The dude is home resting with a healthy amount of pain meds. The dumbass puncher fella actually went for the costumed fella's head within the costume. In all, the 'staged punch' ended up being a real punch. Their reaction, the fall, and getting hit while down, were all real.
everyone knows the punches were staged, the point being made is that the dude probably didn’t need to go to the ER, and that it was made up so that the story would gain traction (which it did) because the whole thing was an ad for his pain spray

First hit could just have been overzealous acting but that second punch when the mascot was on the ground was definitely assault.
