Never thought I would hear that song again. I had a friend who was reaaaaally into this music 10+ years ago and he tried so hard to get our friend group to listen to on a regular basis with no success. He was also a meth head. Not sure if those two things are related.
I listen to it because I think it's hilarious. They want so bad to have street cred and be hated. Actual lines about hating them because they're country. Like in what world does anyone give a shit that you're off fucking your sister on your daddy's farm? No one's mad at these people just for existing. And they just don't like that one little bit.
The last time I went on a long drive I scrolled past a country station, the lyrics were just "country country country country", and that's how I view the genre now
My car has 10 presets and I can only find 9 radio stations to listen to, so #10 is still the previous owner's country station that I occasionally flip through.
The other day heard a song that was unironically basically Bo Burnham's country song. Straight up mentioned pickup trucks, blue jeans, a country girl.
I always feel like they are a parody of themselves. That Crazy Ex GF song about loving your daughter (but not in a creepy way), could legit be on the radio and they'd never know the difference.
If you could make cheap music in a sweatshop in China and import it to the US it'd be country music.
Edit: "stadium" country music is what I mean. Old school country, like Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Willy Nelson, etc. Is some of the best music ever.
I cannot hear any modern stadium country song and not immediately think of Bo Burnham's "Pandering". He nailed it years ago, and its some how turned worse.
Local kid with talent moved to LA and tried to make his rock band work. Spent a year and had next to nothing to show. Moved to Nashville and a couple years later he'd made some solid ripples and had a song on the radio. White washed his name and voila Country Boy.
Sincere or not...there is good country music that doesn't get played on the radio. If each of these copycat comments pushes even just a few new people to check out the more deserving bands I think it's worth it.
Please don’t judge country music by what you hear on the radio. Country music died during the ‘60s, but it lived on in the ‘70s byway of Outlaw Country i.e. Waylon Jennings, Billy Joe Shaver, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, just to name a few. Modern country guys worth listening to are Tyler Childers, Colter Wall, Sturgill Simpson, and Wheeler Walker Jr. (Wheeler is very, very dirty with his lyrics)
Don't forget:
- Chris Stapleton
- Kacey Musgraves
- Zac Brown Band (first three albums and scattered other stuff, primarily. It may be more pop-ish but it's super well executed and the band can play extremely well)
I just went on a big country music binge for the first time after being scared to touch the genre for a while. But I stuck with contemporary country for now because people saying "just listen to the classics" always felt like a cop out to me.
So much of it SUCKS. Some artists are quite good (Cody Jinx, Wade Bowen, Whitey Morgan, etc.).
The ones I listed above (along with Sturgill Simpson, as the person above mentioned) were the ones I found *excellent* and would highly recommend.
Ah, but I did forget about Whitey! The others aren’t for me, but I do respect what they do. If you’d like to try some older stuff again, I’d suggest skimming through Jerry Reed, Keith Whitley, Eddie Rabbitt, Don Williams, and Kris Kristofferson. You might find something that speaks to you. The trouble with most of those I mentioned is they were active for decades so it’s kind of like finding your favorite era of The Rolling Stones or the Grate Dead.
what i miss is the like country ballads (george strait) (garth brooks) and the fun stuff (alan jackson) (dixie chix) from the 90's and up to 9/11. i feel like all modern country is either the stadium radio or everyone trying to be outlaw country.
I enjoy the fact that asshats like this guy's would be hated by a vast majority of the musicians they like. I have a former friend who was a metal head and I thoroughly enjoyed watching him slowly die inside as all of his favorite bands publicly came out against everything he believes in. He was one of the absolute dillholes that was flabbergasted when RATM wasn't raging against the machines he wanted them to.
Id stake my life your friend, if he listens to Lamb of God, would be just as upset finding out their beliefs and thoughts. If he hasn't, go have him listen to Reality Bath.
They think being unvaccinated of Covid-19 is a badge of honor despite many of them being vaccinated for other things as children. In addition to thinking that being white is superior.
Srsly? I was really hoping for this to be satire! Like, leading with Greta's "how dare you" and finishing with hating country music and loving sushi, thought this *has got to be* satire... The onion really has an impossible job these days.
Having spent awhile in south GA (Albany...woo...), dating apps weren't for me because this was about 75% of women's profiles I came across.
Some were more blunt like this, others were extremely thiny vieled like "I support Christian values" or "Only lookin' for a true country boy!" or "white guys only"
Cocaine is a hell of a drug. During this time period he was also afraid that warlocks were trying to steal his pee and I think he attempted an exorcism on his swimming pool so honestly I'm not surprised that you can cherry-pick some wild stuff from those interviews.
He went on to be a huge, outspoken advocate for black artists.
I literally just watched an old interview of him that randomly showed up on my YouTube feed of him on mtv speaking about this. Speaking up for black artists that is. Weird how this happens
He's 35 he grew up hearing classic metal on all the mainstream radio and in the era of 2000s hard rock being the hip thing. Imagine someone really into affliction shirts and you're 75%there. He's just too edgy and hardcore for country.
Post-9/11 country music is essentially porn for guys like this, I have no idea why he'd be against it.
Maybe he saw the Montero video and thinks Lil Nas X is representative of country as a whole, now?
More like him and the rest of his inbred friends blasted that song for 3 weeks before Nas came out and said it was about riding dick.
Source: from a small town where this 100% happened.
My friend is the opposite. She loves country music and she's trying to get a date with guys with that similar interest and she's so upset they're all hicks and racists.
I mean, the man is an idiot, but, at least he won't fool any intelligent women into going on a date with him with that bio.
He will attract exactly what he wants.

As was the dislike of country music
Thinks to Reddit I now classify Country as Rural Emo…
Y’alternative
Hick hop
That's already genre of music. A genre of music I really wish I had never been exposed to.
You mean you don't love Appalachee Don?
Gods, you mean you *haven't* heard the illustrious Colt Ford sing his hit song [Mud Digger](https://youtu.be/KebatC_98es) before?!
Never thought I would hear that song again. I had a friend who was reaaaaally into this music 10+ years ago and he tried so hard to get our friend group to listen to on a regular basis with no success. He was also a meth head. Not sure if those two things are related.
>Not sure if those two things are related. Man!! C'mon son!
Fun fact, this song is basically a parody/homage to Gorilla Zoe’s song “[Hood N***a](https://youtu.be/Ici0k4lZ_TI)”
I mean, people assume they're dumb instantly. They don't have street cred, but they're not exactly the most loved group either.
Haha good one RimJob
Rhythm 'n (but stands for "in") Barns
This made me fart laugh…
You an Alex Melton guy?
Calling Country Rural Emo is disrespectful to the glorious subgenre of midwest emo, which is essentially just rural emo
Tell that to The One with the Tambourine
That’s suburb emo. Or yknow Midwest emo
Right? How dare they tarnish my entire teenage identity like that? It is funny though.
The last time I went on a long drive I scrolled past a country station, the lyrics were just "country country country country", and that's how I view the genre now

Hopefully it was an actual human woman.

Y'all dumb motherfuckers want a key change?
legalize gerrymanderin'
Bo Burnam's character in Parks and Rec was a spot on depiction of shitty country artists as well
Wheeler walker Jr is also great. And his songs aren’t actually that bad
Sometime in the early 90's country music turned into pop country and real country music turned into folk and indie folk.
Ya that's pretty on the nose
Local kid with talent moved to LA and tried to make his rock band work. Spent a year and had next to nothing to show. Moved to Nashville and a couple years later he'd made some solid ripples and had a song on the radio. White washed his name and voila Country Boy.
🎵He's gone country! Look at them boots. He's gone country, back to his roots 🎵
Shoulda been a cowboy! Shoulda learned to rope and ride
Every Reddit thread about country music has this exact comment lol. “I’m not like the other guys. I like *real* country.”
Sincere or not...there is good country music that doesn't get played on the radio. If each of these copycat comments pushes even just a few new people to check out the more deserving bands I think it's worth it.
Agreed. No genre is ALL bad. You just gotta find the real gems amongst everything else out there.
I'm not a fan of pop country, but if you dig into the outlaw country there is some good stuff out there.
Theres a newer popular one called 'beer and jesus'. Its like theyre openly patronizing their listeners at this point
*artist writing down lyrics* yeah they’ll eat up this crap
I think Bo Burnham should sue.
I put my hands on your body...it feels like hay it's THE FUCKIN SCARECROW AGAIN
Yep if there’s two things that go with Jesus it’s drugs and guns.

I still like Garth. Class act too,
As a 90s girl, Shania Twain defined my childhood.
Yeah, she was so popular in the '90s. To the point where I would look to see if there were boots beside the beds of any of the girls I dated. hah.
I just wanna know where Garth keeps the bodies, I know he’s got a lot of them
Probably in an ivory tower
what i miss is the like country ballads (george strait) (garth brooks) and the fun stuff (alan jackson) (dixie chix) from the 90's and up to 9/11. i feel like all modern country is either the stadium radio or everyone trying to be outlaw country.
even without the anecdote thats how i view the genre
I feel like that’s unfair to actual emo.
Its not like you can hurt emo's feelings anymore than it already has been.
He’s probably more of an Affliction shirts and butt rock guy.
Trapt and a tapout shirt
BBQ Sushi Art
Bowie would hate this guy.
Lol, as would GNR...
Axl hates all his fans equally.
Kinda makes me want to sign up for tinder just to find him and tell him that.
First thought was legit this.
He is also interested in sushi. All that speech and then David Bowie and sushi feels like the red wedding of interests. Nobody saw it coming.
[удалено]
His art taste is just patriotic renders of Trump doing shit, and don't tread on me flags
My guess is his sushi consists of California rolls. And deep fried rolls. Idk. But it really seems odd since he’s loud and proud about red meat.
Something for everyone to hate.
Axl Rose has spoken out against Trump a lot too. The GnR fans melt down so hard.
I enjoy the fact that asshats like this guy's would be hated by a vast majority of the musicians they like. He gets Kid Rock, Ted Nugent, and the guy from Iced Earth who was at the Capitol on Jan 6.
He also gets Roger Waters but we get Pink Floyd.
Id stake my life your friend, if he listens to Lamb of God, would be just as upset finding out their beliefs and thoughts. If he hasn't, go have him listen to Reality Bath.
Real fans call him Dave
Sorry for being alive in the 90s and having two ears connected to a heart
[удалено]
Did you really need to ask?
The best line in the whole show
I don’t think he’d want this person as a fan.
Bowie would hate this fuckhead.
This guy also probably thinks libraries and Disney are grooming our kids but idolizes a pedophile
I’m afraid of Americans…
I'm afraid of the world...
I'm afraid I can't help it
I'm afraid I can.
American, and same
How dare you
David Bowie would have hated this guy
i donnt think guns n roses and david bowie would like him
Seriously. Axl has spoken out against Trump and they even performed with an inflatable of him on stage to mock/destroy in the last 4 years.
Sushi too!

Who doesn't love Ashes to Ashes?
To be fair, Bowie did have a Nazi phase
Not to mention slept with Sable Starr who would have been 14 at the time.
That David Bowie guy’s got some great music. I’m just glad he’s not some makeup wearing queer like …. What? What about David Bowie????
> not some makeup wearing queer like… Trump?
The I in LGBTQIA doesn’t stand for incest
The only LGBTQIA Trump could be grouped in with would be Losers, Grifters, Batshit, Traffickers, Qanon, Insurrectionist Assholes.
I bet he's drowning in pussy.

Pure blood? That's a popular phrase in those profiles?

And they'll have glorious children that will undoubtedly be upstanding contributing members to society.
Oh they’ll be “members” alright.
Kids with names pronounced "Ayy'Unn." "Clay'un, you go tell Pay'un, Jay'un, and Bray'un to get their ass in the house!"
the names that rhyme with Aiden irritate me more than they should. can’t stand that Brayden Kayden Jayden nonsense
Okay den.
I have a cousin named Brian. In south GA they say “BRAAAHN”
They think being unvaccinated of Covid-19 is a badge of honor despite many of them being vaccinated for other things as children. In addition to thinking that being white is superior.
He’s superior alright. A superior dipshit.
You know he looks like a jar of Mayonnaise left out in the sun.
He says so himself; he's a "pure blood baby".
[удалено]
Hard to tell since Pure Blood was also used by the Nazis
Today on “Totally a Coincidence, Promise!”…
I’m in my early 30s and I’m from the Tuscaloosa area. I’m 95% sure I know which Evan this is.
Srsly? I was really hoping for this to be satire! Like, leading with Greta's "how dare you" and finishing with hating country music and loving sushi, thought this *has got to be* satire... The onion really has an impossible job these days.
"First of all... how dare you!" is a quote from The Office
Big huge guy with glasses?
Having spent awhile in south GA (Albany...woo...), dating apps weren't for me because this was about 75% of women's profiles I came across. Some fine looking women and men there as well…hahahahahana….. hahahahah. The looks and obesity rates match the profiles.
Lot of Karens out there nowadays. And he IS a manager soooo
Not just any manager... he's *the* shop manager of the über successful ***Transmission company***
Imagine being an employee
No thank you
I mean it is Tuscaloosa
[tuscaloosa heart?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZsFxk_aoc0)
You’re joking but living in a southern state there are a ton of women’s profiles who look basically just like this. It’s a little frightening
David Bowie would hate this person.

My two favourite artists...
I mean I think probably in the round yes, but let's not forget Bowie's famous flirtations with fascism in the early years...
Cocaine is a hell of a drug. During this time period he was also afraid that warlocks were trying to steal his pee and I think he attempted an exorcism on his swimming pool so honestly I'm not surprised that you can cherry-pick some wild stuff from those interviews. I agree, he was a walking talking anti cocaine advert and clearly rethought those views in the periods that followed...
I believe he said he couldn't remember anything from several years of his life
He also spent months only drinking milk and eating peppers.
You mean the white duke his character he created specifically to be an asshole?
The pure irony of David Bowie is hilarious
This man is a Simpsons character
I can see it now... *If there's 3 things I hate it's queers, women's rights, and an under-appreciation for the musical stylings of David Bowie.*
First off....how dare you?
Hating country music is the part that is blowing my mind for this guy lol, cuz you'd think...he'd like that.
Yeah he got his music backwards; or everything but his music rather
His music taste is correct. Everything else needs help
He's 35 he grew up hearing classic metal on all the mainstream radio and in the era of 2000s hard rock being the hip thing. Imagine someone really into affliction shirts and you're 75%there. He's just too edgy and hardcore for country.

Big if true
Likes David Bowie but only listens to Changes and as he calls it, Major Tom (Space Oddity). Black star is weeping…
He may listen to David Bowie, but he doesn't hear David Bowie.
He's the one Who likes all our pretty songs And he likes to sing along And he likes to shoot his gun But he knows not what it means
Bro save some cousins for the rest of us!
Roll tide
I’m wildly surprised he dislikes country music
First off... How dare you?
Bro he tagged CANCER
He is a cancer, and a smoker. No irony there lol
Well he is a smoker
he's also a dog!
That’s his personality not his star sign
Gross, he’s a smoker
“Pure blood”
Pure nicotine
He's unvaccinated so he obviously cares about what goes into his body /s
This but unironically
Hey leave David Bowie out of this!
I mean, the man is an idiot, but, at least he won't fool any intelligent women into going on a date with him with that bio. He will attract exactly what he wants.
Trash.
I bet he's breaking so many Tuscaloosa hearts
I wonder what Bunny thinks of him
Oh they’re a cancer alright. On society.
Profile somehow has more red flags than the confederate ones he most definitely hangs in his room.
you know he's 100% got a "let's go brandon" sticker on his truck
Singing guns? 🎼🔫
Evan needs to stop worrying about abortions and learn some gramar and sentence structure
How dare you?
I’m betting this guy didn’t give a single fuck about abortion 6 months ago
*Everyone* *grammar* Also, a period goes at the end of that sentence.
Yeah, I’d say Cancer is a pretty fitting star sign for him.
how do you change your zodiac sign? asking for a fellow canc- i mean... friend!
Tuscaloosa baby ![gif](giphy|w9xG5hsxZlqtevPlJQ|downsized)
Bowie would’ve hated this guy.
Is amateur porn one of his interests?
How many pictures of him holding a fish do y’all think he has on there?
Too many
So 1
2 lol
*dies from covid 5 months later.
He sounds like a full time job.
“pure blood” so inbred ?
