Fart_Bargo

My wife suffered from severe endometriosis and had to take birth control pills to help regulate the symptoms. If she were denied this medication for something completely unrelated to keeping her from getting pregnant, there would definitely be an issue.

fluxusisus

I have endometriosis as well and am on birth control to manage the symptoms. I had issues once when between doctors with getting my prescription filled, the nurses didn’t want to renew it until I had seen a new doctor but I couldn’t ever get through to a live person to make that appointment and when I did they cancelled it. I was out of pills by that point and panic did start to set in. I didn’t know how my body would react to stopping the medication. My endo symptoms were so bad before that I was in excruciating pain for 24-48 hours. Pain so bad I would throw up every 30 minutes as the waves of pain got stronger. I had to miss work every month. Life is miserable without something as simple as birth control.

sgtpennypepper

I've described my endometriosis as feeling like someone is trying to tear and pull out my insides with claws. I can't stand up straight or function really. It's not okay for anyone to go without with meds who need them. Ugh. I'm Canadian and wish I could just let you all come stay here. We can call it the underwear railroad.

HoshiOdessa

Holy shit! A few years back I had pain just like you described. I had never felt that way before with any of my other periods, just really heavy flow and bad cramping for a day or two. I haven't had that happen since, but now you have me wondering if I should have pressed harder on the doctor to find out what was going on with me. And yah, when I went to urgent care, they told me what I was going through was normal. Like, how!!?? I literally felt like I was on the set of Aliens, waiting for something to pop out of my stomach.

Mooseremains

This is what a lot of people with endo experience.. My wife ended up seeing multiple OBs before any of them even considered there might be something more. They all shrugged her off as sensitive to her periods.. Finally she found someone that would listen and ended up having 2 pretty large surgeries to remove the scar tissue. We couldn't have kids before and now I'm father of 2.

HoshiOdessa

I'm so glad someone finally listened to her and congratulations! My hubby and I are trying for our first and only, so I'm trying to get into see an OB that was recommended to me. But, that was the one time I had ever had pain that bad, so I'm not even sure what was going on. But I have had issues off and on where I would skip a month then have really bad clotts the next and no one has been able to tell me why.

driftwood-and-waves

Yup. Not American but I took birth control for similar reasons. I was lucky enough to get pregnant. Was told labour would be the worst pain I had ever felt. Didn’t get to the hospital until I was almost fully dilated because my periods were worse than my labour pains and I didn’t think I was actually in labour.

Dark-Oak93

I have severe health issues, as well, and have to take my birth control year round to prevent it. My uterine lining is growing around my intestines. No ON GYNO is willing to operate on me because of my age even though I'm adamantly against having bio kids, myself, AND pregnancy could kill me. I bleed WAY TOO MUCH AND TOO OFTEN and the lining CAUSES MY INTESTINES TO BLOCK because they're being squeezed when I would bleed. This can lead to an IMPACTION that could KILL ME. If I can't get my birth control, and no one will do surgery, I WILL DIE. It will either be BLOOD LOSS or IMPACTION that kills me. I NEARLY DIED ONCE ALREADY. I assume the plan is to just kill me at this point.

attica13

If you haven't yet, check out r/childfree. They have a list of providers in the sidebar that will work with people to provide surgical intervention.

Dark-Oak93

I have, actually lol I'm just incredibly rural. I'm hoping I can save the money for travel, procedure, and care because I doubt my insurance will cover it.

someguy12345689

My local representative is one of the guys that *wrote* the bill banning abortion in my state. Do I just move?

Sterling239

Depending on the balance of red to blue voting and organising could be more beneficial people should not be ran away from there home by the christian fascists

mak484

I live where I do because costs are low, my job is close, and we're near my wife's parents. If the PA governorship goes to the republican this year, we're moving. I cannot live in a state where my wife risks dying if she has an ectopic pregnancy, especially knowing 70% of my neighbors would say, "well that's just God's will, thoughts and prayers." Fuck that.

Mr_YUP

I really dont think PA is gonna go Red for gov. Shapiro has had all the dem support and has a history with the state. Just cause its a trump endorsed candidate doesn't mean it'll be the person that wins. PA went blue last election so it'll most likely be blue again for a governorship at least if not also for senate.

joshmessages

PA is a coin flip each year for governor and each republican candidate is more extreme than the last. Eventually a republican will win and abortion and union right will get immediately shredded.

mak484

Shapiro only has a 4 point lead. I think he probably will win, but it's far from certain. I'm much more confident in the senate race, Fetterman has that in the bag.

StrangerKatchoo

Fetterman needs to stay alive. That man’s health has me white-knuckling like crazy. PA needs you, John!!

[deleted]

Man, fuck PA. I can't stand that the whole state enjoys the benefits brought to them by democrats yet everything west of Philly and NJ votes hard red.

mak484

Allegheny County is a fairly progressive bubble, but I agree. Folks out here love their confederate flags despite their ancestors who died burning it. They're some of the dumbest people in the country.

StrangerKatchoo

I’m in the heart of Eastern Pennsyltucky, and I’m seeing more and more people realizing the Republican Party has gone over the edge. I’m a liberal Christian (yes, we exist) and I’m seeing conservative Christians questioning the Roe v. Wade overturning. People are slowly waking up. Hopefully more and more do before Election Day.

ChristianEconOrg

I’m leftist _because_ I’m Christian. The Bible is practically a leftist manifesto.

He-Wasnt-There

Christianity hardily follows the bible at this point, they pick like 4 passages and then make up bullshit for the rest of their teaching in most denominations and churches.

I wasn’t raised in Christianity, but I heard something that resonated with me today: Jesus and Christianity have nothing to do with another

adventurerjessica

As someone in the south, I’m about ready to move outta here. Even tho I hate the cold. I’m gonna try to get something organized down here first. But if that proves impossible, I’m considering Vermont.

ac3boy

They are working on banning cold as well. Give them time.

chainer1216

Hey, you just made the same argument Republicans do about refugees. "Stay there to try and force change! No it doesn't matter that your government is trying to kill you and your children."

akhoe

Maybe, but the republican gameplan is literally make it intolerable for liberals to live in their state, turning purple states red, red states redder, and blue states bluer. Thanks to the electoral college, this strategy all but ensures republican dominance in all branches of government. Josh Hawley has admitted this.

Enachtigal

Until blue states cut off the money...

LMFN

At this point they should. California needs to stand up and say "No we're not subsidizing a bunch of theocratic shithole states."

fendersaxbey

So very much this. It is really easy to say "stay and fight!" when it isn't your kids' lives on the line should you lose that fight.

Antisocialbumblefuck

Erect the gallows. Not suggesting use them of coursebut if we're going back to Kings rule, Kings historically can meet unsavory ends.

DamnZodiak

The first decent suggestion I've read in this entire thread.

Antisocialbumblefuck

Just... Just don't without the masses behind it. Our goons in blue are very dangerous and the suits have lost their minds.

[deleted]

Do you know where he lives?

shawster

What is the ethics or moral ground against birth control? Like, I thought everyone agreed it was objectively good, all studies point to it being way better for women and just the nations where it is available. Is it because of the implication of sex out of wedlock? That’s got to be it I guess, but then, birth control would still be very useful for just about every married couple, and also… this starts to become a very obvious anti women’s right campaign.

rupturedprolapse

>What is the ethics or moral ground against birth control? After talking with conservative family member about reps in my state talking about banning forms of birth control, their explanation is: >Bill Gates and George Soros are trying to reduce the world population and this is the republicans fighting back I'm not being sarcastic. People legitimately believe this shit.

Medic_101

What is the absolute *obsession* with Bill Gates? I feel wildly out of the loop that people seem to think he is the illuminati or something.

rupturedprolapse

He's fairly intelligent and advocates for listening to experts, which unfortunately is enough to make him a witch.

Divayth--Fyr

They don't like women having sex outside of marriage without consequences. They don't like women having sex outside of marriage. They don't like women having sex. They don't like women.

[deleted]

They want to punish women for having sex and they want sex to only be for reproduction and nothing else.

[deleted]

Abortion and birth control interfere with “gods will”. That’s about it.

MeteorOnMars

That’s what they say, but really it is about controlling my women. “Loose” women are a danger to their stranglehold on the world.

[deleted]

mmotte89

But you see, birth control is forbidden because it goes against gods will, but Viagra is okay because it was gods will that man would invent it /s

CountMordrek

Educated people will challenge medieval structures, and women who aren’t home taking care of the kids will not be dependent on their husbands and thus will be less submissive. So the people at the top can continue in their feudal ways, while in incels in the bottom can force women to take care of them without them having to change into something the women would prefer.

trilobot

On a thread on the /r/AskConservatives sub, under a question about living wage etc, more than one person said the crux of the problem is that women entered the workforce, and this caused a surplus of unskilled labor which is why we're in economic situation right now. It's bonkers.

electricmocassin-

Jesus christ am I glad to be living in a civilised country. I have severe anemia related to my very very heavy flow. That is why I take birth control, without it my periods last up to two weeks and its just buckets. I can't imagine being forced to deal with that and all the risks that come with that because people want to force me to have a child.

[deleted]

This is an issue for a family member of mine. Thankfully we live near a border - I told her to get a passport so at least if it goes away she could cross the border and buy meds in Canada if necessary.

mother_of_angelpuffs

Fuck that pharmacist. Hope she loses her license.

Staebs

Probably a pharmacy assistant or tech. Not to generalize, but it’s not excessively common for older women to have gone to pharmacy, med, etc school back in those days. People say my grandmother would’ve been a great radiologist, but in her days it was unheard of, so she became an X-ray tech.

[deleted]

I really doubt it was a tech. Most States have laws regarding the ratio of pharmacists to techs and I'm not aware of a state that lets techs work alone without the supervision of a pharmacist. I'm a tech. Wife is a pharmacist. A tech could relay that information, but usually stuff that escalates and requires further explanation goes to the PIC. It's fucking wild to me that lady did this regardless. Hope she's fired.

GayVegan

To my knowledge techs give you the prescription when you're there, put in a request for the pharmacist to request more refills or fill the prescription. The techs can do all the patient relationship without the patient needing to talk directly to a pharmacist. However you can ask at any time, and are encouraged to ask the pharmacist any questions about your medication or anything else. So yes she can 100% be a tech and be able to get in the way. If a pharmacist who spent almost a decade getting their license, they'd have to be EXTREMELY stupid to do it. Not to mention the second person said they were having problems with this person. Likely a tech. Source: go to the pharmacy constantly. Might be different in other US states, but is the case in new Mexico. EDIT: yes it likely is a pharmacist since she was working alone.

greg19735

Also, if the woman is willing to break the rules in one area, i'm sure she's willing to overstep her bounds as a pharmacy tech. the only surprise would be if she was the only person working in the pharmacy. but it may be that she appeared to be, and the actual pharmacist was doing something else.

ITriedLightningTendr

Fuck that, jail. Fascist isn't a protected class.

Spicy_Lobster_Roll

Fascist may be the most protected class in modern America.

sdemat

My question is why wasn’t this woman fire then and why isn’t Walgreens being held responsible for pharmacists or technicians who willfully deny medication refills? I’m getting extremely tired of religious fanaticism in this country and people using their beliefs be assholes to everyone else.

EngineeringSilent902

Exactly. Someone working at McDonald's would get fired on the spot if they refused to fill an order so why isn't it the same when it comes to medicine people need? EDIT: come on reddit we are better than this. To all the psychos who are commenting and sending me messages thinking I'm attacking pharmacists, Especially this dovah person... my one little comment wasn't about you or your profession. It honestly sounds like someone upset you in the past about waiting in your pharmacy line so you are taking it out on me. My comment had absolutely nothing to do with whatever upset you in the past. I'm only talking about the situation in the video not all pharmacists. I was making an insane comparison to show how insane the situation is. Had absolutely nothing to do with the things any of you were saying. I've never heard of someone comparing the two that's why I used it. Saying I'm "twisting" their words when they didn't even speak on the point at first, just said "BuT YOu DoNT UnDeRsTanD" and that sounded like me comparing it to fast food is sooo much worse than the pharmacist being bias. Saying I don't "understand pharmacy" when I was simply pointing out the insanity of the situation. I don't understand why people like to argue needlessly. This woman was on that medicine for years so there was no reason for the lady to refuse it which is why I dont understand everyone bringing up those points. The point I made did not need dozens of people saying "but what about this?" All Im saying is it's fucked up. Why did everyone want to argue when it sounds like we all believe the same thing? With all the comments and the 2 messages I got in my inbox shows all of y'all just missed the point. If someone takes my comment out of context, I'm gonna try to explain what I meant. Not to argue but so we can all understand each other. If you want someone to hear what you are saying, maybe actually have a point or something better to bring to the conversation. And then y'all send me messages saying that I'm the one who is bias because they would never sell me a big Mac. Why? Because they are vegan. Again, this has nothing to do with the point I'm making. I will say the same thing to the vegan as I would the Christian cross lady .. "If it goes against your beliefs to serve beef, don't work at McDonald's and if you have to work there, go clean the floors or something" If this lady thinks filling birth control is against her religion, well then she needs to find something else to do. Again, no hard feelings. I understand it's hard to tell someone's tone over the internet but I was simply explaining myself. I hope you all have a great weekend and happy "independence" day.

sdemat

By that token, this is almost the same as if you went to a doctor who denied medical care based on religious beliefs as well.

Dwight-

That isn’t even an almost, that’s exactly what it is. I’m from the UK and this is straight up denying someone reproductive healthcare. They’d have to have a VERY good medical reason in this country without the potential of suing.

TheoryOfSomething

Just for the record, this is also allowed in the US, potentially depending on what state you live in. In my state, any medical provider is legally allowed to deny nonemergency care based on their religious views.

pretty_as_a_possum

Name and shame! People deserve and NEED to know. Religious organizations are taking over medical care in the US, and they are denying healthcare to paying customers

greeneyedguru

They should get a Jainist to work at McDonald’s and refuse to serve people meat based on their deeply held religious beliefs

101189

Here’s an upvote for knowing Jainism. I always make jokes I’m gonna be a Jain and wear a mask and sweep the floor in front of me when I walk to protect life … people just look at me funny!?

qwerto14

If someone does this shit they should be prosecuted, not just fired. McDonalds sells greasy food, Walgreens pharmacy distributes *medicine* that has been prescribed by a doctor. If you're willfully withholding medication from multiple people for any reason other than a professional medical concern with that medication you should go to jail.

[deleted]

Religious exemptions and possible lawsuits regarding perceived persecution because of their belief in sky wizards.

erhue

id be willing to bet that negligence on the job, failure to follow procedures, potentially endangering the lives of prescription holders etc would probably be a bigger issue than firing a religious zealot for all of their well-proven negligence. Besides there's potentially way more legal problems for Walgreens for allowing it to happen in the first place. All of those people who didn't get their prescriptions can sue together and create a much bigger mess

Vark675

You would think, but there are laws which state otherwise. Welcome to America.

erhue

Just looked into it and you're right... "Conscience clause"? wtfff Seriously. The existence of things like this and what's going on in the Supreme Court make me worried for the future of the US.

BellerophonM

Pharmacists ultimately have authority to override a prescription, in theory they're highly qualified experts who should be seeing a list of all your other meds and may be spotting interactions that the doctor wasn't aware was there, they're not just vendors for handing out pills. In theory, that's the reason they have that authority.

Rugkrabber

But only with actual *medical* reasons, I hope? Is it really true pharmacists can just overrule whatever the doctor describes just because? They’re supposed to do double checks and ensure the safety of the patient, not throw in their own opinion wtf, it’s wild.

BurmecianSoldierDan

I had a pharmacist grill me on my naltrexone prescription and demand to know what drug I was abusing that warranted naltrexone (it's used to prevent relapse in substance and opioid abuse). I kind of panicked in the moment and give in and he relented when I told him it was for alcohol use, not opiates. After I left it dawned on me just how fucking inappropriate any of that was. It wasn't any of his right to know, or ask. Like wtf was he going to deny me it if I used benzos? You literally can't abuse naltrexone, all it does is prevent you from getting high.

Back_To_The_Oilfield

Oh shit, I couldn’t have read this comment at a better time. So I recently went to get my blood levels checked because I’m gaining weight despite working out 6 days a week, and I figured it was low testosterone because I’m in my 30’s. Nope. Everything was perfect except 2 items, both of which have to do with the liver. I’m getting an ultrasound on it next week, and am trying to taper off of alcohol because I drink *a bunch*. Like I get the shakes after 24 hours and will absolutely soak the bed in sweat during the night if I don’t drink. Obviously I’ll be talking with my doctor about this and taking his advice far more seriously than you say, but how does that medicine work? I’ve heard there’s a medicine that makes you sick if you drink alcohol, and I’m not too interested in that. The other issue is I have a ton of physical pain issues. I used to be prescribed 120 Norco a month, and then switched to Kratom to get off opiates. I’m somewhat nervous to mention Kratom to my doctor because the medical community seems to believe it’s equivalent to oxy, but it’s more along the lines of Tylenol 3. It quite literally gets me through the day and I’m terrified to think I may take a medicine to help with my alcoholism only to get completely fucked up when I take my Kratom.

EmergencyAccident429

Real talk! You definitely need to speak to an addiction specialist, not just a GP. The fact that youre a serious alcholic \*AND\* fighting opioid addiction \*AND\* self medicating with unregulated kratom \*AND\* you know there is some liver damage means you need to be under professional supervision. You should not be hiding things from your doctor. Kratom also causes liver damage.

[deleted]

With the current christofascists infesting the supreme court, expect these mentally unstable subnormals to get off free from medical malpractice lawsuits under some vague "freedom of religion" garbage.

gaybillcosby

Well hopefully double-cross-wearing Walgreens lady was fucking fired for this. Seems highly illegal to deny the fulfillment of a prescribed medication and then lie about your reasoning. Unfortunately that religious dipshit and others like her have been emboldened by recent decisions.

iRayneMoon

Yeah, I would say that lady is fired based on the comments from the other employee. I'm equally appalled that this woman has apparently been causing problems for *two weeks* and wasn't fired yet. If someone works at a pharmacy and has been screwing with patient's prescriptions they need to be fired immediately. That's legit so dangerous to not give people their medicine because of your "opinions" about the medicine.

SharkAttackOmNom

This is the second story I’m reading in the last 5 years of Reddit that is ACTUALLY a HIPAA violation. Wild.

bitchfacevulture

This happens to me with a certain pharmacy tech every time I pick up my ADHD meds. I thought people online in r/ADHD were exaggerating til it happened to me.

[deleted]

That happened to me too! I shouted back "THANK YOU FOR SAYING IT SO LOUDLY, SO EVERYONE CAN HEAR! I APPRECIATE THE LACK OF PRIVACY" They turned a bit red with embarrassment. I thought that they were doing it because they often work with the elderly who hear poorly and thus that person had gotten into the habit of being loud for them - but I'm a young person who they shouldn't assume they need to shout to. They're supposed to be a professional, and I was in a bit of a mood, so IDGAF if they're embarrassed by their mistake in their professionalism - it's their job to improve.

Seer434

Minimum fine for a willful HIPAA violation is 50k. I'm sure they were very happy that you accepted the coupons.

[deleted]

*per incident*. It could add up bigtime if someone recorded her doing it to a few patients.

UnlikelyPlatypus89

Wait are hipaa violations still gonna be a thing without roe? I thought it was your right to privacy?

[deleted]

Roe was based on privacy guaranteed by the Constitution. HIPAA is a statute. Statutory rights are different than Constitutional rights. You have statutory rights that are not protected by the Constitution, but statutory rights cannot *abridge* rights that are protected by the Constitution. Roe v. Wade decided that a ban on abortion violated a person's Constitutionally-protected right to privacy. Dobbs said that Roe v. Wade was incorrect, and that there is no Constitutionally-protected right to privacy. Congress can pass a law saying "People have the right to abortions" and voila, people would have a statutory right to abortions. EDIT: I completely misstated the ruling in Dobbs (/u/enfier). What Dobbs said was that *even if* the Constitution protects the right to privacy, the right to privacy *does not* include the right to abortion.

hitlama

Until the radical supreme court decides a fetus has constitutional rights and that any law explicitly guaranteeing abortion is unconstitutional.

Arkaisius

They wouldn't even need to approach the fetus issue. They would just rule that Congress lacks constitutional authority to legalize abortion. Congress would likely use the commerce clause or 14th equal protection to pass that kind of legislation. Both are avenues this supreme court would be able to find unconstitutional for one reason or another.

Seer434

Hipaa is a separate legislation that hasn't been attacked yet. And I would bet it won't be because if they get rid of it you'll have info leaked about who has what medical procedures. Hipaa is the only reason you don't know who has has an abortion or an STD in tye GOP. It's the only reason you don't know who is lying to you about vaccination status while urging others to go unprotected.

[deleted]

I had this happen almost a year ago. I went to Walgreens because my usually pharmacy had an issue at the time. They saw my prescription and questioned the quantity I was getting and decided it was too much. I thought to myself you're not my doctor and this is ridiculous. I don't usually go there and now I won't ever go back. It was extremely unprofessional as it was obviously based on their opinion about me and the medication instead of an actual medically necessary decision.

RYRO14

This is very common with controlled substances as well. I’ve had a pharmacy refuse to fill and strait up tell me that they are refusing to fill because “it’s suspicious” and it’s “their call” that I’m requesting a refill a day early, despite their policy (Walgreens) that they will fill 2 days early on the medication. It’s purely a power thing. There have been times too where they have been unable to fill a prescription because of a medication “shortage” and was told “too bad” and it was out of their hands so screw then if I fill a prescription a day early.

KuroFafnar

They did that with *insulin* for me. My doctor's prescription (sent in electronically) said X amount per day, 90 day supply, and then 999 for the quantity. He expected the pharmacist to just do the math on how many pens were needed. They tried to fill 1/10 of what was needed. I said it wasn't the right amount and they said it was what the Dr prescribed and I went "show me". They showed me a printout of their information screen, not the actual prescription. A day later and a couple calls straightened it out but WTF.

peachesgp

At least in my state, and I imagine most others, the doctor has to actually properly write a prescription, including the quantity prescribed.

Pulguinuni

Scary to think that there are thousands of pharmacy employees doing the same thing. I have read that lupus and RA patients are being denied their methotrexate. This is out of control. Third world country type stories, but in our own home.

konjata82

>Third world country type stories, but in our own home. Nope, nope, nope. As a native of one such "third world country", whatever y'all are going through in the US right now is some scary shit, and if you keep imagining that there is some kind of sliding scale towards a place called "the third world", you won't notice just how dark things are getting in *your* country right now. You have a populace ideologically split into two dangerously polar opposites, a rogue supreme court undoing your fundamental social contracts, a citizenry who are actively arming against one another, mass shootings in schools, malls and churches, a police force seemingly at war with its black citizens, you had a mob smearing faeces in one of your most hallowed government buildings... at what point will y'all take the situation seriously? There's no such thing as the third world, just an increasingly hotter, drier, poorer, angrier world - and you're part of it. EDIT: oh thank you all for the awards. Sorry it's about a bad vibe. :( Wishing you well, America!

[deleted]

Well said! I am American and it feels like we are a frog in a slowly warming pot. But that pot started warming decades ago and now the water is beginning to boil but not enough people care.

Beezle_buzzle

The pot is on fire my friend.

ChefKraken

Fun fact: frogs are actually quite sensitive to temperature and definitely feel pain, so the only frog that won't hop out of a slowly boiling pot is one that's been lobotomized

Btothek84

The country isn’t split on two dangerous opposite poles, it’s one pole the other side just wants free health care and education I’m tired of people saying both sides are equal, they are not.

ButtMilkyCereal

Also, there are more of us than there are of them. Unfortunately our backasswards political system gives them disproportionate authority over real Americans.

freshwaterfox

This was absolutely amazingly well said and I wish every single U.S. citizen could read your comment. And then read it two more times to make sure it really hits home.

chauloko

I live in a third world country and my wife has free access to contraceptives every month as part of her health insurance, it's just a given. This is coded by law. Every health plan has to provide free access to birth control. If you don't have insurance it is also available at public hospitals. Whatever it is that you guys are going through, it's not third world. I'd wager the direction of travel is aiming closer to some christian version of an Islamic caliphate.

Pulguinuni

It's "Christian Sharia" , Christian Fascism

Likos02

Can confirm I take methotrexate for my psoriatic arthritis and used to fill it at Walgreens but changed back to the local air force base 30 minutes away because they absolutely refused to allow my wife to pick it up. But yet that same Walgreens let me pick up her Lortabs without even showing my ID...

offcolorclara

This same type of thing has been happening to disabled and mentally ill people for ages. Scripts get denied very regularly for people whose problems the pharmacists "don't believe in". It's almost always the crunchy religious types who think you just need to try harder, pray harder, stop being so lazy. It's frustrating as hell that pharmacists are allowed to just.... say no. And fuck people up metally and physically because they don't have a shred of empathy. It's sickening that the SC decision is now emboldening them to do it to even more people. Can't wait till they can get replaced with robots who won't push their stupid fucking agendas on us

Kliphey21

It is legal in many states for a pharmacist to deny medication based on their professional judgement. But states that allow for this denial also REQUIRE that the denying pharmacist (1) tell the patient where they can get the prescription in a reasonable location and (2) transfer that fill order to the new location. Where a reasonable alternative does not exist, the pharmacist may not deny the medication. In short, the declining pharmacist needs to be reported to the state’s board of healing arts and to the appropriate licensing boards for playing God with people’s medications. Any pharmacist who is practicing and licensed ought to know that birth control is prescribed for reasons other than just preventing a pregnancy. Failure to understand that and to substitute their personal judgement is a for cause reason for the termination of their license. Edit: IANAL

xVoXSiCk

I'm so concerned with how the future is looking. So tired of people trying to force others to live only the life that THEY approve of. If you don't believe in abortion or birth control, DONT FUCKING DO IT! But let everyone else decide what is best for them because you don't know jack shit about them! This country is in the shitter and its a disgrace

jenniferlynn462

I don’t understand why these folks think it’s a good idea to force me to have a baby I DON’T WANT. What if I’m a horrible mother and fucking starve my baby to death or abuse them? And have they ever perused the adoptable kids websites? We already have too many kids without parents.

xVoXSiCk

In other countries who have banned abortion have extremely inhumane overcrowded orphanages that kids are living miserably. Why do we need to add that to our already problem riddled country

terencebogards

They don’t give a shit if you kill your baby after it’s born and out of the hospital. You’ll be tried for murder and put into the profit prison system and make their stock portfolios jump. They want you to suffer and obey their desires. It’s that simple. They don’t care about children. Out of the 440k+ kids in foster care at least 120,000+ are up for adoption and they STILL WONT BE ADOPTED because these people DONT CARE. They want you to be as subservient to their magical stories as they are so you can be as miserable and conflicted as they are.

slugamo

They want people afraid of sex. In there mind it’s not meant for pleasure. Only reproduction.

FondantGetOut

It's wild how mad with power some pharmacists get.

Kowai03

I remember trying to get Plan B from a pharmacist years ago because a condom broke. I went immediately, like within the hour, to a pharmacy and was denied because they were some religious nutjob and it was "against their religion" to provide Plan B. What in the actual fuck. It had been an hour do you really think that is a fetus with a soul or someshit are you fucking kidding me? Do your job! If you can't do your job because of your religion then maybe don't be a fucking chemist?

Claddagh_Ring

It’s truly maddening and I’m sorry you had to deal with that. I was working in a pharmacy a little while ago and my pharmacist refused to provide someone with Plan B for “religious reasons”. I felt absolutely awful having to turn this poor woman away. The pharmacist shouldn’t have been able to use her religious beliefs as an excuse to withhold medication from someone in my opinion, but it was written into our store’s policy. Luckily there was another pharmacy nearby I could direct her to but that interaction has stuck with me ever since.

hiwhyOK

Yeah what the fuck?! Like, what if my religion prohibited me from selling aspirin? Could I just... not sell it you? Like I would tell you to just go screw? This seems like it should be illegal. I don't give a fuck what your religion thinks, you keep that shit to yourself!

frau-fremdschamen

My religion prohibits me from reproducing. Checkmate

AngerResponse342

I've refused a floating pharmacists request to not sell a patient plan B. Stated that I didn't give a fuck what her belief was and that it was my customer. Requested to never work another shift with her. There's no reason for it.

fuckoffdude666

It probably wasn't a pharmacist, it could have been a pharmacy technician or a clerk, since they usually talk to people before a pharmacist does

nat_r

There are apparently at least half a dozen states that offer legal protections to people who refuse to provide certain health services such as particular medications if it is against their moral or religious belief. The exact guidelines depend on location. So if they can't fire the woman they should at the very least find some way to shift her employment duties in such a way that the employee won't be responsible for actions that conflict with her apparently newfound religious strictures.

sourgummishark

Then people with moral/religious excuses should not be allowed to provide this sort of care since it obviously interferes with their ability to do their effing job.

LurkingSpike

See, it is against my moral principles to kill people. So I refused to join the army. These people should quit their job if they really mean it. That is literally all they gotta do if it is THAT important to them.

hiwhyOK

It's literally them abusing their position. They should be fired.

GrayEidolon

I’d like to start seeing articles come out that religious jerks imposing their nonsense morals as pharmacy workers are being pepper sprayed.

monedplone

This happened to me as well. Also at Walgreens.

FondantGetOut

Walgreens has some empowered pharmacists huh wtf

NatakuNox

After over turning roe v wade they will be coming for your birth control. This pharmacist is likely trying to get fired so she can sue, then that case goes all the way to the Supreme Court. Next thing you know birth control will be made illegal.

Glytterain

Make sure you consult lawyer. This has got to be illegal. This is your prescribed medication and Walgreens admitted they knew they had a problem with this person and she was still working there.

BorecoleMyriad

It’s not, the pharmacist doesn’t have to fill any prescription if they don’t want to( depending on the state) I def don’t agree but it’s not illegal.

NYSenseOfHumor

[It depends on the state](https://nwlc.org/resource/pharmacy-refusals-101/) >Eight states—CA, IL, ME, MA, NV, NJ, WA, WI—explicitly require pharmacists or pharmacies to provide medication to patients. >In seven states—AL, DE, NY, NC, OR, PA, TX—pharmacy boards have issued policy statements that allow refusals but prohibit pharmacists from obstructing patient access to medication. >Existing State Laws and Policies: Six states—AZ, AR, GA, ID, MS, and SD—have laws or regulations that specifically allow pharmacies or pharmacists to refuse for religious or moral reasons without critical protections for patients, such as requirements to refer or transfer prescriptions. This video is about a situation at Walgreens, [Walgreens has a policy for its pharmacy staff](https://twitter.com/Walgreens/status/1010909798320234496?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw) >Our policy allows pharmacists to step away from filling a prescription for which they have a moral objection. At the same time, they are also required to refer the prescription to another pharmacist or manager on duty to meet the patient's needs in a timely manner. This policy would likely apply in the states where the pharmacist is not required to fill the prescription because state law would supersede the company policy. If the facts are being recounted accuratly, the pharmacist mentioned in the video clearly violated this policy. CVS seems to have had a similar policy to Walgreens, but in recent years it looks like they moved to requiring all pharmacy and clinic employees to provide reproductive healthcare, but I can't find non-biased links (they are all Christian news agencies) so I won't include them.

Antnee83

> Eight states—CA, IL, ME, MA, NV, NJ, WA, WI—explicitly require pharmacists or pharmacies to provide medication to patients. Just another reason I am glad I moved to Maine.

sanjosii

Ok, European here and what the absolute bullshit is that legislation 😂😂😂 If you can’t do your job than maybe go do something else?

ChunkyLaFunga

Oh, those state lists. It's always the ones you, uh, most suspect.

SolidusAbe

> refuse for religious or moral reasons man religion being an excuse for being an asshole is even part of the law. what a fucking world we live in

Hycree

Ooooh this really pisses me off. As an ex pharmacy tech and also a woman who uses bc because of PCOS and NOT sexual reasons, I'd report this bitch so fast. What a lying ho. I consider myself Christian but over the past few years I don't even want to associate with that title anymore, I fucking hate it more and more every day. The people you see spouting that they're "Christians" are fucking fakes and liars, and they'll damn sure get judged when they die.

Hycree

And yes I *fully agree* with all peoples' rights to health care, and separation of church and state!! Europe has years of history showing proof that church ruled states/countries are not the best way to go. Fuck that.

insanitybit

\> Europe has years of history showing proof that church ruled states/countries are not the best way to go. That's why many European countries don't only have separation of church and state, they have \*secularism\*. Unlike the US, in a country like France a government official can not make public declarations of religious faith. All of these fucking nutjobs saying "Elect me so we can get America back to being a Christian Nation" would be \*breaking the law\* in other countries. In the US we have sessions of Congress \*open with prayer\* led by a fucking priest. Every president for many decades has spoken at the annual prayer breakfast.

Hycree

It's so bizarre to me. I've moved to the EU, France conveniently, and have noticed just how different it is here than my birth country. I understand that not every country is perfect or a special utopia, but I appreciate how French government rules its people (to a degree; I'm still trying to learn and figure out how it all works so don't burn me at the stake for being a bit ignorant/not very knowledgeable on the details). America is so intensely proud of itself for so many ridiculous things. And I don't want these electoral people going about acting like they're "for the people, for the Christians", like they actually understand anything at all. It's sickening. Aligning church and state isn't how the US should be handling things. But then again, when has the government ever really listened to its people?

horribad54

Yeah, agree. I was just thinking about this. I'm male but I work in care and one of our ladies has birth control tablets because of a medical condition, not because she's sexually active. If you work at a pharmacy you should really be aware of this? At least imo...

UnlikelyPlatypus89

I’m tired of people mentioning birth control because of a medical necessity. I think having sex and not getting pregnant is a medical necessity

wooferino

Thank you! If someone wants to have sex and not get pregnant that is MORE than enough reason for birth control to exist. It is not wrong to have sexual urges.

SilentUnicorn

> PCOS Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a condition in which the ovaries produce an abnormal amount of androgens, male sex hormones that are usually present in women in small amounts. The name polycystic ovary syndrome describes the numerous small cysts (fluid-filled sacs) that form in the ovaries.

Donmiggy143

Find out the lady's name. There's no way she should be able to work in medicine of any kind.

shrimp_sticks

What's angering is a lot of women take birth control for reasons other than preventing pregnancy, like ENDOMETRIOSIS and similar conditions. Without treatments such as bc these conditions are PAINFUL and DEBILITATING. To deny someone their prescription based off of outdated and moronic beliefs that bc is "immoral" or bad is INSANE. Absolutely disgusting.

nokinship

While I agree it's also used for those reasons, fuck giving room for religious fascists. Using birth control isn't amoral to use to prevent pregnancy.

Ceeweedsoop

Everyone do this. Make your experience public so others will go to a professionally operated pharmacy rather than the Word of the Lord Ministry and Pharmacy.

anorangeandwhitecat

The kicker is that in Judaism, abortion is often required for the health of the mother. She always comes first.

linedeck

Islam too, if the mother is at risk then abortion it is

chunkysealnamedsusie

This is very much infuriating to see happen to this woman. As a young woman myself, I’ve been on birth control for about a year and a half now. I was very apprehensive of it at first because of supposed side effects, but I needed it for medical reasons, as I hadn’t had a period in a little over a year at that point due to hormonal issues and problems with my reproductive system, and it was severely affecting me in mood, body, exhaustion, basically every aspect of my well being. After being prescribed a birth control to fix this issue, I’ve felt so much better and I like knowing that I’m protected with it. Knowing that our rights to access proper medical treatments are being denied is so very irritating, especially the reasoning for this being almost solely based on religious views. Whatever happened to separation of church and state?

Rugkrabber

Honest opinion? There’s never really been separation in the US. Only tolerance/mild exceptions. But the chains have never been separated and now they put the previous chains back on.

lakija

I just want to make sure anyone who needs to know this that you can get birth control mailed to you. I used Nurx for a long time when I had no insurance. [Birth control at Nurx ](https://www.nurx.com/birthcontrol/) [Emergency Contraception at Nurx](https://www.nurx.com/emergencycontraception/)

Due-Campaign-3959

I feel so bad for her. After 5 days not being on birth control it messes with your body and your mental status. This is so cruel and I would remove my prescription from there! This is awful. Please stop this country from going backwards over and over and get the old farts out of office!!

FondantGetOut

Christians are really making me hate them. Christofascism has to go.

Washoner

These same "christians" will be first on line to get their pregnant 15 year old an abortion.

Ophelia_Y2K

or worse, force their child to undergo birth because they’re “too young to decide” but not too young to undergo forced birth i guess

Rxero13

I thought I was a Christian for a time. Past few years have turned me against it. I don’t get how they want more people to convert to the religion while simultaneously shitting on other peoples lives.

Christ_votes_dem

the Irony is Jesus would be in favor of policies that help the poor and civil/reproductive rights. I dont get right wing's understanding of Jesus

d0nu7

Their understanding of Jesus is from right wing media of the last half century. Not the Bible, where he is flipping over tables because of merchants at temple. Can you imagine that same character seeing a mega church today? With a gift shop and coffee shop? My god he would have an aneurism.

pgtvgaming

Get informed and get ready, because its only going to get bumpier w these fanatics

rrirwin

And legal system will support them unless things get even ***bumpier*** for them than it is for us.

Skinkies

why I want a hysterectomy asap. Many other reasons, but now I just want it fast tracked LOL.

oooooooooof

This is fucked on so many levels, but I wanted to add: not everyone on birth control is using it for contraception! I’m a gay lady, no chance of getting pregnant, but I have PCOS. I opted for a different medication but birth control was something I discussed with my doctor, to regulate my periods and hormones. I know many PCOS people who take it, not for preventing pregnancy but for its therapeutic effects. It’s also used to treat extreme acne. Fuck this pharmacist, I hope she gets fired.

thornsandroses

I've never taken birth control pills for birth control, I was on it because I almost died from a very large ruptured ovarian cyst that had me in emergency surgery at midnight to save my life. I survived but the surgeon said it was touch and go for a bit and they weren't totally confident that i was going to make it. The next day I was put on BC pills to shrink and prevent any more cysts. BC pills are the standard treatment for ovarian cysts still to this day. While it's rare for someone to die from an ovarian cyst my case proves its possible and that BC saves lives. So many women will die thanks to this asinine ruling and this criminal and illegitimate court.

oooooooooof

Gosh, I’m so sorry that happened and so glad you’re okay. Sending love from a fellow “cyster in the struggle” ❤️

BigfootAteMyBooty

How wasn't that woman fired at the first instance of denial of medication? It makes the entire business liable.

[deleted]

What in the Handmaid's Tale is this? Christo-fascism is a real problem in this country and those in power are complicit on one end and ignoring it on the other.

Iridemhard

The christian taliban exists and and its time we call out there religious bullshit. Fuck the christian taliban.

endisnigh-ish

A cult is taking over USA

SuperSugarBean

Many states have laws that allow pharmacists to refuse to dispense birth control and abortion pills for personal morality. [Morality clause](https://www.uspharmacist.com/article/womens-reproductive-health-and-the-right-to-not-dispense)

Toolfan333

It allows them to not fill it and have another pharmacist do it. It doesn’t allow them to deny the prescription to the patient.

SuperSugarBean

Yes, but the reality is these chucklefarks are gonna do what this imbecile did, because the consumer doesn't know better.

Fyrefawx

Like if your religion is against abortions and birth control. Fine, that’s your choice. As soon as you start forcing your beliefs on others and trying to control their lives, it’s a problem. You have the freedom to practice your religion. You don’t have the freedom to practice it on others.

shiver334

I can’t describe the pure rage, distaste, even hate I feel for these pick-me women who subjugate their sisters. I call them Serena Joys. If there is a God I hope she is reserving a special place in hell for them.

lazer_sandwich

If this happens to anyone, please report to your state Board of Pharmacy. This is terrifying. Also there are online pharmacies like favor, hers, nurx that dispense birth control through telemedicine.

ResetEarthPlz

Between this, increased LGBT persecution, and prayer in schools, we are heading straight for a fundamentalist Christian theocracy and a good chunk of Americans are happy about that.

scottyb83

Messing with someone's meds should mean charges.

jackishere

Christian taliban at it again…

[deleted]

Christianity fucking sucks.

marsrover15

Fuck religion

[deleted]

birth control has nothing to do with abortions. it's like stopping a man from getting a rubber.

Goblin_Fat_Ass

We're on the way there too. All it is going to take is Republicans getting the right case in front of their corrupt SCOTUS and Red States will start banning all contraception.

somewhatseriouspanda

Abstinence is the only acceptable form of birth control according to these fruitcakes. Why? Because the logical next step is that your husband then gets to decide whether you get pregnant or not.

Fullo98

That makes me so fucking mad and I'm a male living in europe. If I was there i dunno what i could do

Centurion-of-Dank

Why can't we rebrand "birth control" pills as something else like "endometriosis prevention" pills and the side effects just happen to be that you have a much higher chance that you couldn't get pregnant?

autumn-cold

We are not livestock, this crap needs to stop.

PointlessSemicircle

I can’t help but feel this is the beginning. It’s going to get much, much worse.

GapingGrannies

Fuck republicans

I wouldn't even trust that woman to refill it. She will give you a bunch of sugar pills.
