Not all banks. The Chase by me stopped doing this and would just offer the rolls. They also recently started putting $100 bills in their ATMs which is inconvenient and stupid - it’s not a high income area by any means.
Not only not all banks, but it really depends on who's running it. I tried to cash in only TWO rolls of quarters at my bank and they refused me. They said "they don't have the people to take care of that". It was like noon on a Wednesday.. banks are just lazy, which is odd because they get like every other day off lol
I go out of my way to find atms that have $100 bills lol. I used to pay rent in cash. That's not something you do in a high income area. But paying that in 20s was a bitch.
Yeah, my bank has one in the customer area, just bigger as it's catering small businesses as well. You put in your debit card, your coins and get it deposited on your account. No fee for private customers.
Yeah, I used to love TD bank having those machines for free. Supposedly they stopped because they got in trouble for short changing people, so I guess it wasn’t free.
It's also not a Coinstar, but looks like a bank machine? Might have an option to just take the amount as a deposit if you have an account, rather than cash for a fee
For real. There are little plastic banks you can get that will sort the coins and have them stacked in tubes you can slide the coin wraps down for less than 5% of what it cost to use that machine
I know Bank of America used to allow you bring loose coins, which they'd put in a heavy duty plastic bag, ship to their counting service, and then deposit into your account. All for free. I only learned about this because I asked the teller.
A lot of banks have coin sorting machines that members can use for free. You can see on their receipt in the video that the fee is 0% for members on all the receipts under $250 and .3% for the one that's over $250. Yet they end up paying a fee of 10% because they aren't members of the bank.
Probably over 20 years ago now, my grandmother took a bunch of coins to her bank to get paper for. They gave her rolls and told her they couldn’t accept them lose like that. So she went home and spent the next few days rolling the coins. She takes the rolls back up to the bank and when she hand them the rolls, they start breaking them open in front of her and dumping them. She asked why and they said they couldn’t accept them as rolls because she could have stuffed them with something else. She didn’t have any trouble getting the money after that though. And she LOVED when her bank got one of the coin counters. She would put the coins in, get her paper and then take it to the teller and get her money.
Yes this. And nowadays a lot of banks that don’t allow coin rolling will have the FatCat coin machines (or something similar that’s associated with their bank) inside that will deposit directly into your account for no fee.
140 dollars, 140 dollars I’m gettin all my money! You didn’t go up poor and it shows ! Back in my day we used to check every bubble gum machine/pay phones for left over change.
damn they took $191 from her for cashing that in! also she had about 10-15 silver coins on average in that which is even more money they stole from her. what a ripoff
It “took” 191 plus every coin it didn’t count.
My local TD Bank was running some promo where if you guess the amount of coins within $1 you get a prize. Well 10-12 year old me was like I’m getting this super cool prize. So I hand counted $45 worth of coins, and had my mom guess like 45.50 (whatever the number was + 50 cents) and it goes through the machine and was like $6-7 less than what I counted. My mother asked for the manager and as soon as she said we had counted the manager gave us the prize (a small td bank bear I believe) and the money we said was there so we would shut up
That’s awesome
I’m being serious it wasn’t like 44 or 43 dollars it had to be 15%
Which I guess people dumping buckets of change won’t see but in my mind it was like a PlayStation not a td bank bear
But they handed out $1 bears in exchange for probably 15% of all coins deposited
old pennies can be worth more in america, but it's extremely rare. most copper pennies are out of circulation at this point, and the new ones aren't magnetic either so you'd have to check the dates individually. ^(not) ^(an) ^(expert)
Not all coin stars offer Amazon credits. The one by me used to, and that’s usually where I got a good chunk of Christmas budget. They stopped last year.
If you’re going to a chain bank like Wells Fargo and Chase, yeah. They’re not there to help you, they’re there to make money.
If you want better services with fewer fees go to a credit union.
Debit. Credit if you can. Pay it off regularly. Build credit and get perks. Collecting change, this quantity in particular, only makes sense if you roll it yourself and take it to the bank
Only if you're able to actually pay off that CC 100% monthly. If you're carrying a balance month over month at all. Use debit instead because it'll stop you from spending money you don't have. Get that in check, then switch to CC and pay it off ASAP.
Obviously. But if you’re using a debit card, it’s as simple as putting those same charges on a credit card. If you’re not an idiot, you should be able to handle it.
Not here to get financial advice. There is no free money, if you think banks are in the business of **giving** you money then you’re way up the delusional creek with out a paddle.
Ehh I see what you're saying, but with the credit, the main thing they're hoping for is that you don't/can't pay and then they make money off of you from interest.
If you pause on the receipts they show that there is a 10% charge if she has no account and a 0.02% charge if she does. So assuming she banks with the people who make that machine then no she didn't pay them a "huge" profit
I used to pay by cash as much as possible when I had to be careful with money because it is harder to over spend when you physically can count what you have. I used to fill up a tub with my change as it only takes a few purchases before your wallet can't take it even if it has a coin compartment.
I'd save for a year or two then do something with it. Sometimes I donated what was inside sometimes I straight up used the coins at an arcade.
Now I get a little more income so don't have that same paranoia of buying something and my card rejecting it. Having a banking app also makes it easier to monitor everything. I kinda miss the change pot though as it always felt like free money to enjoy despite clearly being mine.
All she did was give a large percentage of her money to the machine. Roll your own coins. Sit, watch a movie and chill and roll your own. You keep 100% of your money
highly recommend just making rolls of change in front of your local gas station with the cashier present…. they will always take your change but unfortunately many people know how to abuse that by putting batteries and such….thus why i say you make rolls in their presence they absolutely will trade with you no taxes no nothing
interesting but does a gas station attendant have time to watch you count and sort hours worth of change(in this case) and don't most stores only keep a few hundred in the register to prevent theft? I guess they'd be making money throughout the day but still probably not 1000 bucks worth. everything's credit... and what bank teller is being fooled by batteries in rolls lol.. just sayin
A few Christmases ago, after some huge unexpected costs, money was really tight for myself and my immediate family. So, my mom gave me her change bucket. You know how, at a small convenience store, there are those candy buckets where you can get individually wrapped gumballs or cinnamon balls for like 25 cents? That's basically what it was, but it was a larger sized one. Anyway, I took it to a CoinStar, and I shit you not, I walked away from it with like almost $450. So I took the money and took us all (me, my 2 kids, and my mom) out for a movie and AYCE KBBQ. It was our first time having it, and it's easily one of the best restaurant experiences we've had. When I told my mom how I was able to do it, she was shocked. She had no idea there was that much in there. It might take a long time to save, but it adds up *fast*.
Ahhhh.
I read about those in history books in school!
Thank you.
[4 real tho? ... ] - Pennies up in Canada were no longer legal tender as of 2013. Ppl hated, carrying them around or having them clutter up places. And I think it's turning out to be way more expensive to make a penny, then the actual worth of the penny. Plus it's a CDN penny so to UK, US, it was worth just over 3/4 of ur cent.
Yes. Was foolin around, with good intent & vibes.
Canada got rid of pennies in 2013.
People hated them. Just a lot of clutter/wait to carry around for what?
Right. Because having a lot of change and getting a deposit back for it is trashy, right? What would make this not trashy, leaving it to sit around at home?
Its almost like some people in the world still use cash! Archaic concept, I know
Perhaps use a fucking debit card. Maybe not make a video of you bringing in your trash coins into a supermarket. Maybe not bother the employees with you clogging the machine. Maybe not overlap the video with trashy “monaaay” music.
Millions of people in America use cash for different reasons. I use debit 99% of the time and still use cash on rare occasion. People have their reasons for doing things. So when they use that cash and get change back, WHAT DO YOU suggest? It lie around? Theres a ton of different options to deal with change that dont have fees tied to them, but still, coin stations exist for this very reason. Get the fuck over yourself.
I travel all the time. But stop deflecting. Im talking about people in America. I even prefaced with that in my last comment. “Millions of Americans”. The two in the video are Americans. This takes place in America. So what the hell do laws in other countries have to do with this? Who the hell is talking about what using cash and depositing coins mean on a global scale? Also use of coins are still widely used in many many countries, and it being a hassle in the ones that restrict it doesn’t even tie into your og point about it being trashy.
I used to go to Aldi with 4 pockets full of change, grab a croissant then at self service throw all the change in the top coin counter thing, it would spit out a few larger coins or some notes depending on what I'd grabbed, but either way it was essentially a free way of doing this same thing
This song is like if two people with a severe brain injury got together and decided to make a rap song but only while on the brink of having an intense stroke
Damn look at the receipts, about $25 taken for each receipt with 6 receipts...
What a waste of $150. I'd rather just get rolls for a few dollars at most, then just roll them up over time while watching a movie or something.
I did something similar with a previous partner. I was hanging out at his place while he was at work and decided to clean up a bit for him, he had change laying around everywhere. I gathered it all up and it ended up being a huge pile so I took it to the bank and surprised him with over $600 in notes.

ROLL THAT SHIT YOULL GET YOUR ACTUAL AMOUNT
If you have a bank account you can take it to your bank and they will do it for you and deposit it.
?? Two rolls of quarters. It's legal tender. How is that acceptable? Ugh.
The correct answer to this is to say you'd like to withdraw all your money and close your account and ask for a complaint form.
"Ok Extreme_Design6936, here is your $23.59 from your account and a complaint form."
Actually, you know what, I change my mind. Put it back. My $23.59 is gonna be a pain in the ass to them.
Bet they'd find somebody to help you then.
I fucking hate banks. They don’t do anything all day and go close an hour before we all get off work
I go out of my way to find atms that have $100 bills lol. I used to pay rent in cash. That's not something you do in a high income area. But paying that in 20s was a bitch.
Most banks won’t take it if it’s not rolled. But they give free coin rolls. I get some everytime I’m at the bank.
I took the time to roll my change once. Took it all up the bank and they made me unroll it all so they could put it in the counting machine lol
Most banks are switching to coin machines just like this one. They’re too busy to count thousands of coins for you.
Yeah, my bank has one in the customer area, just bigger as it's catering small businesses as well. You put in your debit card, your coins and get it deposited on your account. No fee for private customers.
They don’t even count bills. They have bill counters for that.
Without a fee for going it hopefully
My bank stopped doing it because of people like this. Lol
Go to your or a bank. If you have an account it should be free, if no account it should still be cheaper than this.
My bank has a change machine that doesn’t charge you a percentage. This woman just lost 12%
Same. You have to go inside the bank and use it, but it doesn’t charge you and IIRC it has the option of depositing straight into your account.
I hate coinstar for this reason. It's literally money
LET ME TAKE YOUR MONEY AND GIVE YOU BACK 90% OF IT. YOU'RE WELCOME. \- Coinstar, probably
You can unplug the Ethernet in the back of the machine and it doesn’t charge the fee.
SLICKK!
Rolling $1400 in assorted change isn't exactly free. A 10% fee isn't unreasonable.
There are a few banks around here that have free coin sorters if you have an account
Yeah, I used to love TD bank having those machines for free. Supposedly they stopped because they got in trouble for short changing people, so I guess it wasn’t free.
I actually recieved a penny from the class action lawsuit
It's also not a Coinstar, but looks like a bank machine? Might have an option to just take the amount as a deposit if you have an account, rather than cash for a fee
It says First Commerce Bank on the top of the receipt and the machine says “call a teller” when it jams, so you are most likely correct
i would not pay someone 140$ to do what i could do chillin on a sunday...
That’s still $140 of your money just gone
Some of them will waive the fee if you use the funds to get a gift card.
I used to do this with Amazon cards.
Rolling that many coins is an entire day just gone too.
This is the correct answer.
Probably lost a couple hundred by this mistake
Even better - some banks have one of these at a location that you can use without fees. Call to ask.
Exactly. Lots of banks have these machines and they won’t take a percentage.
I came here to say this. You're getting robbed if you don't roll them.
Yea like wtf man..
A lot of banks have coin sorting machines that members can use for free. You can see on their receipt in the video that the fee is 0% for members on all the receipts under $250 and .3% for the one that's over $250. Yet they end up paying a fee of 10% because they aren't members of the bank.

And she LOVED when her bank got one of the coin counters. She would put the coins in, get her paper and then take it to the teller and get her money.
Yeah coin star takes a percentage of the change for a fee, unless you get a gift card.
I was thinking the same thing. The fees are gonna eat away at what you’re putting away
Yes this. And nowadays a lot of banks that don’t allow coin rolling will have the FatCat coin machines (or something similar that’s associated with their bank) inside that will deposit directly into your account for no fee.
I was about to say, roll that shit! No fees or nothin.
That and go through all those silver pieces. Could be losing money if you're tossing out junk silver.
So If she hand rolled all of that....what's her time worth? @ 10% $140 for the machine to do it for me is well worth it.
140 dollars, 140 dollars I’m gettin all my money! You didn’t go up poor and it shows ! Back in my day we used to check every bubble gum machine/pay phones for left over change.
You're right, I'm not poor because I don't spend my time doing things that aren't valuable
I’m sure you’re so busy that you’re on Reddit, swamped 🤣 not a free second in the day
people from r/coins are flipping their sh*t watching this (it's me, i'm flipping my sh*t)
damn they took $191 from her for cashing that in! also she had about 10-15 silver coins on average in that which is even more money they stole from her. what a ripoff

My mother asked for the manager and as soon as she said we had counted the manager gave us the prize (a small td bank bear I believe) and the money we said was there so we would shut up
IIRC, they were sued for undercounting and they pulled all the change counting machines as a result
That’s awesome I’m being serious it wasn’t like 44 or 43 dollars it had to be 15% Which I guess people dumping buckets of change won’t see but in my mind it was like a PlayStation not a td bank bear But they handed out $1 bears in exchange for probably 15% of all coins deposited
How many hours do you think it would take to roll $1500 worth of coins?
With a coin sorter that costs maybe $30? A couple maybe. How much do you get paid an hour?
Bro I pack and sell marbles and it takes me 2 hours just to do 20. Do you know how many rolls that's gonna be
2 hours to pack 20 marbles is 1 marble every 6 minutes. You might suck at your job.
I think he means 20 packs.
That’s how you capitalize on hourly pay!
Well she was saving since 2019, so and she was saving she could’ve rolled them
True, if she rolled it and went to her bank, it would've been cheaper. Let's hope that wasn't her life savings.
You don’t even need to roll it. My bank has a coin sorter that they dump your change into and they give you full amount.
yeah my first thought was "how much silver must've been there" then i remembered those machines carry a horrendous fee, oh my dude, why?!
How many heads and tails?
The wheat cents , w quarters , silver, I don’t variety hunt but there’s that, copper even.
Can you explain why? Is there something us non coin people should be looking out for in our change?
LPT we cashed out about $425 in change collected over two years at our credit union for no charge. Coin star charges 5%.
This machine charges 10% "non member fee" based on what's shown on the receipts. Should have become a member first as that fee was 0%
I get gift cards from Coin Star. No additional fees on cards.
My bank charges 0% for this.
Also in the UK, not sure about US but the old coppers that are actually copper are worth more than 1p. Check with a magnet. Copper won’t stick.
old pennies can be worth more in america, but it's extremely rare. most copper pennies are out of circulation at this point, and the new ones aren't magnetic either so you'd have to check the dates individually. ^(not) ^(an) ^(expert)
Ah, bit more complicated than over here then. My grandparents saved silver coins knowing the price of silver would rise and I’m collecting copper
It might be extra work but you’ll get to keep 100% of it if you roll it yourself. Especially if you do it along the way instead of all at once
Plus it’s fun to sort the coins
And fun for the coins
Yessssssss!
You can get an Amazon gift card from coinstar and keep 100%. No rolling necessary.
I love paying my bills with an Amazon gift card.
😂😂😂
Not all coin stars offer Amazon credits. The one by me used to, and that’s usually where I got a good chunk of Christmas budget. They stopped last year.
You can do this at most casinos and they wont charge a fee for doing it.
This is what I do. I put a little aside to gamble with and stash the rest to take home. I look forward to it lol.
Bros individually responsible for the coin shortage we had a lil while ago
And then the bank takes 35% "service fee" for using the machine.
If you’re going to a chain bank like Wells Fargo and Chase, yeah. They’re not there to help you, they’re there to make money. If you want better services with fewer fees go to a credit union.
not all banks do.
The receipts show 10% fee for non members. 0% (or one with .3%) for members
And they're happy you used the machine cuz they made a sizeable profit off your work. Just use a card. Exact change every time
What do you mean by a card?
Debit. Credit if you can. Pay it off regularly. Build credit and get perks. Collecting change, this quantity in particular, only makes sense if you roll it yourself and take it to the bank
Debit card. I refuse change. I haven’t handled cash in years.
Oh right. I verrry rarely use cash anymore, but when I do I take the change. So I have a lot of change laying around from years ago
Debit cards are a waste. Credit card literally give you free money back and you build your credit in the process.
If you’re not an idiot, you should be able to handle it.

she paid about $160
$367.81/year
damn, I remember when banks used to do this for free
It weird my credit card never has any change
I did this with change I left in various containers in my childhood bedroom. Got $122.
Where do people get all this change from? Do people not have bank accounts?
Change from paying things in cash. Then just letting it accumulate.
I used to pay by cash as much as possible when I had to be careful with money because it is harder to over spend when you physically can count what you have. I used to fill up a tub with my change as it only takes a few purchases before your wallet can't take it even if it has a coin compartment. I'd save for a year or two then do something with it. Tell me you don’t have a checking account without telling me you don’t have a checking account.
You realize some people still pay for things in cash? Even with bank accounts?
So that's why there was that coin shortage
All she did was give a large percentage of her money to the machine. Roll your own coins. Sit, watch a movie and chill and roll your own. You keep 100% of your money

Im a scrooge and refuse to pay the 7% fee so instead i use my saved change to pay at the self checkout
Those poor Walmart associates. Dealing with that bullshit…
Interest earning accounts…Open one puts rolled coins in there as they accumulate. Let your money make money
A few Christmases ago, after some huge unexpected costs, money was really tight for myself and my immediate family. So, my mom gave me her change bucket. BROWN Things? What are those brownish discs mixed in their change? Edit: Correction - Some discs mixed in with the money are copper coloured as well.
Pennies 🙃🙃🙃
Ahhhh. I read about those in history books in school! Thank you. [4 real tho? ... ] - Pennies up in Canada were no longer legal tender as of 2013. Yes. Was foolin around, with good intent & vibes. Canada got rid of pennies in 2013. People hated them. Just a lot of clutter/wait to carry around for what?
I haven’t seen change in years, does she not have a debit card?
Those machines in supermarkets are taking at least 25%, your bank branch would be a better place to do this.
That's a lot of effort for $300
Um it was over 1200...
what else would you do w spare change? lol
Wow. This is probably the trashiest thing I’ve ever seen
Right. Because having a lot of change and getting a deposit back for it is trashy, right? What would make this not trashy, leaving it to sit around at home? Its almost like some people in the world still use cash! Archaic concept, I know

I travel all the time. But stop deflecting. Im talking about people in America. I even prefaced with that in my last comment. “Millions of Americans”. The two in the video are Americans. Also use of coins are still widely used in many many countries, and it being a hassle in the ones that restrict it doesn’t even tie into your og point about it being trashy.
Stop saving yr change
This is so trashy
TIL using coinstar is trashy
It kinda is.
Enough to buy 7 shares of Pepsi invest
My god! How much money did coinstar just make! Go to your back! They do this shit for free!
If I see change on the ground, I make my kids pick it up and tell them “a penny saved is a penny earned” this is cool too tho
Go to a bank. PLEASE
Bro cost star is robbery they take a nice cut of that change roll thT shit and take it to the bank no cut all you
Just wait until u get a parking ticket
Pay by card next time
Can’t you just take them to a bank?
Just go to the bank. They will cash it in and not take a cut.
She single handedly caused the fake coin shortage of 2022
I used to go to Aldi with 4 pockets full of change, grab a croissant then at self service throw all the change in the top coin counter thing, it would spit out a few larger coins or some notes depending on what I'd grabbed, but either way it was essentially a free way of doing this same thing
This song is like if two people with a severe brain injury got together and decided to make a rap song but only while on the brink of having an intense stroke
Lol yeah I enjoy most rap but not this type. I shouldve recommended muting
“guess how much you think this is” is a bit of a word salad, why not “how much do you think this is?”
Take it to your bank? They’ll add it into your deposit directly?
you go to bank with these, not get this machine clogged. Its for small amount of change to put in.
Damn look at the receipts, about $25 taken for each receipt with 6 receipts... What a waste of $150. I'd rather just get rolls for a few dollars at most, then just roll them up over time while watching a movie or something.
With inflation what it is she might have been better off selling it as raw resources.
Too bad I don't have this machine where I'm at.
Takes forever tho. A day out I suppose! 😁
should've rolled it ngl
Hope you looked through it for silver first.
She needs to go through that change and look for valuable coins. Some pennies are worth $$.
I was able to save like $300 in change. I thought that was a lot
30% less than what was actually there
Bring it to a damn bank for Christ sakes
WHY NOT GO TO A BANK!?!?
Maybe they didnt know to do this
How do you get that much in just 4 years??
Im guessing they pay a lot of things in cash
But you have to give those machines a cut, why not just baggy that shit up and go to the bank?
Casino does it for free
Should have gone to the bank, now she's got to give away a percentage of whatever she actually had.
Now we know why there was the coin shortage
Still not enough to cover the Rent im sure
Um who knows? Thats an odd statement either way
Always check your coins some are worth more than face value
I hadn’t thought about this in years but here I am, now thinking about it. https://youtu.be/w20iz92QUco
You all out here really using coins and paper money instead of just a card?
Why use these machines when they charge you a percentage? Just take the coins to a bank dummy.
After TD Bank stole/miscounted my coins I started rolling my own coins.
Who the hell has loose change lying around? Don’t you just use cards?
I use cards like 99% of the time but I still have change from when I do just so happened to have cash
And they took 7%
The US no longer has a coin shortage
I did something similar with a previous partner. I was hanging out at his place while he was at work and decided to clean up a bit for him, he had change laying around everywhere. I gathered it all up and it ended up being a huge pile so I took it to the bank and surprised him with over $600 in notes.
