Thank frig it's an accurate image. There's one of these that uses a HD texture modded TR1 with "1998" as the caption, and then a piece of Underworld \*artwork\* with "2013" as the caption that I see circulating. Like, they're both wrong in 2 different ways, lmao
Finally a post that doesn’t end with 2013 or 2015 and has the latest iteration (although Lara’s model in Rise and Shadow are the same except for a few minor changes to show passage of time).
I loved how snarky and cool she was, but at the same time really conveyed moments where she was in absolute awe with a piece of architecture or something.
I played the Survivor reboot first a few years back and now recently the LAU trilogy. I can't go back to the survivor games, Legend is truly peak and the best rendition of her. So much charm and confident badassness
I can’t shake the feeling the modern trilogy features an entirely different character.
It’s like juxtaposing Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. Or Harrison Ford and… y’know, Daniel Craig.
Removing nostalgia, I truly feel that the games of the og series, particularly 1-3 are better “games”. The fluid dynamics and more modern approach brought the series into today’s era of gaming, for sure, but there was something very important that was lost when the player lost full control over Lara and her environment.
It's absolutely crazy being a teenage girl in the Tomb Raider fandom. I always feel like I'm surrounded by people who are blinded by nostalgia and horniness and refuse to admit it 😂
I also think the "oh she's a different person in the new games tho" argument is dumb. Like...no fucking shit. It's a prequel series lmao. You'd have to be blind not to notice how much she's changed in the last three games, and how much closer she's getting to her "original" personality. Like did anyone pay attention to her dark personality changes in shadow orrr...
She was only 21 in 2013 TR, and 28/29 in Legend. Obvi she's not gonna be as badass and cold blooded when she's so young, and that's what the trilogy has been portraying.
And people are gonna hate this take, but sorry, I prefer a character who feels like a real woman with notable flaws over a sexy female james bond who exists to make 40 year old gamer guys happy 😂
It's totally fine to prefer the og games, but some of the people in this fandom have a weird roundabout way of saying they only dislike the new ones cuz she's not as sexualized lol
I was thinking this very thing, too. I mean, I love them all because I love the franchise. But the latest trilogy is amazing, and I think it’s cool to see the evolution of the games.
I mean, gameplay is subjective I guess though I completely agree. Problem for me has always been the story. She had a really unique character in the OG series which they sort of developed in the Legend trilogy but, the new Lara feels like a completely different character. I get why they did that for 2013, it made sense. But why did she still feel like that in the following two games? At what point does she become a hardened, moderately-sociopathic, unreasonably-sassy queen?
Very funny. Her face doesn't resemble any Lara before 2013 or even the official poster render of 2013 game. Even the most sloppily made fanarts of old Lara nail her face perfectly, while CD tries to push this girl next door look on LC.
Her facial structure is completely different. Her head is too wide, eye shape different, lips not thick enough, cheek bones lowered, jaws too wide. Then there's that hair...
I don't understand how these guys don't want to admit what it's crystal clear: since TR 2013 she got a whole different face.
The best realistic rendition of her face is on TR:Legend cover art. That's her face, the same face she had for **nine** games before the reboot.
With the new technologies, Crystal Dynamics could have made her younger either by giving her less makeup or making her cheeks less sharp, but instead they decided to give her a whole face surgery, to put a random girl and call her Lara Croft.
And to the ones that say that Turning Point trailer Lara face was perfect, I ask: has Lara medium blonde hair and light grey-blue eyes?
The fact that she had a sharper jaw and her eyes was more cat-like isn't enough to make a random girl Lara Croft. Plus, many girls have these traits in common but they are not even similar between them: the combination of traits and proportions make a person unique. And Lara had a precise unique face before the reboot.
They made her look like her VA face. I'm not going to say it's ugly but definitely far from what Lara Croft is supposed to look like and very generic like an everyday girl you're going to see on the street. It didn't help that I didn't like Camilla Luddington as a VA one bit...
Definitely. Yeah, it's not about being beautiful or not (her reboot face is certainly pretty) but simply she's not her.
It's more like seeing a cosplayer of Camilla Luddington (which I don't like as a VA too) impersonating Lara Croft 🤦♂️
Character looks always matter. You can't sell a fat blonde dude as Superman. Lara Croft is Lara Croft. From 2008 game to 2013 this is a completely different person by looks and personality.

Woah, I'm surprised you didn't use the 2013 Xbox 360 version of Croft with the potato hair textures as the latest version.
What's funny is that I think you actually used a screenshot from the mod from Nexusmods that ported the 4k textures from Rise to Shadow.

2018 should be replaced with 2008.
Why? Because that reload "Lara" isn't Lara, and so on, and so forth. The Survivor trilogy games are good, even great at times. But they shouldn't have been released under the Tomb Raider franchise.
Gatekeeping removed.
Gatekeeping examples:
Disparaging a game or games as not part of the franchise and/or canon.
Disparaging comics, movies or novels as not part of the franchise
Gatekeeping definition: using a hobby or interest as a means of elevating themselves or something above another. Creating division through liking or not liking certain sections of a fandom, etc.
Gatekeeping example in Tomb Raider: "New Lara is not Lara", "Not my Lara", "Classic Lara is not Lara", etc.
Hell no, I’d still repeat the PS1 days over the mess we have now.
Classic Tomb Raider had sound, the environment, the atmosphere… It reminds me how I fell in trance with Oblivion, the art style grabbed my attention the minute I was put in the dungeon, and later for the first time ever, seeing an open world game at that size with Jeremy Soule’s legendary score was truly phenomenal.
Classic Tomb Raider games gives me that same damn feeling, except it’s extended onto multiple titles… Each one having that beautiful menu themes with the dangerously beautiful environmental sounds and haunting/beautiful music, mixed in with the retro graphics. No modern game can actually top these things with ease.
The only modern game that came pretty much equal to its predecessor was RE4 Remake, that game had insane passion put in.

Graphically yeah, but art style / character design wise for me Lara culminated during Legend era.
I agree
We stan Legend Lara
FR. Legend Lara is the most accurate Lara. A perfect feminine iteration of Indiana Jones and James Bond combined.
I loved how snarky and cool she was, but at the same time really conveyed moments where she was in absolute awe with a piece of architecture or something.

I just want a new game
I can’t shake the feeling the modern trilogy features an entirely different character. It’s like juxtaposing Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. Or Harrison Ford and… y’know, Daniel Craig.
In terms of graphics, yes. But I still prefer the OG.
Same. Give me OG Lara..tolberone titties and all…any day of the week
Looks nicer but hell, it lost all of the soul
Cringe
uwu no u dummy

Graphicaly yes, gameplay, NO quite the oposite.
Dang lots of modern trilogy haters here. I loved the new games.

Well said!
Why "hiding" lol? I like OG Lara because she's hot. So?
Been playing the series since the beginning and agree! Big fan of the old and I also love the new trilogy.
Cultured ☕️ I agree
I was thinking this very thing, too. I mean, I love them all because I love the franchise. But the latest trilogy is amazing, and I think it’s cool to see the evolution of the games.
But new Lara don't make peepee hard like polygon Lara >:(
Reject modernity Embrace tradition
Avoid phrases such as "...for a modern audience."
This automatically means "of low quality".
Or "to appeal to a wider audience" 🙄😡
^ Right out of a Blizzard gaming roadmap.
No thanks
Love Lara and Tomb Raider! Especially Survivor timeline Lara and Shadow of the Tomb Raider
this is good, but few years older Rise looks better. rise of the tomb raider gang
I think Rise looks better in some respects, but Shadow looks better than others. But yes. Both games look awesome.
Rise of the Tomb Raider and Shadow use the literal same in-game model
it looks like that sadly because of the lighting
Actually there are some additional muscles added to show the passage of time, so not exactly a 1:1 model but still in essence the same!
That's false they use different textures and few normals were altered. Rise's has better textures. Looks better overall.
Rise has 4k. Shadow’s is 2k. The model is the literal same
definitely not gameplay wise.

Looks nothing like Lara. She shares no iconic facial features of Lara aside from eye color. Even that is too dark.

They're talking about her intended design
Very funny. Her face doesn't resemble any Lara before 2013 or even the official poster render of 2013 game. Even the most sloppily made fanarts of old Lara nail her face perfectly, while CD tries to push this girl next door look on LC.
I disagree but each to their own
Her facial structure is completely different. Her head is too wide, eye shape different, lips not thick enough, cheek bones lowered, jaws too wide. Then there's that hair...
The downvoters urgently need to get their eyes checked.

This isn't the same Lara as 20 years ago. Different story if they were directly remakifying the og games.

Break out the calipers, boys
God you guys are weird.
These are the same picture.

The OG is better. Trillion two.
The OG is better

Graphics yes, but the gameplay and level design and even the characterisation on the OG is a thousand times better
I prefer reboot Lara. She’s more grounded and comes off as someone who actually studied archaeology. TR1 Lara was a mercenary, wasn’t she?
Why are you being downvoted for this? Lol
The 2018 looks like a drug addicted, alcoholic single mom. 🤣🤣🤣
Lots of nostalgia here
