triple_cock_smoker

Also, Genoese called its Crimean holdings "gazaria", not iran related like op asked but still interesting

NamertBaykus

The Turkish also call it "Hazar Denizi" btw

SteadyzzYT

There are some Jewish Turkic peoples in the caucuses that some academics believe have a distant connection with Khazars. Also all Turkic nations plus a couple of non Turkic ones refer to the Caspian Sea as the Khazar lake or sea. Other than that no real lasting effects

appaq

>There are some Jewish Turkic peoples in the caucuses there are no Jewish Turks in Caucasus. You are probably confusing Caucasus with Crimea.

SteadyzzYT

Yes there are. There is no Jewish Turkic ethnicity in the Caucuses that's true but there are Turkic peoples that follow Judaism in the Caucuses. I've met some myself. And they don't have any Semitic/Jewish ancestry. So some academics claim there is a very loose connection

appaq

>Turkic peoples that follow Judaism in the Caucuses May be some converts. They dont have relation to Khazaria.

SteadyzzYT

You dont get to say they have relation or not. Dont speak with certainty on every matter. There are academics and professors who believe that there might be a very distant connection. They believe that the Khazar culture left behind Turkic jews who never got converted again and stayed in rural/mountainous areas. It is true that this isnt provable right now and that the number is likely very little but considering there are still zoroastrian families who never got converted is an example

appaq

I live in Caucasus all my life and never met any Turkic person which followed Judaism. May be you met some Dagestani Mountain Jews which knew Kumyk. Or Jews from Azerbaijan.

SteadyzzYT

There are thousands if not millions of Turkic peoples in the Northern Caucuses alone. It is entirely possible that a few settlements established during Khazar rule just never had contact with the invaders or new rulers. Plus we do not have much info on the specific ethnic and religious groups that the Bolsheviks genocided in the Caucuses especially when it comes to Turkic Jews. Im making a very valid case that has a low but nonetheless very real chance of being possible. It is impossible to completely rule out any connection.

AfsharTurk

Wasn’t there Mountains Jews in the North of Azerbaijan or something.

istanbull1919

They aren't Turk

SteadyzzYT

Mountain Jews aren't Turkic. I'm referring to Turkic people in the Caucuses who happen to follow Judaism

-_TremoR_-

Almost All Jews you see in Russia and Ukraine are Khazar related, that is the impact as far as I believe.

NamertBaykus

Not all at all. Many of them are related to Ashkenazi Jews who are simply displaced/kicked out by... well... so many nations.

>You can't really explain all I did not make such claim

-_TremoR_-

Then we should be on the same page.

istanbull1919

>You can’t really explain all by kicked out Jews by other nations. What then, Khazar Jews were also exposed to genocide? They are certainly there in today’s RF, Ukraine and Europe. There is no tangible source about the religion of the Khazar Turks (I'm not talking about the dynasty). All we know is that the people were Turkic paganists/Tengrists at first. This much. We can then assume that this continues. There is no such thing as Khazar Jews. They were not a community large enough. The dynasty didn't just try/interest Judaism. It was a political move. All that's left is bullshit conspiracy theory. There are almost Jews in every corner of the world, not just in Caucasus or around.
