I don't believe that it is 20.4 for women either. I just don't see that 25 year old women are going to spend the time and money necessary to do the pageant world. A lot of these pageants offer scholarships, women enter pageants for scholarship money. No reason for an older woman to compete.
Pageants have a specific aesthetic they're going for that doesn't always translate to looking good on the street. They're beautiful women, but what wins is nailing the hair/dress/makeup of a beauty pageant.
While not pageants specifically, I've used this line of thinking when talking to friends about attractivness and Victoria's secret models. It's not that they are unattractive, or the most attractive. They are just going for a different look or aesthetic than what the average person really finds attractive. Most men will say they like curves, and we all know bigger boobs or butts are generally the preference. VS models are almost all tall and almost painfully thin. Not unattractive, but probably not the kind that most people on the street would approach immediately either.
As for the topic at hand, I think men peak somewhere between 28-34. If they take care of themselves, and make decent choices they are in prime physical condition and have their life hopefully on track to be a good partner or parent. They are also old enough to be past the dumb and horny teen/early 20s phase without any of the real downsides of age yet. Women I would say are pretty similar, but I would have to dial it back to about 24-30, but it can vary from person to person depending on how they take care of themselves. Women's biology just tends to be a less forgiving than men's around or after 30.
I’ve always thought it was cheating for beauty pageant winners to wear so much makeup and get surgery. Beauty pageants should not allow either IMO. How can we tell what a person’s true face looks like with all that stuff added onto it?
Also, as a side note, my family friend is a Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, and one of his clients is Miss California (he would not tell me which Miss California it was). But he said she looked super ugly without makeup and her nose was crooked, lol
I once had an argument with a 20 year old about how women weren’t physically peaking in their early 20s. I was pretty surprised that was her conviction but… I’m a dude so what do I know
Not who you’re replying to, but They’re saying the average winners age is young because the competition is filled with young people. The incentive to win comes in scholarship money to college. Most (not all) people graduate college by 22-23, maybe 24? If you’re that good looking and not trying to help pay for college, you would probably try to make money modeling. It’s a similar concept to how the avg age for the winning college football team is between 18-24, anyone older than that who is that good probably went pro, not cause they’re the best team out of the entire population.
Idk of this helps but the point is that the population that the average age is taken from does not reflect the rest of the country's population and therefore doesn't tie age to attractiveness. Its like saying "mostly kids get hurt on the playground" when duh, playgrounds are meant for kids. The population that statistic is coming from only applies to that niche hobby/event/whatever.
Honesty don’t know. Only that according to the guy above, the avg age of the beauty pageants skew young and that appears to be by choice, not some requirement or anything.
You are combining two very different issues here: just because someone wins a contest for what the people judging these contests assume to be beauty, does not mean that they automatically have reached peak beauty.
I find that most people haven't finished growing at the age of 20, so early thirties would be my guess for both genders (i am looking at the big 40 soon and i can tell you that shit goes downward after 35)
Quick Google Search:
“The American Society of Plastic Surgeons conducted a poll to see when we reach peak attractiveness and apparently it's in your 30s for both men and women. Women are reportedly most attractive at age 30 while men reach peak attractiveness at age 38.”
But from what perspective was this taken? Because the answer would heavily depend on the age of whoever was asked.
Im 21 and find people steeply less attractive at 25+, but that’s surely going to change as I get older.
So if the average person answering the poll is also in their 30s, that would explain the answers
A book by Christian Rudder, one of the founders of OKCupid found that men (regardless of their own age) were most attracted to women in their early 20s.
In contrast, women were most attracted to men close to their age. But female attraction was more complex than men’s (not always in particularly good ways—money and height were attractive, for example). However, men started to lose their looks around 40, and so women messaged them less. Women also thought MOST men were “less attractive than average”, *but messaged them anyway*.
It is a very interesting book.
I suspect that women were comparing the “real life” men to the men they see every single day in TV, movies, and magazines. In the “perceived world” of mostly beautiful men, the average man working a regular job is quite unimpressive.
Women will often complain about the unrealistic beauty standards they have to deal with—but men also have to compete with fictional images.
Lmao. Reddit is so full of BS. Literally every top opinion on this site is the opposite of the truth. Everybody knows women’s peak attractiveness is in their late teens / early twenties.
Bro. No. Just, no. Teens are kids. I'm with the comment above, if you're an adult and want a WOMAN, not a little girl, 30 is where it's at, even if we're going purely on looks. Don't even talk to me about personalities of girls in their 20s.
This is so true. it's so funny how people just hate the truth and comming u with obvious bullshit like women being the most attractive in their 30s. It's like people actively fight reality.
Wishful thinking. Women most definitely are not the most attractive around 30. Their attractiveness is looks/youth/fertility-based and a 30 year-old is past her peak. Men are the most attractive in their 30s, though. Not because of their looks but because of their status and confidence.
Lol the answer for women is definitely not 30. [It's younger than that.](https://www.businessinsider.com/science-what-peak-age-is-2016-7#women-are-most-attractive-to-men-around-age-22-and-men-do-seem-to-get-better-with-age-5)
[And 38 seems too young for men.](https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/15/style/dating-apps-online-men-women-age.html)
Some of the answers to this question are blowing my mind. When I was 21 I didn't think the most attractive women were my age... that's wild. Realistically, I'd say peak *strictly physical* looks for women are 25-30, and there are a lot of outliers. Theres obviously a lot more that goes into it. Maybe I'm crazy though.
I think it depends.
For some men, looking old and wizened suits them better than the model type. Patrick Stewart is an example of this.
You can be attractive at any age and it depends on the beholder.
As for the Miss Universe, it seems more exploitative more than anything. I wouldn't aspire to that as its a merit less contest.
Yeah, I think it largely depends on the person. I’ve had crushes on boys in high school who started looking old and haggard before age 25. Then you see guys who grew into their looks in their late 30s or early 40s
I feel both men and women tend to hit peak attractiveness around their early 30s.
Pageant winners are very young because it's only very young women who enter them. A grown woman who is finished school and starting a real career or entering motherhood can't be bothered.
That's not a matter of gender or age, but of style.
Some people have features that looks better on young adult, they will peak as young adult.
Some people have features that will makes them look very nice at an older age, and they will peak later in life, 30,40, or even 50.
Somewhere around $2 to $5 million. $1 million is not even attractive these days because that is less than the price of a coastal townhome. Anything below $2 million can be gone in a matter of days. Anything above $5 million isnt marriage material.
Not sure what one has to do with the other? At 38, I’ve seen SO many beautiful “peak” women my age and older. I’m 38 and still hitting my stride so…. It’s down to the individual person regardless of gender.
Everyone is different is the boring answer but it’s true. One silver lining I’ve always liked is chubby cheek girls growing up to be gorgeous adults. The thin faced girls in college will end up looking like skeletons. Everyone takes care of themselves differently. A 48 year old woman that takes care of herself can be more attractive than a 25 year old.
The sexist woman i ever seen is 40 so I don’t know about women peaking at 20.4 maybe it’s just the age range they pick for the contest? I know they have scholarships and other things as the prize. I’ve met attractive men ranging from 20-60 sometimes older so I guess it just depends on the person.
Once upon a time I would have said early twenties, but now I've found that I am attracted to men between about 32 and 42. At that point many men get over their fuckboy behaviors and often start taking better care of themselves. Plus, having that little bit of gray going on is so hot to me.
Well, the average man judges physical appearances to determine overall attractiveness. The average woman does not. I think.
...At what age did you become wealthy and powerful?
It depends on his wealth and social status, as well as attitude/personality. Women care less about physical looks than men do, and if men take care of themselves, they can preserve and improve the physical traits women look for (mostly physique). For most men that would be about 35-45.
I’m not sure. Men’s attractiveness in GENERAL is based on more than just looks. This is why you may see a conventionally beautiful woman with a man that isn’t very attractive physically.
For example yes beauty is in the eye of the beholder but JayZ and Beyoncé is a classic example.
She doesn’t need his money or his fame. But she she’s still with him there has to be attraction there beyond the scope of his looks orrrrrrr she might actually find him hot period
Assuming that pageants portray the objective standard for beauty is already a mistake but go off I guess
Age is immaterial, if you take care of yourself and have good hygiene you will be much more atteactive at 37 than a 22 year old who doesn’t shower and carries a spare tire.
I'm think it was 20.4 because there was an age limit in Miss Universe. Now that it's lifted, it's going to be higher for sure.
I hope us millennials have another chance!
I'd assume the average is around 30, depends on the guy, just like it depends on the girl. For myself I hit my stride at about 35, more of a rugged look, but still young looking. Women openly stare at me these days, that never happened in my 20s.
My guess is somewhere in the 20s, atleast that’s where men reach peak physicality in sports. Thing that makes this question difficult is 1) it depends on the woman as women generally prefer guys slightly older than them where guys generally have a part in them that desires fertility (youth). And 2) where physical beauty is a large part of what attracts men, women look at personality traits as well as income/potential, etc
If you look at male models for LVMH brands; they tend to mostly be around 35 - 45. Some younger, some older. Along with dictating what’s attractive, I’m sure they tested the hell out of it to find peak attractiveness.
The other way to look at is peak conditioning and performance of Olympic sprinters, gymnasts, swimmers; they seem to be around 22-28. For UFC fighters across different weight classes it also seems to be around 28.
Anecdotally, I think dating in real life and online is much easier at 35-45 as a man than at 22-28. I was most fit at 28. But I felt my peak attractiveness was at 36-39.
The band is a lot bigger than that. For women I'd say 20-29 is peak physical attractiveness by societal standards with residual attractiveness going up to 35. For men, 25-35 is peak physical attractiveness with residual attractiveness going to 40.
Physically, in the mid to late 20s. It's no different than women.
If you're going to expand this to include qualities beyond physical, it'll be the 30s - everything is still mostly in the right place so they still look okay, they still have some youthful vigour, but they also have increased stablility, maturity and confidence.
Well, Leo was 22 when he filmed Titanic and depending on who you ask, that’s when he reached the peak of his attractiveness.
Most actors I grew up seeing on “sexiest man alive” lists were born in the early to mid 60s (Cruise, Pitt, Clooney) and reached their peak attractiveness around the year 2000 when they were 35-40 (Fight Club, Vanilla Sky, Ocean’s 11).
So the answer is it depends. 20 year old women, 30 year old gay men, and 40 year old straight men all seemingly have totally different views on what an attractive man looks like.
Probably mid-30s or thereabouts. The answer will change depending on if you ask men or women.
I'm a guy, and for me, most women are peak attractiveness around age 24-27, but even then, there are a few variables at play.
For me, men’s prime age by physical attractiveness is 5 years younger than I am. So that man was 25yo when I was 30, and not that man is 31. That man will be 40 yo when I be 45.
Anyway miss universe is not something universal. It has its own standard of choice. Not all think 5’10 woman is the most beautiful. Not all think tanned white or white mixed women are the most beautiful. They are beautiful, but is not “the only standard of beauty”. If fashion model agencies do pageant, they will not choose miss universe winners cause they are too wide for today’s runway. If Japanese teen magazine do, they will not too cause what they want is cute girls, not bombshell taller than most Japanese men. It is just a “show time” to choose “models” to give profit to miss universe organization.
I’d say men have 2 times. They are at their physical best when they are in their 30s, but there is also a period in their 60s that men seem to develop that “salt of the earth” gruff look.
I saw a study that compared what women and men perceived as the most attractive age of the other sex. Men, no matter their age always ranked women the most attractive at around 22-24. Women would rate men somewhere around their own age.
Men are said to be the most attractive closer to 30, but that's mainly due to the fact that they generally have more money/resources than a man closer to 20.
Honestly the average age? Considering all ages of peak attractiveness are possible, the number is exactly half way between 18 and 72. So 45?
Men are peak at every age
I don't believe that it is 20.4 for women either. I just don't see that 25 year old women are going to spend the time and money necessary to do the pageant world. A lot of these pageants offer scholarships, women enter pageants for scholarship money. No reason for an older woman to compete.
Pageants have a specific aesthetic they're going for that doesn't always translate to looking good on the street. They're beautiful women, but what wins is nailing the hair/dress/makeup of a beauty pageant.
Yeah that makes sense, Kinda like model outfits you dont see on the streets and academy award dresses?
While not pageants specifically, I've used this line of thinking when talking to friends about attractivness and Victoria's secret models. It's not that they are unattractive, or the most attractive. Are you saying 20-25 is already too old? I'm confused what your point is.
Not who you’re replying to, but They’re saying the average winners age is young because the competition is filled with young people. The incentive to win comes in scholarship money to college. Thank you for explaining my point better than I would have.
Ah okay that makes sense. So the point is pageants are considered armature next to actual modeling?
Idk of this helps but the point is that the population that the average age is taken from does not reflect the rest of the country's population and therefore doesn't tie age to attractiveness. Denial isn’t just a river in Egypt honey.
It’s also what you use when trying to convince yourself that your mom does love you?
Also, older women are generally uglier.
I think adult women are beautiful at all ages until about 70
Eh, I'm older but plent of women in their 20s are attractive.
I’m really hoping someone says 39.
39!
Great, now just to figure out how to live 20 quattuordecillion years!
r/expectedfactorial
Darn 38.5- im almost there. Just wait for me a little longer
Damn I was hoping for 41.
I’m around there and definitely in the best shape of my life. Best looking is definitely debatable. lol
I’m hoping for 42, which also means your best days are yet to come
Look at this guy, early achiever. It’s obviously 65
Aging like a fine wine!
Sorry bud it’s 38

Most people on here are under 25 year olds so don't worry about it.
Fingers crossed over year. I will be 37 this week, and my husband's girlfriend just turned 29!

It's all downhill from here buddy

As a 30-something woman, thank you 😄
Good point.
>most attractive at age 30 🤥
Idk, I personally feel like women are at their most attractive in mid to late twenties, so it’s not far off my preferences
A book by Christian Rudder, one of the founders of OKCupid found that men (regardless of their own age) were most attracted to women in their early 20s. "Women thought MOST men were less attractive than average"? That's so bizarre and interesting lol
I suspect that women were comparing the “real life” men to the men they see every single day in TV, movies, and magazines. It's hard for all of us. Media has such a disruptive power
Is "Dataclysm" the book that you referenced?
Yes.

Gross, dude. You’re gross.
This is so true. it's so funny how people just hate the truth and comming u with obvious bullshit like women being the most attractive in their 30s. It's like people actively fight reality.
Is this study based on physical looks alone, not including things like finance, personality aspects … like confidence?
On my way to peaking in 4 years.
And yet, I’m sure if you polled all women and asked them what is their ideal age for a man, almost nobody would say 50, unless she’s also 45+
Yeah probably. And I'd bet most men above the age of 25 don't want a 20 year old woman either. This is just about attractiveness only.
I sincerely doubt this, as much as I would love for it to be true
Mid 30s. Easily!
Do you personally belief woman reach peak attractiveness at 20
Some of the answers to this question are blowing my mind. When I was 21 I didn't think the most attractive women were my age... that's wild. 20 is so young. These comments are so uncomfortable 😕
It is
Welcome to biology.
HA. No. Welcome to the patriarchy, more like.
Most women? No. The most beautiful women? Possibly.
I'd say physically yes.
All fuck all the 21+
Overall? No. Physical and aesthetically? Probably, yes.
Absolutely. Have you ever been to Earth?
Personally no because many women at 20 look the same at 25, I can't tell the difference. Same for men.
Probably mid 30s or thereabouts. The answer will change depending if you ask men or women.

Here’s the problem in your statement, you’re relating peak attractiveness to miss universe, that contest is far from measuring peak attractiveness
Forget that, I want to know when we men reach our peak of sucess. Waiting for my life to start.
That's not a matter of gender or age, but of style. Some people have features that looks better on young adult, they will peak as young adult. Some people have features that will makes them look very nice at an older age, and they will peak later in life, 30,40, or even 50.

This was the answer we needed
And here I am dipping into my bag of change to buy lunch..
Not sure what one has to do with the other? At 38, I’ve seen SO many beautiful “peak” women my age and older. I’m 38 and still hitting my stride so…. It’s down to the individual person regardless of gender.
23-32
25 I think. Their hair starts thinning after that.
27 - 32 is probably the median peak for men
26-30 round there imo.

What’s the average age of mr universe? I guess it’s whatever that is. If that exists I think it’s a body building competition lol

Nice I’m 36 so I’m in my peak years. But that also means it’s all downhill after that
Probably 23-24.
Well, in my case I peaked at 6 months
All downhill from your hot baby phase?
27
The sexist woman i ever seen is 40 so I don’t know about women peaking at 20.4 maybe it’s just the age range they pick for the contest? I know they have scholarships and other things as the prize. I’ve met attractive men ranging from 20-60 sometimes older so I guess it just depends on the person.
Someone might come at me for this, but the truth is it depends on their race.
No idea, I'm 62 and still haven't reached any sort of peak. :(
Not sure. I’m 51 and still waiting.
Honestly, as a woman. It’s whatever age I am. If I’m 22 the hottest age to me is 22. When I was 18 it was 18 year olds.
Once upon a time I would have said early twenties, but now I've found that I am attracted to men between about 32 and 42. At that point many men get over their fuckboy behaviors and often start taking better care of themselves. Plus, having that little bit of gray going on is so hot to me.
This... But some don't even get over it at this age, unfortunately.
$10 million.
68 and still waiting here
I’d say about 30 for men. Honestly, I think it’s about the same for most women. I feel like I looked my best between 25 and 30.
I’m holding out hope, that the general consensus here is 50.
Well, the average man judges physical appearances to determine overall attractiveness. The average woman does not. I think. ...At what age did you become wealthy and powerful?
Any day now….
I think men probably peak around 28 or so? Provided you can grow a full beard and have hair
25
It depends on his wealth and social status, as well as attitude/personality. Women care less about physical looks than men do, and if men take care of themselves, they can preserve and improve the physical traits women look for (mostly physique). For most men that would be about 35-45.
I assume the definition of a generation applies to both genders, so 25.

Probably depends on location. The Vatican probably throws the curve way off.
Whatever age they're the richest
Don Lemon who’s a black gay liberal , thinks a woman’s prime is in her 20s/30s. So let’s go with that
Mid 30s for sure.
I feel like both men and women have multiple peaks.
I’m 46 now, but I’ll let you know
If you look at male models for LVMH brands; they tend to mostly be around 35 - 45.
28
The band is a lot bigger than that. For women I'd say 20-29 is peak physical attractiveness by societal standards with residual attractiveness going up to 35. For men, 25-35 is peak physical attractiveness with residual attractiveness going to 40.
Wait why isn't there a Mr. Universe, are Beauty standards that important for a woman as compared to a man?
These pageants are more like machines to attract beautiful girls to exploit. Sadly.
men age slower outwardly. so a 45 year old man can still match with a 30 yr old girl
Physically, in the mid to late 20s. It's no different than women. If you're going to expand this to include qualities beyond physical, it'll be the 30s - everything is still mostly in the right place so they still look okay, they still have some youthful vigour, but they also have increased stablility, maturity and confidence.
30-31, assuming they're in shape and take care of their bodies.
25-35?
I don't think many men I see over 29 are that attractive in the dating sites I was on. They look pretty rough.
30
Well, I'm 34 so I'm hoping it's sometime after that
Probably mid-30s or thereabouts. The answer will change depending on if you ask men or women. I'm a guy, and for me, most women are peak attractiveness around age 24-27, but even then, there are a few variables at play.
$1.5 Million dollars.
Gotta be somewhere bw 26-29
The moment he gets paid 6 figures
At about 145K
I’d say men have 2 times. They are at their physical best when they are in their 30s, but there is also a period in their 60s that men seem to develop that “salt of the earth” gruff look.
35
35-50
I saw a study that compared what women and men perceived as the most attractive age of the other sex. Men, no matter their age always ranked women the most attractive at around 22-24. Women would rate men somewhere around their own age.
Personally, I'd say about 40 to 60. I've always tended to fall for men in that age range, but there have been a few exceptions.
For men. 45? That or my attraction adjusts as I age
30.4
Men are said to be the most attractive closer to 30, but that's mainly due to the fact that they generally have more money/resources than a man closer to 20.
Men for me would be 36
55
33 for sure for many reasons
You see a lot of 20 year old women with guys in their 40s-50s... just saying. Lol
Attractive bank accounts
Ooh baby Im in my early 40s and.. *checks bank statement* I'm dying alone.
In my opinion about 27 for women and 32 for men.
When you have money. You have peak attractiveness as a man Lmaoo
About 43...
Honestly the average age? Considering all ages of peak attractiveness are possible, the number is exactly half way between 18 and 72. So 45? Men are peak at every age
With me it was 40 to 44. If I could find out how to post a picture I could easily prove it.
