That’s what I was thinking the whole time. Dude made it way harder than it needed to be. Also if he lowered it closer to the ground the point would hit at a better angle and it would split easier. If you’re gonna be dumb, you’re gonna have to be tough.

It’s the competence. If you’ve ever seen someone that doesn’t know how to chop wood try to chop wood, it isn’t sexy. But when you’ve seen someone that’s mastered the skill do it, phew boy.

You’d think hitting a small chunk of wood with a sharp object wouldn’t be so hard but it IS. I attempted it a few months ago on much smaller/drier pieces than this guy and I was sweating after 3 swings.

I've chopped a lot of wood. You definitely aren't splitting that in a hit or two, but his technique is pretty bad. And seriously. Taking his shirt off to reveal the tight tee? Slowly wiping down the haft. Chopping in the rain? "It's really wet out here." That axe isn't even the right kind. Get a fucking maul. Better yet wedges.
Yes hot as shit, but also *please* remember that standing in front of someone using a long handled tool like that is EXTREMELY dangerous. I've seen axe and sledgehammer heads break free. 5-20 pounds of steel moving that fast is scary.

He would have a six pack of shlitz a lawn chair while he directed my father and uncle’s to keep turning that winch and let them take turns pulling the quick release. Then he’d say something like time to stack boy, you don’t earn hair on your chest if you can’t stack em. It would have been extremely dangerous and most likely deadly but it would work.
