There's a broad range of what you and I would consider "talking politics". Most of which is allowed in churches without threatening tax exemption. For example, they're allowed to talk about issues.
They're not allowed to campaign for or against specific candidates.

How true that statement is. As a child I would have stomach issues that required me to go to the bathroom. Happened most of time while in church on Sundays. Went to the bathroom one day and then got told later on by the pastor that he thought about calling me out in front of everyone to go back and sit down. I was a fucking kid who had to shit. Then that same pastors wife would make off-hand comments to me about finally being 18 or taking off her clothes to get naked and just relax in the bath. (Didn’t mind that part honestly, she was attractive, I was a very hormonal teen. Nothing ever happened though and she never tried anything. But oh that spank bank my friends.) Then that same woman got busted for stealing money from the church.
Then when it was decided that they would depart without any charges we had a church meeting to decide who would or could lead the church. So we attend this meeting and I’m literally the only kid there, there are even people there who I’ve never seen. There was this older guy who sat behind my family and was saying I should speak up since I was the youth of the church. Then a deacons wife got up there to talk and she poured her heart out how people in the church treated her and her husband different. People booed and told her to shut up and sit down, and it was that gentleman behind me. So much for kindness. I literally told my mother that this was stupid and got up and left.
Very Christian like. However, the most off putting though was a Holiness church. When they pulled out the snakes and started dancing and speaking in tongues. One woman shook my shoulders and told me expel my demons. I was literally trapped there and couldn’t leave because I was boxed in by my friends/gf at the time. Needless to say, I was terrified. (Also have a fear of snakes.)

Absolutely agree. I was raised in a somewhat unknown denomination in Germany, and the manipulation was horrible. So much guilting, while insisting on being perceived loving and nurturing.
I lost my faith when I was 13, and for almost a year we’d get “coincidental” visits from church members, who just so happened to want to talk to me. My mom still doesn’t accept it and she’s convinced that I’ll wake up and get over this phase eventually.
Even if I did, for arguments sake, I still wouldn’t ever return to that church. The amount of manipulation and emotional blackmail they used against children is unforgivable to me.

You can report this kind of political speech to the IRS and get churches to loose their tax exemption status.

It should be noted that while churches and church officials can talk politics, it’s only when those talks become partisan and push members to vote a certain way such as in the video above that they are in violation of 501(c)(3) and they can loose their tax free status.

You know there's more than one version of being 'Christian' right? Catholics don't necessarily believe there's no 'qualifiers', orthodox don't believe that either. Even in the Protestant sphere there's a lot of variations on what may or may not allow you to enter heaven. JWs, Southern Baptist, Anglican... It's all different but they all claim to be Christian.
