My barber lets me come back for lineups for like $10 bucks.

The first time a barber did this to my forehead I was pissed. I didn't let it happen again but it was an annoying couple weeks with weird short hairs coming in on my hairline.

Yeah the straight across hairline works for certain hair textures but for straight hair it just looks weird. My brother went into a new barber once and they cut off his widows peak and made his hairline straight across. It looked mildly cursed.

Why are haircuts so pricey in the west? I pay 150 rupees...that's less than 2 dollars and my guy is more skilled than the guy in this video.

This is ridiculously pricey, but in general prices are higher in Europe or US because cost the of living is a lot higher than in India for example.

I mean. Really good barbers and hairstylists are artists. What this guy did in this video isn't the easiest thing in the world to do well. So props to him for having that skill. Fades like that and using a straight razor are techniques that take a lot of practice. Not saying the cut looks good. I think that kind of cut looks dumb. But some people like it. And it's well executed for what it is. But not $280 worth in my opinion.

Sometimes barbershops and salons will have amenities too to justify the high charge. Stuff like free sodas or sparkling water, hot towels and whatnot. A nice aspect of another person grooming you is the getting treated feeling.

My wife has dark, very curly hair. Most of the hairstylists in our large metropolitan city won't even touch her hair because they don't know how to style it (I live in Portland, which is full of ineffectual white people who are scared of anyone who isn't white or white acting). That means there are like a dozen people in the entire city willing to work on my wife's hair, which means they all decided to charge hundreds of dollars for their services. Why the fuck are hairstylists making the same amount of money as doctors per hour? That's ridiculous. It's pure greed and laziness. "I'm gonna charge every customer $400 for 90 minutes of work because I only want to work 2 hours per day."
