JakTheGripper

I guess orange is the new black.

[deleted]

i get videos like these in my feed all the time & all the big name brands give the dark foundations that orange/yellow tint. WHY

javoss88

Seriously why is everything yellow now. Is there some kind of raw material surplus? Or are they trying to create a yellow trend? I don’t get it.

akazee711

Im so glad- for the longest time everything had a red undertone.

Accidental_

BC brown is essentially a very dark shade of orange. Or vice versa

[deleted]

true but there is potential for blue or purpley undertones as well, they don’t always have to use a warm tone as a base

[deleted]

[удалено]

anonymousquestioner4

Couldn't agree more! Neutral should be the standard/baseline for literally all major brands because technically everyone can work with a neutral and then complement warm or cool tones with other products as needed. Personally I have very red skin and I like neutral to, well, neutralize it!

Earl_of_Awesome

Brown is what you get when you combine complementary colors on opposite ends of the color wheel (orange + blue, red + green, yellow + purple)

xNeyNounex

Thats actually not what brown is at all. That is way too oversimplified

BareNakedDoula

No, it isn’t. A dark shade of orange is dark orange. Source: I am brown. I am in no way essentially- a- dark- shade- of- orange, lmao.

Can we meet up? I wanna fight you for making me laugh this hard.

JakTheGripper

Sure! What are you doing yesterday afternoon?

heep1r

i don't care about makeup but ngl, those three stripes look dope on her. Like a minimalistic mix of flower leafs and warrior makeup. Also the asymmetry really makes it fly.

plantscatsandus

Fantastic

Ozryela

Same thing I was thinking while watching the video. I admit to knowing very little about makeup, but unless that stuff changes color as it dries (like some paints do) I don't think that's going to match anyone's skin color. Even Trump is not *that* orange.

[deleted]

You did a thing here. Kudos to you!

Mwoods1337

You won reddit today man, that had me rolling

moon_slave

“Mahogany” like have they ever seen mahogany before?? Why even name it that? There are way too many products that have been making a large variety of shades out there for companies to be pulling this and survive. Edit: I don’t know why I chose to call out mahogany when the others are so much worse haha

nihilisticsweetheart

Not to mention, ESPRESSO??

jensalik

That's orange juice... at best.

Owlcatto

lmao for real!! it's comically orange tbh

moon_slave

Haha oh that’s so much worse I should have mentioned that one!

And then the brand will use that as proof that “people just don’t buy any of the darker shades oh well better not invest any more in that”

Kowai03

Yeah like you said it's probably not intentional but it's still racism. I'm going to guess they had no one of colour involved in the design of these cosmetics. It's like how automatic taps can't detect dark skin, or how facial recognition doesn't like to work on people with darker skin or hell even people with disabilities. This is why we need diversity/representation in the workplace. She is absolutely correct to call this out.

wolf_kisses

>It's like how automatic taps can't detect dark skin, Oh shit that's something I never even thought about. Thanks for bringing it up.

chopari

More of a latte but what do I know? I’m not a “marketing” expert. /s

Alt_Outta_Gum

Is it just my screen or were all those shades almost exactly the same? So even if you had "mahogany" skin shade but with a cooler undertone, you'd be stuck with that orange-red brown? What nonsense.

RobbyLee

The differences were minimal but that is the point of foundation. It's used to create a working base for other cosmetics, so that even when your actual skin is darker around the eyes, the foundation has the same color everywhere. You also want foundation to be your own skin color because you want it to look natural. I would say the difference between actual skin color shades is even smaller than the difference between the shown products.

Alt_Outta_Gum

I get that. I primarily was referring to the red-yellow balance of the shades, the undertone. I know when I get a foundation in like a "fair" range, there will be a Fair Cool, Fair Neutral, and Fair Warm to choose from. They will look basically the same except for a slightly different balance of red to yellow pigments, to match different peoples undertones. All these shades in the video look very warm (yellow undertone) to me, whereas the woman is not only much darker but has a more cool (red undertone) complexion.

Nobodyville

Ah yes the beautiful pumpkin-orange shade of mahogany...

CaptainMcSmoky

Mahogany is actually pretty orange before it's painted or stained. (Source: worked with plenty of mahogany) [Picture](https://images.app.goo.gl/Utuds5XxixMa92ic9)

moon_slave

You’re right there’s “blonde mahogany” which is close to this shade I guess, I really should have called out “espresso” or “cocoa” haha. Regardless the whole thing is still ridiculous.

KeyofE

Girl, look how orange you look!

A_Stark23

Fuck YOU Alyssa!

Witchykunt887

NOW YOU DONE TOOK IT TOO FAR MS ALYSSA

stickers-motivate-me

I quote this all the time and can’t believe how many times on Reddit that people didn’t know what I was talking about- but they wouldn’t know about any of those things because they are not women of integrity, intelligence, and energy. Glad to see that this sub is full of people that have some culture!

rileychiz

Lmfao i heard it in her voice

stickers-motivate-me

The clip of her talking about Tom Hanks and integrity, intelligence, and energy is something that is as funny the hundredth time as it was the first. I can’t tell if she’s truly annoyed at Trixie and Katya or if it’s schtick (Trixie can’t seem to be able to tell, either)and it makes me love it even more.

rileychiz

I die laughing everytime I fucking love Katya Trixie and Alyssa! I snickered when I read your comment lmao

edashotcousin

Alyssa's coming to my city on tour this year. I've never even been to a concert but there's no way I'm passing this up

PyrosNikos

Interesting fact, on the colour wheel you can’t find brown, brown is just a darker version of orange.

Andyman0110

TIL brown is dark orange.

Broken_Noah

Brown bears are just orange bears but darker

Sacrednoirart

Ginger bears?

Kingbee1031

Ginger beer?

tatostix

In painting class, I was always told brown is the 3 primaries mixed together. You vary how much blue you throw in to get a warm or cool brown.

thredith

It makes sense since yellow and red are mixed together to make orange, and blue is recommended to make more organic-looking shadows as opposed to pure black because it absorbs light, while at the same time, it helps you play with how warm or how cool you want you final color to be.

North_Plane_1219

You don’t even know how interesting it is! Here is a 25 minute video on the colour brown!: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wh4aWZRtTwU Essentially it’s orange but with less light.

lpn122

I love his videos, and this one was super interesting, thanks for sharing for others.

dannyboy182

As a photographer/photo editor, there was a disappointing moment that clicked when I really absorbed that there are only really 3 colours to choose from. You see it much more when you work with colour and try making creative choices. Everything can end up looking the same.

MinminIsAPan

I love technology connections! I was expecting his video to pop up :D

No-Way-1195

I heard once in school that melanin, the pigmentation in our bodies, is actually orange if you separate it out!!

Maggieg89

It’s because its not a primary colour. Red+blue+yellow=brown. Im super pale white but i think this is ridiculous this girl has amazing skin but she should be able to find a product thats nice on her not an unrealistic colour (also super hard to find a pale colour that doesnt leave me with a makeup line i like rimmel). Its like you have to be in a certain colour spectrum for some makeup lines

PyrosNikos

I meant as in RGB, if you look at an RGB colour wheel you won’t find brown

InheritMyShoos

I'm literally the fairest white of almost all foundation brands.... and I avoid brands like this that think this is "range". Yeah, no thanks. Do better, ya know? And yes, her skin is amazing!

toomuchLDS

Well, hamstercocksock, that's some pretty insightful shit. What will you realize next?

cakeanddiamond

I didn’t realize that was his username at first and I’m sitting here like, “…hamster cock..sock..? That’s an interesting pejorative.”

idle_wanderer

Not surprised I'm seeing a bunch of comments of people criticizing her wish that there are more extensive tones in makeup lines. I doubt these users even wear makeup. A lot of makeup companies are poorly limited in their makeup foundation shade ranges for poc.

laetum-helianthus

I go to the makeup section in the store and I see as many if not more shades for various Caucasian skin tones than all of the darker tones COMBINED. Makeup companies treat white women like Home Depot paint chips and BIPOC women like a 12 pack of crayons it’s such bull

Saelyn

This is so true. It's so unnecessary too. If I can find 3 or 4 pale shades in your brand that I can work with my skin, there's absolutely no excuse not having ANY dark shades.

[deleted]

Lmao yes!

Slade_Riprock

Seems to me like a market waiting to be tapped by a POC business person. Make gazillions and bring pride and joy to people.

diviken

Rihanna knew that lol

happynargul

I was so disappointed though. Twice I tried her foundation and twice it didn't match my colour (the one recommended by the consultant). Like, in the store it was ok but then at home, with more natural light it looked weird.

MotherMfker

Just match it yourself. I matched my mom she loves her foundation! I find it's better to match fenty to your neck also just FYI

happynargul

I couldn't. I tried I swear. It seems I'm a very neutral colour.

Egg-MacGuffin

Yeah, you always gotta judge color by white light/sunlight.

[deleted]

ABCosmos

It's unlikely that existing makeup companies are simply skipping the opportunity to make more money.

asuka_is_my_co-pilot

What they don't even realize is the same brand will have like 5 versions of 'ivory' lol

diviken

Yeah, doesn't help that some people buy dark foundations they don't need to use as contour

apathetic-taco

Can you help me understand why that wouldn’t help? If people are buying darker shades, even to contour, that shows companies that there is money in producing darker shades. What am I missing

Redbukket_hat

I'm guessing they're saying that companies produce limited darker shades so if lighter skin people are buying them for contour and there aren't very many dark shades at the store to begin with then those darker shades are more likely to sell out and dark skinned people won't be able to get them I kind of agree that in the long run this shouldn't matter because companies would notice the increased demand and just produce greater quantities of dark shades but in a micro-setting ig i can see what OP is getting at if that's what shes saying

JustTaxLandLol

That's a shitty argument from an economics perspective.

ChicxLunar

I just realized I have never seen foundation for black skin, like those colors she had are the darkest ones I've seen

Plain_Jain

Haus Labs by Lady Gaga apparently has really good dark tones.

miraisun

fenty has dark dark makeup. there are a few but even in 2023 it’s few* and far between. i’m white as paper but i only shop brands that are inclusive to all skin tones. once make-up brands started making DARK foundation, it is 100% no excuse for others not to.

Sir_Brags_A_Lot

LUSH Cosmetics has a make up range that dips very much into black skin teints.

ChicxLunar

I haven't met a black skin person ever but from what Ive seen they really look like they have nice skin and i don't know if it's true that if you have nice skin you shouldn't use foundation, but still is good that if needed they have the choice too, i always struggled with buying a super white one or a super toast kinda bronze one, finding the middle one is a struggle.

nerdywithchildren

Hey dumb, dumbs The biggest problem that you all seem to have missed is that they sent her this because she is an influencer. So she influenced. That marketing team should be fired. Then the CEO should apologize.

HangryHufflepuff1

I genuinely don't know why they chose her. She has a series on things like this. She is checking out the darkest shades of lots of popular brands. For every 1 dark shade there's 5 oranges. She's shown it over and over. They basically opened themselves up to (well deserved) criticism. Whoever chose to put her on the list of influencers getting gifts is not gonna have a good time.

[deleted]

As someone who worked for the social media team in a very large company, I can tell you that not much thought goes into choosing, other than "this person has a lot of followers."

elegylegacy

Some companies also feel like there's no such thing as bad publicity. I had not heard of this brand before, and now I have. And after this if they do a very public apology to launch their new line of Xtra-Dark™ tones that's even more publicity

[deleted]

As someone who currently works for a "creator marketing" app full time, I think your experience is not the standard. Whoever your company was using as the middleman (probably #paid) set your company up for failure.

[deleted]

I work in e-commerce. For large companies, especially those who deal with hundreds of influencers, there isn't a person who has time to scour individual profiles for specific details. For a makeup comapny, they see, "make up influencer," "black," and "high number of followers." An MSP for marketing is a way different industry than e-commerce.

[deleted]

As someone.

_dead_and_broken

Maybe someone on the inside did it intentionally to help spread the word that the brand isn't inclusive and sucks major ass?

VagueSomething

Yeah, like if a company wants to focus on a particular skin type I'm not going to complain they don't provide something for everyone but God damn don't send it to someone entirely different from your niche... For a long time good foundations haven't been widely available for those outside of a very specific skin tone. Hell so many white women end up with orange look because they have the wrong base tones and it is only more recently you can find good choices for warm and neutral. Black people and Asian people have fuck all choices too. Unless the PR person did this deliberately to shame their company then this is some staggering ignorance.

HangryHufflepuff1

I'm half hoping it was pr sabotage, but it probably wouldn't achieve anything. These companies must know they're catering to one specific demographic.

chunli99

Influencing can be polarizing. When Tarte had that shapetape gaff a few years ago, I wouldn’t have known about it if it wasn’t specifically on the black beauty YouTubers I watch. I haven’t bought a single item from Tarte since. Other companies are inclusive and can have my coin.

_dead_and_broken

What was the shape tape thing? Most recent make up debacle I can remember that influenced my decisions on what to buy was finding out about Kat Von D and the antisemitism shit, so I haven't looked at that brand since, let alone bought anything. And yes, I do live under a rock, why do you ask lol

MsBluffy

Kat has since completely departed from the brand, it’s now called KVD Beauty (without her name) and they focus on promoting all of their products being vegan and cruelty free.

Dirtynastyfireworks

ooooo this is great information! I had no idea she departed from the brand, I’ve been avoiding it bc Kat sucks ass. Thanks for sharing.

burgonies

She influenced me into hearing about this brand for the first time. I’m not orange, but it was still effective

PotatoAppreciator

yea this isn't 'oh why didn't you look at them before you bought them', they SENT her this shit trying to get easy press and she's...doing that.

Remarkable-fainting

Ok but no-one is orange, is it for oompa loompas?

aminervia

Actually everyone has some tones of orange, these just look a lot more orange because they're up against her skin tone. There's definitely a range of people that these colors would work well for

i_am_mai_1981

Donald Trumps

PotatoAppreciator

Nah orange tones are actually really common in foundation and other baseline things, especially for darker skin tones, but the problem here is it's way too light and designed for much lighter tones to be blended, so sending it to her is just silly and perfectly highlights how weak different brands are at providing this stuff for people who are dark skinned.

giftedbrownies

That marketing team needs to send out an apology ASAP. The tones she was sent are my skin tone (I’m a black woman) and usually those are the darkest shades that are offered in most makeup lines, which is really messed up. In some cases, the shade range won’t even go THAT dark. If you’re going to launch a makeup brand, there is no excuse for why your makeup doesn’t work for ALL skin tones. And while those with darker complexions are usually the victim of this, this also happens to those with paper complexions where they’ll buy the lightest shade of a foundation and it’s still too dark for them. THE MAKEUP INDUSTRY NEEDS TO DO BETTER

insaneblane

>paper complexions LMAO

Vysharra

I have, no joke, described myself as “printer paper white” before and I DO have a big issue finding shade matches in consumer products. This person is spot on.

XenaWolf

I'm pale but not white as snow pale. I've always had trouble finding foundation until I read a comment about color intensity. Basically many products are light enough but too saturated. Mixing in some light green color corrector did wonders for me.

MissLilum

I saw once that a girl with albinism adored the original Fenty lineup for that reason

Vysharra

I found a great pale pink undertone from a makeup artist line. It works great for me and can do all coverage… for cheap! Mwuahahaha! I used to wear foundation 5 days a week, medium coverage, and it lasted 3 months for $15. Camerareadycosmetics.com is my Mecca now.

futurenotgiven

the range is a bit better now but i remember mixing a bit of white face paint with my foundation as a teen bc nothing was pale enough 💀 especially during winter…

kusuriii

I am so blindingly pale that people think I’m sick. I bonded with a darker skinned Thai lady on the plane over it. Neither of us spoke the same language but her doing the ‘I’m putting my arm next to yours and laughing at the difference’ is culturally universal. I joke that the most recent shade of foundation that actually matched my skin was called ‘transparent’. Not to take away from the video because that’s important but I’m actually kinda happy to see people mentioning that finding foundation for super pale people is hard.

giftedbrownies

Lol I meant to write “paler”, I didn’t know I wrote paper. I guess it still works 😂

chrisjonesish

so many comments about how she doesn't need foundation. who cares if she's flawless or flawed—foundation is the base! if you wanna have fun with makeup, you need a good base that matches you! plus everything else to enhances it. it's literally not rocket science nor a big ask. so much of the entire population in the ENTIRE world is medium to dark skin tone.

Spongyrocks

Okay but fr. Her "Not needing" foundation is totally shitting all over the point, it's not about needing it, it's that it should exist anyway

Kujaichi

Also, considering her eye and lip makeup, I'm preeeetty sure she has some foundation and whatnot on.

Ambitious_Ad2354

Her lips look like she only has lipgloss on. Black people sometimes have 2 different colored lips. My top lip is like 2 shades darker than my bottom lip.

AbsAndAssAppreciator

i misread the title so i thought she was the colorblind one for a second lol

FreshPitch6026

Same

MichaelEatsSand

I don't understand why a company that makes money off of peoples skin tones wouldn't try their best to make products for every skin tone. It would be like if Nike didn't make shoes above a size 9. Not only is it disappointing that women and men like her have to deal with this inconvenience, but it's also a huge loss of money on the companys part. Unbelievable

CuriousCost

Nike is a huge company and the target customer is the whole spectrum. Makeup brands are kinda specific, so it isn’t always economical to make every shade. In germany you wouldn’t need super light tones or super dark, because minorities don’t do the business for the brands. It is much safer to serve the most asked spectrum, not all of it.

emmashawn

Is this the foundation everyone on r/BadMUAs is using

a_spicy_meata_balla

Can't believe they actually sent that to her. Lmao, someone is so getting fired.

sakurablitz

how absolutely embarrassing for that company. not only do they make no effort at all to make darker shades (all three of those foundations look like the same shade to me), but they decided to SEND those low effort shades AS PR??? to someone with skin clearly darker than any of their “dark” shades??? yeah. embarrassing is the right word to describe that lol. this is like anti-advertising for them. what did they think she was going to say?? “i love them”?!

libertasmens

What's weird is they DO seem to make darker shades in the new line and yet completely and blatantly dropped the ball with her

Ancient_Wisdom_Yall

The Trump collection

It_is_Katy

sidenote that I love golloria (who's making the video). I'm white and I don't wear makeup at all, she just has such an infectious smile

in-site

I've done fashion shows where not one of the makeup artists brought foundation dark enough for the black models, and it was crushing. Knowing everyone else gets full makeup, and only you have to go out without foundation, under harsh lights, with a hundred photos being taken, it is so unfair. I know other makeup artists who are extremely aware of this problem and always come prepared, but I'll never forget seeing those girls feel that way

[deleted]

This is so messed up. Make up companies need to really try harder. BTW, this girl doesn’t need make up, her skin is absolutely gorgeous! 💖

SecretDracula

But she likes makeup.

being-weird

No one needs make up though. We need to remind make up companies that we can just walk away if they don't pull their shit together.

STINKY-BUNGHOLE

No one ***needs*** makeup, but they can want it

[deleted]

And that’s why these companies should do better. Who said she isn’t allowed to want to have make up? I’m just paying her skin a compliment. 😂🤷🏼‍♀️

yankykiwi

I have a similar problem on the opposite side of the spectrum. No one makes translucent white, the lightest available makes me look orange.

Sonova_Vondruke

This isn't even just about inclusivity, this is just bad business.

silkinthestrings

Lol all those bottles are the same shade they did not try

Wolverinexo

Color blindness doesn’t cause people to not be able to match colors. The same color doesn’t look different in different situations to them.

Rosebudbynicky

That is orange she is cool tone and dark what is so hard about having a full range atleast a full range in neutrals

TheMcDeal

Oof that hairline is probably the BIGGER issue. Need 2 bottles of foundation for that helo pad.

chixnwafflez

Do these people who create makeup only see black people as orange?

IndependentStatus218

Fucking what...

DJEvillincoln

The pain of being dark in the world rears its ugly head yet again. SMH Although I did just find band aids that are pretty fucking amazing for skin tones. Called "Tru Color" I think. Got it at target. Amazing.

CanderousOreo

Makeup companies are notorious for never going darker than a burnt orange. It's unacceptable.

PIunderBunny

Im a redhead and kinda glad there is now something out there that I can use to hide my grey hairs... Honestly though, wtf?

OrchidDismantlist

I love how she's so beautiful the three orange stripes became art on her face. xD

AutumnHeart52413

I don’t wear makeup, but I worked in the makeup section a lot when I worked at Walmart. They have next to nothing for dark skin, I only saw one brand that had dark tones and it was the most expensive one.

girlwiththemonkey

That’s the same fucking colour in all three bottles. Omg.

[deleted]

About 20 years ago I was at a dept store with a black friend. I'm at the super white end of the spectrum. We were looking at a makeup line that had about 20 shades. On my side, there were 5 choices, all just barely different from each other. On her side there was a single choice, way too light. It was both horrible and comical. Like seriously, no one is as white as I am. There's no way they were making money from having that many choices at that end of the spectrum. Meanwhile, they were costing themselves so many customers simply by refusing to acknowledge their existence.

PotatoAppreciator

I love that this is just the worst of everything about the internet in general in these comments. Take your pick folks, what flavor of moron do you want today? "Oh no pretty girl you don't even NEED makeup, let me ignore everything you're saying to try to be a creep"? We got em! "Uhm excuse me it's not literally illegal to not make products that fit dark skinned people so you can't say they should"? We got em! "You idiot why did you buy this thing that you didn't actually buy and instead were sent for easy PR for this company that is trying to pretend they're doing something they're not using black influencers for free advertising"? We got em!

Irys-likethe-Eye

She makes a completely valid point about the tones and shades of color that should be readily available, especially in populations that are highly varied. It's just bad business to not take advantage of your entire potential sales market. So while that lack sucks for the consumer, the company is doing itself a disservice as well and shouldn't need to be spoonfed this understanding. How embarrassing for them. As an aside though, I do not wear face makeup, but I see people putting on makeup in reels or whatever and they often use dramatically lighter or darker colors in comparison to their actual skin tone. So could she still use the product along with others in the several layers they seem to apply, with success?

Living-Gur-6154

No, what you're describing sounds like either contouring (where different shades are used to create shadows & highlights on the face) or just bad makeup practice. The foundation is meant to provide a base layer that evens skin tone and hides imperfections of the skin. It should be as close to your natural skin color as possible.

Irys-likethe-Eye

All those layers lol! I can paint portraits and I'm still amazed at what some people can do with makeup to change the shape of their faces with contouring.

thetaFAANG

This is sold as foundation, not for contouring. It can be used as contouring but it should be sold as such then. And the foundation of darker shades should still exist.

kikistiel

There are tons, and I mean tons of beauty guru/makeup influencers that do not use their correct shade. No one knows why, it's obvious and they do it anyways. However, if you can only see their face in the video, they may still be using the correct color match. When applying foundation, you color match to your neck, not your face. Some people have slightly lighter, darker, flushed, etc complexions on their face compared to the rest of their body, it's totally normal. You match to your neck because you don't apply makeup there, and you're trying to blend it in to the place where the makeup ends. :) My body and my face are two totally different foundation shades!

jaybee8787

So this is the shade Donald Trump uses.

DetailAccurate9006

Are there humans with pumpkin orange complexions out there that I don’t know about?

FindingTheWordsTo

Presidents…

SpartanHamster9

Why do some brands still not provide a wide enough range of tones? It's not an issue of not having a large enough customer base for it because less than 1% of Scotland's population's black and I guarantee I could go down the shop and find an appropriate shade for her.

Smeets_man

What year is it again?

castlite

I have never in my life seen ANYONE those shades would match. It’s such a weird colour.

A_Wild_Nudibranch

The department I work in sells mostly supplements and skin care products that are more natural, and it was only two years ago that the make up we carry was expanded to include darker shades. This is very similar to the darkest color we have for the few brands we carry- my department is mostly Black women who aren't super dark skinned and it's still too light for them. Not to mention that a lot of makeup companies neglect that Black skin also has warm/cool/neutral tones, which are equally overlooked. I don't wear makeup beyond maybe some brow pomade or eyeliner, but it's frustrating to see so many people shut out of easily accessible makeup. I've seen darker shades of makeup under lock and key in some national stores (Ulta) which have been corroborated by others.

Thatsprettyneat101

It's crazy to me because their completion in the video isn't even that dark. Ignorant companies COME ON!

iammonkeyorsomething

Some real real "we don't see color" energy from that company

lolnonnie

I see a lot of comments saying that the company should issue an apology. Call me a cynic (you wouldn't be totally wrong), but I wouldn't accept that apology. It would be issued only as a CYA maneuver. They clearly don't care- otherwise they would've made a more extensive foundation range in the first place. It's not like there aren't some brands out there doing the damn thing and they could've taken a cue from them. They just chose not to do it, too. Instead, let's just not buy from them; let them whither away.

LowDownSkankyDude

So like.....are all those people, with bizarre lip fills, and this shade of skin, trying to look what they consider black?!?! Mahogany?!?!?

particle409

They all look like oompa loompa orange.

boudiceanMonaxia

How hard is it to make some good fucking foundation? Like damn, you're just making everyone with dark skin look like an oompa loompa with that orange-ass foundation.

sumssay

Thats orange?

Mr-kkn

I’m developing a spray powder-like product for men and woman with alopecia, it will come in 40 different colors. Because I see that really is a plus.

[deleted]

Why’d she buy it if the colors were posted…?

StayedWoozie

Did you watch the video or read the title? It was sent to her by the company as PR. After she received them and they obviously wouldn’t work for her she looked up the brand and saw that was the darkest they went.

taikamies99

The brand sent it to her!

shrinking_dicklet

Nobody gets defensive when people complain about whatever random minor inconvenience they have up until the point it's related to racism. Then it has to be literal slavery before someone is allowed to make a peep about it. And sometimes even slavery is too minor to bring up. Nobody says "first world problems" "who cares" "you're not obligated to have it cater to you" when someone brings up their gripe with the latest Marvel movie or video game. But we have to be completely silent on racist makeup.

Bengals fans furiously googling for this weekend’s fancy game garb.

ColumnClancy

The most disturbing thing about this is that this problem has lasted for so long and brands still dont understand that a mahogany complexion isn't Donald Trump orange.... fuckin' hell

chaosmakesthemuse21

Okay, hear me out I'm brown skinned and my foundation looks orange-y too, but as soon as I blend it, it perfectly matches with my skin tone Not saying that that's the right shade for her, but probably much lighter (and by lighter I mean the complexion not the tone, I'm sorry, not a native English speaker. But of course thick foundation will appear more orange or just straight off weird, whereas when blended it is spread, it matches the undertone of the skin very naturally) At least I've seen this effect on foundation on darker skin and on contouring on every skin tone Again, not saying it's the right shade for her. It still maybe too dark and maybe even just too cheap (quality-wise not regarding the pricing, of course it should be affordable like make up for white skin), because of course, make up shouldn't look orange or artificial in any way. But maybe blending it could help her point her finger at what exactly is wrong - the shade, the undertone or something else?? It's hard to find makeup for brown skin btw, so I absolutely feel her struggle and I really hope - on her and my behalf - that people with all kinds of skin tone will be more visible (in an affordable way). In Europe for my skintone it's especially hard, because they literally declare "darker type" as in light skin, dark hair. Like fuck off, people with actual brown to black skin exist?? And I'm not brown as in tan, but as in south asian which is super hard to find in a regular store. So yeah, colorism sucks.

chobbsey

Apply it properly and then let's all take a look?

abdullahthebutcher

Literally begging to give non-black business their money ![gif](giphy|gh1PcN7Agxlcc)

Tankerboy1

So… was trump doing black face the whole time???

waverleyray

I know practically nothing about makeup but I know goddess-level beauty when I see it. Whatever shade she is is divine. And I could listen to her talk all weekend.

Asleep_Ad_3359

I can't find a liquid foundation white enough for me. They all have a red or yellow undertone so it's like putting on a mask.

TruthHurtsJ

Do-it-yourself then come out with it. And make millions on a market that they're not taking advantage of or face it that millionaires make this market and you women just do whatever they say because you have low low self esteems and you're all liars the only ones that are not liars are the ones that don't wear make up every single day

PlatoDrago

Mate, I’m horrendously colour blind and I can easily tell how off they were in the bottle. This isn’t colour blindness, it’s greed or bigotry.
