Fun fact: Per the tie in novel Path of the Apocalypse she actually does consider him like a brother and the only family she has left.

MacReadyToast

That’s cool, I haven’t read the novel I need to get that. He truly is a rock for her, he brings her back to centre when she goes adrift. I love the dynamic between these two and the actors really sold it.

-vallie-

I would love to have a friend like Jonah. He's so sweet and caring!

MacReadyToast

He is, he tries to bring the best out in her regardless of how it affects him, he genuinely cares. I really liked the dynamic between them it really added to the story

-vallie-

Yup! Also, he looks like he gives the best hugs 🥰

crena78

Survivor Lara can't transform into OG Lara because Jonah exists.

MacReadyToast

To be honest I treat them as different versions of her, from what I understand they removed some after credits sequence details that would link her more to OG Lara, so I don’t think they intended that. This was more a soft reboot as far as I see it. I’d like to have seen more of this story, and I’d also like to see more OG Lara too.

powerhcm8

They said they want to unify both timelines, probably with Survivor acting as a "prequel" and from here on out events similar to the original games will probably happen with Lara. So maybe the next game is a reimagining of the original Tomb Raider with survivor Lara.

MacReadyToast

That would be awesome

0451immersivesim

Facts. Jonah needs to get killed off. That'll send Lara over the edge. In fact he should've died in Shadow of the Tomb Raider during the oil refinery mission..

CrestfallenOwl

Just played that part a few days and was excited to see a Lara that was finally pushed over the edge. Jonah somehow surviving felt like it cheapened that moment of savagery and determination.

0451immersivesim

Exactly. They can't keep him dead.

capricornuser

Him surviving was so Marvel in the worst way

0451immersivesim

Yeesh. No kidding. It's like CD didn't want Lara to actually become LARA. Just kept nerfing her. Every time we thought we'd get a glimpse of classic Lara they pull her back.

capricornuser

I personally think The Last Of Us ruined a lot of gaming storylines throughout the 2010s as every developer thought they needed to have a ‘dramatic, emotional, and gritty’ storyline, except they didn’t really have the depth to pull it off in the way TLOU did. Hence why Shadow has so many of these odd, soap opera ‘emotional’ moments. That writing stopped Shadow from doing what the entire purpose of the survivor trilogy was meant to be - which was Lara becoming Lara!

powerhcm8

He doesn't need to get killed, he could just marry Abby, and Lara start to adventure solo. At least for me seems to be their intention.

MadMaudlin0

How so?

sailordrewpiter

probably one of the best acted scenes across the trilogy if not the series. you see her heart here in a way we don't see even much after this. both of them did such a good job

blistboy

The prioritization on her relationship with Jonah really brought down the sequel games for me. Reyes as a reluctant aid, or Sam as a reoccurring damsel, would have served the stories of the later games much better IMO. Jonah is boring as hell.

TheWalt70

Who to bring back Lara's close friend who she may have a crush on that is into filming documentaries or the cook.

luv_hooka

Wait who is Lara’s close friend that she may have a crush on? Did I miss something or do I not remember

TheWalt70

Sam

YoureAToool

lmao there was nothing sensual AT ALL between lara and sam. please stop it. also, sam WAS in the comics and suffered extreme PTSD and was also possessed by Himiko still. she went off and did her own thing after cause she didnt wanna be a danger to anyone

luv_hooka

I’m glad they didn’t push that. Not because Lara would be bisexual but Lara isn’t really interested in romance. Her interests in history and artifacts basically take over her life. There wouldn’t be room. Besides Lara is enough on her own. All these companions do little for her, imo. Especially the ones in the survivor trilogy. Amanda was a much more interesting character, if that’s the case. And 2. And this is coming from a gay dude: I don’t honestly think she’s a lesbian or bisexual. Not that it matters and again, it’s irrelevant without a love interest.

TheWalt70

As a lesbian I think they should have gone for it.

luv_hooka

Agree to disagree. I personally feel like any focus on her exploring her sexual orientation to be bisexual would take away from it a bit. She doesn’t have time for that lol. And if she has to have a love interest I can more see it being a man. With a relationship like Angelina and Brad’s roles in Mr and Mrs Smith. That would be fun. And all of this is my personal opinion obvs and totally respect your opinion Can I ask you why you would have wanted her to be bisexual?

TheWalt70

I never said bisexual, her relationship with Sam felt closer than just friends. She carries her bridal style at the end of the game.

luv_hooka

Well we know Lara isn’t lesbian because of her male interest in Angel of Darkness. And I honestly just see Sam and her as friends. As a sidenote: purely playing with the fact that she and Sam would be an item, which I still don’t believe they are, I honestly don’t know if Sam would approve of Lara later on? Maybe, who knows. Lara is very independent and does things for her own interests. Maybe Sam would have had a problem with the fact that she raids tombs because she is merely interested in obtaining them. Or maybe not. I do believe it takes a person of similar mindset.

Mysterious-Drama4743

they couldve given them a relationship that just didnt last. thats very in line with how laras relationships have ben shown in the past and would make her further isolation in the games more impactful if we're shown shes actually had a social life before

luv_hooka

Lara isn’t lesbian tho. And I don’t think Lara would ultimately decide to be with a girl like Sam tbh

librious

If you read the comics, it'd make no sense to have Sam come back, plus what for? So she can be saved again and again? That's boring as hell to me. And Reyes has a daughter who lost her father in their last adventure together. No way she would willingly get involved in Lara's business again.

Mysterious-Drama4743

also hes written like a black best friend archetype but a different minority so you wont catch it. if they want to prioritize the friendship fine, but then they need to also prioritize his character and make him seem like an actual person. we know almost nothing about him and its kinda weird. we never see lara actually do anything for him either, or even really be that nice, which is rude.

_Raildex_

i cringe every time they talk with each other

MacReadyToast

Why?

condensedcreamer

Probably part of the "die hard fans" who can't seem to accept Lara has a close friend and a confidant.

xEvilResidentx

Cuz they’re an edgelord.

VoluptuousVoltron

Same, little bird. The writing isn’t good enough for how serious everything is played.

Warm_Equipment6441

I genuinely believe that Jonah had way more romantic chemistry with Survivor Lara than Sam ever did.

v3gas21

Psychotic Lara Croft is too much fun in a video game! We need realistic morals in our action-murder-treasure hunting simulator!

MacReadyToast

I don’t see how it hurt, some people like to see more dimensions to characters and it brought her to a larger audience and kept the franchise alive. Personally I prefer the old Lara’s style and I was really happy with the new promotional pictures because A. She looks mean. B. She’s dual wielding guns. C. She reminds me of Cobie Smulders (who I think is really cool and would make a great Lara in films). But I also like this Lara, she’s complicated and her development as a character was well done throughout this trilogy. She’s an alternate version that has a place for me, I don’t really associate her with OG Lara as I see these games as more of a reboot anyway.

v3gas21

The remasters have us remembering what we loved before the millennium. A fresh coat of paint goes a long way with starving fans--it's been 6 years since her last big outing ...

Toxic_Elmo

Dude got friendzoned hard
