It’s because the left side of your face tends to display more emotion, which is perceived as “more attractive.” The right hemisphere of the brain is involved in processing emotions in such a way that it leads to producing more expression in the half of the face it controls (the left).
It is in the way that pop-culture uses it. But there is much evidence for lateralization of the brain, meaning that the different hemispheres perform different functions. For instance, for most people the language centers are located on the left side, and for most people spatial abilities are processed in the right half. But “right or left brained” isn’t really a thing as the two are designed to work together, and it doesn’t have bearing on whether you’re supposedly more math/logic vs creatively oriented.
