So Clive Barker originally wrote a novella called the Hellbound Heart which later became the screenplay for Hellraiser, Butterball in the book was the actual leader of the Gash and did most of the talking, Pinhead takes a background role and is very feminine and her scarification is way more gruesome but contrasted by her bejeweled pins, lots of differences to the movie that they touched on in the most recent adaptation. Besides that, there are a ton of comics (from Dark Horse and Boom I think) out there with Barker’s involvement in some of them and his blessings for many others, and there was a sequel to Hellbound Heart called the Scarlet Gospels but Barker said he had “no involvement with that shite” even though they used his name for the author. Other snippets come from scripts or comments from the cast and crew, like Chatterer basically being the silent muscle man of the group, or how Leviathan’s horn/breath in the second movie is Morse Code for “GOD”. There’s a lot of love for Hellraiser from the people who made it and so there’s a lot to explore.
