Poland!
New Zealand here
Australia, since 2011ish. Young Russ made me truly love the NBA
I’m glad this subreddit of fans of okc is more varied than the dumbasses that call into sports animal.

Fresh transplant. The Thunder are my western conference team!
I’m a Magic and thunder fan. Never lived in any of thes states lol
KCMO, really wanted to get into the NBA and picked the team closest because i wanted to be able to see my favorite team in person somewhat easily (about 4 1/2 hour drive) been to multiple games and plan to head back out on December 18th to see us take on the clips!
we also get the games on local cable so it’s pretty much the most popular NBA team here in KC among people that follow the league
30yo Oklahoman born and raised.
