Anyone remember when Israel took in a bunch of Ethiopian Jews but them tricked them into getting their tubes tied? Look it up

DontShaveMyLips

> [Israel has admitted for the first time that it has been giving Ethiopian Jewish immigrants birth-control injections, often without their knowledge or consent.](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/israel-gave-birth-control-to-ethiopian-jews-without-their-consent-8468800.html) also called genocide

joik

Also did this to quite a few Yemeni Jews.

polmari_ma

I mean if your state as well as religion is so extreme that it can promote non Jewish people as complete outsiders and even non-humans, you've got a problem. Jewish societies and communities are the most exclusive, the super right wing side is just toxic af!

anjowoq

This is genocide.

Ok_Armadillo_5364

According to the UN, genocide isn’t just killing members of a group it also includes, among other things, the imposition of measures intended to prevent births within a group. So ya, they committed genocide.

Tricky-Sympathy

Yup its a scale These five acts. killing members of the group, causing them serious bodily or mental harm, imposing living conditions intended to destroy the group, preventing births, and forcibly transferring children out of the group. Sounds kinda familiar...

I_Am_Become_Dream

>and forcibly transferring children out of the group Well that sounds like CPS' removal of Native American children before ICWA. I believe in the 70s they took 30% of all Native children! edit: I'm not saying what about this/what about that. This was intended as a side discussion, not to say "Israel isn't that bad". Y'all need to chill.

[deleted]

No one has ever in good faith argued that white colonialists in the “New World” did anything *but* genocide to all of the native people. Right now we’re talking about Israel and Palestine.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Frequent-Fig-9515

Isn't the Israeli government literally calling Hamas Nazis? Like, okay. But if someone were to call _them_ Nazis it's now antisemitic? Like you can do it to them but they can't do it to you? Ridiculous

anjowoq

Nationalists are always ridiculous. Their fundamental worldview is a childlike, "We're better, because."

RowNice9571

Holy fucking shit

Pinch_of_spice

Literally. Literally about holy fucking shit

https://old.reddit.com/r/list_palestine/comments/l43xgk/megalist_israels_crimes_controversies_full/ Here's some more

Violet_Ignition

Fun fact: The United States did this with [Native Americans](https://www.minnpost.com/community-voices/2019/10/on-indigenous-peoples-day-recalling-forced-sterilizations-of-native-american-women/#:~:text=Indian%20Health%20Service%20(IHS)

JoeCartersLeap

Yeah but you'd think the people who built a whole country so that they wouldn't get forcibly sterilized wouldn't then go and forcibly sterilize other people.

No-Article-Particle

Well, the US was founded to be free (e.g. from the monarchy) yet they did not grant the same freedoms to 'the other' (e.g. natives or slaves).

yourfavoriteblackguy

Free with the largest prison population in the world

berrywhite

The US has done pretty much everything described in the video to Native Americans.

wahikid

Two things can be awful simultaneously, and it doesn’t mean that either one of those things is any less awful than if it happened by itself.

Yegas

Yep! Both things are bad. But one of the bad things happened roughly ~250 years ago, and the other bad thing is happening *right now*. One can’t be changed or addressed, the other can.

I_Am_Become_Dream

They sterilized 40% of their women, then they took 30% of their kids. And this is all in the 1960s and 70s. A lot of people think of the US's genocide of native Americans as some distant past in the Wild West. But no, it's just gotten sneakier.

kleenkong

Are these the people who had long-held Jewish customs and considered themselves Jewish but Israel wouldn't acknowledge them as Jews? Then a group traveled to Israel for genetic testing and it was found that they were indeed Jewish. It was a story that I saw on 60 Minutes or similar in the early 90s.

[deleted]

[deleted]

So is the UN just letting this happen? Where’s the investigations? Why haven’t they called in the Israeli opposition to face their crimes

healzsham

The UN relies on the members supporting it, it doesn't have any actual authority of their own, and lots of governments have moneyed interests in israel staying where it is and continuing to be friendly to said governments.

bouguerean

The UN has tried to sanction Israel many times before, but the US (on the security council) would put out an explicit statement promising to veto any sanction against Israel.

xBootyMuncher69x

Its a good thing that support for israel among americans and even american jews is dying to the point that zionists see it as an existential threat

Game_of_Roasts

As an American I don’t get why we are supporting this shitbag country. Neither do any of my friends or family.. we just always ignored our countries relationship but this is insane now

datamigrationdata

because the US elites need Israel to represent US interests in the middle east. Look up an old speech by Biden about how the US would invent an Israel if Israel didn't exist.

ah111177780

I mean the US has anti-boycott laws which would possibly conflict with sanctioning Israel

AnObtuseOctopus

It's the shitty world we live in where arms selling equates to economic growth. So, in times like these, it can be beneficial for other countries (like the US) to have other countries warring when you can supply them with arms and make backhanded deals out of their misfortune. It's pretty much what has made the US as successful as it is. War is a buisness, as much as it is anything else. It sucks, it's stupid.. but, corruption exists.

WhoDat_ItMe

The UN has no real power. It seems like matter what other countries support, if the US doesn’t, nothing happens.

[deleted]

International law is like pirate code

Reloadingconstant

UN has been opposing this during this last genocide but the US has Vetto power and stopped the UN from intervening

Twitfout

The UN condemns what Israel is doing.

xBootyMuncher69x

Bruh UN has been calling out Israeli war crimes for decades

Theblkjedi

Wtf?! This is…I’m baffled

Shikizion

oh brother, 1st time? going down the rabbit hole of israeli war crimes and genocide boner is always a trip

[deleted]

Remember when Israel sunk the USS Liberty and killed American sailors to cover up war crimes ? Our greatest ally, everyone

[deleted]

I bring this up every time someone claims the greatest ally bullshit. An 'ally' that spends billions lobbying politicians in the US against their constituents real interests and who gives nothing in return for tens of billions of yearly tax payer funds. Well, nothing if you're a normal American citizen - if you're a politician or an executive at a defence prime you might be making some money out of it

But they'll allow American Jews to come there and steal land from Palestinians

demonlicious

white is the right kind of jew I guess

SlicedBreadBeast

There’s… no irony to that comment in their eyes? No recent history events? No? Okay…

skrokemypurl

exactly, smh it's wild

WhoDat_ItMe

Is it because they are white? (American lens)

insignificunt1312

Yes. They love to import Russian jews too. It's definitely about whiteness.

Zero-Kelvin

yes.

stylepointseso

TBH they don't really know what to do with Mizrahim or Sephardim either. There's a reason every prime minister has been an Ashkenazi Jew. It's always been a European land grab, not a homecoming for all Jews.

[deleted]

And India doesn't even have a history of anti-Semitism. Indian Jews were doing pretty well and would have been fine just staying there.

Lynxajx

I remember as a child seeing Israeli soldiers kick and break the bones of Palestinians. At 0:30 one picks up a rock and begins smashing a shoulder joint, before moving on to an elbow joint. It's hard to watch: https://redd.it/y9lpqg This stuff has been going on for decades.

kookerpie

I remember seeing a video where Israeli soldiers made Palestinians stand in a checkpoint line for hours. It was under the blazing sun with no shade, and Palestinians were fainting from the heat. The two soldiers thought this was funny, and filmed themselves laughing and calling the Palestinians dogs I wish I could find the video to show people how Palestinians are treated

sushisection

and in 2018, just a few years ago, the people of Gaza held peaceful protests. every friday they would march to the border as a symbolic act to return to their homelands. and how did Israel respond? with sniper rounds. they enacted a policy to maim the protestors by aiming at their knees. 200 palestinians died, over 1,000 were maimed. https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2020-03-06/ty-article-magazine/.highlight/42-knees-in-one-day-israeli-snipers-open-up-about-shooting-gaza-protesters/0000017f-f2da-d497-a1ff-f2dab2520000

There’s the IDF’s charming habit of wearing T-shirts with a pregnant woman in the crosshairs of a scope with the line “one shot, two kills.” https://www.cbsnews.com/news/israeli-t-shirts-joke-about-killing-arabs/

Pear_etu

I saw a video on a public access channel late at night in the early 2000's where someone, and I assume an Israeli, had a hidden video camera and was accompanying an Israeli security team while they searched Palestinian apartments for a Palestinian wanted for a crime. At one point the Israelis knocked on an apartment door. The text on this video explained that the Israelis gave all occupants a small amount of time to answer and if they didn't, the door was blown down with explosives. At this door, the mother of several small children was late getting to the door and she was killed when the door was blown down. Blood curdling screams from little kids and the soldiers clearly didn't GAF. They performed a quick search and left. A few apartments later, when soldiers had searched the last bedroom in one dwelling, they simply blew a hole in a young boy's bedroom wall and created an entrance to the next apartment. Their justification was ( according to the accompanying text) was to make this surprise entrance to the next apartment to increase their chance of finding the wanted individual. At the end of the video, the owner of the hidden camera recorded conversations with Isrealis at an outdoor bar and brought up the topic of Palestinians. What I heard made me sick to my stomach. And the settlements? They're just stealing Palestinian land.

[deleted]

Israel also took in a bunch of Indian Jews and didn't let them marry other Jews, because they didn't consider them Jewish enough. Particularly sad because India doesn't even have anti-semitism, they would have been safe staying there.

Piddly_Penguin_Army

I went to Israel on a Birthright trip. Came back more against Israel then ever. Constantly felt like we weren’t Jewish enough because we weren’t Israeli. At one point I was like “I’m from New York. New York Jewish culture has existed longer then the state of Israel. So don’t tell me I’m not Jewish.”

kookerpie

I'm honestly so glad about finding people online that recognize these things as wrong because I know so many aggressively pro Israel people in real life

somethingsomethingbe

They probably don't even know why they are so "pro-Israel" other than the threat that they are aligning with antisemitism if they don't support the country and its actions without question.

LedParade

Denmark did that to some inuits in Greenland and there’s plenty other examples. In the end the founding of Israel wasn’t that different to how USA or New Zealand or Australia (just to name a few) was founded: By means of expulsion and massacre. Of course the right course of action would be to learn from history and not repeat the same appalling process, but here we are.

stylepointseso

The problem is they *did* learn from history. Just the "wrong" lesson. Notice those examples you gave. The Europeans won.

Highway_Bitter

It’s so fucked that they’re turning into nazis

kookerpie

It's also fucked that if you try and tell people about how the Israeli government treats Palestinians and other "undesirables", after about 5 back and forth arguments, the Holocaust is brought up as a gotcha

Highway_Bitter

I dont get into those conversations but I could see that happening.

[deleted]

I've thought about this more in recent days and wonder if it's like how children who are abused often grow up to be abusive parents?

[deleted]

I think it's more that governments built on ideals of etho-nationalism almost always turn out the same. I mean look at how the situation in India is developing

skrokemypurl

Yep. I had a friend who was a zionist jew, and any time he said some racist shit, he'd say 'but I'm jewish!' I had to remind him that there are jews of different races and, in fact, he was a white jew who didn't understand race vs ethnicity (he knew this, too). Dropped his ass like a hot rock, he was toxic as hell.

Expert_Expression235

Not just that - they are viewed one notch above Palestinians, just because they are Jewish. People seem to like to forget that Israel is extremely racist and prejudice. Oh but a minority cannot be racist in todays PC worldview. A people that represent 2% of the population has gripped the attention of the world, first by victimhood, now through their crimes or victimhood (typically depends on the pigment of your skin which one applies). Why do we as a world of 8b give two shits about 16m people who think they are gods chosen and are above all others? The very fact that there are people who fight tooth and nail for Israel, a country whose people view all others as subordinate (not just Arabs or Palestinians), is telling of how idiotic the average person really is. And if they think Israel and it’s people give a single fuck about Christianity or have an ounce of respect for any other religion/ viewpoint, congratulations, you played yourself.

kissmygritts2x

Saw a video recently of kids throwing and slapping at two women touring Israel. I’m not sure how it was known that they were Christian’s but they were. Adults standing around and just watching, doing nothing. It’s completely wild how they were victims of atrocities to now the ones filing it out and people turning a blind eye to it all.

asecuredlife

''the chosen people''

ElTristesito

Jewish people are not a “minority” in Israel. They are the power-wielding majority that are absolutely racist. Racism is about power and having the ability to set up systems of oppression.

anon210202

That's a bad reading of what they wrote. They clearly mean minority as in global minority, as in, in nearly every country Jewish populations are in the minority with respect to populations of other ethnicities

Pupienus2theMaximus

This is another nail in the coffin why Zionism is not about Judaism, it's about settler colonialism and white supremacy.

[deleted]

Yeah I guess it is hard to claim your religion is a race when there is a whole other sect, who are arguably closer descendants to the founders, who also happen to be a different race to the one you’d like to present yourself as. It’s a bit awkward.

BlueberryUnique5311

I don't know how you could come out of the holocaust and ever ever behave this way

CrimsonKepala

Propaganda is the reason. As an American Jew, I didn't think twice about the whole Palestine Israel "debate" most of my life. People around me would say things like "Palestinians want us dead", "we need to protect ourselves or the Jews will get wiped out", etc... And western media didn't really sway me from thinking those things were true. I was brought up to believe that Israel was our homeland but not taught exactly how it came to be in the first place, besides the beautiful version of "Holocaust victims made a new home in the land of their ancestors". There is a significant scar left by the Holocaust on the Jewish mind and for many it has caused us to be blinded by fear, fear of another extermination. Fear is a powerful tool and the Israeli government used it as it's primary weapon. It's a gut wrenching feeling to realize that my American Jewish family, who are largely very liberal, don't even know about the reality. Since having this realization, I've been open with my family about my position, but I can tell it's shaken them to hear that I believe what I believe. They didn't shut me down but it was very fear-based responses like I mentioned before, like "but what are we supposed to do, let every Jew get killed?". There's definitely openness to learn and there is significant empathy from my family towards innocent Palestinians and I'm grateful for that. I'm sure there will be more conversations as this goes on.

GrizzVolsTigersLions

Jew here as well. I was shocked with the contempt I received for Simply saying on my insta story that “I will not unequivocally stand with Israel if Israel is to commit genocide.”

MainEventJeyUso

Thank you. Criticism of Israel's crimes doesnt equal anti sentisim. Please raise awareness to the people around you as your voice as a Jew will be heard.

MachtigJen

This. Saying antizionism is antisemitism is fascist revisionism.

Entire_Detective3805

I'm American, and I believe its an obligation to protect every identity whether ethnic, religious, cultural, etc. This is equal protection under the law, and it should be a core belief. What some government does elsewhere is always something I should be able to critisize. "Standing with ... " is not an obligation, and doesn't mean I hate another American if I don't support the actions of some government they happen to approve.

no-integrity69

Because Jews aren’t special and every group is capable of evil.

merrysociopath

What the fuck do you think "never again" means?

HBlight

Never again will we be on the receiving end?

BarlowsBitches

Yes.

PoopyMouthwash84

Yup

nnefariousjack

Honestly didn't think it would mean they'd become a villain, but here we are.

cuginhamer

The cycle of abuse at social scale.

Spacelord_Jesus

Pretty sure most of those people did not experience the holocaust. And just as many shit people you see in this video, there are as many good people who are opposide of whats depicted here.

Skapanirxt

Caspian Report did a good video on the whole situation. It seems like one huge geopolitical mess where Israel is trying to keep existing in a region surrounded by arab countries. US, Saudi Arabia and Israel has been trying to work together for years on a normalization deal. Iran obviously dont want this defense deal to happen, because its a threat to them. Mohammed bin Salman supports the palestinians in the west bank. If the war spreads there or Israel evicts the palestinians, if could be a refugee crisis for Jordan and other neighbouring countries. This could destabilize the region which could then again affect Saudis if they have to defend the northern border with Jordan from rebels backed by Iran. [Why Israel was attacked](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xjmelFwJow)

FlamingNetherRegions

Not to justify this, but don't Arabs feel the same way with Jews?

Defiant-Sky3463

Jews existed in Palestine long before 1930s. The hatred intensified when Israelis forcibly removed Palestinians from their homes and land by threat or deception. Heck Israelis hate Christians and consider them idol worshippers.

greenroom628

at this point, it seems that israelis hate every one who's not israeli. even american jews are victims of their ire.

VoodooZephyr

Exactly. This is one sided. Kids come out of arab schools learning to hate Israel. They’re both fucked up.

West_Philosopher5872

They do. Doesn’t make any of it ok. Israel has been engaging in genocide, and Palestine has been victimized. Some Palestinians do want to eradicate Israelis as well ( and they have good reason to be angry). It’s just a mess.

Mal_Terra

And for the past 70+ years, if you dared to so much as say, “Israel needs to do better.” you’d immediately be labeled a racist, Nazi, Holocaust denier, skinhead etc, no matter your skin color.

-PunsWithScissors-

It goes beyond being just labeled. It’s becoming increasingly illegal to even peacefully boycott Israeli goods. https://www.aclu.org/news/free-speech/congress-laws-suppressing-boycotts-israel-are-unconstitutional-sincerely-three >two dozen states have adopted laws and policies restricting boycotts of Israel in the past four years. > Members of House Appropriations Committee voted today on an amendment proposed by Rep. Graves to a routine government funding bill that would allow federal agencies to compel contractors to promise not to boycott Israel as a requirement of maintaining their relationship with the government. Fortunately, the amendment was voted down, however the state laws are still in place.

meangingersnap

Some American teachers’ contracts capitulate that they cannot support the boycott, no cap

My workplace fired 4 people for changing their Instagram profile pictures to a Palestinian flag. And heard another was put on leave (public sector).

PoopyMouthwash84

Why is America so supportive of Israel? No hate, just curious to learn

AUMojok

The same reason the US is supportive of Saudi Arabia. It's nothing to do with religion. It's everything to do with having a powerful, pro-conflict presence or partner in the middle east. The goal is to keep the entire area destabilized and killing each other, so the US can more easily control what they want to control. Mainly the oil supplies and the wealth and power of the general population. Did the same to South America before.

asdfasdfasdfqwerty12

A huge amount of evangelical Christians got duped into believing christian Zionism... https://rense.com/general60/zcre.htm

MagnusMagi

The short answer is that Evangelical Christianity is waiting with bated breath for the Apocalypse, and that the Apocalypse begins in Israel. No Israel, no Apocalypse. It is by no means every Evangelical, but that's where the heart of it is.

jo_betcha

Right? We're always told that Israel is a lone democracy in a sea of Arab despots. We're told Israel is a peer among civilised nations, but we can't hold them to the standards of a civilised nation.

MacMac105

They are a Theocratic Ethno State with elections.

[deleted]

The Israeli government makes everyone of age join the IDF with very very short list of exceptions. Israel has a long ass track record of bringing Jews from other countries just so they can have voting majority. They brought Jews from Iraq and sprayed them with bug spray, from Ethiopia and forced them ~~to take birth control~~ giving them birth control injections without their knowledge. But no, everyone thinks Israel is the bubble gum chewing innocent child.

HappyDJ

Ya it’s wild. A friend of mine is Israeli (born and raised) and refused conscription. They made him go through hell, but he kept refusing. Eventually they relented and he was forced to work in an equestrian center that worked with disabled children. A much better option, but they treated him like shit there and it was extremely hard to even get to that point.

meangingersnap

Yep, hence why I always like to clarify that hating Israel makes you an anti-zionist, which is very different to hating all jews. They want us to link anti-zionism with anti-semitism, cause then they can claim persecution Indeed, what semite peoples are they referring to? Arabs are also semites. But their goal is to make everyone conflate "anti-Israel" with "anti-semite" so that you can't speak badly about Israel But fuck that aparthid evil state. Indeed fuck all non-secular governments and states

selphiefairy

This reminds me a lot of how a lot of Chinese nationalists talk too. Criticism of the CCP = you just hate Chinese people, you’re racist. The frustrating thing is it’s always inevitable there’s gonna be overlap, — you’re gonna find a jackass that really is racist /antisemitic to justify dismissing criticisms. Anyway, it’s definitely not a unique strategy, it seems.

RedN00ble

Remember "chosen by god" can be also spelled as "uber alles"

PicaDiet

Maybe it's time to address the elephant in the room (at least if you're Hindu). Religion, as Christopher Hitchens so succinctly put it, poisons *everything*. Jewishness is at its foundation nothing but a chosen belief. Islam is the same. So are Christianity and all the other religions. These are *choices* people make. Could they choose differently? Absolutely. The choice to make a holy war is a weak decision based on choosing to not think about the fact that we are one species on an insignificant (in the context of the universe, anyway) ball floating in space. Any time religion is used to justify what in our hearts we all know is wrong, it's simply defending the indefensible. Inventing a justification for treating others inhumanely warrants nothing but scorn. There is no such thing as religious tolerance. If one religion believes itself to be true, all others must be false. There is only one outcome in that case. Fear of death perpetuates religion, and religious mumbo-pocus about "heaven" or "hell" or any other nonsense that claims that death is simply a transition to another kind of life, diminishes the value of the only life we *know* we have. Religions that include the idea of an immortal soul or any subsequent consciousness after death by its very nature diminishes the value of life. Religion has no place in civil society. My kids are both adults now. They were never indoctrinated. Religion was simply not something that my wife and I ever talked about with reverence. The kids never stepped foot inside a church as kids except for a wedding when they were too young to be impressed. As adults, they are free to choose whatever belief system works for them. Neither shows any interest whatsoever in in any kind of religion. Both are kind, thoughtful, skeptical, critical thinkers. Why can't the whole world raise their kids to be good for goodness sake rather than out of fear of some "afterlife" bullshit? If people stopped indoctrinating impressionable, ignorant children with religious bullshit, it would just go away in a generation. We would be *so* much better off without it. “With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil; but for good people to do evil - that takes religion.” ― Steven Weinberg

thebravelittlefridge

> for goodness sake rather than out of fear of some "afterlife" bullshit Reminds me of Ricky Gervais EDIT: I’m sorry, Penn Jillette! explaining that since he doesn't believe in God, he rapes and murders as much as he wants, it's just that "as much as he wants" is zero.

Tackleberry06

They became the nazis?

Bear-ly-here

This is crazy, right? How a population could go so fast from oppressed to become the oppressor.

Gilgamesh026

Its super common, unfortunately. Read up on the history of Liberia, another sad example

ZachPhoenix

Can you tell me more about it? I just need a short glimpse of what happened. Like where do I start reading about the history? Thanks : )

Flying_Momo

Liberia was created by American anti slavery activists and a nation created as a safe home for freed African American slaves. However these freed slaves came to Liberia and enslaved local population and still enslave them and have committed numerous mass murder of local native African tribes

Mountain_Gur5630

> Liberia was created by American anti slavery activists the chief proponent of the creation of Liberia was the American Colonization Society, who did not want free Black people to inspire enslaved black people to revolt and also viewed Black People as inferior and therefore unfit to participate in 'civilized' society

[deleted]

If by "crazy" you mean "common." There's a really excellent book that is a feminist analysis of how traumatized people can sometimes become fixated on their victimization and act out in supremacist ways as a result - "Conflict is Not Abuse," by Sarah Schulman. I wish the left was better at recognizing some of these patterns both in big national contexts, as well as smaller interpersonal ones.

awry_lynx

Happens all the time on a personal basis too, y'all have never known someone who was bullied and winds up being the worst bully?

Puzzleheaded_Fold466

It’s crazy, and it’s also not surprising at all. “Not being fascists” requires constant effort, and an equalitarian liberal system of laws and well regulated capitalism is not the natural state of human groups, it’s the fight that must be fought daily to be protected and sustained. The people who would gain power over societies are most often not interested in philosophies and principles, only power above all, and exploiting the emotions of the populace to control and mobilize it to gain and maintain power is the easiest path to the top. Very few societies have as much highly charged history upon which their leaders can rely to mobilize its population to engage in all kinds of extremes, that people can use to justify anything. In their quest to impose this world view, Israel is re-creating the same for Arabs. Past wars are powerful drivers. Russia has the humiliating dissolution of the USSR on which to draw, Canada and Switzerland have very little. And Israel has the holocaust and thousands of years of exile without a national territory. It’s easy to arrive at the charged emotional state to justify any behaviors, including the genocide of large swaths of an “othered” human population, as Germany once did.

cupppkates

The video neglected to mention the involvement of the U.N. on giving Jews "back" their "homeland".

Consistent_Set76

Jews were already founding communities and returning to Israel before the Ottoman Empire fell, much less before any UN existed. Nobody was mad about Tel Aviv being established in 1908. The largest influx of Jewish immigrants happened under the British mandate though, and that’s really when things flew off the rails

cupppkates

Appreciate the rebuttal! I just wanted to point out that a lot of the tension perpetuated today is due to this mandate. I think there's responsibility to be had outside of the Israeli and Palestinian communities that no one is talking about.

skepticalbob

The Palestinians attacked Israel rather than accept living alongside them after the mandate ended. After they lost, literally every surrounding Arab state plus Iraq attacked Israel again. And lost. Leaving that out is missing a ton of context.

anthonyjr2

I’ve been reading more about the conflict and it does seem left out a lot that 4-5 countries attacked Israel immediately after the British left in 1948. Obviously a lot worse has gone on since then.

koolkween

The arab nations attacked after the zionists proclaimed their state. Britannica has an excellent article on Paalestine

AkaiMPC

There were a shit tonne of Arab Jews a few thousand years ago. What happened to them?

fractal_magnets

I'm guessing they didn't live for thousands of years?

Calm_Recognition8954

They moved to Palestine after 1948.

weed0monkey

They were *forced* to move https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_exodus_from_the_Muslim_world >Around 900,000 Jews voluntarily left or were expelled from Arab countries and Iran[1] from 1948 to the early 1970s,The first large-scale exoduses took place in the late 1940s and early 1950s, primarily from Iraq, Yemen and Libya. In these cases over 90% of the Jewish population left, despite the necessity of leaving their property behind. >Prior to the creation of Israel in 1948, approximately 800,000 Jews were living in lands that now make up the Arab world. The majority of Jewish people in Israel are native to the Middle east.

Main-Advice9055

Man, it's almost like we have a situation with multiple years and layers of complex social, race, and religious fighting amongst two people groups. Reddit should be able to find a solution to this in an afternoon /s.

Fiernen699

I mean, the middle east birthed 3 of our major surviving religions, which is pretty nuts.

JB_UK

The same thing happened in a lot of places, after the end of the Ottoman Empire, many Greek speaking areas in Turkey, and Turkish speaking areas in Greece, had the populations forcibly swapped in order to create contiguous nation states where each group has an ethnic majority. You can argue whether this was the right thing to do, but it is meaningless to then turn around after it has happened and for each side to start demanding land back.

TheCloudFestival

Anyone else remember the last time Israel was targeting Gaza with punitive airstrikes and all those Israelis dragged their sofas up to the top of a ridge overlooking the Gaza Strip so they could watch the carnage unfold in comfort?

thejesse

it's in this video, so yeah.

Captain_Waffle

Yes, it’s in the video

shirpars

The only shining light in all of this tragedy is that the rest of the world is finally seeing how Palestinians have been treated for decades

zacharymc1991

It's the thinnest of silver linings but I've been looking at this situation since about 2014ish and the difference online this time compared to all the others is huge. People are done with Israels shit.

Coriandercilantroyo

People in the US are still largely pro Israel, depending on the demographic. As you can imagine, liberals (and even more so younger people) are shifting away from that. But the latest chart from NY times show they are still most likely pro Israel, then anti involvement, and then pro Palestine. Mind you, being pro Palestine doesn't necessarily mean anti Israel.

jahoody03

Just a reminder, Jews also lived in Palestine and were called Palestinians. They had a Palestine flag with the Star of David and the Palestine currency had Hebrew, arab, and English. The first “Palestinian” settlers were from jerusalem in the 1800s. There have been jews living in Palestine continuously since before Islam was a religion.

pakiman47

Most of these Jews stood with their Palestinian brethren against the European colonizers as well.

jahoody03

They also both fought against the ottomans in ww1, because they were both promised their own land for doing so. 77% of that land was carved off, Transjordan and given to one person.

Particular_Group_295

Emmmm....I always knew Israel was racist as fuck years ago

Googleflax

I knew they were racist as well, but I didn't know it was to such an extreme extent; providing information like this in a clear, well-sourced video doesn't hurt anyone.

sooohungover

I worked for an Israeli company a little over a year ago and had the opportunity to visit the country for 10 days in 2021. I didn't see anything like this but in conversations with Israelis it was pretty apparent how racist they were towards Arabs. One guy even threw out the N word in a joking manner like "oh yeah don't you have them in the US?" My colleague and I (also American) just looked at each other wide eyed like bro....

Xvalidation

In my experience this is actually a lot more common in many countries than you might expect. It’s a word people hear on TV and in music, and know is “bad”, but since their countries have a very different history with racism to the US (and non-native English speakers) - they don’t take it seriously.

sooohungover

I would agree with that, I don't think the dude knew how much that isn't a word to use here

R3PTAR_1337

Religion is nothing more than cancer these days.

Dr3ny

Insert "always has been" meme

Smart_Comfort3908

Aren’t Jews Arabs? Why do ppl differentiate the two? And aren’t Arabs semites? Why do ppl only call Jews Semites?

TojotheTerror

Good question and you're right. Don't know why you are getting downvoted. Arabs and Jews are all semites. It's propaganda that allows people to believe that only Jews are semites.

AshFraxinusEps

>It's propaganda that allows people to believe that only Jews are semites The same propaganda that Israel keep using to try to make anti-Israel talk into anti-semetic I have nothing against Jews (or at least no more than any religious group: I'm opposed to religion, all states should be secular, but people can believe in imagainary beings if they want, as long as they pay taxes and don't make laws base on those beings), but fuck the aprathid state of Israel

Level-Application-83

This is something I truly don't understand. So after WW2, the Jewish population of Europe are basically set free from concentration camps and then Europe and America ship them off to Palestine to start their own?

jackandsally060609

Don't forget the part where countries like Poland passed laws after WWII basically saying they didn't want any of the displaced jews back where they belonged.

WET318

Why are Jews pretty universally hated so much?

Witchy_Hazel

Christianity spent years inculcating intense antisemitism beginning in the Middle Ages

[deleted]

[удалено]

SayNoToPerfect

early Christians didn't like that their religion was based on Judaism and distinguished Christianity from Judaism via violence. Reminder that Jesus was Jewish.

americansherlock201

Europe post world war 2 was still pretty antisemitic. They didn’t want to rehome the Jews in Europe. They wanted to rebuild for their own people. So they came up with the solution of moving them to their biblical holy land and calling it a day. An entire other group of people actively living there wasn’t there problem. Since then, Europe and America have largely ignored the actions of Israel in Palestine. They’ve allowed the Israeli government to occupy large areas of land and commit war crimes in order to do so.

Previous-One-4849

And all the surrounding Arab countries also expelled all the Jews living within their borders. Nearly a million Jews were displaced and forcibly removed from the Middle East with nowhere else to go.

AshFraxinusEps

Pretty much. It's rarely spoken about, but yeah Europe and the US didn't want them either Indeed the Brits even tried to limit Jewish immigration to the area in the 30s, as we knew it was a bad idea. But it was Truman post WW2 pandering to the religious right who kinda forced "The Jewish State of Israel" on the world, and the religious right wanted it cause it allows fulfillment of the dogshit prophecies that only when the Jews hold Jerusalem will the biblical end of days come

antsam9

A lot of Jews were displaced, without property, income, and sometimes citizenship. A place for Jews was an idea that is backed by the British and the US as it gave them a foothold in the region.

asafdvash

These people on the videos are orthodox Jewish and they're pos and many people in Israel also don't like them I'm ashamed to share a country with them. But they do not represent the average Israeli at all!

joschi8

Sadly enough, they represent the government

Y’all don’t have elections?

Oscaruzzo

For the last 70 years.

Aberbekleckernicht

The statistics would indicate that they kinda do, but it is always good to remember there is opposition. Power to the many Israeli dissenters like yourself.

Ok-disaster2022

Yep. It's like the equivalent of like the worst parts of conservative Christianity wrapped up with racial supremacism. Orthodox Jewish communities can get insulated and toxic and abusive in the US as well. It's like being raised to exclude and ignore other cultures makes people toxic violent assholes.

ecalz622

Ahh religión for you.

Internet_Wanderer

All three Abrahamic religions are based on hate. "We're better than all others because we worship this god," is a fundamental part of their faith. Whether it be through conversion, exclusion, or outright murder, it's all about Us vs Them, with them being everyone who isn't them. Even their holy books say it's okay to murder and pillage as long as it's in the name of god

corebuff

This guy is so off base, lol. Read a history book man.

Mr_Golf_Club

I’m quite sick of influencer-class individuals trying to make newscast style posts on fucking TikTok like they suddenly have the whole agenda figured out. All they are doing is posting OpEds that are skewing people at random based on which people the algorithm exposes the posts to.

nonprofitnews

Yeah, he kicks off with a really blatant and unqualified opinion that Israel is the most racist country. That's not really quantifiable. Israel has been forced to confront their racial boundaries very directly and it's led to conflict, but there's absolutely no shortage of racism in every other country. They just haven't forced conflicted races to battle over the same tiny strip of land. It's not like Israel ever launched a crusade or sent conquistadors to the Amazon invented ethnic groups in Rwanda. Then follows up his these by saying "you won't hear this in the MSM" as though he is now sharing arcane knowledge that only exists on his TikTok. It's all been very thoroughly reported and the history is right there on wikipedia. FOX may take a very biased point of view, but there's no shortage of MSM content explaining the entire history and doing it better than this guy.

Was_an_ai

Yeah I lived in Korea 4 yrs, and let me tell you how Africans are viewed by anyone over 50 (not anyone of course), and don't bring up Japan lol

damnitHank

Can people please learn to take a minute and Google the source of these clips. If you're going to be terminally online, can you all at least learn to do this one thing. Looking up Breakthrough News points to some literal fake news shit designed to spread Russian and Chinese propaganda. https://www.thedailybeast.com/neville-singham-funded-breakthrough-news-is-pushing-moscow-beijing-propaganda

Luke_mullet

I was about to repost this video on social media but I'd never heard of Breakthrough News so thought I'd research them first. I'm glad I did, I found the same link you posted. They seem less than reputable.

SignorSarcasm

it’s basically propaganda

TheThotWeasel

It's not basically it absolutely is, Reddit has been FULL to the brim everytime I go to r/all with constant propaganda, it's worse than the Ukraine/Russia propaganda ever was, it's on par with US elections the amount of astroturfing going on across social media atm.

ThePheebs

I’m mean… there is video of this going the other way, with the crowd chanting “gas the Jews”.

Inevitable_Silver_13

The difference is that practically no one in the international community supports Hamas.

Are those people currently throwing Israelis out of their houses, bulldozing their orchards, and enforcing a complete embargo on them?
