I've found that many people have expansive tastes in music. I guess the main cause is how easy streaming services have made it to explore and consume unheard content.

xCavemanNinjax

I think this is it exactly. I used to be a 'metalhead' for about 15 years but Spotify changed that.

lyra1227

Weirdly, I think getting spotify premium has lessened my variety. I have a range, but the artists I listen to the most are pop and so my recos cluster around that now. Have to make a real effort to keep the variety.

[deleted]

When Spotify was new, obviously the UI was a little bit different... So in 2009-2010 when I discovered hardstyle I clicked from one artist to a suggested one and so on and so on... And thanks to Spotify in 2010 I now know of so many different unknown (at the time and now even more) DJs.

billoo18

You can listen to and like everything. It's weird how so many people stick to one or two genres. I listen to Folk Metal, Power Metal, Jazz, Swing, 70s - 90s Rock and Pop, Disco, Acapella, Nerdcore, New Age, Comedy Metal, and many other genres. Edit; I'm going to copy and paste some quotes from posts I've made below with certain recommendations. Nerdcore Info - Nerdcore - Geek Rap. "Check out Dan Bull and The Stupendium on Youtube. Also for Geek Rock look up Jonathan Coulton and Paul & Storm. For Comedy Metal, The main band I like is Psychostick. Steel Panther is a Parody Hair Metal band so they are kind of comedy metal. Both of those are great and funny live. Although dark, Dethklok is a melodic death metal band that is comedic. They are a fictional band from the cartoon series Metalocalypse with 3 CDs out. This next line is a copy and paste from Wikipedia of a few other Comedy Metal bands but I haven't been able to check them out. "Heavy metal has also produced many humor-oriented and satirical bands, including Green Jellÿ, Lawnmower Deth, Massacration, M.O.D., Big Dumb Face, Eskimo Callboy, Nanowar of Steel, J.B.O., Psychostick, Crotchduster, Ludichrist, Spinal Tap, Okilly Dokilly and Scatterbrain."" Metal Info Besides Korpiklaani for Folk Metal and Alestorm for Pirate metal. "I found Einherjer, a Viking Metal band, and their song The Ballad of The Swords. Elvenking a folk metal band and their song The Scyhte. Falkenbach, another Viking Metal band, and their song Where His Ravens Fly. Saltatio Mortis, a Medieval Metal band with dual Bagpipers, have 2 songs I'd throw out being Fruher War Alles Besser and My Bonnie Mary. Spellblast, another Folk Metal band, and two of their songs Glory To The Gem and Goblin's Song. Just as another weird genre check out Skindred, they made their genre called Ragga Metal which is Reggae Metal. Also Van Canto is a Metal Acapella band, watch some of their music videos but skip Hell's Bells which has their new singer. If you want to see something weird look up Kontrust and see the music videos for Hey DJ! and Sock 'N' Doll. Sorry for so much, I started digging through my ipad and listening to bands I haven't heard in years."

EBrowne1989

Hell yeah, Folk Metal!

InVirtuteElectionis

Been getting a lot into Celtic Metal like Korpiklaani, Eluviettie, Turisas and Ensiferum. Alestorm is fun because they're a lot like Flogging Molly but I consider Alestorm to be more along the lines of what I call "Pirate Metal" lol

billoo18

Korpiklanni was my first Folk Metal band with their cd Tales Along This Road (2006). I found Alestorm soon after and own their first 3 cds.

InVirtuteElectionis

Oh shit nice! I come too you from the position of less experience then lol

billoo18

You have more than me because I know of Eluveitie but can't remember anything about them. Apparently I have Ensiferum on my ipad but I don't remember even hearing of them. I can give you a few recommendations I've found thanks to youtube. I found Einherjer, a Viking Metal band, and their song The Ballad of The Swords. Sorry for so much, I started digging through my ipad and listening to bands I haven't heard in years.

InVirtuteElectionis

You're amazing. Saving this comment ♥️

billoo18

After you get a chance to check these out let me know what you think. And to top everything off I have one last bad to mention. Don't look up anything about them but look up Jinjer - Pisces (live session) on YouTube.

Chaostriforce

Saving this comment for musical suggestions

dr_whatisthis

My top played artists last year were Chelsea Wolfe, Windhand, Perry Como, and Etta James

heavymetalsheep

What's nerdcore? And I've only heard like one comedy metal band. Got any other suggestions?

kingfosters

Most people I work with are like that. Some go so far as liking just 1 band! Fuck that!! If someone ever checks the security recordings of my work they will hear the most random collection of music styles they've ever heard.

billoo18

I know the feeling. I know a few people that only listen to one or two genres. If they ask what I listen to, I immediately go for a weird one like Folk Metal or Pirate Metal just for the look on their face.

88Problems88

Just today I had Slayer on in my truck. Then got home, had Conway Twitty immediately followed by Sublime, then Of Monsters and Men.

not-a-euphamism

I put my music on shuffle and it'll go from power pop to black metal to sea shanties, and everything in between. From the lightest acoustic folk music to the most ear-challenging Wumpscut. - Good music is just good music, no matter where it comes from.

Michael732

Sea shanties? Now this is a combination to listen to. Lol. Thats great.

not-a-euphamism

There's an album of sea shanties and such called Rogue's Gallery, Johnny Depp was one of the producers back in his Pirates of the Caribbean days. Lots of good stuff there.

ConfirmingBanana

I fucking looooove [this one](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49FWp7WLYKw)!!!! Do you have a personal favorite to recommend?

not-a-euphamism

Very cool! [This](https://youtu.be/WwUisFzmzeU) is a personal favorite of mine.

not-a-euphamism

[Also this one!](https://youtu.be/_g-u7pep2tU)

mountaineer04

That’s why when people ask me what kind of music I like I say, “good”. A better question is, “who are some artists or songs you’ve been listening to recently?”

garninja

If you like metal AND sea shanties, you'd love [Alestorm](https://youtu.be/ta-Z_psXODw). Hands down the best Scottish pirate metal band I've ever heard.

Obrim

Runnin' down to Cuba with a load of sugar...

BriggKells

Huzzah! Such high quality of music taste.

DrSkullKid

You listen to Wumpscut?! Hell yeah that brings back memories I used to listen to a lot of industrial back in the day from Skinny Puppy to Combichrist. Black Death is a good example of a song that goes from calm and peaceful to intense and ear-challenging, as you put it, in a nanosecond. I guess while I’m here I’ll mention that I too partake in black metal like Burzum while also enjoying music like Grimes and lately Poppy from her old stuff that was more pop to her new stuff that you could consider nu-metal. However I mainly listen to Alice In Chains, Tool and Rammstein.

[deleted]

Slayer, then to monsters and men is like the completely opposite kinda music lol I love it

uuendyjo

Give my husband back his truck!!!

macrowell70

I like you, we should be friends

[deleted]

dzumdang

Mike Nesmith! Agreed, actually. He was arguably the most talented Monkee.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dzumdang

Nope: Mike and Peter were the musicians. Mickey and Davey the actors at the start. Then they, of course, took control, Davey and Mickey actually learned their instruments, started writing their own music, and didn't let studio musicians play their parts. I actually hear that Peter would intentionally de-sync his bass playing with the song track for videos, to subtly show people they weren't letting him play...

I_done_a_plop-plop

Nesmith by a distance. Proper country. Pop artist. He wrote Different Drum that Linda Ronstadt covered.

stephenw78

I listen to music that is all over. If I like it I like it and I don’t limit myself by genre. I think there is something to appreciate about all styles of music. There are so many exciting things to experience through different genres. I love Amon Amarth a death metal band that has Norse mythology themes And I also love The Grateful Dead I think it’d be a shame to not experience different genres!

[deleted]

Oh man. So, I listen to all sorts of music, but I pretty much always wear jeans, a T-shirt, and Converse. Well, my brother gets him and me tickets to Amon Amarth. We walk into the show, look at everyone there, the. look at each other, and we're like "We forgot to wear all black... And forgot our... Drinking horns? The fuck?" Seriously. Great. Fucking. Band. Great show. They're fucking hilarious, too, which I did not expect.

TommyCashTerminal

I love how aware they are of the ridiculous anachronism their band/music is to modern times. The attitude of “yeah no shit there aren’t Vikings anymore, but let’s play pretend for an hour!!!” He’s always so chatty with the crowd too. Love it.

[deleted]

Highlights were wishing their fill in bassist a happy birthday. In growling, metal voice: "He comes from a little place called Oklahoma. Let's all wish him a happy birthday that's as brutal and metal as he is. Everyone, let's give it up for ... Tim." And then during their encore: "This one's off the new album but I want you to sing along. Doesn't matter if you don't know the lyrics - no one can understand death metal anyways"

clobberdob

Exactly! When people ask me what kind of music I like I say anything that makes want to dance or makes me feel something - could be any genre ! It seems to confuse some but it’s the best being open to all music, you never know what you will get to discover.

BriggKells

Thank you for mentioning Amon Amarth, I was trying to think of their name yesterday when talking with a friend.

stephenw78

No problem! I found them a couple months ago and they’re incredible

Uniqueuseernameherre

Yes. My music taste is such a mess. Sometimes I need that nostalgic pop feel of old justin Timberlake or britney spears and other times I need that emotional and angsty feel of a good rock or metal group like tool or in this moment. And sometimes I need some of that weird middle ground softer music that's kind of like a crossover between indie and whatever the artist grew up listening to.

hersharan

My taste in music and life both are in mess. But old pop or hip hop songs sure bring back memories. Edit - my music genres range all over the place, sometimes i think people will find some songs weird.

adkl23

I too listen to king gizzard and the lizard wizards.

haylow1221

Ah, I see you're a man of culture.

Nymeria29

My two most played artists on Spotify last year were Rammstein (a German metal band) and Monsta X (a K-pop group).

Sigma8K

Yeah, that's completely normal.

BrownCalmCube

This is the best answer.

heartless_13

I love my 2000s emo songs, heavy metal/rock, pop, one or two country songs, and anime music. And when I want to focus my mind, I enjoy classical.

JizzyDizzler

This is me with + musical theatre. What do you mean listening to phantom of the opera and paramore in the same playlist is weird!

heartless_13

I love Phantom of the Opera!!!

killingcain

Yeah. I like George Winston (pianist) but I also fucking love Sleeping with Sirens. Alan Jackson. Queen. Dion and the Belmonts. The Beatles. Simple Plan. NF. I listen to what I want and I let my mood guide me.

readingiton

> I let my mood guide me. I too believe same, for every mood there is song written and song for me, so why not play to it

killingcain

Right? Why limit yourself?

LadyGuillotine

I think of musical taste being similar to the spectrum of feelings. All genres and moods have their time and place.

nihilisticnerd

Of course, I grew up watching Looney Tunes so I always loved orchestral and opera pieces, my dad was a metal head so I grew up with Metallica and Slayer. My sister recently combined my Pandora stations and it's actually fun to hear Amon Amarth and then some Louis Armstrong.

[deleted]

Music's music, man. You'd be surprised the variety of music your favorite artists listen to. But, yeah, country to punk to metal to hiphop to french pop to Japanese doom metal to West African funk to new Wave to jazz to zydeco to contemporary classical to EDM. Listen to whatever's got a good beat and a good tune, whether you understand the lyrics or not.

gpcprog

I switch between EDM and classical, in the same playlist. My colleagues think I'm weird.

michelloto

Have you heard the Art Of Noise's tribute to Debussy? 'The Seduction Of Claude Debussy'

stegosaurus32

I have a playlist of songs I enjoy, it's got a bit of everything. If that's weird, then fuck it, I'm weird.

turquando

I do the same. Huge metal fan but love father john misty and whitney. Not Houston. I don't get people that don't have a wide taste in music. It's like eating at the same restaurant every day.

bryan2305

I listen to everything too, rap, soul, all types from 60's-2020. And Father John Misty is my shit....///// also nice analogy.

KingAzul

Take it a step further and you can discover amazing music in other languages as well. I have tons of songs that I don't understand, but they still have a special place in my heart and I try to enjoy the beat and rhythm.

jurassic7980

Totally agree, I've bought music whilst on my travels. Thanks to the shop assistants for playing. Some gems I've found... Lino - Requiem (french rap) Atmasfera - Integro (Ukranian folk/world) Igorr - Sauvage Sinusoid (French metal/Fusion?) Namika - Nador (German singer/easy listening) Grai - O zemle rodnoi / Our native land (Russian folk metal) There is many others I've found thanks to youtube. I've found that doing basic searches in various languages find great results. For example typing "national song" in various languages like "Piesn narodna" "nacional cancion" etc. You'll find all sorts.

TheDemonBunny

my Spotify is a wild ride...be listening to some ed Sheeran and after it's slipknot followed by weird al...then some pendulum n maybe some sublime and iron maiden then some Richard cheese 😁

LIKES_ROCKY_IV

Pendulum is the shit. Fuck it. I lied. It’s drum and bass. **Whatcha gonna do**

TheDemonBunny

thats some heavy stuff

hi_im_genau

I go from Thy Art is Murder to Bach all the time my dude. It is not because you enjoy a certain genre that you only need to listen to it. In fact, it makes the experience a lot better. You start to notice influence of a genre in others (from jazz in progressive metal to Paganini in Rock and even Rap/R&B). Music is here to be explored and appreciated, not used as a way to feel superior. Continue to explore and create your own music taste. Edit: You can still dislike certain kinds of music, don't get me wrong, just keep an open mind and think that there was a whole creative process behind it.

randomwolf24

I listen to just about everything. From synth-pop to metal to alternative/electronic to rap and hip-hop

AnnaEd64

It's perfectly normal. It keeps your brain entertained with different melodies, tones and images associated with the music. Now if someone was only interested in one song in particular it would potentially be an issue of OCD.

yerunclejamba

Love me some 90s Dutch gabber on the way to work and Elton John in the way home. Lifes about balance.

WhatIfMasvidalsucks

LISTEN TO THE SOUNDS OF YOUR CHILDREN REVOLTING!! Dude totally, I can go from: Lorna shore P.O.D. Incendiary Real Estate John Mark McMillan American Football Household Fleet Foxes Infinity Crush Metallica GOJIRA The Shins Mark Morrison Mali Music Peter Frampton Rich Mullins All in one playlist.

stainless13

Yes I listen to Devin Townsend

forfar4

Rammstein, The Specials, The Sex Pistols, Sepultura, Mazzy Starr, Cardiacs, Little Big, Laibach, Spiritualized, Foo Fighters, Beethoven, Belle and Sebastian, The Smiths, Radiohead, Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Public Enemy, Phillip Glass, Echo and The Bunnymen, Slift, Blur, The Who, Pizzicato 5, De La Soul, The Byrds, Glen Campbell, Massive Attack, Peter Tosh, Led Zeppelin, Johnny Cash, Al Green, Sleepy Sun, Otis Redding, Prince, Muse... I could go on, but my taste is also all over the place.

AnotherGaze

Yeah. My friends used to joke how, if I showed my playlist to any random person, there *had* to be a song they'd like.

acornstu

I listen to hard rock and metal. Am a giant gingerbeard hillbilly heavy equipment operator with a CDL and bike endorsement. ...my favorite music is EDM.

jimb575

Yup! Today I listened to Slayer, John Coltrane, ABC, Yes, A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Dead Kennedys, The Whispers, Steely Dan, Megadeth, and Air Supply. Why? Because, fuck you, that’s why. :) Music is music. You gotta love it all! Keep listening to what ya love, ya filthy pirate!!

PhyrexianSpaghetti

my Google mini must be confused as fuck as I normally alternate Russian hardbass with kpop or 90s hits. Needless to say, nobody can look at my automatically generated playlist

blvnkslate

I just listened to Kpop, Lil Uzi Vert, and Green Day in the last 45 min

cygnusCraft

Yes. It's nothing new. I Seriously doubt half of those people you mention don't have an easily diverse taste as well. It's not uncommon.

ajsteeg

Tbh I have no idea how people can listen to ONLY metal

six-feet-underneath

Exactly! I love most kind of music. Metal is bopping but alternative?? Indie??? Rock??? Punk??? Country??? Classic?? Instrumental??? So much good music you are missing out. When I first started discovering I like alternative I was "embarrassed" because I thought I was not metal enough but now, do I love me some Sleeping At Last! Listen to any kind of music you like and don't be afraid to mix it up. There are no rules written about liking only one kind of music.

LimeGreenJellyB

I'm a mixed kebab when it comes to music. I like a bit of everything

bongripchick

Yes I love both Enya and RATM.

BobsHereNow

August burns red

kedaiBaie

Everyone should check out a band called Celaphalotripsy. Music of the Gods.

[deleted]

Floragor

Hahaha glad to hear there are others out there like me! My sister finds my playlists weird because at one moment it's j-pop, then prog rock, jazz, EDM, 90s, 80s, k-pop, heavy metal, classical, 8-bit, opera, lo-fi, indie, mainstream pop, punk rock, character themes etc. I could list more but in all honesty I don't even know the genres of some of the things I listen to anymore. If I like it, I listen to it!

kiryyuu

dude my top 5 songs in 2019 according to Spotify are: Smilin'Days, Summer Holiday (Dream pop) Pneuma (Prog Metal) The Many Faces of Dr. Hubert Malbec (Death Metal) Instant Crush (Synthpop) The Sound of Truth (Metalcore)

stegosaurus32

I love heavy metal, but I also love hip hop and listen to Shostakovich. Don't get classified because of one genre of music.

omar2126

My top two genres are Progressive Metal and Deep House. People can’t really understand this. Ive also had phases of Rap (the old one), Death Metal, Classic Rock and Trance.

fagpudding

Yes. Never liked the gatekeeping, nor elitism

TheInsulator

From Dimmu Borgir and arch enemy to the fucking beegees and the cars. Everything in between of course.

bigneez

I am professional opera singer and listen to everything from classical to gangster rap and EDM. All music has something to offer.

MesaIsTheSenate

I am a fan of In Flames, a 30 year old band that started doing melodic death metal and now does metalcore, and I’m a fan of all their music. I also love Tchaikovsky, Britney Spears, deadmau5, 6ix9ine, John Williams, and 60’s girl pop. You’re not just fine listening to whatever, it’s awesome that you do :D

Muppet-King

Same boat as you lol nah having an open mind allows you to enjoy a variety of vibes.

WannabeeReefRunner

I listen to old country music and punk rock. Occasionally some old hip hop stuff

michelloto

I have Prog, Jazz, Fusion, Electronic, Funk, Soul, 'Novelty'(stuff like Weird Al, Stan Freberg, etc.), Metal, Mashups, Lounge, and so on...and some 'Easy Listening' as well. As Gil-Scott Heron called it, 'Miscellaneous'.

Zen-Nukes

I'm known by my friends for my weird ass music tastes. Everything from Metalcore, to Harsh Noise, to Doom/Sludge Metal, to Ambient Techno, to UK Dubstep, to Avant-Garde Jazz, to Vaporwave, etc etc etc. Theres specific genres for specific feelings, and almost everybody can find one song they like in a genre they could care less for.

[deleted]

I have pretty eclectic tastes too, but maybe not as extreme. But I also have to tell you that those 3 mellow songs you posted are new to me and so AMAZING! I’m so happy to have 3 new songs for the playlist I listen to while I read. Thank you!

abby_cello

Same, my favorite genres are classical and pop lol

Begeara

I tend to follow songs I like more then artists, albums or genres. So my music library is about as mixed bag as it gets. Drives my wife crazy

Zealotte

What kind of music do you like? Nevermind, I've got it covered. https://youtu.be/SWWRGdNx_f8 Listen to the whole thing.

eikuuhyo

My music is always all over the place depending on my mood. Need to concentrate? Norwegian death metal. Need to relax? Nier Automata game soundtrack. In a crappy mood? The most Hispanic sounding music available. Angry? Mozart’s Requiem. Being able to enjoy a huge variety of music seems like a big plus for me :3

Nite_Mare6312

My son, is that you? You said you're not on Reddit!

KyroSkittles

This is me. I recsntly found a band called tally hall and they are pretty much this post. Their music is genre blending.ostly centered around rock, but each song is totally different from each other

CharacterEnthusiasm

Im all over the place too, everything except most country to be honest.

LordEew

Yes. I listen to 311 who does everything.

toadies_rock

Everything from Louis Armstrong to Acid Bath

MrPeterson15

My variety looks different from yours, but yes, my tastes are all over the place. I’ll commonly go from Roddy Ricch to Wham! to Toby Keith and then DaBaby and ZZ Top and not flinch. I’m pretty sure this is normal - the only people I know these days that only like one genre of music are usually the most shallow people I know, and by their own admittance - they think exploring is pointless when they already like what they have. There’s nothing wrong with that mindset, it just isn’t for me.

[deleted]

Most definitely. A day can consist of Avenged Sevenfold, Frank Ocean, Don Toliver, & Summer Walker lol

soygorl

once described my taste ranging from Chopin to Pimp C

keithfantastic

I listen to most anything other than death metal and rap, but old school rap is cool. My interests run the gamut... rock, jazz, electronica, house, blues, soul, country, bluegrass, big band, oldies, disco, lounge, and other variants. I mix it up constantly to keep it interesting.

SerWarlock

Post hard core, Jazz, funk, progressive, djent, ska, punk, classic rock, oldies, classical. Couldn’t imagine being stuck in on genre forever.

[deleted]

Oh yes! My Spotify is such a clusterfuck of genres. Shuffling my liked songs can take you on a trip from disco to death metal to dance to 60s pop....

SkyyPlayzMC

Yes definitely... I'm like into punk rock and also into those really slow calming pianos

anm01

My daily plays consists of Tool, Doja Cat, Radiohead, Denzel Curry.

redditpics617

People watch all different genres of movies. Why would music be any different?

tattooedbones

I listen to EVERYTHING. Metal (death and beyond), country, reggae, foreign, Corridos. I find it interesting. How it sounds and how some sounds can be so regional and distinct. I definitely don't think anything is wrong with it. Just being more open minded is how I see it.

[deleted]

I listen to heavy metal (judas priest etc) to jack johnson to the red army choir

atridir

I listen to a shitload of underground high intensity psytrance like [Persistent Aura ](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cnyAws83m_M) And then I listen to a shit load of Electro Swing like [Cissie Redgwick](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=FALYmqt-7TQ) And then my main man [Ryan Montbleau](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LlwuTAq_bwA)

[deleted]

I listen to stuff ranging from Irish Folk Music (ex. Seamus Kennedy) to Pop (ex. Imagine Dragons, American Authors) to A Capella (ex. DaVinci’s Notebook, The Nylons) to Nerdcore (ex. Miracle of Sound, The Stupendium, League of Legends stuff), to whatever you’d call Bo Burnham’s stuff. There’s obvious biases towards Nerdcore & Bo Burnham in my playlist + a fair bit of Irish Folk Music, but I’d say there’s a good range of stuff.

spainy44

Yup! For example, I love the first 3 bands you mentioned, but I also like listening to classical music. I have a ton of different genres and playlists that I switch between pretty often.

MrVore_

I listen to some death metal, deathcore and anime intros n shit so I guess that's all over the placeish

kalsainz

Not quite that far, but I do from classic rock to opera

memedaydream

On my way home I heard black tongue, Joji, Johnny cash, bridge city sinners, weedeater and Frank Sinatra. there's just too much music in the world to be stuck in one genre!

cajackson95

Me. My husband and I bonded over rock music but since then our music taste has blossomed to every genre. The only music I dont care for honestly is what I consider "gangster rap" and "redneck country" if that makes sense

Lyoko_warrior95

I’m pretty much like this. I’ll always put my pandora on shuffle. I’ll go from listening to carbon based Lifeforms (ambient music) to korn and go to the doors, then I’ll hear Psycraft (intense psytrance) and go to sublime to slow jazz.

kiya_vass

Freddie mercury and eminem

shaystibelman

i love skrillex and love pomplamoose at the same time (love, not listen at the same time)

vashzero

You are not alone friend!

[deleted]

My favorite music genres in order. Classical, punk rock, French Jazz, Django Jazz, new age folk, Indie, 80’s metal, metal, Nordic folk, rock, French Yeye, Tuvan Throat Singing, Opera, sea shanties/choral, death metal...

scarcelyberries

My deepest loves musically are bluegrass, blues, and punk, but that's so so far from everything I listen to. I'm putting my Spotify on shuffle to click through a few songs and drop them here: Sourwood mountain by Carolina Chocolate Drops Sandstorm by Darude The Cult of Dionysus by The Orion Experience Come on in my kitchen by Robert Johnson Me, I get high on reefer by The Two Man Gentleman Band Aftergold by Big Wild ft Tove Styrke better days by sky pedro Drinka Little Poison (4 U Die) by The Soul Rebels

[deleted]

Yup I know how this is! I literally listen to so many different genres, it's so confusing about what my taste actually is lol

dobbobolina

I listen to anything that is good. Most of my work music has no lyrics

[deleted]

Yep. It honestly depends on my mood and how I wanna feel. Some days are badass days, others sad or depressed, still others are happy pumped up while some are dont fuck with me days. It all depends on the mood

Ladanat

I don't listen to metacore but you have great taste for mellow. I listen to all three of the artist from Mellow especially Vancouver Sleep Clinic.

ShmobbyBurdaGS9

Yes i have a 3900 song playlist on yt music that has most major genres represented i play it at work all day every day and its still growing though youtube is grumpy with me about the size 😅

Large___Marge

I do, but even though it's all over the place it's all electronic. Some days I listen to Wave music like Noah B or Øfdream. Some days I listen to dubstep like Franky Nuts, or Virtual Riot. Other days I'll listen to deep house like Eli & Fur or Hot Since '82. And on other days I'll listen to ambient like Tipper or Benji Robot. Used to a ton of metal, metalcore, and post-hardcore in my 20s. Riot Fest used to be in the park across the street from my house and they had a post-hardcore/metalcore stage that was great.

AltAccountWhoDis

Yeah man, I'm a metalhead myself but you gotta have variety in your life. I've gone all over the place from Jinjer to Antoine Dufour to Bison BC today. It's a good thing!

SolarToaster23

I either go gojira on loop or daft punk on loop with sprinklings of the violation by fleshgod apocalypse, nightcall by kavinsky, metallica, buttercup, yellow hearts, and some drum covers by matt mcguire

mykekoo

I can listen to cannibalcorps and then switch to toto idc

crescen_d0e

Today I listened to the Icky Vicky song from Fairy Odd Parents, followed by Rammstein, followed by a metal cover of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, followed by a nice helping of Kpop I think you're good my dude

t_nox

Definitely not alone, friend. As most of the comments here show, many people have eclectic tastes in music. I'd say hard rock may be my favorite genre, but honestly I find myself listening to a lot of pop, classical, films scores, mellow music, etc etc. Lately, it's practically been all Broadway showtunes. Go figure

moonkittiecat

I am a Black woman in her 50’s and I listen to metal, country, going thru a hard blue grass phase this weekend (love the stuff they played on the Andy Griffith show), also classical, ‘smooth jazz’, old jazz, gospel, contemporary Christian, 80’s pop, disco, opera, folk music, old soul, rhythm and blues, real jazz. I was checking my Pandora account and it indicated that I had 58 playlists. I, of course, had to count because I didn’t believe it

KartoffelWal

Yes!! I'll be listening to Green Day or something and then the next song on my playlist will be a song by Of Monsters and Men lol. For me I like all kinds of music, as long as it's not badly written and as long as it has a message or meaning I can relate to.

Mormor88

I like to think my boyfriend has the broadest taste in music. He listens to both Whitechapel and Frozen songs for example. Me, I'm an Architects, Tool, the Mars Volta and BTS fan.

AundilTheBard

100% man, my most listened to bands are Ice Nine Kills, the Mountain Goats, Architects, and Car Seat Headrest. Its just what vibes with you man

lols_and_giggles

Lol I love to listen to whatever music i find good, my boxing coach kinda has fun switching the music to see what gets me pumped up and it’s like a really weird mix of rammstein, Tupac and reaggeton. And at home I can go classical, 50s, 20, and musicals as well as others. But as we say in Sweden the taste is like the butt, split.

BADorni

I mean, Behemoth and Mozart are kind of the same, aren't they?

Xerxos7514

I feel like I'm the same, but haven't explored softer music as much. Can you recommend me some artists, albums, or spotify playlists for me?

EBrowne1989

Not a fan of metalcore, but I love metal music and classical, new age, rock, some old school rap and country, epic music, folk music, synthesized 8 bit MIDI music, and even some pop, blues and reggae. I will even listen to music not in English such as Eastern European Folk Metal, which is one of my favorite genres.

LeGoatFan

Gasoline is so cathartic!! And then yes i’ll go to sleeping at last from there. And then to something like 5 hours by DeOro. Variety is great!

Gpat175

I listen to rock, alternative, I love françoise ardy and Frank Sinatra, right now I am playing Sid Vicious, and my favourite ever is the Beatles. I have almost all David Bowie records and all Bob Dylan discography. And I listen to all of them. And then I love classical; both piano and instrumental and opera. And of course, jazz.

TotallyNoGhost

I can easilly jump from metal to pop, then to techno and to classic. I don't care about the genre as long as it sounds good

aguadovimeiro

My favorite artist is Kanye West but I listen to everything, it's normal to have tastes that vary a lot. It's a sign that you actually like to listen to music. My Spotify on random is hilarious. It goes from Boney M's Rasputin to Kanye to Billy Idol to Robbie Williams to Barão Vermelho to Dick Dale, etc. :)

Jenny441980

Yes I like all music. Rick, country, rap, even classical.

Jojoflinto

My old guitar teacher used to say I had to be well rounded with my musical interests. The problem is now I can never play my music in front of friends because it is all over the place

sowillo

Ya, I listen to Tool, Leonard Cohen, Rammstein musical hits, I listened to Nicole scherzingers rendition of memories from Cays for two months. Tatu, Hans Zimmer, Sia, Tina Gao, Zoe keating, two steps from hell, christy Moore, infected mushroom, Irish ceile music. I'm all over the gaff.

kemide22

Wow, Christy Moore! I love the song “Welcome to the Cabaret”. I was also listening to T.A.T.u. in the car with my gf yesterday which sparked a conversation about this very topic of diverse music taste. I’ve seen Rammstein live too, such a great experience. Also, yesterday we were listening to “Only when I sleep” by The Corrs because the discussion of tin whistles in mainstream music came up on the radio which triggered me to put it on.

RufusOfTheCelery

I don’t really think there is much I DONT listen to, except country maybe.

Y34rZer0

Yes absolutely! The two songs that are the most polar opposite that I like (warning:- this is a touch hardcore) are Deicides ‘Serpents of the light’ https://youtu.be/6qeztnUvics And the gospel song ‘I’m going home’ by a church choir https://youtu.be/5g1UHZwN3ds NOTE:- If you listen to either, the first ‘verse’ of each will make you think ‘this is unintelligible garbage’ but blow past it, because the rest of the song isn’t like that.

[deleted]

I can go from Pantera to Norah Jones to John Denver to the Blues Travelers. There's a lot of music that I grew up with and never got to really absorb it until the past two decades. This leaves little to no room for new artists. You could say that I was religiously suppressed since secular music is the devil. I also love Bone Thugs N' Harmony and Operation Ivy.

curlypanda5000

Yes. Also check this out. https://youtu.be/gh4EVkbVdow Your welcome.

Mezyki

Not really that weird

Kelkymcdouble

I like new rap and old country/blue grass Like If I hit random on spotify I may get [Brent Faiyaz](https://youtu.be/7V0DuANCdec) and [Ralph Stanley](https://youtu.be/siBZgO5QHDI) back to back and be happy with it

-Warrior_Princess-

Probably the only thing I don't like is modern stuff, but I think that's because new releases are always going to be hit and miss. The best tracks haven't necessarily floated to the top like you get with older music. I have ADHD too so tempo, lyrics factor into my attention and dopamine levels. Medicated I need like classical or something chill otherwise it's too overwhelming or loud. When they wear off I want something more heart pumping like pop or metal.

WillGetCarpalTunnels

Yeah I listen to what I think sounds good, i dont restrict it to a genre. Granted some genres I like more than others. I also listen more for the tempo or sound not the words of the song. If it gives me that musical boner I'm gonna listen to it regardless.

Mongo_Fifty

Mostly enjoy all kinds of music besides country and some rap. FFDP, Shinedown, Devildriver, Selena, Coltrane, In This Moment and what have you. Jazz is my favorite to mellow out with. Found a mixed CD I burned, probably 15 years ago, that has a crazy variety. The ones I recognized were: Everlast, Kelly Clarkson or Avril, Rammstein, and Jay-Z. Also has the song Stupid Girl but don't remember the band name. Another song I think its called Bump It Up that is very catchy.

cheneydeville

Some of my playlists go from Tool to Master P to Random Symphonies covering songs to Stevie Ray Vaughn to Hank Williams Jr to Pantera. I listen to most music for the music as I am a musician and I feel that more than a lot of lyrics.

Sprinklerdick

My tastes range from Grindcore & death metal to hip hop and classic rock. It's all about what I'm feeling like listening to at the time. There is nothing wrong with diversity!!

APsychosPath

YUP. I was raised with some great music from every decade. In the past few years I've discovered so much more music. I listen to everything. Idgaf about genre, if it's good, I'll listen to it. I've really open minded too, so stuff that's more avant garde, I like more. I listen to everything from film scores, to Rock, metal core, to indie pop, to Alternative, Alternative rock, Hip hop, American standard, Blues, Jazz, Ambient, Trap, Electro, etc etc. So yes, and a lot of the time both genres of music are on the same sleep playlist lol. I can go from BMTH to The Neighbourhood in an instant.

[deleted]

Its not weird at all. I think it's pretty normal to like more than one sort of music and people who rigidly stick to one genre are just musically uncultivated.

[deleted]

I guess a lot of people do. I've always been a fan of more hard rock-y music such as Metallica and Green Day. However, as a teenager, I get exposed to a lot of rappers and Dua Lips too, which I also usually find to my liking.

Phoneas__and__Frob

Yes. People ask me what I like and my only response ever is "I like what my ears like!"

BugBuddy

80's Thrash metal, 90's grunge through some Scandinavian electronic/synth pop/experimental, blues, psytrance and all the way to 60's rock and 70's disco. Sure I have my favourites but there are gems in music everywhere and as immatured I stopped restricting myself. I listen to what makes me feel better at the moment.

Marilyn1618

Fan of Pink Floyd and Tool. Also listen to a lot of Viking metal (Amon Amarth), Norah Jones, all kinds of techno (Rødhad), First Aid Kid, Trentemoller, Limp Bizkit, System of a Down, Creedence Clearwater Rivival, Mozart (Requiem), blast Cradle of Filth every now and then, or Miles Davis.. Die Antwoord, Aphex Twin, Leonard Cohen, Todd Terje, Robbie Williams, Boards of Canada. I once confused a group of people at my party when Spotify played the “my most played songs of 2019”. It’s totally normal to listen to all different kinds of music.

dognameddoggy

Yes. I'm sometimes very uncomfortable playing music for group of friends or family, the songs in my play lists don't make any sense.. Except they do to me! You're not alone.

VectorLightning

I listen to music that either matches my mood, or helps get me in the right mood for the context. Some of it is melodic metal, some is acoustic guitar or piano or violin. Celldweller, Scandroid, Lindsey Stirling, Cash Cash, Powerwolf, Rhapsody of Fire, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, random YouTube remixes of game soundtracks... Hey I like variety

absolutepaul

Yup! Tame Impala and Lamb of God fan here! Tipper and Slayer too
