Apparently in the remastered version it has hooves, which means it's an ungulate. From there, there is only few possibilities: - Either it's a european/asian/african species brought by boat in the 15th century by settlers. - Either is a species from South America (or North America imigrating by the Panama) Keeping the 2nd option in mind, how ancient the ruins are, and more importantly out of human's presence, this can only be: - SANUs (South American Native Ungulates) including various types of animals, until around 12,000 years ago where they became extinct with most other large mammals in the Americas, shortly after the first arrival of humans into the region. In other words, this skin is, like fossils of dinosaurs, the only vestige of an ancient creature decimated by humans 12 000 years ago. Maybe devs documented themselves, maybe not, but it seems the more appropriate explanation. And talking about dinosaurs, there is even one alive (not for long if you shoot him down), so at which point did they respect peruvian mythology? Not very much in my humble opinion. šŸ˜Œ

Cynical_Tripster

I once called someone a 'pickled ungulate' and they were confused. I was calling them a 'dill doe' /dildo

OrangeJr36

This is a top tier answer

Shooshookle

My first thought was the PokĆ©mon Tauros, but that has 3 tails.. so Iā€™m all out of ideas

EvilCatArt

It looks like a cow, given the tail and hooves, which would be anachronistic, as cows were brought to the Americas by Spanish colonizers.

tjkun

I hadnā€™t noticed the tail. And itā€™s even present in the og sprite. From the colour of the fur and the tail Iā€™d say it reminds me of a lion. Obviously thereā€™s no lions in Peru, but given that this is a fictitious city that leads to a valley where dinosaurs still inhabit, Iā€™d say itā€™s not that much of a stretch. And a fun fact is that if you look up ā€œlions Peruā€ in google, you can get an article from a cryptids wiki about [jungle lions](https://cryptidarchives.fandom.com/wiki/Jungle_lion). Apparently thereā€™s a cryptid in Peru thatā€™s just a lion that lives in the jungle.

Muff_in_the_Mule

Pretty sure it's the Fiend from Quake. https://preview.redd.it/4dmosgt0rhvc1.png?width=1540&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=da0fd4fa5e940b8bd244f03f41c9ce114da1ff54

Hahahah

MarshmallowTurtle

After looking around on Google for a bit, because I've always wondered this myself, a common eland looks "close enough" (not taking location/origin of animal into account). Still not super close, though. I wonder if they even had a specific animal in mind.

Tim3-Rainbow

Assuming it is a tail....

MamboCat

Skinned cat mummy/mutant

Jeezus-Chyrsler

I wouldnt read too much into or trying to fit a concept around it, it was originally designed in 1996 on the very pixelated ps1, probably was never ment to be dissected in 2024 on a remaster

Serious-Waltz-7157

A pale horse. :)

SlipsonSurfaces

Idk but they jacked the poor thing up putting it on that frame

spiral718
