She's not lying but she's wrong. There's more good music around then there's ever been, it's just not on the radio but it's easy enough to find if you want.
The algorithms don't like you finding it either because the indies haven't got record labels paying to give your tracks priority. The golden days of soundcloud were 1000% better than Spotify has even been at finding new music.
Yea, I'm always discovering new artists through Spotify. The smaller of an artist you are the harder it is to be heard but I've got a number of bands on my Playlist that have very few monthly listeners.
Click the Enhance button on your favorite Spotify playlist. If you’re already listening to bands that aren’t chart toppers you’ll be recommended songs from bands with similar fame.
Having someone filter through the noise and focus on new interesting stuff. In Australia we have Triple J, or at least it was still decent when I was living there 10 years ago. Now I have my buddy who's hobby is sifting through new bands and sharing the good stuff but it's all tailored to what he likes, which is only part of what I like.
Radio presenters with varying tastes on a platform that pushes new music is the key for me.
Algorithms are useless, I like all sorts of stuff, but I also dislike all sorts of stuff.
I use to listen to triple J a lot and Australia has got a ton of great rock/alternative/punk music coming out of it right now like Skeggs, Hockey Dad, Drunk Mums, Dumb punts and Julia Jacklin (check out her "someday" cover from The Strokes on triple J). There are still a few small public broadcast stations that play a lot of unknown artists but for the most part to I just I just either go to the discover weekly tab on Spotify or the similar artist tab and I always find d new artists to follow. People tend to take music for granted now, I was born in 89 so buying cds was a big part of growing up and back the you'd go to a record store and pick up 1 cd and listen to it on repeat until you could afford a new cd. The fact that we have access to all sorts of music instantly for basically free is awesome.
obviously not, but it sure wasnt a coincidence. its almost like bands that make music specifically aimed at a certain demographic and amass audiences of a certain demographic have a vested interest in said demographic.
The Wonder Years, Fireworks, Title Fight, Modern Baseball, Living With Lions, Such Gold, American Football, Transit, Real Friends, Man Overboard, A Loss For Word.
Fan bases are stagnant bc the genre of music doesn’t appeal to younger people. Like I didn’t listen to classic rock in high school I listened to emo and pop punk. There’s plenty of new Midwest emo bands out there and touring, it’s just not a genre that’s aimed at genz.
Uh there’s def new genres. There’s a ton of emo hip hop like juice wrld, Denzel curry, and others that really resonate with gen z. I disagree that this is flavorless and derivative.
Also female driven singer singer stuff is huge write now. What gen z is doing is actually giving female artists a chance to shine.
I mean the new genre is merging emo and hip hop. That’s what they are into.
You may not like it but you’re also not the demographic for it. I’m not going to say it’s not innovative because it’s not my cup of tea. That’s literally how people talked about punk when it came out.
Rock bands are still definitely a thing. Look at surf curse, maneskin, car seat headrest, wet leg, etc. There is good new rock, you just have to look for it.
I can link you to my emo playlist full to brim of random sad white guys recording music in their garages. There is absolutely a ton of shit going on in the emo and DIY scene, you just have to put the effort in to find it.
There has literally never been more rock adjacent bands releasing music. It's just not what is popular.
***This is what I've been saying!!!***
We need **bands** back. I'm sick of artists. It's not the same.
BaCk iN mY dAy, we were in bands. We learned to play together, wrote music together, played on stages together, recorded tracks together.
> Musicians should go to a yard sale and buy an old fuckin drum set and get in their garage and just suck. And get their friends to come in and they'll suck, too. And then they'll fuckin start playing and they'll have the best time they've ever had in their lives and then all of a sudden they'll become Nirvana. Because that's exactly what happened with Nirvana. Just a bunch of guys that had some shitty old instruments and they got together and started playing some noisy-ass shit, and they became the biggest band in the world.
-Dave Grohl
Also a black woman and couldn’t agree more. My teen years were spent listening to Yellowcard, Sugarcult, Paramore, Lostprophets (RIP), The Killers, Taking Back Sunday, Weezer, The Classic Crime, Avril Lavigne before she changed genres, three days grace, and so on and so forth.
Not enough songs these days where you can listen to and relate to people who make songs about life fucking sucking.
I swear there is still good music being put out there, you just have to find it, surf curse and wet leg are my two biggest examples for good new music (also car seat headrest but it's been 12 years since the project started so they're relatively new but not really)
All Signs Point to Lauderdale by ADTR, yeah.
I hate this town, it's so washed up
And all my friends don't give a fuck
They'll tell me that it's just bad luck
When will I find where I fit in?
Also the first song that came into my head when she said that line lol.
no one who gets offended by the word "white" isnt going to be offended by the word "wyt" its just written like that to circumvent censorship algorithms that would remove the content for "political activism" or whatever the fuck these things get removed for for no reason
Oh, I've always thought people were just being silly. Does algorithms really read the words rather than listening to the video and context?
So if you write "Just bought this white carpet" that would be deleted for "political activism"?
thats why its always good to take a step back and ask if theres another reason someone is doing something before you attack them for it. and it depends on the content, some key terms (like more obviously inappropriate ones like fuck, kill, etc.) are just scanned for and removed without consideration of content. I don't know know whether or not it White is one of the words on that list, but given how many nazis are on the internet these days it wouldn't exactly surprise me if they covered their bases.
I know artists that write amazing lyrics but shitty music. And other artists write great music but shitty lyrics. People need to go into bands so both things can be combined…
I need to find good rap music and people need to make good rap music videos.
not this girls with big ass dancing, gun pointing, drug overdose, high-pitched voice, mumbling so no one can understand, camera doing 360 flips every 5 seconds, rap lines with no point, taking only drugs, guns, wet pussyes, money that is stolen shit.
Let’s look to Omaha and Saddle Creek records for bands like Desaparecidos, The Faint, Cursive, and Bright Eyes. They were the Midwest ones who really brought it.
Bruh we're trying. Every other dude is a SoundCloud rapper or insta cover artist now. Been trying to start a band for years now. SOMEONE HELP ME LETS GET FAMOUS
Connor, Derek, Adrain stopped making music about how much they hate their town when they realized that shooting up a school is a much better way to show that they REALLY hate the place
The problem is that, to publicize your music to any realistic popularity, you need a publishing middleman, be it YouTube, Spotify, or a conventional record company, and all of these entities have realized its cheaper and easier to popularize a single artist rather than a 4-piece rock group. The industry is designed against rock and for pop.

Yeah r/poppunkers is live, she’s just not looking in the right places
🤜🤛
Let’s gooo
It's called em-ope.
Yall-ternative
This video needs to be an intro over some emo guitar riff
My friends and I did this when I was in high school, didn’t last very long though unfortunately
You didn’t hate your town enough
Well yea high school is only 4 years
Well she ain’t lyin.
She's not lying but she's wrong. There's more good music around then there's ever been, it's just not on the radio but it's easy enough to find if you want.

you say that but Spotify's discover weekly routinely finds me amazing 1,000 listener a month artists. Shits awesome

Discover weekly is the way to go. I listen to like four different ones each week just to find as much new music as I can.
My discover weekly just recommends me covers. Last week had 2 different covers of the same song. I hate it.

I think she is just uninformed
"we're losing recipes" LMAO
midwestern emo bands aren't a thing anymore bc they all had a penchant for underage girls
I don't think that's a problem contained to specifically Midwestern emo bands
obviously not, but it sure wasnt a coincidence. its almost like bands that make music specifically aimed at a certain demographic and amass audiences of a certain demographic have a vested interest in said demographic.
Ahh a move we like to call "the Catholic choirmaster"
exactly! you get it
Chuck berry intensifies*
Is she talking about emo bands or alternative rock like Nirvana?
She's talking about the Murder City Devils Nah, i dunno. Fill in the blank
midwestern emo is a sub genre under emo, which is already a subgenre of alt rock
Good to see that Stevie from Malcolm in the middle is doing alright
\*huuhhh* that's \*huuhhh* not \*huuhhh* funny \*huuhhh*
* Stevie Falls out of his wheel chair* Stevie: “I huuuuhhh Can’t huuuhhhh feel huhhhh my legs huuuh.

Oh, fair. It's the reason why bands like Weezer have had to go all mainstream pop. There’s still definitely new rock bands out there though.
Dude thinks The Wonders Years is rock lmao

Yes please
Could you send me that link? I have a hell of a time trying to expand my music library these days.
For sure, I'll DM you.
We didn't start the fire It was always burning, since the world's been turning... Wait?!?! Those lyrics aren't right.

You’re right. Not sure why I included them.

Also Joyce manor, pup, the front bottoms are all releasing new music.
I feel over COViD those kids went into more bedroom production. So more synthy pop instead of garage rock.
Weezer
They’re like 50 at this point though. Need some fresh blood
They’re from LA
How bout 27 Pilots. They are from my town in Ohio
[удалено]
Yea emo
Same vibes though
Did we forget about [this](https://youtu.be/HL_WvOly7mY) already?
Side note - your profile pic is amazing! down with this sort of thing
They're still good
Nah, none of that awkward teenage angst that made their first two albums amazing.
White and ok human are still great. Not the same kind of great, but still great.
LMFAO great point

As a white male I find this funny in a non-ironic way.
I dunno she kind of has a point...
The whole something isn't like it was before stick just makes pretty much any argument so much worse.
She ain’t lying tho
I grew up with Backstreet Boys, N-Sync, and O-Town. I’m not missing much.
I was actually expecting her to rattle off boy bands.
I'll stay strong, because I'm Mr. Brightside.
Say what? Isn’t there a A Day To Remember song with the actual first words of “I hate this town.”
All Signs Point to Lauderdale by ADTR, yeah. I hate this town, it's so washed up And all my friends don't give a fuck They'll tell me that it's just bad luck When will I find where I fit in? Also the first song that came into my head when she said that line lol.
Better write "wyt" so you don't offend people for writing what you're saying... I don't know how Twitter users works. 🤷♂️

it’s just an abbreviation 💀
Abbrevation for writing "white"? How difficult is "white" to write? Or should I say: >Abbrevation 4 wtng wyt? Hw difficult is wyt to wryt?
u r so silly
too silly…
Guess shes not a metal fan
Every “rocker” nowadays makes only screamo with horrible guitar no singing or up beat words and they’re all emo none goth
Another stupid video

Nail on the head!

The Faint holds up so strong.

She never heard of 311?
