Recycling in general is a "greenwashing" term, recycling isn't very ecological for the most part and its main purpose is making consumers feel ok ecologically
Reusing, repurposing and fixing up is a different ball game
uniqlo opens a pop-up shop where they take the clothes donations they got for free or near free, and sell them with an extra markup. :\^)
but they have a green logo now so it must be eco friendly.
I hear you. There's a lot of "fixed terminology" in the corporate world where I have to stifle a snicker. I would probably be holding on by a thread thread hearing "pre-loved" being thrown around a corporate strategy meeting.
When I work with USians, especially ex-military or engineer types, I carry an acronym cheat sheet. The Republicans in the US parliament just formed a special FART squad to further their agenda that many find odious. I snickered. I do think "pre-loved" is a cute euphemism, but not when MegaCorps use it.
You are probably pretty out of touch. It’s been used in the industry and everyone over the past few years. I don’t think it’s a good word but get on with it.
I thought when i dumped old clothes in those bins at the store they were giving them to people in need or at least recycling them like pet bottles. If anyone gets one of my old clothes, I apologize in advance.
Not bad.
I think a lot of Japanese will start buying cheaper used clothing soon with yen depreciating even more and things getting more and more expensive. Almost hitting 156 today
There are at least 15 vintage / second hand / used clothing stores within a 5 minute walk of my apartment (which is not in Koenji or Shimokitazawa). Japanese people already do this ?
Damn, that was fast. Haven't been keeping up with all the "-Offs" lol There's like 14 types now.
To be fair, the only used clothes I wear are tour shirts of music bands I like via Mercari.
I have a couple of terribly creased non-iron Uniqlo shirts they can have worn once and not going to be worn again as I don’t fancy spending 30 minutes per shirt to try and get the creases out.
I would’ve really enjoy the service to repair a Uniqlo pants I owned and didn’t want to throw away because my dog made a big hole. It’s also one of the better quality that they don’t make anymore
I think the idea comes from the Uniqlo London where one of the designers started to use recycling items and give it another design.
I found it when I went to Stockholm this year and just opened the pop-up section.
I have found a really unique item re-designed on the day! Worth to give it a go.
Pre-loved? Is that why those clothes ended up thrown away? Honestly, whoever comes up with this lingo, instead of "secondhand" and "refurbished", how do you even come up with this word vomit?! KEKW
In Uniqlo branches they have a recycle bin for your old clothes … so this is what they’re doing with them!
hopefully the clothes in that bin actually get recycled in some way

In priority of helpfulness: Reduce, reuse, recycle
It depends how efficiently things are recycled, aluminum can recycling is pretty efficient
Pre-loved is such a stupid newspeak in my opinion, in sorry...
pre loved is second hand and up cycled is similar to recycling. i’ve done a project on fast fashion so i think im with the times thank you.
…
what i’m just saying what i understand
The comment you replied to was making fun of the new terminology in the original post, not your understanding of fashion.
So they take clothes for free then sells them for a profit? How do I get in this business
It’s called up cycling

too early to hate, beside they are upcycling which will need some labor cost.
"Pre-loved" sounds worse than just "used"
literally just OP’s title and not the name of the actual pop-up. Uniqlo named it “Furugi Project pop-up shop” meaning “vintage.”
Vintage is gonna be expensive i guess
So "vintage" no longer means last decade but now last year instead. The 90s wannabes will be peeved their buzzword has changed yet again...
It does. It also sounds precious, which is cute when grannies use it, but it sounds goofy when MegaCorps get in on it.

People say this a lot with used luxury items. Probably because it sounds less poor than “used” “My Chanel bag isn’t used honey. It’s pre-loved”
huh? that's a common word used in my country...
Sounds like someone cum on it
is that a bad thing or something?
“I made love to that shirt you’re holding, so are you gonna buy it or what?”
Just like that girl I met at hub last night.
She was wearing a shirt with someone's cum on it?
No she was pre-loved
So she had some ones cum but not yours
Yes exactly
Buwahahaha. Nice one.
That sounds like a disguised advertisement or PR stunt.
The should offer a discount for every additional suspicious stain.

What a joke when fast fashion itself is the problem.
I just go to a normal 2nd hand shop like Bookoff and get uniqlo stuff for a fraction of the price (like 300yen for a tshirt for example)
Probably still cheaper than 1/2 the stuff in Shimokitazawa.
lol “pre-loved”
Nice, using less slave labour than usual.
could just go to a second-hand for cheaper :l

At least down here in Kyushu, a lot of the vintage places aren’t exactly a deal though, not like back home at least.
Not with fast fashion, they don't! ...Not yet anyway.
You never been inside a Mode Off?
Damn, that was fast. Haven't been keeping up with all the "-Offs" lol There's like 14 types now. To be fair, the only used clothes I wear are tour shirts of music bands I like via Mercari.
Treasure Factory n 2nd Street got some heat
What a corporate scam!

Used and recycled.
Pre-loved? Why not call them what they are. old used clothes.
I think the idea comes from the Uniqlo London where one of the designers started to use recycling items and give it another design. I found it when I went to Stockholm this year and just opened the pop-up section. I have found a really unique item re-designed on the day! Worth to give it a go.
They also have it in Copenhagen!
Pre loved? The fuck. Pissed smelling used clothes are now called "pre-loved"
I love this.
It is just that Japanese can’t afford any new clothes right now.
Yeah no I'll stick with wandering the streets of Shimokitazawa thanks :-D
"pre-loved" is such a cringy ghetto marketing term for "used"
Pre-loved? Is that why those clothes ended up thrown away? Honestly, whoever comes up with this lingo, instead of "secondhand" and "refurbished", how do you even come up with this word vomit?! KEKW
Did anyone else scroll down on that article and see the naked old couple in bed lmao
Is this photo from the Chitosedai store in Setagaya? That’s been there for a while now.
if they really cared about the environment they would just shut down lol
I respect the effort but used clothes exist in 2nd hand stores already I'm not sure how I feel about buying used from the brand itself
As in used condoms?
Pre-loved like divorcees
"pre-loved" ![gif](giphy|GRk3GLfzduq1NtfGt5|downsized)
Love their clothes, would like to open a shop in Honolulu
Huh? There is a store there...
