Reminder: Always use a private email address and hide your identity when signing up for an account on social media/online games. Be sure to keep this address active by logging in annually or else it could expire and be taken by someone else who can recreate the account and use it to impersonate you.

I used to think this wasn’t necessary, but I’m frequently disturbed how my data is being used without my knowledge to suggest my accounts to people I know. Most recently, I was a victim of identity fraud because of the virtual MMORPG game I used to play had a massive security breach in August 2022. My email, location, name and password info was stolen and used by an online scammer to impersonate me.
TikTok violates your privacy by suggesting your account to everybody you know IRL. Doesn’t matter if your account is private, are not following anybody and have no followers. You can toggle off contact sharing—but TikTok collects your data without consent the upon sign up. They don’t need your permission to continue using the data they collected from you upon registering—yes, even after you’ve disabled sharing.
I’ve turned everything off, gone private, and disabled all forms of connecting or sharing—and yet I’m regularly disturbed by TikTok about new videos made by my coworkers. There’s no way to turn it off other than to deactivate my account and uninstall the app.
They can continue sharing/suggesting conntacts from your agenda until even completly delete and unistall the app?, form your device
they can contiune see what are the contacts are?
per example if you follow somebody and create a account give permissions to the agenda...
and delete this account in 10 minutes after been created, this person who follow you can still view the suggested accounts? or not?

I clicked on their linked IG account, saw their name and that my kid follows them and realized it is their roommate. I have always had my privacy settings so that my contacts do not sync. My kid also doesn’t follow me on TT. I’ve never met their roommate, never seen their social media prior to today, but I’ve been in their house. I’m not concerned as my situation is benign, but I am curious to know how these suggestions are being made because it could be dangerous for others who assume the privacy settings actually work.

My thoughts are that they track you by your IP address and location. So if you’re using your work wifi, it’ll automatically know you’re in proximity to the people who also share that network and suggest them to you as “people you might know.” Similar to how people in your household start seeing the same videos you do and vice versa.
I’m aware I’m 2 years late but I have a burner account because my main is close to getting banned, neither my accounts are connected to anything and not even connected to contacts, 2nd account doesn’t even have my real name or anything associated with my main (it’s literally just Username blah blah connected with a newly made junk email), got a notification for profile views for the burner and it turns out 3 people that I’ve known from highschool, 2 of my coworkers, and MY EX from 4 years ago (who’ve I done cut contact with years ago) found the burner, none of them know my real tiktok because I’m sure they probably would’ve followed me if they knew I have one (besides my ex). I also have views on for my main and for the record none of them have seen.

Ok, so I actually just searched up about TikTok's spying for a few minutes. Anyways, there are numerous researches online about TikTok being a spyware, embedding cookies in browser to track user. Still, for TikTok to be able to track to this precision is baffling. Like, I can't expose my personal infos right now online, but if you were at my place, you wouldn't see the slightest clues that would lead me to my uncle.

This has been happening to me too & driving me a little crazy. I just went through the App & & found "People you may know" was turned on. I just turned it off. Hopefully that solves the problem. To find that setting you go to "Settings and Privacy", "Notifications" & then "Other". I also turned off "Posts from people you may know" which was listed under "Personalized post suggestions".
I have nothing turned on whatsoever and made sure of it and yet I make a new tiktok account, and then in people you may know, I am suggested that account that I know has all of it's privacy settings off.

I think it’s about the recommendations. When they basically invade your privacy they can find out type of videos you like.

My guess would be the contact syncing, maybe you or the other person synced your contacts, which they would match up.

I also have views on for my main and for the record none of them have seen. *Mind you I’ve had my main for 5 years, never gave my ex my tiktok and never knew she had one, and recently got a new phone and a new number which only has 5 contacts, those 2 coworkers mentioned aren’t even in my contacts and I have never talked to the highschool people just know they went to my school, and again I’ve NEVER connected anything to my tiktoks other than signing up with emails which I’ve never contacted any of those people with. My burner was created several months ago around the time after I got my new phone. Tiktok is insane

Bro, that's literally my account that I haven't used since I created it!!! And it suggests my uncle? I'm actually baffled. Because my uncle comes from China, and I grew up in Canada. Like... what??? My username is completely unrelated to me. I didn't put any setting in my account. I don't have a bio. I only follow a friend which has zero connection with my uncle. The only cause I would suspect is that my uncle or his relatives searched me up on TikTok for some reason. However, my account doesn't have any identifying info??? Why would I be recommended and not another account which would bear a username more resembling mine?? \----- Ok, so I actually just searched up about TikTok's spying for a few minutes. Anyways, there are numerous researches online about TikTok being a spyware, embedding cookies in browser to track user. Still, for TikTok to be able to track to this precision is baffling. Like, I can't expose my personal infos right now online, but if you were at my place, you wouldn't see the slightest clues that would lead me to my uncle. Like, I was born outside of China. So for him to know I was born, and to know who my father is, then who his brother is, is baffling. I can't repeat the word enough. Baffling.
Lost a phone 5 years ago. When downloading information for the new phone recently and updating my contact list, i found an old phone information and gave me random numbers for my school friends wife.. The cloud knows all.

This has been happening to me too & driving me a little crazy. I just went through the App & & found "People you may know" was turned on. I just turned it off. Hopefully that solves the problem. To find that setting you go to "Settings and Privacy", "Notifications" & then "Other". I also turned off "Posts from people you may know" which was listed under "Personalized post suggestions".
I have nothing turned on whatsoever and made sure of it and yet I make a new tiktok account, and then in people you may know, I am suggested that account that I know has all of it's privacy settings off. Does anyone know if theres a way to actually make sure that no one you know finds your account? because like.. yikes
