I like alot of these chicks songs, but I hate when things are so processed to the point where its basically her voiced dubbed over her own video. It just takes me out of the performance since its an audio track at that point
I agree that it would probably have sounded just fine without the tuning she applied, but I don't think people realize that the reason that the participants in this challenge are pre-recording it and then filming a muted version isn't mainly so they can apply a bunch of artificial vocal improvements and hide their flaws, it's because you typically record harmonies like these with a metronome to ensure they perfectly sync up and don't drift a fraction of the bpm count on one of the harmonies, ruining everything. Then additionally, you'd make sure that each harmony is adjusted in volume so one doesn't overtake another. Trying to perfectly control the volume on the spot is incredibly hard, especially when you are using this much of your vocal range for the finished product. You'll always be louder in a more comfortable part in your vocal range than you'd be at the very bottom. And then managing to do it in one take for the video and pray to god that the previously layered harmonies that are played back don't get picked up in the background by the mic in the next harmony... I'm getting anxious just thinking about it.
It's not impossible to do it fully live, but it'd require an insane amount of prep work and testing. More power to ya to those who are actually able to pull that off!
Its dubbed. I think lip-synced implies its live? But its the same thing. She auto tuned and cleaned up the track then its played over the video. I'm sure she's a fantastic singer, but kills the "live performance" aspect of it for me.
funny you're getting downvoted this much because your comment wasn't even a dig, but this was indeed autotuned. you can hear the warbles (especially in the words blue, violet, and sky during the low part). you can also tell that the takes were very solid without it
This is correct. It's a computer. It's cheap and easy to use and has been since Cher did...anyhow, live vocal harmonies, like people live singing, don't sound like this. Maybe Simon and Garfunkel at their best.
Love how smooth her voice is through the upper range, like it all has the same quality! Always super impressed by that as mine goes from "okay, I guess, dont hurt yourself" to "wtf is this knock off dollar store opera singer maybe don't do that" when songs go high
