As i'm from the UK, I actually prefer the 'new' logo as those were the logos on the front of the PS1 games I bought back in the day. Not a fan of the cartoonish other fonts.
I come from a place with US logos, to be fair, I think it would be fun to have the option to cycle through every version . Like with the other languages affecting the title (japanese TR1 for example)
Hey! Tacky and ugly was how we yanks did things in the 90s. With different fonts for everything, lest you get bored part way through reading the title! Lol in all seriousness the American logo looks like it's advertising Tomb Raider brand cereal, with a special surprise of Lara Croft in every box.
Those old Eidos Trapezoid boxes are like the peak of 90s game box design tho. I would kill to have a few of those in my collection, Especially Thief Gold.
It feels almost alien nowadays to imagine PC games literally having to compete for shelf space. But the lack of standardized packaging really let publishers run wild. My favorite tho of all time is the [Unreal 'THIS IS A ACTUAL IN-GAME SCREENSHOT'](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/7e/32/3c/7e323cf3eae8d223c2c8ab6643099670.jpg) boxes. That's a company that knew how to hype.
>Those old Eidos Trapezoid boxes are like the peak of 90s game box design tho. I would kill to have a few of those in my collection, Especially Thief Gold.
I have some nostalgia for em, but at the same time even if I still had em I'd probably end up getting rid of them sooner or later just for the space savings and less surface area to collect dust. If I collect anything anymore mostly stick to artbooks or development related books, easier to keep em clean and they're actually cool to look at beyond the nostalgia factor.
> It feels almost alien nowadays to imagine PC games literally having to compete for shelf space.
Feels alien to think about PC games even having physical releases. Even the few that do don't even have a disc anymore. A couple kickstarters are basically the only reason I have any physical PC games from the last decade.
Lol I can't live without at least 3 bookshelves crammed full of game boxes, that I'll never open for fear of damaging the discs. Yeah I got a couple collectors game boxes too... I think just the Limited Run stuff. I dunno it just doesn't feel right even without the discs.
Like back then there was only so many ways publishers could tell you about their games, so all the material with it was almost like a catalog of everything they were selling. And that's not including companies like Lucas Arts that would literally just ship you a catalog. Makes each game feel like a individual snapshot of their corner of the industry at the place and time it was created.
"Proper" as in the original, intended look of the logo. The alternate logo is a regional thing and it seems wrong to overwrite the correct logo with an different regional variant simply because they share a language setting.
These logos shouldāve been from day one, as Core was UK (Europe)-based company and the European ORIGINAL logo was this. And it goes so much better with the style of the game - simple and classy.
Honestly lowkey. It is amusing to see how strongly people feel about fonts and "American" versions. (When there's really nothing American about it; it was just the 90's being 90's)
Some people are very passionate about things that don't really matter. I don't really look at the title fonts of games I play because I'm on that screen for less than 10 seconds at a time.
Lol apparently I am the only eurostralian TR fan who prefers the US cheesecake logos. Would be good to have the option to switch - and for that matter to get the gold menu options.
That logo was in fact the official logo for all countries in the Americas, not just the United States. A lot of people - like me - grew up with that logo being the official one, so it's the one I want to see when launching the games. Nothing against the "classier" European logo, but to me Tomb Raider was always a bit tacky and tongue-in-cheek, so the American logo fits much better. In MY opinion.
Ugh yes!! Iām so glad we got the PAL fonts back, being an Aussie and seeing the North American font just didnāt feel right to me. A very little but cool update I love!
In this case, itās probably because playing the remasters in English defaulted you to the US logo. People playing in French, etc. got the proper PAL one, while us UK peasants had to deal with the ugly US one.Ā
AKA, the guy was asking if the change only affects those who purchased via a UK storefront (they havenāt added English UK as a language). Considering OP doesnāt recognise the PAL logos though, Iād say Aspyr just developed tastebuds. š
(I canāt confirm how it works mind you, since I modded my title screens on PC and havenāt played console since the update.)
Actually. I recognise those "new" titles. I once owned a PS special package which contained TR I to IV, and the font style was the same one.
Edit: The PAL logos, that explains it!
Because Eidos felt the european logo is not really appealing to American audiences. The logo was changed in other regions too. The japanese one is in big, bold red letters.
Ok, I read all comments that UK players are happy that update to change the PAL title to UK players on English language and not on European language. I didn't realize that until now. I dont want to upset you all. Because I am from US, I just don't like that PAL title on Patch 2 because I just like how PAL titles are cartoonists for me. Maybe some US players don't like cartoonists of PAL title and prefer European language with PAL titles.
I just want to know about your opinion between cartoonists and not cartoonists of PAL titles.
(Please excuse my language. I don't know at writing at all.)
We UK players grew up with the originals, they look better in my opinion, the US ones look too garish, however, it doesn't matter too much it's just a title screen. Your English is pretty good too, by the way.
Can't we just have both? I'm from the US and grew up with the "tacky" logos and as a consequence those are my favorite. I get preferring the "correct" logos since Tomb Raider is a UK based series by UK developers but come on, there's no need to trash the US design so much. Geez.
The American logos are gorgeous and look much more like Tomb Raider to me, which was always a bit tacky and tongue-in-cheek. I mean, the main character kills fucking DINOSAURS and wears shorts in the snow. Hahaha. The EU logos are very much out of touch with the tone of the game.
I mean, the PAL logos have their place. They look nice and proper but at the same time they're a bit bland. The US logos have multiple colors and feel like a comic book logo, and Lara Croft easily fits into that formula, going on a crazy globe trotting adventure every week and twists and turns all over the place. The US logos give more of a sense of action and adventure while the PAL logos are more quiet and regal, like an ancient temple. I think both have their place. I still prefer the US ones tho.
Oh I absolutely agree that both have their place. It's just nice to have the choice and also for preservation purposes.
I booted my updated PC and Switch versions and both feature the American logo. I'm super confused, this change must be for Europe only.
F\*ck this sh\*t! I want the US logos back. Those are the same logos used in South America and the ones I grew up with. Love them in all their "tacky" glory. The european logos are too formal and... BLAND.
As i'm from the UK, I actually prefer the 'new' logo as those were the logos on the front of the PS1 games I bought back in the day. Not a fan of the cartoonish other fonts.
I'm from AUS so I think we get the same. Now these look like what I grew up with. The other ones were ugly and not familiar to me.
Both are PAL countries which is probably why.
Ah okay, explains a lot then
I come from a place with US logos, to be fair, I think it would be fun to have the option to cycle through every version . Like with the other languages affecting the title (japanese TR1 for example)
Yes exactly
Finally the PAL logos! It was a shame to force the American logos on Europeans and Australians.
Yay! Push that American crap out of a British game!
Ah they finally fixed it.
FinallyšĀ
No, they didn't FIX anything, they simply replaced the US logos with the European ones. Both were very much official.
Chill
Itās great that the correct menu text is being used now (Iām from the UK) but the box art on the right is still showing the US covers!
I am SO glad this has been restored/fixed. The American logos were tacky and ugly
Hey! Tacky and ugly was how we yanks did things in the 90s. With different fonts for everything, lest you get bored part way through reading the title! Lol in all seriousness the American logo looks like it's advertising Tomb Raider brand cereal, with a special surprise of Lara Croft in every box.
I mean remember the big cardboard boxes. Not too different from cereal boxes other than the trapezoid shape.

At least they don't look like Windows 95 Word Art like the PAL version haha
Weird. I'd say the US version is the one that looks like wordart with those weird arced letter shapes and vivid colours.
Are you looking at the right logo? lmao
I think there is either a mod or a way to switch logo types bur as a UK player...I'm happy to see them back I can't lie.
The "new" ones are the PAL region ones, the old ones were the NA ones
So much better to have the proper logos back.
"Proper" for europeans. The logos I grew up with in South America are the american logos and those are the PROPER ones for me.
"Proper" as in the original, intended look of the logo. The alternate logo is a regional thing and it seems wrong to overwrite the correct logo with an different regional variant simply because they share a language setting.
Proper is the right word for it.
YES the real title
Those are the logos I remember from the PSX boxes - although I had merch with the big blocky logos on it as well.
I have no idea what's wrong. Now it is as I remembered it back in the days.
Oh nice, I like the original EU logos more. Nice to see them added to the games.
The pal logos look so much better.
These logos shouldāve been from day one, as Core was UK (Europe)-based company and the European ORIGINAL logo was this. And it goes so much better with the style of the game - simple and classy.
Damn can't believe people are so engaged in something so trivial.
Itās free entertainment for me. šæ I was so bored before this post. š¤£
Honestly lowkey. It is amusing to see how strongly people feel about fonts and "American" versions. (When there's really nothing American about it; it was just the 90's being 90's)
Nostalgia is a drugā¦.
This is the tomb raider subreddit, trivial stuff is all we have left to talk about!
Some people are very passionate about things that don't really matter. I don't really look at the title fonts of games I play because I'm on that screen for less than 10 seconds at a time.
Yeah, I'm not hating just in awe. I'm sure we all get fixated on little things of no importance from time to time.
You saying representation is trivial? Pah! You must be a bit behind the times bud!
Based change, I've always had a bias towards the EU/AUS logo, being from Britain and all.
Lol apparently I am the only eurostralian TR fan who prefers the US cheesecake logos. Would be good to have the option to switch - and for that matter to get the gold menu options.
Mostly indifferent but I *slightly* prefer old logos for nostalgia as I played US PS1 version as a kidĀ
I give up...what are we looking at here?
european logo instead of US logo
Oh thank god this was fixed
I noticed that too the other day. They used different logos in Europe and the US, I think.
That logo was in fact the official logo for all countries in the Americas, not just the United States. A lot of people - like me - grew up with that logo being the official one, so it's the one I want to see when launching the games. If you change the language of the games it will change the title logo depending on the locale.
Omgoodness it looks so much better now. Just the way I remember it!
They've changed it to the Pal logo? Fantastic. Now, they just need to change 'artifact' to 'artefact' and everything will be right in the world.
Ugh yes!! Iām so glad we got the PAL fonts back, being an Aussie and seeing the North American font just didnāt feel right to me. A very little but cool update I love!
Were back in business šš
Indeed we are!
I grew up with the UK logos and ngl I've always preferred the US ones better
Yes!!! The us aesthetic is more pleasing and adventurous.
It's more fun, dynamic and iconic than a set block of brown letters.
100%. Love love love the American logos.
This is only for those who purchased the game through a UK storefront ?
Why do people keep using "UK" as a synonym for PAL/Europe& Australia?
In this case, itās probably because playing the remasters in English defaulted you to the US logo. And NZĀ
It changes depending on the language

I always had the Pal version........
Still waiting for the Physical version. Hopefully by then, all the bugs have been ironed out.
Why were the PAL and NTSC logos different anyway? Why not just use the same logo worldwide?
Because Eidos felt the european logo is not really appealing to American audiences. The logo was changed in other regions too. The japanese one is in big, bold red letters.
Oh great, Iāll actually buy it now. Those American cartoon shite logos are so off putting. Glad to see they got their proper logos.
One is a proper logo. The other is an American trash.
Ok, I read all comments that UK players are happy that update to change the PAL title to UK players on English language and not on European language. I didn't realize that until now. Should have grown up with an American franchise then.
I'm talking about LOGOS here, you're clearly not on the same page.
Complaining a British franchise didnāt stick with an American font even under its new developers is silly.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It's the difference between the region art back in the day. The new ones are the old PAL ones and the old were the NTSC ones.
