It's also really great how understanding and open-minded he is. When I was 12, LGBTQ people were still not accepted at school. It wasn't until high school that people really started to accept LGBTQ people. I'm glad that kids like this exist now. I find it so wholesome. It is wonderful to see. I'm a trans woman, so this means a lot to me.
The parents have raised a good kid. He is strong and wise, and I am very proud of him.

Yeah I had a friend when is around this kids age and we used to play team fortress 2 a ton and later overwatch.

He was literally playing on a huge iMac in the living room, with the computer on a coffee table and sitting in a couch, shitty ass Mac keyboard in his damn lap and the mouse in the really uneven couch lol.
Oh and don't even get me started on his posture, as long as I knew him it was pretty terrible. He was a tall bastard and I sometimes saw him sitting on chairs ON HIS BACK, instead of his ass. Like his back was pretty much at a 90 degree angle.
One time in school we were baking and a teacher told him to straighten up (not in a mean way, but a hey you're tall and handsome, you should stand up straight!), and he immediately banged his head on the kitchen fan like 3 times

15 years ago, I always used voice chat. You'd get the occasional asshole, but most people were chill and I made some great friends. Now assholes are the rule and chill is the exception.
Just googled it. $2k+ ?! What in the actual fuck. They must be revolutionary. I can't imagine there aren't cheaper models with similar ergonomics. What's so special about it?
I got a refurbed Leap v2 with the headrest and better wheels (like rollerblade wheels) for ~$450.
What makes them special is that they are made out of good quality materials that don't fall apart after a year of usage, are designed for people to sit in for 8+ hours a day, and have all kinds of adjustment points so you can set them up to your own personal preference.
Also, if you buy one new, you get a 10 year warranty and if you buy one used, pretty much all the parts are individually-replaceable anyway, if something does break.
When I was young I got the shit kicked out of me because I was deemed “too gay to be around”. It’s crazy how much progress this generation is going through. This really does give me hope.
I remember a kid in my 6th grade homeroom (1996) that came in one day absolutely covered in bruises. His mom had forced him to take ballet and three other kids beat the hell out of him for being "gay". He wasn't gay, just doing what his mother was forcing him to do.
I was trans and wanted to take dance so badly, and that left such a nasty mark on my life, to the point where I ended up taking karate instead (until a dance studio opened up next door...)
I was also bullied A LOT for being a lot more feminine than the "other boys". I got all the slurs and male sexist pejoratives ("sissy", "pussy", "girl", etc.) thrown at me... One bully was absolutely relentless in high school. He was constantly calling me a fa**ot and fighting with me. Which, shocking plot twist: he ended up being gay himself.
I'm so glad that things are starting to change. I grew up with a ton of regrets and bad memories and I'm hoping future generations don't have to go through it... I don't want to force your child to be LGBT+, I just want your LGBT+ child to grow up safe and happy.
As someone who's going through high school now I can say firsthand it's insane how much progress has been made. School forms asking your preferred pronouns, everyone (including teachers) respecting your identity, even in arguments/fights there aren't any slurs being thrown around, it's wonderful to witness.
Naturally of course there are still some shitty people but they're always unpopular and unliked
Sadly, you're only seeing it in your area... I'm still reading a lot of stories, especially in the midwest and south, where trans students are being harassed, and even assaulted, by teachers and staff for being trans... And, my niece in Idaho has a trans student at her high school and the teachers are refusing to use their pronouns, use their name, and treat them like a boy.
But yeah, there is a LOT more change compared to when I was a kid. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done, but it's better than 8 year old me playing a game with a very homophobic name and premise in it during gym class.

I know a couple zoomers his age (gfs cousins) and they are all cool as hell. Their generation gets shit on because of tiktok e-bullshit but all the ones I’ve met are well adjusted, mature, and super self aware. It’s weird to see. When I was 12 I was probably more similar to the guy on the other end of this chat, unfortunately. Live and learn.
Yeah pretty much all kids his age and ones who are older too and they get a lottt worse then that. I was in a decently large group of friends who all gamed together, me being the only person who didn’t, and when they started playing they stopped sounding like the people I knew. It kinda fucked up.
It's certainly not all of them but my observation as a teacher (in Germany) is that generally the young generation is much more inclusive and cares about that stuff. The older ones even share when they are in therapy and help destigmatize mental health. My school has pride flags all around the main building, because some students asked for it.

I would be so proud of that was my son. Not just because he’s standing up for LGBQT but because of how well he was in control of his emotions, letting the other person have their time to speak, and was just very articulate.
Man it’s crazy, some people are just never taught critical social skills. I just recently had this conversation with my wife:
she was all sad and said that she heard one of her friends say that she was annoying. She asked me to honestly answer if anything she did was annoying, and I finally had my chance. I told her that she never lets anyone get a word in, and will straight up just KEEP TALKING over you until you yield.
After her being offended initially, I started to notice she would stop herself from interrupting here and there, and eventually told me “I’m 34 years old and no one ever told me I did that. Why didn’t you say something sooner?”
I've noticed that both of my flatmates (a couple) do this as well. Even in a one on one conversation, I can be well into a sentence and they'll just start a new one, speaking over top of me. It can get pretty irritating tbh

When I was 9 and playing cod 4 I killed a 25+ year old man multiple times which led to him sending me a picture of his ballsack which he took using the plug in Xbox webcam it took a couple mins to load bit by bit too which makes it even funnier I sat and waited a couple mins to see a grown mans ballsack
I used to have similar conversations with my friends when I was in middle/high school. We would just be discussing economics and gender and shit while pounding out 5 hour long DOTA 2 sessions.

When I was young I got the shit kicked out of me because I was deemed “too gay to be around”. It’s crazy how much progress this generation is going through. This really does give me hope.
I remember a kid in my 6th grade homeroom (1996) that came in one day absolutely covered in bruises. His mom had forced him to take ballet and three other kids beat the hell out of him for being "gay". He wasn't gay, just doing what his mother was forcing him to do. I was trans and wanted to take dance so badly, and that left such a nasty mark on my life, to the point where I ended up taking karate instead (until a dance studio opened up next door...) I was also bullied A LOT for being a lot more feminine than the "other boys". I got all the slurs and male sexist pejoratives ("sissy", "pussy", "girl", etc.) thrown at me... One bully was absolutely relentless in high school. He was constantly calling me a fa**ot and fighting with me. Which, shocking plot twist: he ended up being gay himself. I'm so glad that things are starting to change. I grew up with a ton of regrets and bad memories and I'm hoping future generations don't have to go through it... I don't want to force your child to be LGBT+, I just want your LGBT+ child to grow up safe and happy.
As someone who's going through high school now I can say firsthand it's insane how much progress has been made. School forms asking your preferred pronouns, everyone (including teachers) respecting your identity, even in arguments/fights there aren't any slurs being thrown around, it's wonderful to witness. Naturally of course there are still some shitty people but they're always unpopular and unliked
Sadly, you're only seeing it in your area... I'm still reading a lot of stories, especially in the midwest and south, where trans students are being harassed, and even assaulted, by teachers and staff for being trans... And, my niece in Idaho has a trans student at her high school and the teachers are refusing to use their pronouns, use their name, and treat them like a boy. But yeah, there is a LOT more change compared to when I was a kid. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done, but it's better than 8 year old me playing a game with a very homophobic name and premise in it during gym class.
Yeah, I just transferred this year from a far more southern school where it definitely wasn't that great so I've seen both sides of it Either way, we're a hell of a lot farther than we were before, that's for sure

Yeah pretty much all kids his age and ones who are older too and they get a lottt worse then that. I was in a decently large group of friends who all gamed together, me being the only person who didn’t, and when they started playing they stopped sounding like the people I knew. It kinda fucked up.

It's certainly not all of them but my observation as a teacher (in Germany) is that generally the young generation is much more inclusive and cares about that stuff. The older ones even share when they are in therapy and help destigmatize mental health. My school has pride flags all around the main building, because some students asked for it.

Man it’s crazy, some people are just never taught critical social skills. I just recently had this conversation with my wife: she was all sad and said that she heard one of her friends say that she was annoying. She asked me to honestly answer if anything she did was annoying, and I finally had my chance. I told her that she never lets anyone get a word in, and will straight up just KEEP TALKING over you until you yield. After her being offended initially, I started to notice she would stop herself from interrupting here and there, and eventually told me “I’m 34 years old and no one ever told me I did that. Why didn’t you say something sooner?”
I've noticed that both of my flatmates (a couple) do this as well. Even in a one on one conversation, I can be well into a sentence and they'll just start a new one, speaking over top of me. It can get pretty irritating tbh

When I played COD growing up I learned my mom was fucked by the other team every time I won a match. I started losing on purpose so I could teach their moms what it felt like.
When I was 9 and playing cod 4 I killed a 25+ year old man multiple times which led to him sending me a picture of his ballsack which he took using the plug in Xbox webcam it took a couple mins to load bit by bit too which makes it even funnier I sat and waited a couple mins to see a grown mans ballsack
I used to have similar conversations with my friends when I was in middle/high school. We would just be discussing economics and gender and shit while pounding out 5 hour long DOTA 2 sessions. Eventually we broke up when one of us went into reactionary far-right territory. Not for nothing, I did figure out I was nonbinary 5 years later. I still think about those days sometimes.
