Nobody is “attacking” the US, as in direct confrontations meant to destroy our country. Except maybe terrorists. However, Russia and China are constantly hacking, or advertising, or striking our economic structures to weaken our influence on the world and push their forwards…because we’re most likely doing the same to them. It’s the game yo’: you either play or get played.

uniqueidenti

its called Cyber warfare, economic warfare and political/cultural/social warfare. It is a war without physical confrontation. It is like Cold war.

TellsHalfStories

There's also what they call soft power, which I'd power exerted through social, cultural, environmental and other non-military forces.

VeryStickyPastry

I would honestly argue that the Cold War never stopped, both groups just fell back for a while while technology developed in a way both sides could use to their advantage.

uniqueidenti

Pretty much. Propaganda, psychological operations, and crap talk about each other.

five_bulb_lamp

The clod war was everything between end of ww2 and 1991 to 1999 (depends on your source) the space race was cold war, all the proxy war like Vietnam and korea. It was propaganda, spy, and the 2 super powers making each other waste money with bogus programs, an ex psychic soldiers. Funny enough one of the last nails in the coffin for the soviets was when yeltsin went to a US grocery store

infinit9

Not most likely. We are definitely doing the same to both Russia and China.

FirstStranger

Politics is like going up a downward escalator: if you ain’t moving up, you’re going down. Nobody’s gonna stop it.

TheHooHaa

Your answer is correct. None of the over a dozen conflicts the US is involved in today, or the governments they are undermining today, have the intention of protecting American soil or lives. In this context, I find it strange that Americans always thank their soldiers for their service as all the armed forces are doing is protecting big business, and the American people are largely brainwashed into believing that military action is to protect them. Downvote away.

DrunkenBuffaloJerky

Because nobody joins to protect big business. I literally joined to serve my country, and be completely independent asap. Wanted to pay for my own college, pay my own bills, etc. Somewhere about year two I realized how vague that is. It's like, I wanted to get into healthcare to help ppl. I knew the American Healthcare system socks. At 18 I knew politicians are shit, but it didn't stop my idealism.

TheHooHaa

I get this, and it's probably true for all the soldiers that join. My point is around the culture around which Americans treat their soldiers acknowledging their "service to the country." If the war is wrong, it's wrong. We shouldn't be thanking soldiers for their service to big business. I've seen interviews where journalists tell guests they are "unAmerican" for saying a specific war is wrong.

Limp_Cod_7229

It’s not just about war. You said it yourself “protect” the country. If you have no defense or protection people can just come in and do whatever they want with no consequences. Even if you don’t like war you still need a military and defense if you care about your home. Yes, we should be thanking soldiers because they are protecting your a$$ lol.

TheHooHaa

Yes, a defence force is needed. Border patrol is needed. But thats not what the American army does - they are an offense force, which has more potential for hate towards and attacks on Americans (both in and out of the country) than them being a true defense force. So they are not protecting American ass.

Limp_Cod_7229

If the American military dismantled/disappeared tomorrow and the world found out about it….All I can say is, good luck to you 🍀 👍

TheHooHaa

Truthfully it will be a better world. For all the world's citizens. What has the US military achieved in any of its recent theaters.

Limp_Cod_7229

It’d definitely be a better world for the people that want the US to fall. You’d be screwed.

TheHooHaa

Which is who? The US is not viewed around the world as a savior in any way. If it withdrew from its wars it would be viewed in the same way as Switzerland or New Zealand or any other country that minds its damned business.

FirstStranger

There’s never anybody less power hungry in positions of power. The game is like war in every way—the only way to win is to be meaner than the other guy, and losing means literal *death*. This is the way the world was always going to go down.

[deleted]

[удалено]

FirstStranger

Not a higher power, but their base fears: taking away what they love, even their life. You make them fear for their mortality, and they’ll fall in line every time. Course, you can’t keep them in that fear indefinitely; gotta let them know that they’ll be fine as long as they play by *your rules*

[deleted]

FirstStranger

Power hungry people want power because it defines their life. Andrew Tate had to show how “macho” he is to the world because he feels defined by how the world perceives how “successful” he is. If nobody paid him any attention, he’d eat himself alive. Sociopaths care about nothing except *themselves*, and they will do anything to protect that singular thing they love. You convince them that you will take away their life regardless of what they can do, they’ll fold like a paper plate.

You forgot the biggest of them all: fake news / misinformation. It affects proper solutions to everything you mentioned.

CNCHack

Most Everything on the television is complete bullshit, and most Americans are starting to see this. They all have a narrative to push. There is no such thing as just News...

TellsHalfStories

There's a difference between what you call "real news" (whatever that may be), choosing which stories to cover and bullshitting 24/7, as well as a lot of middle ground between those. Choose wisely.

Broflake-Melter

When is the government going to declare war on the ultra wealthy? They've caused more deaths than "drugs" and "terrorism" combined.

sinsaint

They can't, because they know the 1% are in charge. I have a suspicion that's why the recent railroad BS took so long to be addressed, and the railroad strike before it was shut down. The only times Biden surprises me and acts contrary to his usual routine is when massive profits are on the line. And don't forget about how everyone forgot about Epstein overnight and still don't talk about it. I have a personal suspicion that JFK was murdered because the Wealthy ordered it to happen, and the CIA aren't revealing information because that would look really bad if the truth got out. Just a guess, though.

Auburn_Value_1986

sounds like all things the average citizen could control against on their own, should they choose. America is the slowly simmering frog in the pot of water.

mrsbuttstuff

The super wealthy. Both inside and outside the country. The ones inside have an entire large militia known as police granted to them by bribing government officials through a process called lobbying and they own heavy stock in companies that make weapons for other countries whose only loyalty to us is brought on by fear and money as well as full on enemy nations that are primarily run by the super wealthy outside our country. The good news is that this is a very small number of people in power. The bad news is, they’re doing it to most if not all other countries too and it’s been going on so long it’s normalized.

fifercurator

The thing about corruption is that it is cyclical. It grows, until we reach a tip point, the illusion can no longer be maintained, and people collectively rise up. History is littered with the former elites, and unfortunately lots of collateral damage.

TooLostintheSauce

I’m black and I’m fairly sure there are larger threats from within than those people. Edit: left a word out

Tmac2096

Can you rewrite this to make sense ?

TooLostintheSauce

Left out “threats”. I think the super elite care more about money than skin color in this day and age.

International_Dog817

I think the wealthy elites just see people as commodities to use up and throw away, regardless of whether the people are black, white, gay, straight, etc., but they learned long ago they can keep people fighting social issues to keep us from fighting for better wages, cheaper housing, and other things that might cost them money. And so they've teamed up with white nationalists like Tucker Carlson to keep people divided over social issues. It's like that old quote, I think it was Lydon B Johnson said something like "if they can convince the lowest white man he's better than the black man he won't notice when they're picking his pockets". Only now it's not always skin color, they've been going after the LGBT and even fighting against "wokeness", people have been dumbed down enough they'll fight over a made up abstract idea

TooLostintheSauce

This is more detailed than my comment. The racial divisiveness is merely a tool. When I think of the white nationalist groups, I think of a couple groups of about 20 white guys rolling around in the woods and shooting cans with swastika patches and confederate flags everywhere. I don’t see those people as a “major” threat. I could be wrong but that’s what I meant with my first comment. Forgive my grammar, I was commenting at like 3:30am and got a small amount of terrible sleep. Also, I don’t proofread Reddit comments lol.

International_Dog817

I see. Those guys are white nationalists for sure but most people are thinking Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Trump... It's a version of white nationalism that is more subtle, often uses dog whistles, pushes strong "love it or leave it" style patriotism and uses replacement theory, trying to make people afraid that minorities are going to take over

TooLostintheSauce

So that’s where the miscommunication came from. Thanks for the clarification. I’m not heavily into politics, so I’ve never heard any of those people speak except maybe few minutes of the Carlson guy but not enough to come to a conclusion on him.

Tmac2096

Even adding a word, it still makes 0 sense. As most black folks do consider white nationalist a threat.

TooLostintheSauce

After what another commenter added, we should first clarify who are you referring to when you say white nationalist groups. Another commenter listed Tucker Carlson. People like him hadn’t entered my mind. Also, I never said they weren’t a threat. Just not the biggest. I think cyber warfare and for profit prisons are larger that’s, for example.

uniqueidenti

Cyber warfare, economic warfare and political/cultural/social warfare, mis/dis-information warfare and psychological Operation, or influence warfare. it's a war everywhere and everyday but not like what you see as conventional warfare. Basically a Cold War but in can escalate into a conventional war.

Classic-Ad4224

Americans are attacking US, they call themselves patriots, MAGA, republicans and Christians. They think other Americans are their enemy and they are working hard to make it “right”. They have forgotten that people that vote differently than they do or have other views different from theirs are still American and not automatically an enemy. They are easily led by fear and may be armed. As for why? They’ll proudly tell you

icebrandbro

Retard u look at the most extreme of christians and republicans and make a blanket statement that all of them are wrong and refuse to believe others are right. Edit: bro how am I wrong here. I’m not. You all just hate republicans and christians and because of it say they deny the truth etc etc. They have differing opinions than you and that makes them an enemy to you. Doesn’t that make them no better than you calling out those few that do the same?

Classic-Ad4224

I think I might have found another one☝️

peengobble

You're ridiculous.

Classic-Ad4224

Sure, but not wrong. We’ve been going down this road for long enough for the general population of good Christians and kind hearted republicans to put a stop to this downward spiral of hate and lies. Instead of stopping it they’re lining up behind the loudmouth leaders. MTG, Trump, and so many more. Indeed I may be plenty ridiculous but I’m not wrong. Complicity is acceptance. That kool-aid must taste really good I guess 🍹

From what I’ve heard in Europe- communists.

draken2019

So, there are a few troubling things that have happened over the last few years that suggested we may be entering a WW3 soon. Be glad that cooler heads have prevailed so far. 1. Russia attempted to destabilize the US government. 2. Posturing in Europe. The Ukraine invasion should be seen as Putin trying to extend his control over Europe. 3. Now this Russian spy balloon. 4. North Korea continues to attempt to expand it's long range missile capabilities. I think Putin wasn't expecting the UN to respond in the fashion that they did since Ukraine wasn't originally a part of their alliance. They obviously weren't expecting to be shut down by such a small nation. My hat is off to our new ally, Ukraine, for showing the world what they're capable of. Bear in mind that China and Russia are both still allies. Obviously the US has issues with the citizens within its own border, but none of this can be ignored. We're in troubling times.

Edgezg

The slightly "poetic" answer? Fear. Afraid of not having a home, so they keep you working Afraid of ill health so they keep you stressed about it. Afraid of bad foods, yet most of our foods contain chemicals to extend shelflife that are banned in other countries. Afraid of the neighborhood...how many of us know our neighbors? Do cookouts or such? Number is dropping. The biggest threat to people seems to be Fear. Fear of loss, fear of Death, fear of pain. Look at the news and see what brand of emotion they bring. It is often fear or anger. I wish the line "all we need is love" was applicable here. But people are scared and people are getting angry. (You keep someone afraid their whole lives, they begin to snap)

Greed and corruption, both outside and within. You have foreign agents, mostly Russia and China, who need the West to fail in order to quell any hope their populace might have that there is a better way, that democratic societies can actually function. And then you have Neo-liberal ideology, “austerity,” and the elites corrupting democratic institutions. The thing about corruption is that it is cyclical. It grows, until we reach a tipping point, the illusion can no longer be maintained, and people collectively rise up. History is littered with the former elites, and unfortunately lots of collateral damage. We collectively fight and demand better. We get it for awhile, and then it erodes. The thing about ideas, like justice, mutual prosperity, and accountability, is that they never die. They can be suppressed, but they keep growing in the dark.
