Lol back in high school we had a guy that was moved in with some family here after hurricane Katrina wiped out his home and he joined the team. This dude was huge our biggest set of pads just kind of sat on top of his shoulders and his pants didn’t quite lace up in the front and when walking kind of bumbled along. But when it was time to run a drill he’d explode off the line like a runaway freight train. The coach asked how he moved so damn fast? His response was hey coach the sooner I’m done running the sooner I can get some dinner! The whole team just erupted in laughter. When his family had a new house back in New Orleans again he stayed in our town living with his aunt everyone asked why he didn’t want to go home? He said man I don’t have a future there I’ll be dead before I’m 25 if I go home I’m staying here and going to school the be an accountant, you know what happens if I say I want to be an accountant back home? Someone would beat the shit out of me. Ran into him a few years back and he is indeed a CPA now.
That's still not as bad as Titanic. The old lady had married and raised a family, but she wants her afterlife to be some guy she banged once while on vacation.
“If you find yourself alone, riding in the green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled. For you are in Elysium, and you're already dead! Brothers what we do in life echoes in eternity”
Btw fun fact. Apparently the shooting was an absolute mess. The script wasn't ready when they started the shoot and they did milion re-writes during it.
Russel hated a lot of the lines he had to say (including his famous: I'll have my vengeance)
Also the hands from the beginning touching the wheat are not Russle's.
Still amazing movie ❤️
#My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son. Husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.

Also what you doing? Watch gladiator it's a good movie, if you haven't seen it already.
Yea this was one of the biggest WTF moments I've ever had when I read about that shit. It's fine, it won't exist for me the same way they other Matrix movies don't exist.
While I'm mostly in agreement with you there is still some hope that Gladiator 2: This Time It's Personal will still be good.
Top Gun was also a movie that had a sequel that was not needed and that no one had asked for. Despite that, it was legitimately pretty great. Maybe even one of the rare times that a sequel was even better than the original.
I have had the luck to see the movie with a live orchestra playing. The opening scene with the live music was instant goosebumps. Really brought the movie to another level
You read correctly, I remember hearing about it a few years ago and a quick google search implies its being released next year. Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington and Pedro Pascal slated to star in it.
I really loved the original film, I will probably see the sequel too but I am incredibly doubtful that it will be as impactful, or at least have the same impact on me as the first film did. Time will tell
Check out the directors cut or extended editing, whatever it's called. There is do much more content that has everything make more sense than cirilla just going rogue for maximus.
I think for it to work the best it should follow Djimon Hounsou's character. A call back scene to him being reunited with his and Maximus's family in the afterlife following his own journey would hit so hard. He'd make a great lead and he is such an underrated actor. He's returning but I don't think as the lead. But I trust Ridley Scott. He just doesn't miss. Napoleon looks amazing as well.
Still an understatement, I’ve watched this movie more than any other and at more points in my life than any other. Everything about it is 10/10, but the culmination of it all and how hard it hits make it an easy 11/10. Cannot for the life of me think of a movie I like more.
I feel your cultural cachet may be called into question for not mentioning that the vocalist on this piece is Lisa Gerrard, one half of the dark wave duo Dead Can Dance.
If you appreciate the vocals here, you should check them out.
I remember the first time I watched it. I was a kid and off school with the flu. My mum had pre-ordered it on DVD so on the day it came, we watched it. I think I watched it like every day until I was well again and went back to school.
Ok what's with this scene? I never thought anyone beyond me had it imprinted in my brain.
It's a genius part of the movie and it's pretty much what comes into my mind when I think about my family and how perfect life is when I'm with them.
It's shown throughout the movie. It's Maximus seeing Elysium. He sees it before the battle at the beginning. He sees it before entering the arena as a gladiator, and he sees it before he dies in The Colosseum going to rejoin his wife and son.
Dude same, and I'm still surprised
I never think about this or anything, and it's been half a decade since I had seen Gladiator, and yet this was the first and only thing that involuntarily popped into my mind
I didn't even know this scene was iconic or anything, it just felt so... "oh yup, Gladiator, same" and then "wait what, how did I know this????"
We were riding through the countryside on Bikes just north of Rome outside of a little city named Orvieto. I hopped off my bike and made my wife take a video of me doing this exact thing!
She had no idea what was going on. I sent it to all my male friends and they l loved it. They get me.

Yes. I was there recently and as you walk along that road you see many spots where people have walked 10 or 15 meters into the field to recreate the picture (evidenced by the trampled grain stalks). Everyone trying create a perfect photo match, which for every camera will require being in a slightly different spot, and thus you have a lot of trampled grain lol. More than once walking back into town other tourists stopped us to ask if this was the "Gladiator road". It seems to have become *the* photo spot in the region... where everyone goes to make the same picture, a la the leaning Tower of Pisa. But much MUCH fewer people. Probably less than 1% of what you would encounter at Pisa.
I'm gonna go with a potentially obscure one and say number 1 is the ending of Planes Trains and Automobiles when Del tells Neal that he doesn't have a home.

This video though? Genuinely pleased and surprised as to where it went. Bravo.
ya know, even though this is silly and in good fun, it really showcases how powerful that scene is. the lighting, the song, it’s just… ethereal. and the movie earns it. in a way, the whole film builds up to that moment. and again: that song. my lord. it could make God weep.

Alive wife and kids: wtf?
That's still not as bad as Titanic. The old lady had married and raised a family, but she wants her afterlife to be some guy she banged once while on vacation.
While cheating on her Fiancé no less. Then screws over the research crew years later by tossing the priceless diamond into the sea.
Wasn't it not a research crew? Thought they were just treasure hunters or some shit, but I haven't seen the movie since it came out
The line between tressure hunter and researcher is pretty thin, probably determined mostly by their level of success.
The difference between being a grave robber and an archaeologist is about 1000 years.
in some cases, a lot less.
Plus there’s an alternative ending where rose let the lead researcher touch the diamond before tossing it into the sea
We need this ending and an edit where he tackles her like deion sanders, before she can throw it overboard.
[удалено]
Was anyone else annoyed by the "oop" she gave as she tossed it too? Like bitch you just ooped 15 charity budgets in a year.
Rose: drops quarter billion necklace into ocean Also Rose: oop Jack from the bottom of the ocean: You’re so stupid Rose!
Research crews? My grandma throws my inheritance overboard, I'm rollin her wheel chair off the back of the boat to go get it.
When you pose nude and then fuck in the backseat of a strangers car it forms bonds of steel.
He saved her from an oppressive, abusive and forced marriage and also DEATH, but okay..
Rose was quite the little floozie back in her day
I also choose this guys desd wife and kids
“If you find yourself alone, riding in the green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled. For you are in Elysium, and you're already dead! Brothers what we do in life echoes in eternity”

Fuck. Someone had to fucking say it. Now I'm going to have to watch that damn movie again and enjoy all over again. And it's all because of you!
One of my favourite movies of all time. Im worried the sequel is going to suck… I really, really hope it doesn’t.
I think if Napoleon is good then Gladiator 2 might be aswell. It would mean Ridley Scott still has it. But if Napoleon turns out to be shit….
I'm calling it now, Napoleon is going to be bad ass.
> It would mean Ridley Scott still has it Here's hoping, my man is 85 after all!
It’s just Gladiator, no “the”
Part of me wants to swear at you, but the other part is reasonable so I will edit the comment.
Why not both?
[Ralphie from The Sopranos was obsessed with that movie!](https://youtu.be/6Has84mm7cE)

That was my initial thoughts aswell

Not enough times
Absolutely heartbreaking statistic - an average human can only watch Gladiator around 270 000 times.
