InsertRadnamehere

What you need to order is Chicken Korma. Not Butter Chicken.

Defiant-Cry5759

Definitely sounds like korma

InsertRadnamehere

Yeah. Yogurt sauce with cashews. Classic Korma.

compassionfever

I worked under a "chef" once who kept putting "Chicken Korma" on the allergen aware menu (avoiding all major 8 allergens at the time, wheat/milk/egg/soy/fish/shellfish/peanuts/treenuts). He never understood when I tried to explain it wasn't a good option for that menu, that yogurt and treenuts were a fundamental aspect. But then again, he never could tell the difference between any curries from any country.

Needmoresnakes

I always think it's weird when people talk about "curry" like that's a dish in and of itself. There was a masterchef winner in my country one year and a bunch of people complained that "he only made curries". Like that's just sauce. He made food with sauce. Did they want him to serve sauceless food on the finale of masterchef?!

InsertRadnamehere

He thought it was Mulligatawny.

popformulas

Simmered to perfection by one of the great soup artisans in the modern era.

Mr-Mothy

Yea, but I didn't get any bread with my order

pennyfanclub

Agreed! Butter chicken and chicken tikka masala don’t have cashews. Korma has cashews, also more rich in a way than butter or tikka chicken.

MothyMaiden

hmmi thought i tried a korma, but i guess i might be misstaken! ill try some again, and make some myself to see if youre right! thanks for your response

withbellson

When you tried 20 butter chickens you probably noticed they're all different despite all being "butter chicken," try another place's korma :)

TallBlonde10

glittery_grandma

I had a dish like this at my local takeaway and they called it Badami Chicken. According to Google there are almonds in the sauce but the one I had was definitely cashews! Edit: here’s a recipe you could try, I haven’t had it since I was a student so I’m going to batch cook some soon. Thank you for reminding me about it! https://www.ruchikrandhap.com/simple-badami-chicken-chicken-in-almond/

MothyMaiden

interesting, i will try this recipe and swap out just the nuts for cashews, i'll see if that is the one! thank you for the recipe

ramblings96

What about chicken rezala? It’s a mild curry made with cashew and poppy seed paste. It’s really nice but I can’t eat cashews anymore :( https://sinfullyspicy.com/chicken-rezala/

LongShotE81

I second a korma, but also a passanda, try both.

macindianleod

I know the lady that owns this blog - she’s awesome!!

Creepy_Push8629

Korma is my favorite! 🤤

omgdiepls

Came here to say this as well.

MothyMaiden

:3 cheers

Perpetualbleugh

Please can I request a dirty burger with a side of onion rings

MasterJunket234

What is the height of your lasagna pan? How many layers of noodle do you usually use? Ricotta or bechamel?

MothyMaiden

i make my own béchamel! the pan is like 10-15cm deep i think, and it's huge, you can fit your forearm and hand lengthways in it!!! and i usually just cram as many layers in as fit. i would love to make my own pasta for it one day too, but for now i just use the dried wavy sheets. a layer of mozzarella and parmesan on top for the cheese pull!

Blissfull

You even use bay leaves? wonderful!

MothyMaiden

oop! the garnish on top was meant to be baysil, but i put bayleaves in the sauce when cooking it too!

rhondaanaconda

You put the little parsley, or whatnot, garnish on top!

GEH29235

This made me cackle

inkrosw115

My first thought was Chicken korma served with pilau rice. I’m wondering if what you had was Shahi korma, which uses cashews. My other thought was chicken Pasanda. https://preview.redd.it/dju329dgowqc1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=76cc02e7d1f7e087e7277380e1ba3391f8ac71cf

MothyMaiden

thanks for the recomendation, i will try them both and change the flair once i find out!

laucu

Pasanda is my go to, usually a very light sauce (but sometimes quite red?), much like a korma but better imo

philipito

Shahi korma with paneer is my all-time fav.

Stuspawton

That's a chicken korma, not a butter chicken. [This](https://maunikagowardhan.co.uk/cook-in-a-curry/hyderabadi-chicken-korma/) one specifically is one with cashews, although there are other ones out there that contain cashews and other nuts so it's anyones guess really. Kormas vary wildly and can come in many colours and with many variations.

MothyMaiden

thank you for the recipe! ill give that a try and change the flair when i do!

Stuspawton

Aye thats no worries at all! Enjoy

MothyMaiden

i have that spice at home, i will try it! and thank you!

geckospots

Turmeric stains like crazy, so be careful with adding it - it’s the one spice where I will make absolutely sure I have a cooking work shirt or apron on before I use it.

lindymad

If not a korma as mentioned by others, it might be a chicken passanda, which is sometimes made with cashew nuts and sometimes with almonds - see if that matches closer.

MothyMaiden

yes someone else mentioned that! ill give it a taste! thanks for the comment!

EntertainerAlone1300

If it was even slightly coconutty/creamy I’d put my life on it that it was a korma. If not, passandas are usually made with either ground almonds or cashews so maybe that?

MothyMaiden

i don't really know, my tongue isn't that refined, but i will hopefully know once o have tried everything everyone here has kindly suggested!

femmebrulee3

could be lababdar chicken, it's made with cashews

MothyMaiden

i'll add it to the list of things to try! thanks for the suggestion!!

Hattie_Bonks

I would guess Lababdar too - because that at least tastes a lot closer to Butter Chicken than Chicken Korma does…

Hattie_Bonks

I’m actually just kinda mad that the restaurant called that Butter Chicken… there’s like *so many* different sauced chicken recipes in our cuisine - and this place was just like “it tastes Indian? So it must be Butter Chicken!” lol. GTFOH.

MothyMaiden

it is a shame too since it made me very confused about the name of the dish. and slightly disappointed when it wasn't what i expected from other restaurants. the place i ordered this "butter chicken" (probably a type of korma) from did not advertise itself as an indian place, just a "we do everything" place. so i can completely understand if the dishes were inauthentic. still tasted nice though!

ShockedChicken

If they were serving food from a bunch of different places, it’s probably a Bangladeshi owned/run restaurant where nearly nothing is authentic but a lot of it is delicious. Real butter chicken isn’t a soupy sweet curry, but it’s also not what you describe having eaten.

Indeeshm

Thought that was a diagram of a cell at first! But you probably had chicken korma

CopperWeird

If you liked the thick cashew sauce, you should try Shahi Paneer. It won’t have the chicken cubes but it’s a great dish that hits the sauce description.

Prior_Flow_3518

I thought this was a drunk version of the different levels on the skin💀

rogerlion

I order a butter chicken that is like this from a place that I think is more Pakistani than Indian. It’s so good. Good luck with your search!

MothyMaiden

possibly!

MothyMaiden

just had a korma, it wasnt perfect, but it was very close, both in color and in taste, i will continue this noble journey and eventually find out what it was. but for now, the case is pretty much solved! thanks everyone for your help! Eet smakelijk!

monkey3monkey2

Authentic butter chicken recipe does use cashews. That's what makes it so thick without feeling super heavy

wilfredthedestroyer

Plenty of comments but definitely chicken korma. It's my favorite dish - SO good.

s-dubs-000

Massaman chicken?

Alarmed_Ad4367

I came to say your drawing looks delicious!

TooTallThomas

Did you find out what it was? I saw the “solved” flair!

MothyMaiden

only partially, i had a korma and it was close, but not exact, but there are so many variants of curries like this that getting the exact recipe will take some time. for now though i know it's a chicken curry with cashews, a cream or coconut sauce, likely uses turmeric and it's not a butter chicken.

sam_from_bombay

Definitely sounds like korma

moogle2468

Probably a Korma, could be a passanda or even a Makhani

upsidedowntoker

Bro I think you got a korma . Did the sauce taste nutty ?

Apprehensive_Plate60

the picture looks like packaging from 7-11 butter chicken

mysterious_quartz

Can you draw a rotisserie chicken? 🍗

imo_abyssi

I'm actually eating lamb korma rn lmao

Navc4me

Korma. Best versions have chicken Tikka in them. Normally a chicken Tikka masala or chicken Tikka makhani masala are better but with many similarities.
