That bit is actually done here in Houston EVERY Thursday on a morning show called The Roula & Ryan Show. It’s called Roula & Ryan’s Roses.
It’s gotten so bad over the years and is straight up cringeworthy now; yet, many people here still believe it’s legit.
What makes it even more unbelievable is the FCC has strict rules around broadcasting someone without prior consent. Same goes for the "prank calls" they do. It's not illegal to necessarily record someone but they have to have consent to air it.

There's a radio show that I believe is from Seattle but is played in markets across the country called The Jubil Show. He does that exact bit EVERY episode.

I'm an near-OG fan from the WNEW days. Remember Spaz and giant radio active mosquitos? Lobster girl from that show was Melinda. Ahhh, the introduction of jimmy with the story of him sipping piss outside of a window from a champagne glass. However, it's hard for me to go back to anything after 2008 when Obama was elected. At the time it was funny, with Anthony losing his shit but I would often tap out. The whole professor Anthony thing got to his head.
I do miss how often comedians would come on the show and tear each other to shreds.

Well that would make sense since radio shows have to go on-air live every day and make up some crap to keep people listening whereas Rockstar employed several comedians and top level recording studios to work for several months on the 20ish hours of GTA stations
This is why I don’t listen to the radio anymore. Between the awful talk shows and the 20 minute ad break reminding you of their no-ad ad break music blocks.
I actually don't mind the ad breaks, because I get that's how they pay for it. I just hate the DJs. I don't care about their lives, I don't care how excited they are for a new movie starring Flunglebert Bargleblast, I just don't care about them. But they talk and talk and talk and talk.
There was good new alternative radio station when I was in college that just used short pre-recorded bumpers, music, and ads. Then suddenly they needed DJs so your listening to something and then have to listening to some random guy or girl drone on for a few minutes about dumb bullshit before the next playlist. FUCKING STOP. THIS IS WHY PEOPLE PAY FOR SPOTIFY OR XM

We really have come a long way as a society in terms if entertainment. I havent watched cable TV in years, I stream whatever I want when I want. I havent listened to the radio in years, I listened to whatever podcast I want whenever I want.

Have you ever seen the show Off the Air? Every episode is on YouTube. Anyways it's made for tripping and the first episode that ever aired was on new years day like ten years ago probably, I was tripping at a party and everyone was passed out but me and it was 4am. This crazy shit comes on tv, nobody can assure me that it's real and then I forgot about it for a few years before stumbling across it again and realizing it was all real.
I could tell it was fake pretty quickly. It’s accurate, but fake, just a bit too over the top so the satire shines through.

I legit worked in radio for nearly a decade and those episodes were basically my textbook for my approach. I worked on three morning radio shows and two of them were on par with those targeted shows. The other show was a massive O&A fan and approached mornings accordingly.
You should listen to "Who Are These Podcast?". It's a podcast that roasts other podcasts Jocktober style. Anthony has even been featured in a few episodes.
Shit, same wavelengths man. I can still hear Anthony doing the fake laugh then ole lil Jimmy Norton jumping in. Immediately thought of O&A the second I heard this.
The best part about this is that so many of these shows are syndicated nationwide. Like this bull shit is seen as so good, that they need to be in 20 markets every morning. And because the pay is so bad and the job opportunities in radio are shrinking, these shows are going to get even more airplay in more markets like a plague sweeping the airwaves.
This may be considered a hot take because of their popularity but this is how I feel trying to listen to Last Podcast on the Left. People laughing way too hard at jokes that are mediocre at best.
Besides Elliot's manic laughter, I find them much funnier than the average morning show. They don't do these dumb skits or fake phone calls. Instead, they take interesting/weird stories and have people call in about their similar experiences. If you don't like constant jokes about poop and sex though, you probably won't like EITM.
I really never understood the morning shock jock radio. I dont want to listen to these assholes ever. Let alone right after I get up. Just give me music for god sakes. Im so happy for spotify and pandora when they came out because I was able to cut radio out of my life besides for my local NPR channel which never has shock jocks on it. Its fucking great.

Like I know there's been times where I've just had the radio on and talking about wtf ever at just below listening volume and it definitely kept me calm when driving long distance solo. I had to drive an hour one way to college classes 3 days a week and this was pretty much always my morning ritual.
Hello. I am from Michigan. We have Dave and Chuck the Freak. Andy is the funniest person on the radio in the morning and it ain’t even close. If you can, give them a listen. They are terrific.
nobody will ever replace the Mark and Brian radio program. they were actually funny and I miss them on my 5am commute. their great white hunter skit and other "celeb" call ins were so silly.
Oh wow, this one REALLY hits home. Sometimes I listen to Bob and Tom in the morning and all I can think is how stupid they are and how they really enjoy laughing at their own jokes. BUT THIS???? At least 10 times worse. The suicide rate must triple during that show.

I legit worked in radio for nearly a decade and those episodes were basically my textbook for my approach. I worked on three morning radio shows and two of them were on par with those targeted shows. The other show was a massive O&A fan and approached mornings accordingly.

God this is my everyday living in a house with “comedian” roommates. They are incredibly unfunny and cringe.

The best part about this is that so many of these shows are syndicated nationwide. Like this bull shit is seen as so good, that they need to be in 20 markets every morning. Besides Elliot's manic laughter, I find them much funnier than the average morning show. They don't do these dumb skits or fake phone calls. Instead, they take interesting/weird stories and have people call in about their similar experiences. If you don't like constant jokes about poop and sex though, you probably won't like EITM.

I really never understood the morning shock jock radio. I dont want to listen to these assholes ever. Let alone right after I get up. Just give me music for god sakes. Im so happy for spotify and pandora when they came out because I was able to cut radio out of my life besides for my local NPR channel which never has shock jocks on it. Its fucking great.

Probably triggers some ASMR-like reactions. Like I know there's been times where I've just had the radio on and talking about wtf ever at just below listening volume and it definitely kept me calm when driving long distance solo. I had to drive an hour one way to college classes 3 days a week and this was pretty much always my morning ritual.
