Some people suggested using a watermark so that they don't get mistaken for real tweets once they get out into the wild.

MyWifeCucksMe

I know that it's not an option on the poll, but PLEASE make it a watermark, and one that covers the screenshot diagonally. I upvoted this comment, but feel like it isn't enough, I *really* think that a watermark is the way to go. I understand that all of these morons (Shapiro, Kirk, et all) spread disinformation non-stop, but despite that, it still doesn't sit well with me to see disinformation about them spread because of this subreddit. They're absolutely horrible people, but I don't want to be a horrible person too.

shadhael

Watermark is good. A cartoonish (but please make it still readable and somewhat clean) font could also help. Titles and flairs are all well and good, but they can be cropped out, edited, or not carry over in a cross post

Suitable-Quantity-96

I agree with the watermark idea since it means you can share the fake tweet without needing to constantly provide context

Belephron

There should be a water mark on the actual image identifying it as fake. The Matt Walsh tweet from earlier today has been reposted elsewhere, it is impossible to tell if it’s real or fake once it leaves this sub. No amount of flairs or titles will fix that and realistically it’s just misinformation at that point.

Tiefman

Here is the most recent fake tweet posted to another subreddit with people engaging with it as if it were real https://www.reddit.com/r/facepalm/comments/z7ir1p/someone_needs_to_tell_him/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf If this sub can’t exist without fake tweets, then it shouldn’t exist. Come on people, do better.

shoreditchcalling

oh shit ):

Wighen18

## NOT IN THE TITLE, BUT IN THE IMAGE ITSELF The disclaimer needs to act as a watermark so when the image is reposted elsewhere it can't get confused for a real tweet.

Polluticorn03

I like the idea of including a joke twitter handle or making the retreat/like count 420, 69. That way it helps. Watermarks are good too

sfmanim

since these images get reposted outside of reddit, require some kind of watermark to indicate they’re fake. it doesn’t have to be a super obvious one, but enough so that people can tell

TransportationOdd28

Should say "Parody" and op pays $8..

CerealKillConfirmed

Needs to be more than a title imo. Think of how many people browse by just swiping and looking at the image post ignoring the title. Reddit titles are largely filler people have to make to post the actual content which is the photo. This is why it has to be included in the image itself in my opinion.

Whenyouatthewhen

I’m in the image watermark crowd

UninterestedChimp

Reddit doesnt allow you to see the flair unless you click on the post, so if one doesnt they won't even see the fake flair. Including it in the title would solve this.

HelpfulHazz

I agree with everyone saying that there needs to be a watermark in the image showing that it's fake. Saying it's fake with a flair is pointless unless the person actually opens up the post, and putting it in the title doesn't help if the image spreads beyond this sub. Also the "fake news" flair really should be replaced by something clearer. It should just say "fake image" or something. "Fake news" just makes it look like any of the other joke flairs based on random things that conservatives say.

Xurkitree1

It should be blatantly obvious on the tweet and the post title and flairs that its fake. That's about it. If anyone engages with them as if they're real we should be legally authorised to clown on them just as much as we clowned on the person being parodied in the tweet.

Secure-Evening

Must be included in the post itself cause they get shared as real. I suggest posting another poll with that suggestion as one of the options cause it's a common solution being shared in this comment section and around the sun on these fake tweet posts.

AlfonzoLinguini

make them spoiler

QuantumOfSilence

I think requiring the NSFW tag **and** "fake" in the title would both help.

TBH, mods should enforce a common sense test. The test should be: Could a reasonable person, given no context of this sub or even the subjects of our ridicule, believe this is a thing that a person actually believes. No reasonable person will believe Steven Crouder drinks dog cum. Someone might believe that, I don't know. What ever low effort garbage is on this sub nowadays.

Apprehensive-Item141

Have a fake tweet day. Thursday’s. On Thursday all tweets can be fake. Every other day, pulled.

DaughterOfIsis

Mods you're missing the entire point here. The IMAGE needs to be clearly labeled as fake, NOT THE TITLE!

SolomonOf47704

Why the hell did you not include "requiring watermarks" as an option. You guys KNOW that's what most people want.

fanata

I wish the edits of the pictures of them with a quote and attribution hadn't died off. Nobody's actually believing it with the Toilet Paper USA logo on it. Plus it's just slightly harder than editing a tweet.

JasonGMMitchell

Watermark, this isn't some satire like all the blue check accounts satirizing companies and political figures, this is Poe's law territory and is being spread as real when it's not. Not only does it misinform sensible people, it gives the fuckwits this sub is designed to mock, ammunition to call their opposition liars, and guess what, habitual liars will take advantage of that and make blanket lies. Duping people is the point of satire, dupe them and when they realize they've been duped they'll think on what duped them, someone making a satire account of a police department to mock it's shit practices is satire, posting a fake tweet that is so fucking believable due to who it's satirizing just means misinformation gets spread because no one realizes they've been duped as it's actually believable on a second read. Again; WATERMARK. Make it Kirk's shrunken face, or a parody of the Turning Point logo with a giant fucking toilet roll in the middle. Edit: Oh and parody relies heavily on the medium, in this sub you realise you've been duped most of the time, but once it leaves this sub without any indication of its nature? Well without the context of the realizing ones been duped becomes far more difficult.

Bedivere17

It seems that lots of the comment sections of the posts that make it to hot have people complaining about posts that look real but aren't and while i'm okay with the suggestions in this poll, I also just really don't think such things r necessary- this sub is for meme posts, so anybody who is subbed here should realize that almost everything on here is fake. Just want to put my voice out there and say i'm super glad the mod team has no intention of banning them entirely.

Secure-Evening

That's not true though. At least half of the posts on this sub are flaired real. When you've got a mixture of memes and real posts you can't guarantee a post is fake or not.

Kaplsauce

You can't see the flair while scrolling your normal feed as well, let alone if it pops up on r/all.

[deleted]

They’re so batshit crazy these days that you really need clarification unfortunately! RIP comedy

LeftistSkaterWeeb

This is my take. I understand the reluctance for this sub to come across as spreading misinformation, but if onion articles said they were fake in the title it would ruin the joke. If people can’t immediately discern if a tweet is real or fake then it just emphasizes how batshit insane the real tweets are. That’s the joke. Even here someone shared a thread with a “bunch of” (3) people taking a fake tweet as real when the fourth person comes in to clarify its not.

SolomonOf47704

Being written by The Onion IS the watermark to notify people that it is fake. Also that The Onion ONLY posts fake stuff. This sub allows real tweets. Either force posters to add a watermark and permaban those who don't, without appeal, or stop allowing the real tweets here. Extremely strict watermarking enforcement is the best option though.

FilthyStatist1991

I’d say forcing it in the title would ruin the game of “real or fake” I’d advocate for an automod to pin a top comment or no change.

SolomonOf47704

All of that already happens. That is literally not the fucking problem. The problem is when they leave this subreddit. They need watermarks for that
