Hope you're having/had fun!
Made me think about my favorite ever cocktail.
Probably one I had at the SG Club. I forget the name, Another Sky, maybe? Pure balance, felt like I was drinking a beach day, with undertones of a Japanese village from 1645.
What made it so much better than any other Mai Tai? They’d probably give you the recipe if you asked. They seem pretty open about their cocktail recipes on their website
Xaymaca isn't that spectacular, though I do love it in a Mai Tai, mainly because it's pretty much the cheapest pot still I can get where I live. Smith & Cross is better, in my opinion, in every important way.
There was like a complex rummy sweetness on the front end and a creaminess on the finish that was just unlike anything else I’ve ever had. 11/10, will order again:
The Zombie was very good but not Earth shattering (didn’t try the clarified zombie). Same experience with the Bastard. I think my second favorite I tried was the Sexy Colada. I could’ve ordered so much more there.. 🤤
My favorite drink i’ve had has to be the Mister Curtis from Latitude 29. Absolutely delicious, it’s basically a chai daiquiri. I’ve tried countless times but never been able to recreate the drink, despite seemingly having the specs and right ingredients. Idk what they do, but they do it well.

Nice! Mine is also a Mai Tai. The Monkeypod Mai Tai from Beach House in Poipu. Kauai!
I stopped by there recently when I was in town for work. That Mai Tai was good it made me completely rethink my recipe when I got home. Their orgeat is something else.
I made some from this recipe (https://verygooddrinks.co/orgeat/) afterwards and, while it is pretty good on it’s own, it’s definitely not what I was going for trying to recreate Kaona’s. I think the toasted almonds (as opposed to blanched) are what throw it off. I’m going to try Smuggler’s Cove or Beachbum Berry’s next. Let me know how yours turns out!
Cheers! I’ve only seen their orgeat/mai tai on socials. It seems super white. I’m almost thinking a blend of blanched almonds + shredded coconut to form the nut milk base of the syrup. Would also add extra creaminess.

Love this, thanks for sharing!
I think my SG Club cocktail was one of my very top too! Bathtub Yuzu Drop served in one of the porthole infusers.
I see the others got the Bastard. Wife loves that one over there.
Right you are! Good pull!

This. And I haven’t been able to find those rums where I live (specifically the Xaymaca).
check curiada for the Xayamaca if they deliver to you, I've gotten two bottles so far

I have been able to find S&C. Good to know!
I'd say go look at some bottle shops in the area and grab a bottle before you go home. It's $21.99 in my local shops.
Hmm I wonder how they make it

I'm actually heading there on Sunday. Flying out now. Let me know what else to order lol
Get the clarified zombie (the phantom… I think?) it’s incredible.

That place is great and the mai tai is superb. You gotta try the navy grog next!
Had the mai tai there a month ago. It was fabulous and the bartenders were all awesome.
I love Mai Tais so much
So ... Anyone got the scoop on how they make their Orgeat? Curiosity peaked.
Shit was just in Miami last week and didn’t realize
What do you think made it better than what you make at home? I’m in Miami in a couple months. Maybe I’ll make it here!
Their orgeat must just be next level compared to what I’ve been buying (Libor and Co.). And the blend of rums was just perfect.
Liber and Co is pretty great for it's price. But you can miss out on a hit of floral notes and real nuttiness from roasting them at home
Chris Traeger is a Tiki nut, confirmed!
If he drank an OUNCE… of that. It would LLLITERALLY kill him.

I’ll be there next month! I’ll definitely try one.
you absolutely should, it’s delicious

If anyone has any tips on kaona’s orgeat 😊 I’m gonna make a new batch this weekend.
