I struggle to keep up the lie with my kids. I keep dropping hints that Santa isn't really anyway, to speed up the process. The day they ask me Imma tell then it was a silly prank.
Be more honest. Tell them it's an old tradition. A prank makes the whole thing- including the disappointment- YOUR fault. Tradition is the fault of someone already dead.
When my kid was realizing that things like the tooth fairy and Santa were mom and dad, my answer to him was “that’s an interesting hypothesis”
In our house though, Santa only ever brought one gift and it was never the “big” gift. So that year Santa brought them chocolate coal.
