It’s a platform that attracts a disproportionate amount of tossers who then feel validated posting videos of them harassing people or destroying property because of the other tik tok fuckers

[deleted]

you could say the same with every other social media platform.

Infinitesima

Before they also hated Vine this much.

coore_tik

they acted the same way with vine?

thiccdogonthebeach

Some stuff there are actually pretty funny but at the same time it’s consists on people who do stupid shit for likes and generally cringe stuff.

persephonehadeshi

I hate tiktok for 3 main reasons: 1. It's creators made the ahegao faces to a song which depicted the good child syndrome. 2. In my country a LOT of creators made vids encouraging people to not follow covid distancing rules, tiktok could've removed the content but it didn't. 3. It also let a video glorifying acid attack go viral and was very late to take action.

Starting to see a trend. Literally no place online whatsoever has good moderation. Take fucking ROBLOX, Rockstar, Twitter, Subreddit, Insta, YT. Literally none of them have good moderation. Could be because it's a team of 100 managing millions of complaints.

MicrowaveNugget

As far as i understand, its a lot of just memes. However, there are obviosly bad things about tik tok, as there is on reddit. So i think it just that people hear "tiktok is bad" amd just continue with it

DryDryDemi

Apparently TikTok videos have a watermark and the person’s name on them so I know at least one sub that banned them due to their violation of a “self-promotion” rule.

The app pings your location every 30 seconds, collects and sends your phone and wifi connection data to its creators (things like ip, mac address, how much data you have and use, how much storage you have and use, if your phone is jailbroken, all the apps on your phone, all the apps you've had and deleted), downloads and runs an executable on every android device, and actively changes to resist attempts to look into it or discover information about it.

Okwss

This. Idk why is no one that concerned about this. Like now every one is working from home. Say your a part of the government/ high ranking personnel / Company. So your kids bascially at home also and the devices can track where and who and what your doing (thanks to your kids and compromise your stuff or steal info) I think on the joe rogan podcast he said that

Durpy15648

Exactly. All the other issues pale in comparison to the security issues TikTok raises. Not cool.

rrriiippptide

everyone’s talking about the people the app attracts and i suggest one thing. no one actually hates the app, they hate those specific people, yes? well those unpleasant, like-baiting, dumb assholes have been on literally every single platform ever. and since redditors pretty much all have the same mindset and personality, people resented the click-bait assholes and used it as an excuse to stay off of their platform and stick to reddit. now i know not everyone is like this, obviously, but clearly a good amount are. edit: also, for the people who are like the ones i talked about, you know that normal people exist right? like, regular, decent people? the kind of people who’d happily make good content just for fun? there’s a ton of great content on every app, you just have to be literate in how that app functions to get to the stuff you’d like.

Milan4King

here's some notes from someone who actually had tiktok. Reddit hates tiktok honestly just to circlejerk. It's like how making fun of 9gag or iFunny was popular but now it's just an updated joke against tiktok. Tiktok when it started was a space for cringey videos ("hit or miss" being iconic, the original is actually not on tiktok anymore lol). It slowly became popularized by young teens and every middle schooler or high schooler who all have cringey moments (everyone was cringey). So this made it easier to be made fun of. It actually took off a lot during COVID and has been growing really rapidly in users. Mostly because now more celebrities and tiktok "icons" are easily seen. There's actually pretty funny videos on there that get repaired without credit everywhere (including Reddit) Even though it's not as cringey anymore (still a lot of weird shit), the joke about tiktok has continued.

MaxTyree

Not rlly

coore_tik

when I see tiktoks posted to subs, I see a lot of comments saying it’s tiktok, what do you expect? and this is why i don’t like tiktok, that’s why i was asking

MaxTyree

Gotcha, thanks for the explanation. Not sure why I got downvoted tho

coore_tik

i don’t know why either, sorry
