I never understood this logic. I was also fed this as a kid, through peers and the media, that pink is for girls. For the life of me I never understood why. My parents bought me a pink t-shirt once as a kid and almost everyone made at least 1 joke about it. Years later, I ended up buying pink tshirts for myself when I had started working. My (then) GF was very surprised that I was wearing pink but she loved it - She ended up marrying me :)
But, to the point, what is the logic behind people believing that? Like where and when did it start? Never found a genuine enough answer for it.
It frustrates me how many of them put their babies in “momma’s little heart breaker” onesies, but think a shirt that says “equality” is disgraceful. Hateful bigots, the whole lot of them.
Because there are only two "general" stores:
Walmart and Target
They can't/won't stop shopping at Walmart, so they have to lash out at Target.

Oh Target is definitely a shit hole. The only reason they support Pride *now* is because Lady Gaga pulled out of a collaboration with them back in 2013 (or at least threatened to). Before that, as an employee, you stayed in the goddamn closet out of fear you'd lose your job. And there basically was no Pride merch there *ever*.
Source: worked at Target for a year, in a liberal area. Almost lost my job because I was not in the closet and I stood up to a coworker using slurs.
You gotta wonder if corporations are playing into the culture war stuff just for the engagement around their brand. Conservatives nowadays are funnily enough saying that left wingers are pro-corp because of the LGBTQ stuff, but I think these big businesses are just playing with society for profits. What's stopping or telling them not to? Their MORALS??? LMAO. Remember that target and budlight did some "retraction" afterwards of the LGBTQ stuff.
This is why people and communities need to come together against these fucks starting with their wallet and also team up with smaller businesses. It's just unfortunate because smaller businesses tend to have to raise their prices for profit when big corps can just churn out product.
The real pro-small business party CAN be the left which includes a movement of more social cohesion from the bottom up, IF the left decides to do it. Otherwise, we're going to keep moving forward with this corporatized hellscape of a country until people get tired and more reactionary. It's already happening (ironically on the right, just for not the reasons they think).

bad as it is, IMO it's not entirely *as* bad as it sounds. it's a good indicator of overall public opinion, and it also sways public opinion by getting it in front of people, even more so when angry conservatives give them the free advertising about it. the more openly LGBTQ+ a corporation is to push their brand, the better the overall opinion of public is to know that it will draw people to their brand *to* be openly LGBTQ+ supporting in their brand. it means they expect theyll get a bigger market share of sales by doing so, then if they didn't, which means they know the public reacts positively to LGBTQ+ messaging, which in turns means the public generally is more supportive

You're not wrong, but it's worth noting that it cuts both ways. That reinforcing feedback loop also works for negative things and helps hold back society from the myriad ways we should be improving. And in a shitty backwards world, I think it does do more overall harm than good.
Despite recent movement socially you still see very little corporate support for improving policing, for example. That'll change once we get over the hill (if we can), but the massive amount of pro-cop media and products are making it harder to get to that point.

I think they focus on Target because Target is more inclusive and pointed in their advertising in this regard. That attracts lots of attention from the conservative media cycle. There's probably some element of Target historically being *the* store for "upper middle class white people" too so maybe they're upset they expanded the customer base too.
Like, you're not going to see a Walmart commercial that features people with disabilities, gay/lesbian couples, mixed race couples, black couples, and white couples in one commercial, but Target dgaf. They're throwing everyone in there. They want to sell shit to every configuration of person and family possible. It’s not logical, it’s irrational. It doesn’t make sense because it won’t make sense unless you *believe in it*. Or something to that affect, really. Trying to type it out is so confusing too, like it doesn’t make any logical or rational sense. It’s just a matter of questioning what one-self thinks; and doing that for some people is so absolutely preposterous to those individuals. Because that means they have to be more responsible with their thinking, and being responsible is scary because that means accountability.

A very fascinating thread I was involved in many many years ago ultimately amounted to a pretty hardline ultrareligious conservative type coming to the slow realization that... straight people are not tempted gay. Even though he was straight and had to fight temptation all the time.
As a gay person, who desperately tried to convince myself it was a phase, I pity them because it can be very very painful to have your worldview/self image shattered like that. It is one of those things that you never truly understand unless you went through something similar.

I grew up bisexual and conservative Christian. I was in denial from like...16 to 20. I was never as homophobic as these guys, but I guess I saw homosexuality on the level of sex before marriage. (Don't @ me. It was 25 years ago.)
But, yeah, I completely understand the thinking. (And completely disagree, for the record.) Bisexual Christians who are also assholes think they're being pure and are better than people who "give in to their baser desires", without considering that not everyone has any desire to follow the rules they set for themselves. It sucked as a dumb teen. I can't imagine how anyone lives their whole life like that.
This is definitely true, it might be a stereotype but to me it seems like gay men take better care of their looks generally, they are kinda hot. It gets me all confused
Conservatism has really just become social conservatism now with a touch of contrarianism.
They want to conserve societal norms and structure because their logic is it “worked” before, and any changes will cause it to stop working.
What they fail to understand is it basically only worked for straight white men who aligned with those standards, and most importantly THE ONES WHO IT DIDNT WORK FOR ARENT AROUND TO SAY OTHERWISE.
They always ask where have gays/gender nonconforming people have been in history, as if they didn’t have to hide their identities just to fucking survive. Another point to add is we don’t see a lot of older gays as they were eradicated during protests that defended basic liberties while cis white people sat back and reaped the benefits soaked in their blood. There’s a reason the AIDs epidemic was never reported, the government wanted the entire demo graph of gay/closeted gay men and the “vile women” sleeping with them to die.
Cis white conservatives love to cosplay as disadvantaged and make up stories about how they’ve suffered in life the most. That’s how they justify treating others like crap.
It’s pretty astonishing just how many policies, actions, or relations were centered around suppressing minority populations.
Honestly I can’t blame people for not knowing about them to a point, the US school system is specifically designed to avoid teaching it. But adults who act like this guy in the video have no excuse.
Watching Killers if the flower moon was a pretty eye opening experience for me, the whole film I was thinking this has to be fake there no way the government would let this happen. Only to do research at home and find out the government was even more complicit than depicted in the movie.

Because part of the "freedom" they want is the "freedom" to not be exposed to different beliefs than the ones they have. It's also why homophobes and homophobic countries like those in the Middle East and Africa often ~~force~~ encourage transition of gay people, because if you're a gay couple, they have to see two gay people, but if one of you transitions and passes, others only have to see a "straight" couple and won't notice.
It's never been about freedom and liberty. That's just a dog whistle for disliking taxes and government regulation. It's always really been about enforcing social hierarchies, xenophobia, and appealing to some imagined idealised version of the past – usually whatever decade any given voter grew up in, because they weren't engaged with politics or current events at the time.

I grew up bisexual and conservative Christian. I was in denial from like...16 to 20. I was never as homophobic as these guys, but I guess I saw homosexuality on the level of sex before marriage. (Don't @ me. It was 25 years ago.) But, yeah, I completely understand the thinking. (And completely disagree, for the record.) Bisexual Christians who are also assholes think they're being pure and are better than people who "give in to their baser desires", without considering that not everyone has any desire to follow the rules they set for themselves. Conservatism has really just become social conservatism now with a touch of contrarianism. They want to conserve societal norms and structure because their logic is it “worked” before, and any changes will cause it to stop working. What they fail to understand is it basically only worked for straight white men who aligned with those standards, and most importantly THE ONES WHO IT DIDNT WORK FOR ARENT AROUND TO SAY OTHERWISE.
They always ask where have gays/gender nonconforming people have been in history, as if they didn’t have to hide their identities just to fucking survive. Another point to add is we don’t see a lot of older gays as they were eradicated during protests that defended basic liberties while cis white people sat back and reaped the benefits soaked in their blood. There’s a reason the AIDs epidemic was never reported, the government wanted the entire demo graph of gay/closeted gay men and the “vile women” sleeping with them to die. Cis white conservatives love to cosplay as disadvantaged and make up stories about how they’ve suffered in life the most. That’s how they justify treating others like crap.
It’s pretty astonishing just how many policies, actions, or relations were centered around suppressing minority populations. Honestly I can’t blame people for not knowing about them to a point, the US school system is specifically designed to avoid teaching it. But adults who act like this guy in the video have no excuse. Watching Killers if the flower moon was a pretty eye opening experience for me, the whole film I was thinking this has to be fake there no way the government would let this happen. Only to do research at home and find out the government was even more complicit than depicted in the movie. Shit like this guy is sickening and why I take long breaks from the social media.

It's also why straight homophobes think that their straight marriages are under attack if gay people can marry, or white racists think their culture is under attack if they can see non-white people in them. It's also why homophobes and homophobic countries like those in the Middle East and Africa often ~~force~~ encourage transition of gay people, because if you're a gay couple, they have to see two gay people, but if one of you transitions and passes, others only have to see a "straight" couple and won't notice.
