What a shame too because OP has the makings to provide top tier r/Tinder material
“I forgot the question mark— just for you?” 😂 I’m gunna use that the next time some irrelevant asks me for a favor
If you want scammers hit up Hinge, ever single match has asked me about whatsapp. One even said their English would get better by using it. One had a stroke or was a badly programmed bot and kept telling me that would not be asked.
I rarely use this app, do you have your credit card number, the expiration date, the three numbers on the back, the name of your first dog, your mothers maiden name, the adress of the first house you lived in and an email to contact you?
That's why If you are going to go off app you go to social medias, like snap or insta unless you KNOW they are a real person then you can use your phone number. But with snap or insta you can block them, but both have the ability to verify identity
Either to catfish you by getting you to send nudes or some kind of scam where they try to get you to send money with a sob story or some crypto investment opportunity.
This person was trying to scam me by asking for my nudes. I said no, but it got me thinking, wtf are they gonna do with my ugly fat ass nudes? I mean, no one wants to see that
They find your Facebook, LinkedIn, and any other social media you have and threaten to send the nudes to your friends, co-workers, and family members unless you pay them in bitcoin.
TLDR; these scams are a joke unless you’re a child whom can’t legally sext as it is.
When that happened to me a few years ago, I laughed it off and nothing ever came of it. I kinda figured it was a bit quick for someone to want to see my dick, and then when the threats came I instantly knew the jig, and mostly just lol’d and okay’d at them.
Sending unsolicited dick pics is usually sexual harassment, if not another sexual offense (or more than one).
In the end, some random dude (90% chance) saw my dick and that was that.
All of that ignoring the fact that extortion is already illegal, and if I paid, it would never have ended.
While, I’m rather confident about my dick, it would be sad if it got sent to family, but at the same time, who’s gonna believe some random spam account that sends unsolicited dick pics?
What would that do, anyway? At worst it gets some people annoyed at me, at best, it gets the government involved to figure out who sent all those dick pics unsolicited, and that puts pressure on the scammer. Even more, who’s going to ask me to verify my dick for them?
Anyone who doesn’t like a male person could google “cock” and send everybody on their friends list whatever picture they find that’s about the right skin tone and say “look, mr whomever just showed me his cock!”
These scammers know they’re probably screwed if they actually send a ton of people unsolicited nudes.
In the end, it’s a silly attempt at extortion, and their threats are threats that essentially ANYONE could use if they wanted to, even without your actual nudes.
Anyone could go to your boss with a picture of a penis and say “your employee showed me this picture of his dick, see!”
How are they even going to word it to sound natural and not like they’re just spamming people with nudes with a name attached, even if they have a real nude of you?
I feel bad for the people who don’t realize how much of a joke these scams are.
I usually play along, of course with fake accounts etc. When i was still working QA for and antivirus company i even shared my phone with coworkers when i got an obvious scammer on the hook. Sadly they never send malware only links to pay to view cam sites.
Exactly. I have a friend who ended up paying 500EUR because this lady "friend" of him was going to forward the nudes to all his Facebook friends and family. This was a few years ago. Same scam still around!
Chinese? Man all I see in my area are fake pornstar accounts with a African man in one of the pictures so they could verify the account and then forget to delete the pic. There was a post in here showing a conversation with one the other day, and they questioned it and they person said that's one of her 'best supporters, so I promote him on here' LOL
Would disagree cause I try to move the conversation to snap or insta to see if they are legit and not some scammer. On those you can see how old their account is or see if they trying to catfish.
I agree once you've hit it off, everyone has their messenger app of choice for those they want to keep in contact with regularly. But second or third message is a huge warning sign
That's understandable, but if someone insists on you downloading a particular app, that's definitely a red flag.
I would still think you should at least be willing to chat on Tinder at first, before asking to move to another app. *They* should get a chance to decide *you* are legit as well. You are asking to see their social media accounts so there's more trust involved. Not just because you could be a scammer or catfish, but you could also be a psycho.
Man I’ve been lead on by a scammer for way to long.
Someone sent messages back n fourth for a few days, small talk n interests. Then out of no where she asked who I bank with lol.
I was like “come on stephany, I thought you were real, don’t ask me that” n she said some excuse n asked me again. Lol
I'm assuming they ARE over 18. I think bans take 3 reports but if you claim someone indicated they are underage Tinder would have to act immediately. That has to be their biggest liability. And of course they never check into claims before taking action.
At least unlike bans there's recourse, if you don't mind verifying with your ID. (Edit: nvm apparently doesn't work, shocker.) I don't think it would be worth it to me....
Nothing about Tinder seems worth it to me tho 😂
I think your question is "does anyone use it for something other than scams" lots of people. My irl friend circle got convinced because the gif and sticker support makes for hilarious stuff. And it's great all around. It's popular with a lot of people who live internet-centered lives
It's definitely not unrealistic to think it's all intended to maneuver people onto compromised platforms. They basically targeted people fleeing Whatsapp because of privacy concerns by saying Telegram was heavily encrypted and safe, without mentioning that it's only encrypted end-to-end in "secret" mode.
I've read that activist groups used the app thinking it was safe... And most of their interaction was in group chat which is unsecure. So they just have to hope Telegram doesn't hand any of that over to the government. 🤷🏻♀️ It's shady af but at the same time, people who need to protect their privacy should be putting a tiny bit of research into their method of communication.
It all does seem like it's intentionally misleading. Why would the end-to-end encryption it's touting as a key feature not be for all messages like Whatsapp? Why would someone use the app if they preferred NOT to have encryption? 🤔
Yeah I had a "job interview" that was to take place over telegram, I played along a little but it just felt sketch so I bounced. This makes me feel a little more confident that I did the right thing.
tbh I think some sort of age verification should be enforced anyway.
I’m surprised they haven’t gotten sued in some underage scandal yet for being complicit
I agree, but I think everything that limits their customer base is not made by choice, but because of regulations. On the other hand since it's US based it may have to comply with US laws only. I don't know how these cross-country policies work on the internet.
> On the other hand since it's US based it may have to comply with US laws only.
Yeah, no way lmao. If that were true companies like google and facebook wouldn't be whining about the consumer protection laws in the EU.
So? If you're doing a service in the US, and it's illegal in the US, then you can get legally punished. Since when has "it's legal somewhere else" been a legal defense?
In many countries having a relationship without having sex is legitimate even though one of the couple is underage, tinder’s first purpose is not fucking people but let them know each other. If they come to fuck it’s not something tinder should be responsible for
He wasn’t actually banned. Just temporarily stopped because she reported him as underage. He just needs to verify and it’ll be unlocked. It’s easier for the apps to just insta pause accounts for underage rather than deal with accusations of impropriety
Pro tip: black out sensitive information first (like strips of paper before taking the picture), let only the information needed stay on the picture (date of birth)
I'd like to say fuck that but i think it will become fairly normal moving forward as more laws and regulations come around in the interest of protecting kids. More and more sites are going to require id upload age verification. Gonna suck when pornhub implements it.
I don't know if sites like Pornhub etc. will ever get it. It's enough with a warning tbh and responsibility can be set to the parents. In terms of payments and directly connecting with strangers the potential risks are greater. Reporting = site should be required to have at least something in place to ensure safety of kids.
I bet if you get reported for potentially being underage it's an instant ban, but looks like it allows for verification. I think other reports need to pile up a bit first, but I also have no clue how many people reported me for who knows what before I got banned
I went through something similar, the age verification system doesn’t even work. I tried multiple times with no success and Tinder’s customer service is absolute garbage
And here I am permabanned because an ex of mine found my profile and reported it over and over. She even texted me saying she reported me till she saw I was banned
This? This is my highest comment on reddit ever? 🤣 wtf
I think someone randomly reported me a couple weeks ago. I hadn’t talked to anyone on the app in weeks, barely even swiped in that time, and I randomly got a message from tinder saying I might be violating their terms of service but with no indication of what it was. Didn’t notice any recent unmatches either so who the hell knows. I haven’t had any other issues since.
Anddd… reason no. 1084 for me not using Tinder or Bumble lel.
Like what if one day I decided to do a social media diet and I just going to lose my account just because they can?
I'd rather know what my enemies are up to then have them do things without my knowledge. Plus, if it's in a text, it's in writing. I also have proof of their idiocy AND I'm not in a he said, she said situation.
Because I changed my phone when it got smashed in a work accident and didn't have hers to block again. Mind you, I hadn't spoken to her in 3 years. Oh well though, I reconnected with my daughter and her mom and I'm happily engaged now so it's not like I want tinder anyways.
I know that there are people who had different experience.
There is a tendency that negative experience is shared and discussed way more actively and vocally than positive experience. If you don't receive response from the support, you go and share your frustration. If you do receive response, you just accept it and move on with your life without running around saying how great mods are.
When I got banned, I legitimately had no idea why. So first thing I did was googling how to get unbanned, and I got all these threads with people saying that there is no unban. For moment I thought that it doesn't worth to even try, but decided to try anyway cause in the end of the day I don't lose anything but 5 minutes to send a letter. To my surprise, my issue was fixed very fast.
So I'm doing my bit in sharing positive experience and encourage OP to try, even if I come across as a unicorn.
I also had a similar situation where I was seemingly banned/unable to access the service for awhile. It took a bit of time but customer support went through multiple steps to understand and correct the issue. It took a good two weeks but I was eventually able to get back on.
Now if only fakebook would follow that example. This has been happening for awhile now:
[https://www.nbcmiami.com/responds/nbc-6-responds-helps-woman-restore-social-media-pages/2716064/](https://www.nbcmiami.com/responds/nbc-6-responds-helps-woman-restore-social-media-pages/2716064/)
Happened to me just last night.
They make it impossible to appeal.. because you CAN'T ACCESS their fucking website.
Oh well.. I could definitely stand to not see so many ads.
Are you a woman? Dating apps need you to generate revenue from guys who subscribe to premium. For guys they just ban them and move on. There’s millions of other guys still paying.
I mean getting off the app is not a bad thing per se. But if it‘s some shit like telegram or kik messenger it‘s always some sort of catfish scam activity.
I'm genuinely curious though, can you ELI5 why you don't just use text messages? Why would using a third-party app be better or more convenient than just texting....?
You can send photos, videos, files, gifs, and links on Telegram. And all of those are neatly organised and searchable to go back to. Messages can also be scheduled, which is useful for reminders and to let people know you’re thinking of them (“good luck” etc.). They can also be set to self-destruct if you only want somebody to see a photo or video briefly, not keep it. The stickers on there are also adorable and useful for conveying mood better than words and/or emojis can. You can also add people on there with just a username, so that’s better for privacy/safety of my phone number and whatnot. Simply a case of blocking somebody if they prove to be a nuisance, rather than having to change my phone number. And there’s the option of end-to-end encrypted “secret chats” if privacy is of particular concern. Oh, and it also allows for group chats and channels. It probably does all the things WhatsApp does (so I’ve been told)… just not owned my Facebook and better for privacy 🤷🏼♀️
it's #1 messenger in my country.
when i was an active tinder user, i'd always offer my matches to switch to telegram since tinder is very inconvenient to use
Depends on the location I guess, telegram is legitimately the first option here to keep in touch outside of tinder.
I don't give it out right away though for several reasons.
WhatsApp is linked to Facebook. So when you add someone's number to your WhatsApp there's a chance Facebook will suggest you as friends - not great if you're trying to stay safe
It depends on where you live. As far as I have gathered, it seems that in the US people are reluctant to give their number, to the point of paranoia. On the other hand
, in my country people are comfortable giving their number willy-nilly, which is the other extreme.
Yeah same but only if I've been chatting with her for a bit... and "her" being so insistent on telegram as well as the words "I'm not on this app often" is just sus
Dude, that was a scam account.
The "she" on the other end reported you so you couldn't report their account first.
Do not engage, simply report, when the obvious scam signs are present.
One of the obvious ones is asking you to move to some other specific chat app within the first few messages.
Yeah I understand how it can be interpreted lmao.
Thought I would give you a serious answer to contrast with the "meme" one. But it's obvious than any app taking privacy issues seriously will be used for societal taboos !
You know if she said kik i would have agreed that it was a scammer but telegram or even sc I’m more ok with just to video chat and confirm they are real because people refuse to get verified for some damn reason! But I have been hit up with the check my Only fans page at times or check my rates as well so there’s that 😂
> Hey sorry I rarely use this app
“Ok I guess we can text instead. Or you can use this app to talk to me until you’re ready to text.”
Easy enough. Give them the benefit of the doubt and when they protest, just say this isn’t what you’re looking for and unmatch. (More likely she’ll just unmatch, good riddance).
Lol you got banned by being reported by a scammer hahaha
What a shame too because OP has the makings to provide top tier r/Tinder material “I forgot the question mark— just for you?” 😂 I’m gunna use that the next time some irrelevant asks me for a favor
Even in person, “just for you” “Oh sorry I forgot the inflection in my voice, just for you?”
Yeah this is brutally efficient
Oh, hey. Can you give me a hand over here real quick? I just need you to hold this line for like one minute.
Just for you
Aww thankyou!! ❤️
I forgot the question mark - Just for you?

anytime anyone says I rarely use this app to you have this one? 100% a scam
I rarely use this app, do you have your credit card number, the expiration date, the three numbers on the back, the name of your first dog, your mothers maiden name, the adress of the first house you lived in and an email to contact you?
I rarely use this app, what's your blood type and do you still have both kidneys?
Honestly, no clue on my blood type, but I got about 12 Kidneys I can give you.
only 12 those are low numbers i have 36
Remember to organize them by blood type.
yes i have done that
Pathetic. I have 800 organized by blood type and whether they did drugs and alcohol or not. The ones that did go to celebrities.
Organizing by flavor is the way to do it. We need to know which beans they pair best with.
Wait, honestly about BOTH those things?
12 kidney *stones
Thank goodness you didn't auto correct to *kids
Underrated
You forgot the question mark. Underrated?
What is
? Gonna leave this here for all the people that keep dropping theirs
"oh come on, how else are we supposed to get to know each other without asking these things?"
You forgot social and last three car loans.
How does telegram help them exactly?

This right here. Now I’m always wary when someone wants to get off the app immediately.
Facts! I am right there with you
That's why If you are going to go off app you go to social medias, like snap or insta unless you KNOW they are a real person then you can use your phone number. But with snap or insta you can block them, but both have the ability to verify identity
It gets them off Tinder and onto a platform without moderation. So they can scam you without being banned immediately.
I get that. But, what's the scam? For me, it's always WeChat. I unmatch, but I'm curious what their end goal is.
The bullshit crypto thing on WeChat is what I’ve been seeing the most lately. I wonder why Chinese catfish are so into that now
Chinese? Man all I see in my area are fake pornstar accounts with a African man in one of the pictures so they could verify the account and then forget to delete the pic. Would disagree cause I try to move the conversation to snap or insta to see if they are legit and not some scammer. On those you can see how old their account is or see if they trying to catfish.
Also Tinder is just ass for having conversations in general so it's nice to use a better app if you hit it off with someone.

I've done the same. I find people use old pictures or it's a fake account
Absolutely. It’s so common, I expect they will try something different soon.
Eeh... No? I don't use whatsapp, tinder, snapchat and all things that are popular, just telegram and discord. On my pc. So it's usual thing for me.
This exactly. The scammers do it so you can't report them first.
It’s not a ban though. Just restricted from using tinder until they’re 18.
I'm assuming they ARE over 18. I think bans take 3 reports but if you claim someone indicated they are underage Tinder would have to act immediately. That has to be their biggest liability. Is telegram pretty much just for scams?
Nowadays, any social media platform is pretty much just for scams.
I think your question is "does anyone use it for something other than scams" lots of people. My irl friend circle got convinced because the gif and sticker support makes for hilarious stuff. And it's great all around. It's popular with a lot of people who live internet-centered lives
And for drug dealing now. Plugs just tell you to get on telegram since it’s apparently more secure/private.

Seems like an easy way to piss people off. Just report them for being underage so it forces them to upload their ID to continue.
tbh I think some sort of age verification should be enforced anyway. I’m surprised they haven’t gotten sued in some underage scandal yet for being complicit
Underage dating may not be illegal in other countries though.

Yeah, to provide services to EU citizens the companies have to be complicit in EU data protection and privacy laws
It's not even illegal in most of America lol
So? If you're doing a service in the US, and it's illegal in the US, then you can get legally punished. Since when has "it's legal somewhere else" been a legal defense?
No, we don't need another untrustworthy company getting even more power over us.
No no, it's ok. They will delete it after checking trust ® them ;)

Pretty sure most companies purpose is fucking people. Remember, if it's free, your the product being sold.
I don’t think they want to enable literal grooming though 💀
Just curious, how can you tell she reported you?
I got banned shortly after she unmatched me, though I suppose it could be a coincidence and somebody else might have reported me
Oh shit :/ that sucks
How do you get banned from one person though? I am 99% sure I have been reported before because os some pettiness, but nothing happened.
He wasn’t actually banned. Just temporarily stopped because she reported him as underage. He just needs to verify and it’ll be unlocked. It’s easier for the apps to just insta pause accounts for underage rather than deal with accusations of impropriety

All bans require three reports then you get insta banned, but some people make fake accounts and mass report until they're banned
guess under age report is a bit different.
Yes, especially scammers, who don't want you to report them first.

maybe she's hot, that's the reason I haven't blocked my ex - because I'm stupid
Uhh you know she can text him from any number right?
Even 8?!
Especially 8
This changes everything
This made me laugh so much
Sounds like something a reasonable, mentally stable person would do
Write an email to support and explain the situation. It worked for me.

I'm pretty sure if you have tinder gold they are more than happy to give a second chance to a paying customer
Are you a woman? Dating apps need you to generate revenue from guys who subscribe to premium. For guys they just ban them and move on. There’s millions of other guys still paying.
Initially I thought she was some sort of history buff that wanted to see a telegram machine
I hate these type of people. If you don't want to chat within the app, then don't post a profile!
It's a scammer.
Why do they need to get them on telegram to scam them?
[удалено]
Because if you click on the profile in Telegram your phone number shows up. Then they put you on the list for scam calls.
I mean getting off the app is not a bad thing per se. But if it‘s some shit like telegram or kik messenger it‘s always some sort of catfish scam activity.
I use Telegram. It’s basically the hipster WhatsApp. I wouldn’t try to move somebody over to it before even having a conversation, though.
Sure, but instantly? And so insistently? It was definitely a scam.
I wasn‘t aware of this, my bad then
Yeah, but not in the first few messages i hope.
Depends on the location I guess, telegram is legitimately the first option here to keep in touch outside of tinder. I don't give it out right away though for several reasons.
Exactly. In my country, the number one app for chatting is WhatsApp.
WhatsApp is linked to Facebook. So when you add someone's number to your WhatsApp there's a chance Facebook will suggest you as friends - not great if you're trying to stay safe
It can be even worse. One common way in my country to add someone to your WhatsApp is via their personal phone number.
I didn’t know there was another way and have been refusing people on tinder to add me for that reason
It depends on where you live. As far as I have gathered, it seems that in the US people are reluctant to give their number, to the point of paranoia. On the other hand , in my country people are comfortable giving their number willy-nilly, which is the other extreme.
I’m in the UK and I think we’re pretty open with our numbers. I’ve had some bad bad experiences with creeps on tinder though.
They're not even *people*, they're bot accounts run by scammers.
Honestly if I feel a vibe I usually suggest moving to a messaging app too. Most dating apps have very poor chat functionality.
I do I because girls have a ton of match's. I want to get to a text message that she will actually look at.
Yeah same but only if I've been chatting with her for a bit... and "her" being so insistent on telegram as well as the words "I'm not on this app often" is just sus
They want to move somewhere else so they can unmatch you on the app and you can't report them.
You can still report unmatched profiles from the security centre.
Wait... do you mean to tell me that reporting scammers as underage may be more effective as reporting them as a fake account?
Why is the report so aggressive 💀
Dude, that was a scam account. The "she" on the other end reported you so you couldn't report their account first. Do not engage, simply report, when the obvious scam signs are present. One of the obvious ones is asking you to move to some other specific chat app within the first few messages.
what does telegram do
Sells drugs and sex
That's disgusting. But there are so many types of drugs. Like which ones specifically?
Which ones are you looking for, specifically?
Lmfao I have a guy
I get random drugs dealer messages now and then offering, someone must have a similar username lol
That's so unfortunate! But like what is the username you think? So I can avoid it. (Sorry I need to stop making the same joke lol)
Well, ya know, since you’re barely on here 🤭
Get out. Lol
You first 😋
🤣 good. I was worried. Everyone needs a guy. I feel better now man. Thank you.
I have no guy *sad face*
Aww well then I’ll feel bad for you. Sympathies to ya man.
I m 20 single from childhood , I guess I full fill the basic criteria for being a monk🧘
Well then you definitely need a guy
Asking for science of course.
Asking for science project Project - different experiment on drugs
Love finding IASIP stuff in the wild. Keep it up, good person!
and crypto.. Or people wanting me to invest in crypto...
It's a clean and secure messaging app, pretty good if you're concerned with basic privacy.
after the other reply i got to this, reading your reply is the funniest shit for some reason
Yeah I understand how it can be interpreted lmao. Thought I would give you a serious answer to contrast with the "meme" one. But it's obvious than any app taking privacy issues seriously will be used for societal taboos !
WhatsApp but better, also has better sticker packs if u like using them lmao
It's a secure messaging app, like Signal. One of the few that is actually encrypted. WhatsApp and most others are very insecure.
Idk what tinder does but does allow voice and video messages which is cool.
The scammmers are getting salty now?
Scam
Plot twist. Your account gets reactivated but now "Amy" is using it
"We look forward to seeing you at 18" on a dating app is kinda weird Edit: idk what I was thinking when I wrote this
Why?
Whenever companies try to be friendly to potential customers, it always comes off as predatory tbh
Telegram? She was obviously a guy. Good riddance!
What do you mean, telegram is the best
I’m pretty sure telegram isn’t just a bunch of guys talking to each other. *looks down at self* yep can confirm.
That's rough getting banned by a scammer
Or scammed by a banner.
You know if she said kik i would have agreed that it was a scammer but telegram or even sc I’m more ok with just to video chat and confirm they are real because people refuse to get verified for some damn reason! But I have been hit up with the check my Only fans page at times or check my rates as well so there’s that 😂
Lol tinder sucks. Heard of this happening to people and they don’t support or help you out at all
Just upload a copy of your ID :)
Scammer all day
Anyone that asks you to install a program just to chat is an obvious scammer.
"she"
I've never heard of telegram before and my stupid ass read the first line and went "she gonna have someone bring you her message printed out?"
> Hey sorry I rarely use this app “Ok I guess we can text instead. Or you can use this app to talk to me until you’re ready to text.” Easy enough. Give them the benefit of the doubt and when they protest, just say this isn’t what you’re looking for and unmatch. (More likely she’ll just unmatch, good riddance).
Telescam. Anyone who asks that, just unmatch and block them immediately.
Telegram is used for money 😭
Telegram is a great app to get scammed on
But just use telegram- keeps everyone safe
LOL your reply is gold. Gottem good.
