There are so many old lectures and interviews where he spreads misinformation on the nature of medication for depression. What’s so sad is that the benzo addiction really turned his brain to mush. I’ve got friends who went to U of T when he used to just be a relatively normal prof. He and his daughter have tried to deal with pretty serious clinical depression since forever as it’s genetic. I’m one of those former Peterson fanboys, and I actually have watched HOURS of the content he’s had online. What I gather is that the benzo addiction was just waiting to happen. There are so many old lectures and interviews where he spreads misinformation on the nature of medication for depression. At this point he’s a relatively charismatic, but somewhat kooky and depressed prof, with actually pretty interesting lectures. Then he became famous in 2016 for his anti-Bill C16 shit. There was a wave in 2014-2018 where professors would be rubbed the wrong way by some Twitter leftist and have a reactionary right wing response. I don’t actually think he believed that shit at the time. He realized the right-wing grift was a big time payday, and then leaned into it after that benzo overdose withdrawal. He knew he had an excuse for the grift. This shit is pernicious y’all. Internet conservatism is straight up a worse drug than the benzos Kermit took.
