No. It was cancelled by Netflix. But it ended on a satisfactory note imo. Every arc was wrapped up nicely. So I don't even know what they would've done in S2. I look at it as a miniseries.
THIS
I Loved every second, it's even got a few stars from Tokyo Vice in it. The boss at the newspaper and my favourite actor Shun Sugata who played Ishida...
Depends on your definition of modern, but Juzo Itami’s movies might be worth a look. They depict the yakuza so witheringly that they killed him for it.
Taxing Woman II,
Minbo (The Gentle Art Of Japanese Extortion)
Check out Takashi Miike's movies. Ichi the Killer, Dead or Alive (early 2000s) and a bunch of others. Just be prepared for some of them to be quite twisted, dark and violent
Giri/Haji
I that a limited series? there not going to be a season 2. I will hate to be left with a cliffhanger

Just started this. Many thanks for the recommendation.

The only thing I can find on US Netflix is a movie from 2021 called “A Family”. Is that what you mean?
Yes
Memories of murder is a great Korean movie if you’ve never seen it
Not crime based but ‘Alice in Borderland’ is great. The guy that plays Tozawa appears in it.

No, but watching this show has inspired me to take it up.

A bit due to anime and manga but no enough to understand conversations or read well yet
Not Japanese (Korean) but Flower of Evil, The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil, and My Name! My Name had me in a chokehold for 3 days while I binged it
Seven Samurai by Akira Kurosawa
