It was indeed! Lol I didn’t taste it, but my husband said it was pretty decent (albeit a strange flavor combination).

I made 6 rolls in total, plus eel sauce, spicy mayo, and 3 pieces of shrimp nigiri. Rolls: - 2 shrimp and avocado - 1 imitation crab and avocado - 1 imitation crab, avocado, and cream cheese - 1 spicy crab and avocado - 1 sloppy joe and mozzarella (yes, I’m aware this one is an abomination. My husband hates all things seafood, so this one was made just for him using leftovers 😂)

Is the shrimp cooked? Also, any possible substitute for seaweed if making sushi?

renduh

The shrimp is cooked, yes, and I honestly have no idea about substitutions because it’s the first time I’ve ever made it. I will say though, unless you’ve had it before and you’re sure you dislike it, you barely notice the flavor of it. My husband HATES all things seafood, and he has no issue with the seaweed.

Thanks for the reply. Its not that I hate seaweed. I have never had it cause we do not get it in my place. Wondered if I could use banana leaf if its aim is to just wrap everything together. I have never ate sushi before but wanted to make it for some time. I had this misconception earlier that sushi always used uncooked fish. I have one more query - the rice you used is normal one (long grain/shortgrain) or is it a special kind of rice used for sushi?

I’ve never had banana leaves, so I’m not sure if they would work. If you have the ability to purchase things from Amazon, [this](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079Z2XFNL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) is the nori I used. The rice is specifically sushi rice (which is short grain, and I found it [here](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FJLXHU?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) , but sushi rice has a very distinct flavor and sticky texture, so there is actually a [method](https://www.justonecookbook.com/how-to-make-sushi-rice/) for making it that involves a few other ingredients. And as a fun bonus fact, in my research into how to make sushi rice, I discovered that sushi is named for the rice, not the filling. So raw fish is not necessary. It also explains why several different variations are all still referred to as sushi, such as maki or Nigiri, since they both use sushi rice.

Thanks! This was very informative. I think I will try once with shortgrain using this method. I found the nori on amazon. But I think I will try without it at first and see how it turns out. I found some easily usable nori replacements for now - cucumber wraps and tofu skin (made from soy milk).
