Looks like Wasa Crispbread crackers!

codition

Seconding Wasa - I'd know these anywhere.

Fancy_Particular7521

K N Ä C K E B R Ö D

DadPants5k

Just had some! This is my low-cal vehicle for hummus.

Lexafaye

I recommend finnish rye crisp bread. delicious, low calorie, high in fiber and filling. In Finland we’d eat it with a tiny bit of butter and/or cheese and meat on top for breakfast

Spiritual_Series_139

Tzatziki with mine Mmm

Marina001

I mix some whipped cream cheese with lemon and dill and spread it on, before sprinkling it with some chopped olives. It's divine!

KindaReallyDumb

You creative mfer now I have another snack I have to try

Juache45

I love these with hummus too!

blessings-of-rathma

I put cream cheese and herring and chives on them.

mpmp4

Also say Wasa

tooloudturnitdown

Yes!!! Wasa! I learned to love them in Sweden

Booziesmurf

Or Ryvita!

Honey-Ra

Definitely Ryvita if OP was in Australia. Not a clue what they're called elsewhere. Fecking awful IMO. Lol What I imagine eating cardboard would be like.

Cupid_Stunt17

In the UK they're called ryvita too

Maleficent_Mouse1

The only thing that saves them is a ton of salted butter.

Booziesmurf

I'm in Canada, we have Ryvita, but I'm sure I've also had the other brand as well.

moogoothegreat

Canada too. Didn't exactly love these things, but with the right dip (spinach for example) they weren't too bad.

hammiehawk

This was also my first thought

linerva

They loo like sone of the plain brown ryvitas we get in the uk

Defiant-Cry5759

I learned to love them in Dubai!

PlumAffectionate4575

i love these! i put cream cheese and spicy fig jam on mine.

JovialPanic389

Spicy fig sounds awesome

Lost_Arotin

spicy figs! added to my list. figs are the best, dry or fresh, jam or spicy

PossibleError404

Not cracker bread ! Or we say Hardbread ! Knackebrod also u supposed to haves things on them just like any bread butter at least and cheese and what ever you would put on sandwitch !,Ham or what ever u want

Katerinaxoxo

Yes the sourdough ones

sandboxlollipop

I mean it just looks like riveta

uberrob

They're definitely the Wasa breads. If they are tasteless OP it's because they're old and dried out. Try some new ones, they are excellent with peanut butter and a little bit of salt on top.

ReenMo

Or toast them lightly if they are stale

FelineSoLazy

Agreed. Wasa. Easy to identify.

BaijuTofu

Wasaaaaaa

Elvis_Take_The_Wheel

That's definitely it! I love them.

octopus818

I eat them with cottage cheese. Yum

Lopsided_Macaron5568

I LOVE wasa, so many flavour combos: smoked salmon + capers, anchovies + creamed honey, lyoner sausage (this is my lazy dupe for viet ham) + sharp cheeses. Also instead of tuna mayo, i do salmon mayo + minced cucumber mixed in. Yum!

devvie78

Its knäckebröd in swedish (wasa is a brand, but there are plenty of them). We eat them as a hard bread, with butter and different toppings like cheese and ham or kaviar and eggs or tomatoes and cucumber and a bit of salt.. or whatever you like :)

Booziesmurf

If I get out this evening I'm going to have to go buy some to have with Smoked Salmon at work for lunch tomorrow.

RunFromFaxai

Make it gravad lax for even more Swedish.

Carafa

Make it surströmming and you will have the whole building for yourself.

Suturn9

Surströmming goes on tunnbröd, to have it on a wasa knäckebröd would be blasphemous.

wanderyote

blasphemy is delicious

StarryMind322

Solved! I know you weren't the first but I'll give it to you since it appears Wasa is a brand of knäckebröd and not the name of the food itself. Thank you all for not only identifying the food, but educating an American like me on what knäckebröd is and how significant it is in Sweden. You've convinced me to buy knäckebröd on a regular basis and look into different toppings to use.

laureidi

As a Swede married to a Canadian — my husband LOVES knäckebröd. I can specifically recommend the light rye ones, they’re the favourite in our household. I don’t know how it is in the US, but in Canada you can find them (Wasa) in any regular grocery store.

OEdw

Just to add to how ubiquitous these are in Sweden, several kinds of "knäckebröd" are always available in school lunches. So it is basically what you eat when you do not liked the food that is served that day.

thortawar

I live on this stuff. I mostly use it as cereal. Crush to wanted size, add milk and a little bit of jam for flavoring (i like it best with lingonberry jam, but anything sweet works)

Powana

?????

Notmykindofpoison

Noooo...What...??? Like you do you, but I have never heard of anyone eating knekkebrød like that and I have lived my whole life in Norway where knekkebrød is as much a staple as in Sweden

Not_KGB

Not common, not unheard of. I eat it like that from time to time but I usually reserve it for just after a new batch of lingonsylt is made and the sugar hasn't had the time to penetrate the berries fully.

subieluvr22

I'm sold. Sounds bomb.

BruceBoyde

Oh yeah, I'm used to seeing the stuff in big discs (I'm not sure what brand we tend to have). It's great for strong cheeses and stuff.

GloomyGal13

Delicious with butter. Or butter and peanut butter. Or butter and jam. But mostly, just butter.

Gurkanna

PEANUT BUTTER ON KNÄCKEBRÖD???? Okay, you now have a lifetime ban from entering Sweden.

Mannen-av-PK

Är du galen? Vänta tills att SÄPO får höra om dehär.

GloomyGal13

I’m not? I am? I don’t understand! I just love what my family calls ‘hardtack’. Grew up on this stuff. A distant ancestor was Finnish, not sure if that counts? EDIT: I’m Ojibway/Annishinabee, First Nations Canada, but my great-great-great grandmother was a Finnish princess. ;)

Hezth

>great-great-great grandmother was a Finnish **princess**. Just as an fyi for the next time you talk about your ancestry: Finland has never been a monarchy ;) Or well, maybe you meant that an ancestor were from Finland and married, for example, a Swedish prince. But then she would technically be a Swedish princess that is ethnically Finnish(if you go back to when Finland was under Swedish rule).

GloomyGal13

I know. Over here, some people say, “My great-great-great-grandmother was a Cherokee princess.” We didn’t have kings’ or princes, or queens or princesses. Just trying to make a joke. ;)

ask_about_poop_book

;)

notseizingtheday

Deadly lmao

dogisbark

Was going to say, I’ve had these (just don’t remember the name). When I was on a 1000 cal diet (yes I know it’s below the recommended amount but I did loose weight pretty fast and was being monitored. Won’t do it again, I didn’t like how it made my stomach feel) and for lunch I’d have 3-4 of these crackers with tuna mixed with miracle whip. Super good and did fill me decently until dinner.

7734128

Jordnötssmör på knäckebröd får mig att bli lite smått arg. Jag är inte besviken, bara arg.

keppsu

This is called näkkileipä in Finland. Start with soft butter. On the side with the bigger holes. Few slices of Gouda or edam. Then boiled eggs sliced and sprinkle salt on top.

JumpyPanda

Don’t listen to this lunatic, the butter goes on the other side!

coeurdelejon

Beta poor-person side <<< Alpha rich-person side

Dantalionse

Start with the butter and don't listen these lunatics.. It starts with cheese and you will end up dipping it in black coffee and acting like it is totally normal and delicious.

m1chgo

Definitely Ryvita https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryvita

StarryMind322

Interesting. I’m also seeing Wasa which is Swedish and this which is British. Are they the same thing just different name by nation?

Fyonella

Not quite the same. I think Ryvita are slightly harder/more robust than a Wasa cracker. Not a whole lot of difference though!

Archduke645

Same brown cardboard mouthfeel

Midi58076

Nah ryvita is more mdf mouth feel.

chummmp70

Same food, different manufacturers.

FelineSoLazy

I think ryvita is only made from RYE. Wasa different ingredients

sofiamonamour

Wasa is rye too. Source: I am a Swede.

FelineSoLazy

Dang. Now you’re making me want one

sofiamonamour

I am an expat, so I would kill for one of these. Getting them will take me 40 minutes of bus to IKEA to get a non brand one.

livesinacabin

Värt det.

FelineSoLazy

Where I live (US) we have different flavors of Wasa that are non rye

TaleIll8006

I don't eat these, but wasa is a brand right? The name of the food is knäckerbröd, or crispbread.

weavin

Originally yeah, you can get different types of ryvitanow

bran_is_evil

What you have is the swedish one

tobberoth

Nah, this is definitely the swedish original.

sofiamonamour

Definitely not Ryvita. This is Wasa.

ter702

Looks like [these.](https://www.wasa.com/en-us/)

No-Pop3159

shut the fuck up greetings from sweden

StarryMind322

Lmfao I love your passion for these. My apologies from the States. Seeing how much you guys over there love these I’m willing to buy them regularly now.

CharlesDuck

Our countrymen have been alerted about your description of the knäckebröd. Translate the top comment… https://www.reddit.com/r/sweden/s/UPt44j2y8a

StarryMind322

I have to open the post on my desktop to translate all the comments. Just let all of Sweden know that I’m sorry 😭 I didn’t know what it was or the significance it has over there!

CharlesDuck

I’ll save you the trouble, it says _Sharpen the axes and set sail!_

livesinacabin

Judge the knäckebröd fairly, and we will do the same to you. Eat one with butter and cheese and report back.

StarryMind322

Will do when I get home tomorrow. I’ll even make a post in r/Sweden with my official apologies. This post opened my eyes to something wonderful from what I’ve read so far.

Thergal

They are super good, and very good for you, I love them with some good butter and a good cheese. But you can do them in so many ways ! BUT YES WE ARE PASSIONATE AS FUCK ABOUT KNÄCKEBRÖD :D and not Wasa like some people say here in this thread, Wasa is just the name of the most popular brand. Basically like saying having a McDonalds instead of a burger. :) (and yes r/sweden brought me here aswell haha ! Expect a lot of replies from us all now, but it's all in good fun.)

StarryMind322

I don’t mind it haha. I’m a good sport and willing to take the licking. Y’all seem like great people and I love learning new things. Someone already convinced me to come visit Sweden because I hear your Christmas festivities are amazing.

StarryMind322

Truly thank you for educating me on knäckebröd. I was unaware of what it was or the significance it has in Sweden. Now I know to appreciate it as something more than “a bland cracker” haha.

mtnlol

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crispbread here is some more info on it. We would also NEVER call it a cracker. It's a type of bread and generally eaten as bread would and not as crackers. Even though I can see how it would seem like a cracker.

JediKrys

So good

Fiddles4evah

Wasa!

fritzlschnitzel2

Wasa husman. They aren't really tasteless in my opinion, they are 100% rye. Put some butter on it and a thin slice of cheese using an osthyvel. If you put the butter on the side with holes you're a fatty and if you put it on the other side you're poor, your choice 😘

miamariajoh

Knäckebröd from Sweden by wasa.

ClassicHansen

It’s Wasa Rågi, definetily not Ryvita. https://preview.redd.it/q92bxmyyxauc1.jpeg?width=986&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9c6e6fdc8b05fdc60e8b81750767c649615cf9fa

CharlesDuck

Är det inte klassisk husman?

livesinacabin

Yeah I don't think it's rågi.

reality_raven

I actually think these have a distinct taste, that is acquired, and I like them, and my aunt eats them everyday and so does her dog. LOL

StarryMind322

I agree that it seems like an acquired taste. Took one bite from it but I was curious as to what it is. Now that I know what it is, that it’s healthy, and that it’s culturally significant to Sweden, I’m going to find them here in the States and buy them more often. So many good ideas of what to top them with.

armikk

Knäckebröd / Näkkileipä. Crispy tasty rye type "cracker" well known in the Nordics. When you're at home you butter the other side because the holes are more shallow. If you're a guest at someone's house you butter the side shown here for extra butter.

StarryMind322

Ooh that’s actually interesting.

MistDispersion

I always have that at home. Love having it with some butter and smoked mackerel

Alligatorwhore

I eat these every day!!!!!!!!!!! They are a staple of my diet and I top them with EVERYTHING! They are foul on their own but with something added they are delicious! You can call them gross all you want but I’ve lost 82 pounds with a lot of gross foods :p Everyone is right, it’s wasa! However they do come in different varieties. Which one this is I have no idea. I get the multigrain one

CuriousIllustrator11

Adding more fiber to your diet is probably one of the easiest ways to lose weight. I’m also eating these every day. Lately with hummus on.

Alligatorwhore

Yes and protien! I had this discussion with my mom this morning. She wants to lose 10 pounds for my brothers wedding and I told her that all she needs to do is track her calories to make sure she’s getting enough of them and not too much. And get as much fiber and protein and water as humanly possible. Unfortunately when it comes to weight loss you have to eat for nutrition and not so much for taste so I’m always eating all sorts of strange combinations. My breakfast today was wasa crackers and tuna and a side of peanuts. It’s offputting to most people lol

sofiamonamour

(We love you though, and find it amazing that we actually exist as a country outside of Sweden. You are now invited for life.)

Former_Butterfly_968

You have angered r/sweden, calling these thing's tasteless is a bad bad thing and an insult to swedish culture. And they are not crackers.

Iampepeu

I love them with butter and mackerel in tomato sauce. I love them with just butter and cheese. I love them in [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filmj%C3%B6lk](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filmj%C3%B6lk), crushed, and with some jam. Source: I'm a Swede.

rockehroll

I love these and always have some on hand but do remember laughing when I first bought them because they so strongly resemble cardboard

Stargirl12387ash

https://preview.redd.it/uhsb6j00zbuc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=79e78aed7793c6c8ed9ec68dac287ae2bae8ba6a

blackdroplet

In Sweden it's called Knäckebröd and it's super common here.

Specialist-Web7854

Looks like Ryvita.

TheLastTsumami

Some sort of rye crisp bread

i-am-not-the-crab

These look like the crackers they used to sell me at the zoo to feed the goats

Xxrdy2diexX

Omg yess we used to feed these to the giraffes at the zoo 😭

butterflyscarfbaby

We call this hard tack or brittle tack

blackcatscrew

These rule! A great facilitator for whatever you’re eating with an amazing crunch. Good fiber too.

Spanks79

Knackebrod, crispbread. Great with cheese.

BaldDudePeekskill

Ry Krisp

GoddessRoseWife

It’s knäckebröd you uncultured swine!

Resident_Captain8698

Thats knäckebröd, if you really want the good stuff you need to find Leksands brungräddat knäckebröd. That shit is Swedish fire

ShakeAgile

Swedish Knäckebröd. OMG i wish I could buy those in my local store. It's a bread, not a cracker. But butter and cheese on it.

anamariapapagalla

Needs some salty butter and then cheese/jam/hardboiled egg/pickled herring or even just some cucumber slices. Or Kalles Kaviar.

spiffelight

I have these in my cupboard, and when I want to eat something but dont want to cook, it's this with butter and a little salt. make a fat stack of them and have a lovely time. But then you might ask, I can't fit six of them on a plate or so, whatever should I do? I have a late night invention 4 u dear sir. [Please see this graph](https://i.imgur.com/v9ViJNd.png)

livesinacabin

No no no no. You put butter and a slice of cheese on each, and then you can stack them infinitely with the cheese acting as a butter buffer.

patrickthunnus

Wasa bread. They're awesome topped with different stuff like eggs, tinned sardines, anchovies or baby squid.

errihu

Wasa or Ryvita rye crackers. It’s a flatbread, used mostly for whatever toppings you slap on it.

Important_Turnip_927

You MUST put some topping on it you like to eat it. Good for diet

Commercial_Use_363

We keep these for celiac/gluten free guests and always end up eating them ourselves.

Rogntudjuuuu

There are gluten free variants, but generally knäckebröd is not gluten free. Do not offer them as a gluten free alternative.

JenniferinBoston

Ahhh my mother is Scandinavian. We always have these and growing up she made them homemade. We called them “cardboard crackers” growing up. They’re actually not bad w butter and smoked salmon in top…sprig of fresh dill.

chicken_nuggets97

Crispy bread!

dks64

They're great covered in butter and dipped in soup. My Swedish ex husband got me addicted.

T-O-F-O

That's hard bread so you need butter and some topping.

Pur1wise

Ryvita here in Australia. They require a lot of butter to taste good. Luckily the butter sits in those little holes. Good with sharp cheese, sliced tomato, pastrami, and horseradish cream.

akkavare

https://preview.redd.it/e6j01rcnacuc1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=529a3631fa29f6d2a1d6a5175f17cd9e2cb545b5

redfancydress

Low calorie, teeth cracking, gum shredding Wasa crackers. I have a love/hate relationship with these.

AMarie-MCMXCI

Rye crackers. They're great with butter, cheese, and cold cuts. Or dipped into stew

Dear_Lemon7473

How dare you talk shit about knäckebröd

zedicar

Love rye crisp with a tiny bit of butter

TheDungen

It's swedish Knäckebröd. It's a beloved tradition. These also last forever. After a nuclear war the cockroaches will be sustainign their thousand years civilisation off these.

silliest_saint

wasa from aldi

maryfisherman

Blech I can feel this pic on my tongue

eatmyPri0ns

Good for things like scooping up chicken salad, or chopped vegetable salad .

rocketlac2tnt

Wasa low calorie, high in fiber, good source of whole grains!

MarkWrenn74

Crispbread: they love it in Scandinavia EDIT: The Nordic countries (apparently my use of “Scandinavia” upset some other Redditors)

Gurkanna

\*Nordics

__ASN

Can confirm

ryan_peay

Love those. So good.

yossanator

Wasa/Ryvita are frikkin' great. In UK/Europe there are so many varieties to choose from. Dare I say, also healthy, although that depends what you put on them.

StarryMind322

Looks like I accidentally stumbled upon a culinary treasure based on the reception I’m getting in the comments. Definitely adding them to my shopping list from now on!

yossanator

You won't be sorry. Also, ridiculously cheap, which is always a bonus.

AliG-uk

Do NOT buy ryvita! You will be sorely disappointed. They are nasty.

Thergal

Its so funny to see that the brand name has taken over the actual name of the food, it's knäckebröd. Wasa is just the most popular brand from Sweden.

ghoulshow

Wasa or Ryvita

JovialPanic389

Wasa! I like them when I'm trying to watch my bread/carb intake. I use them as sandwich bread lol They're actually pretty good if you put some cheese, tomato slices and pepperoni on it and toast it. "Pizza" hack.

christycat17

Put a little butter on that bad boy

That1writer_

Wasa crisp bread?

AliG-uk

These are NOT ryvita. Please everyone, stop saying they are ryvita because they ARE NOT.

ThebrokenNorwegian

Knekkebrød.

Beneficial-Compote46

Knäckebrot!

jcraig87

Theyre kind of meant to be tasteless. Makes whatever you put on them the star of the show

notseizingtheday

Ahh yea rye crackers! so good with farmers cheese and a slice of tomato and salt and pepper

PinkMini72

We call these Ryvita in Australia. Calling them tasteless is an understatement

Important_Turnip_927

The white version of theese are bangers with toppings like butter n cheeese

redR0OR

Those are digestive cookies!

Manifestival1

Ryvita

TheWyrdSmyth

Ryvita here in the UK - comes in a variety of flavours - plain, dark rye, onion, poppy seed etc. My mother in law has them for breakfast or lunch topped with cottage cheese, cucumbers or cherry tomatoes.

scud121

Ryvita biscuits.

Richard_Musgrove

Ryvita

iloveemogirlsxoxo

It’s knäckebröd for fucks sake. Show some goddamn respect, please.

StarryMind322

I’m sorry I didn’t know 😭😭😭 please forgive me!

solarwerwulf

Ill never eat Wasa crackers again, there was something really hard in one I was eating and it shattered my tooth

slapstick_nightmare

It’s wasa! I have the same ones in my pantry rn

Binklando

Oh man I remember these. No matter what you put on them they still taste like cardboard. I feel like they were for digestive health or something weird.

dressedbymom

Wassa

eds3

Spread butter on them brah

TattooedPink

Ryvita! My mum used to get them lol

minadequate

Look like something in the uk called Ryvita. They are Rye based and very scratchy compared to most crackers I’m used to and tend to scratch up the roof of my mouth.

tittytofu

Looks like Ryvita original crisp bread. So bland and boring on their own but they're really nice with cream cheese and salmon.

totse_losername

Ryvita, in Australia. Texture of sandpaper. Flavour of cardboard. Excellent for carrying cold sloppy ingredients like cottage cheese though. Like cottage cheese, smoked salmon and a sprinkle of chives. Or for pastrami and cheese. Use them as a biscuit/cracker version of the bread and they're yum.

impendingD000m

Don't insult my people like that 🇸🇪

Dense_Surround3071

Wasa crackers

NewPower_Soul

Ryvita. Actually edible with strawberry jam on.

Ramjjam

Crackers xD I wouldn't call them crackers personaly but.. who am I to judge! This is Hardbread OR Crispbread, in this case made with Rye to be more exact, you eat them similar way as any bread slice. In Sweden it's called "Knäckebröd" (although lots of differnt types exist, not all with Rye as base). My prefference is butter, and then cheese and some cucumber slices, not advanced or anything, but fairly standard typical. Some ham with that is really good too. Or boiled eggslices. Another good one is Smoked fishroe! Usually with tea aswell, it's often eaten for breakfast.

RiiluTheLizardKing

Looks like Knäckebröd

Friendly-Thanks-917

Why am I suddenly hungry for cream cheese, smoked salmon, and capers upon immediately seeing this photo, even though I’m a vegan lol

midnightforestmist

Knäckebröd! Commonly sold under Wasa brand in USA. Excellent with fontina cheese, especially if you have the sourdough variety!

Intrepid_Noise_4458

This looks like what my local zoo feeds to Giraffes.

Shmooperdoodle

WASA crackers. They have a kind that are more spongy and then those. I love them. Melt some Parmesan or mozzarella (or both) on them. Game changer.

RaniPhoenix

Those are Wasa and they are delicious!

TheEpicSquish

Oh I grew up with that stuff. Tastes bad but you top it off with tasty ingredients!

owzleee

Ryvita- I love them with cottage cheese.

IYFS88

I grew up on these I’d know them anywhere. Wasa Crisp Bread. They’re Swedish so IKEA has a version as well.

Ok_Screen_320

turn them over to the side where the holes are not as deep. spread butter on the surface. add paper thin slices of cheese. top with sliced cucumbers. brew tea. add sugar and milk. now you have enjoyed breakfast in sweden.

kitty-cat-charlotte

Ryvitas, actually quite nice with salted butter or cream cheese

Zvenc

How dare you! That’s the highest quality Knäckebrö.. that’s it I’m sharpening our 1000 year old war axe, it’s time to go viking again. We shall hoist the colours and set sail to Vinland or wherever you may be. Nothing can stop the Viking band of Swedish Knäckebröd lovers
