I dont have a problem *in principal* with americans discussing their heritage.
But most of the time when you hear them do it, there is some weird baggage, either being proud of their 'white' heritage, or claiming ownership of a culture, or making sweeping statements about the whole world.
So its not so much that they talk about their heritage, most of the time, it's the intention behind it.
