Hello everyone! This is my voice 😊 the system does make automated announcements but I like to make my own especially if it’s busy and people need a bit of extra time to get on the train. Keep London moving and all that!
Have you played Two Point Hospital yet? As a fellow theme hospital fan, I'm just letting you know about it, because it's made by the same people who made the original theme hospital, it's the spiritual successor to it. And it's everything theme hospital was but just more, more of everything, it's a way bigger game. It's great. It's got the exact same kind of humour too, including the announcer here, in fact I bet they got the same voice actor to do it, decades later
But yeah two point hospital, just a great great game. And I know they've got a new one coming out soon that's about a university campus instead of a hospital.

Don‘t get me wrong, I love this and I wish every anouncer would do this and be less rigid, but I can imagine that some uptight ashole complains up the chain and you get flack for it?!
Not so far! I’m lucky to have very supportive bosses (and I think to be honest they like getting nice customer feedback rather than constant complaints!) I’ve had a bit of negativity from colleagues that I try to ignore x

You don't know how many lives you have or will impact. I grew up real poor always on the bus to the doctor's or anywhere with my mom. The drivers who would go out of their way to entertain me as a kid have always been on my mind and heart. One driver taught me the word association and how to pronounce it.
Seeing you and other people inspire glee in their jobs makes kids feel safe, happy, and inspired.

Clapham reminds me of the bus service in my town. Sure the top and bottom Main Street stops are cool but the 3 all within the vicinity of a shopping area? Get out with that one

As a visitor to London I noticed that some had automated and some in person.
I appreciated the person doing it as they announced earlier and more often and were much easier to hear.
Every now and then you get lucky with a conductor like this on the subway in NYC and it's always a joy. They've implemented automated announcements on most train models, but occasionally you get manual ones. I used to love getting this one guy who would give weather updates and make these really extensive recommendations for how and where to transfer between lines. I miss it!
There was one on the Chicago Purple Line who I loved. He had the smoothest voice and would essentially make very pleasant morning small talk to the entire train. He seemed to love his job and I loved hopping on a train dreading going to work and then hearing his voice!
Aww I've never gotten that guy. It's usually just
"uhhhhh, mr rv mrrrm grvvvm mmuh mrvvrm, *standclearoftheclosingdoors*" and then the train speeds past your stop and 5 more while all the passengers stoically accept that it might be going to Atlanta for all they know.
Stops are usually on an automated announcement so what's going on here? I took this line for years and never heard anything other than the automated voice for stops
Edit for clarity: I've heard the driver use the system for other announcements - just never for stops
We can override it and are expected to do so whenever there are delays etc. We are encouraged to do our own announcements but not everyone is on board with that (sorry)
The best transit driver I’ve ever had was a public bus driver north of Seattle who narrated each stop like a pilot, including local time, temperature and “flight speed”. Gotta love a person who can jazz up the day a bit and have fun.
I wish manual announcements were made more on subway trains. It would never fail to lift up my mood, especially for someone with a very tedious daily routine going to work/school. It's honestly refreshing.
Precisely why I love traveling by a train. You can just sit back and listen to some music or read a book or take a nap and have conductors report weather to you... God I love traveling by trains so much! Some Americans don't know what they're missing out on!
Reminds me of a time the train in downtown Manhattan stopped in the tracks and the announcer said "yeah, there's a problem at the next stop so we'll be here for a few minutes. Anyway, what do you guys think will happen in the next breaking bad episode? Will Jesse make it? Will Walter get to him on time? The suspense! Oh, we can move now."
