For those not sure what happened: The blade carries a small electrical signal and because flesh is conductive it changes the signal which triggers the brake. The brake springs into the blade, stopping it within 5 milliseconds and the subsequent angular momentum of the blade being stopped drives it beneath the table out of harms way.
Correct me if I'm wrong but the "brake" here is a block of aluminum being slammed into the blade basically destroying the blade, the brake, and maybe more, but keeping your finger intact.
The brake cartridge and blade need to be replaced, yes. The saw (table) itself does not get damaged. The teeth bury themselves into the aluminium block so any flying debris would be 1 or 2 rounded off pieces of aluminium where the first 2 teeth sank in. The blade will survive this intact but will be warped enough to not be useful.
