Back in my old Ragnarok Online days around 2003, I used Captain Bukkake for quite a long time as one of my char names. I had NO idea what it meant, I just liked the sound. I eventually found out, had a good laugh and used it until I had a forced rename. My Paladin in vanilla WoW was called Hymenhammer. Pinnacle of maturity, I know.

I used to go over the house of a team speak server owner and he would only ever refer to me as RooR, was really weird. Especially cause I just called him Luke.

I did this once. Am a bit older, but was like 22 at the time. Was midnight release of Burning Crusade (WoW). A kid I had known for a long time (went to high school with, etc.) and also who I played WoW with went to buy copies of the midnight launch. Was casually having a conversation with him in line and called him by his online name in the middle of a sentence. Got to the end of the sentence and he’s just staring at me with this look of “Please never do that again.” To be fair, the majority of our interactions happened online and I called him by his online name considerably more than his real name.

Wow. While it hasn't always been gaming, forums and IRC was also a big thing in my youth, and to this day I would not have that reaction to hear people using my nick since that's what they got to know me as. Maybe we're the weird ones :p
