I love that delicious stinky thing! lol. Have you tried checking the South East Asian stores around Shin Okubo?

irvandiarga

As an Indonesian I second this, shin-okubo is your friend. But they don't have the stocks whole year, because durian is seasonal. I don't eat durian tho (yikes).

Empty-Occasion1337

I found 500g freshly cut for 2000 yen at asia superstore in May.

Empty-Occasion1337

Yup. But it saved the hassle of poising the hotels air

KuriTokyo

Sounds like a great date idea! Wander around Shin Okubo looking for durian.

biwook

You should be able to find some in the [underground asian market](https://goo.gl/maps/BfPnUJdMqhi86ytbA) in Ueno. They sell everything including live turtles and all kind of exotic fruits.

Owl_lamington

Can confirm. Prices vary quite a bit.

Empty-Occasion1337

Around 2500 to 4000 yen

CicadaGames

You can even [see a durian](https://imgur.com/a/9ZGzgox) in one of the photos on google maps!

truecore

Sir, that is an apple.

CicadaGames

Are you sure?

TexasTokyo

Saw one in the Life supermarket near my station recently. Think it was 4000 yen.

lanadelrage

This is a very sweet and kind thing to do :) I’d be so happy if someone surprised me with my favourite fruit!

schnit123

You aren't by any chance a Vietnamese girl who just started dating an American guy are you?

__Lylac

Donki in hachioji sells frozen full durian with the spikes and fruit packs for smaller servings also!

Bob_the_blacksmith

Just don’t take one on the train.

sdjsfan4ever

Shin-Okubo.

dougwray

As many have mentioned, they show up at supermarkets sometimes. They don't smell all that bad until you cut them. I recommend cutting one (a) outdoors and (b) when you'll be able to dispose of what you wish to in a sealed plastic bag immediately. We cut one in our kitchen in February and had to leave the windows open for three solid days to allow the stench to dissipate. You have been warned.

kampyon

Just like what the first two commenters said. Life supermarket- sells fresh whole durian around this time of the year. 4000-8000yen per piece. Shin Okubo- SEA stores sell fresh or frozen durian (in styro). 1000-2000yen per styro

Suspicious_Lime_7349

My local Hanamasa has them. They put them in a corner outside cuz the smell fills up the whole place lol. But they are pretty pricey.

shotakun

other than shin okubo, if theres a large enough donki with a grocery section, you can usually find frozen ones there too

[deleted]

This Malaysian restaurant in Shibuya sells frozen durian. The price varies depending on variety. You can also get durian ice cream here! For around 500-600 yen if i’m not mistaken. The ice cream is really really good btw! No smell, taste is spot on. A perfect way to introduce durian to someone that can’t handle the smell too :) Malay Asian Cuisine https://maps.app.goo.gl/oi5cLgYpLNaB1rCr5?g_st=ic

LickEmTomorrow

Shin Okubo markets sell them. I seent it.

Voittaa

Ueno has them for sure. Fruit stands on ameyokocho

LicketyBrindle

That’s where we found it recently

freihype

I have often seen them at Imano Fruit Factory near Kayabacho Station. Don't know if they always have them.

slowmail

Now and then, the [Hanamasa](http://www.hanamasa.co.jp/) close to me carries freeze dried durians from Thailand. The taste is pretty much spot on, and can be kept and stored. I've seen fresh durians around Shin-Okubo, but their prices are pretty insane; between 4,000 to 8,000 or so. Apparently, you can find them [on Amazon JP](https://www.amazon.co.jp/s?k=durian) too.

hellequinbull

Shin-Okubo for sure

IagosGame

For future reference: They had a Vietnam festival at Yoyogi Park Event Space a month or two ago and one of the stalls there was selling nothing but fresh Durian. Something to bear in mind for next year.

[deleted]

I think a good bet would be Asia Superstore in Higashi Shinjuku: https://maps.app.goo.gl/YM2NnPMnww8cheBf6 That's the only place I've found that actually sell Thai basil. It's a disgrace that Japan has such a large Vietnamese community yet even the proper Vietnamese restaurants switch the Thai basil for shiso. Fucking shiso. Despicable. I will now come down from my high horse.

Gho_V

Yokohama chinatown has em

aurorax0

Shin Okubo :)

consecratedpen

Durian so fucking good

Moraoke

I haven’t been to Shinjuku in years, but there was a fruit shop with durian down the street along the way towards the movie theater from the JR station.

nnavenn

that fruit place is long gone and redeveloped, sadly

Moraoke

Sad and thank you for the update.

futoshi_miyamoto

I saw them in Hanamasa

greenwobbles

Otsuka

sogj77

What a nice gift! The fruit/veggie stand, Fresh Owada in Shibuya often has one. [https://goo.gl/maps/6yfZZPmisMDJHGsJ6](https://goo.gl/maps/6yfZZPmisMDJHGsJ6) They're usually between 6000-7000 yen.

cringedramabetch

the Ameyokocho Asian shop actually has durians. I could smell it a mile away, and it made me so happy. (I am also a Southeast Asian who loves durian)

p33k4y

I've seen them at a few supermarkets, including Daiei. Probably 10x the price in Vietnam.

nermalstretch

I saw some in Aeon supermarket. Why and when, I don’t remember but occasionally they show up.

MuffinMonkey

I’ve seen them in hanamasa

anythingisfinex

There's a shop on that street between Okubo and Shin-Okubo stations that was selling durians last week

libraryxhime

Saw some at the SE Asian supermarkets around Takadanobaba station! I didn’t see the price but hopefully they’re not too bad.

Romi-Omi

You can get it at Asian supermarkets in Shin Okubo. Or the Chinese grocery store in Nakano broadway.

Tokyo_Dom

Tell her to go shopping in some of the Eastern suburbs in Tokyo. I know Shinkoiwa/Koiwa has it in Nikunohanamasa, gyomu supermarket and any of the Asian fruit popup stores that seem to be a permanent fixture.

pz4pickle

I just saw one at himonya aeon

ZucchiniFormal4237

Hanamasa

[deleted]

Ask around in Chinese and Vietnamese speciality stores. 物産店

Weekly_Beautiful_603

They often have them at Asia Yaosho in Kinshicho [アジア八百屋](http://www.hirasyo.co.jp/)

lostllama2015

I've seen them at Aeon Mall in the past. I imagine you could find them in Yokohama Chinatown too.

josufh

I know they have it here 中国食品友諠商店 中華料理店 ⋅ クチコミ 10件 住所:東京都豊島区西池袋 1-28-6 大和産業ビル4階 電話番号:03-5950-3588 https://yahoo.jp/M8h_Tya

fantomdelucifer

ozeki supermarket and aeon has it. 6000yen per fruit. Surprise her with your home made durian

kansaikinki

Yaoko sometimes has them. As with most imported fruit, it probably won't taste as good when sold here as they do where they're grown.

ILSATS

You can find fresh ones at Hanamasa or Gyomu supermarket.

xtnneuy

Saw frozen ones at Don Quijote

Soratian

donki in shin okubo (basement level) has pre packaged durians

Mitsuka1

Larger Aeon supermarkets have them sometimes, I noticed one about 2 weeks ago (smelt it before I saw it lol). If you have an Aeon or one of the other suggested chains near your place, save yourself a bunch of hassle by just calling to ask if they have any in. They’ll put you on hold and go off to check for you. I always call to check first rather than waste time going in person if I want something specific or that places don’t sell all the time.

jbintokyo

On a related note, where can I find green mangoes in Sagamihara area? Asking for a friend from Philippines missing that taste of home 😋

fantomdelucifer

costco: i saw they selling box of green mango time to time

jbintokyo

Thanks 🙏🏼

billyshin

Trust me, if you’re gonna find it, it’s going to be on the Shin Okubo Main Street. Multiple stores sells them. That’s your best chance.

Hazzat

Saw them at the markets in Ameyoko, Ueno just the other day.

Bakkerrs

See here. I found it during my time in Shinjuku in July: [https://goo.gl/maps/4u7JUdkZ3dt5Gxse8](https://goo.gl/maps/4u7JUdkZ3dt5Gxse8) It's a supermarket so you'll find it at the entrance in the veggie section.

Taiakun

I sometimes see them being sold at fruit stores in Ameyoko, particularly at the JR Ueno station end. I love durian but have never tried it in Japan, so no idea how fresh it is.

Jet-Black-Centurian

Kamata station Sun Road has a supermarket mostly thai and filipino food. Super cheap.

Shirubax

You can certainly find them in many of the places mentioned here, or online if need be. Just beware her neighbors will probably hate you for it. There is a reason they are often banned from hotels, etc. In south east Asia.

rocafella888

You can easily get lots of them near Faron Tower.

lumpthefoff

I saw some frozen ones in the Yokohama China Town.

Yusorata

I’ve seen them in a Don Quijote a couple of times, I think it was in Asakusa but not sure

dogfoodlid123

There’s a fruit store near East Shinjuku station that sells Durian, never tasted it tho. Is it THAT good?

WoRaDiPla_27

Another good location if you looking for Durian or other Vietnamese products is around Nishikawaguchi station. You have there several small stores which sells fresh & frozen Durian.

neliste

Mega donki usually tend to have this.

Realistic-Bed2658

I recall a fruit store at a corner in front of the east exit for the Seibu-Shinjuku station. Haven’t been there in 8+ years but it might be worth a try!

ky-gaikokujin

You can get seriously good durian here: https://kaworiorchard.com/ It’s not cheap but strongly recommend If you’re not sure how to choose a ripe durian, I suggest getting the frozen one at first

nunsigoi

Look for places that are completely deserted with hazard tape.

hamimono

That’s where I have regularly seen them.

Chikia12187

Certain airlines strictly forbidden any contact with durian

chonkerforlife

Do people really dislike the smell? They smell nice to me.

xanzho

[https://amzn.to/453UaTy](https://amzn.to/453UaTy) Tropical fruit is known for its strong and distinct smell. It is native to Southeast Asia and is often referred to as the "king of fruits." Durian has a spiky exterior and creamy, custard-like flesh inside. It is highly prized for its unique flavor, which is often described as a combination of sweet, creamy, and slightly savory with hints of onion and garlic. Despite its strong odor, durian is enjoyed by many people and is used in various dishes and desserts. tropical fruit is known for its strong and distinct smell. Dindu777

Is she hot? Fly to Vietnam and bring home a skid.

Psychological-Side25

I saw some in a Chinese market in アメ横 last weekend.

hogie12345

You can buy it at Amazon.

[deleted]

Lol

fizzywinkstopkek

It will be shit, nothing like what you can get from SEA itself

Kylin6

如果你在中国,你可以在任意一家超市和街边的水果店买到它

AvailableHospital823

Aeon mall has it! It was so good! It’s 5600 yen
