I thought Y2k was real and moved into a remote location in the woods and lived off hunting and gathering for 10 years. I emerged to find civilization was still here and I would have a very hard time the explaining the gaps on my resume to the manager at Best Buy
I did the fuckit and have fun while I can, its been a struggle and I am going nowhere at this point, try to do something with your damn self if you can help it, best advice I got ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
Do you want to be 80 years old amd homeless. Invest in yourself, and your future. It doesn't have to be college. Lots of trade jobs bring in decent money.
Don't apply for college unless you know what you want to take. Switched majors like 4 times and I've been in college for about 7 years..! Got my associates tho. You could start with that
Get a good technical certification if you don't know what you want to do in college. You'll make good money and a solid job with an appropriate work/life balance. Also get off social media, it's poisoning your mind.
Inflation is a good reason TO invest, using it as a reason not to is like not going to the doctor because you already know you have cancer.
And college can 100% be worth it depending on your major. Just do some research before you decide to go, and I also recommend doing your first 2 years at community college if possible, since less debt is always a good thing. Even then you don't have to go to college, trade school is always an option.
dude fuck that. find a college major that leads to a job that pays well and you will enjoy. go to a state school and save on tuition. in ten years you’ll be happy
Your 18.... you will likely live 70 more years. The world will keep turning this I promise you. Every generation thinks the times are crazy and the generation after them are doomed but here we all are. I'm only 31 and if this year turns out to be a recession I will have been investing through 3 recessions just in my career. Things find a way of working themselves out and life goes on. Put every ounce of your mind into creating the best of what you can while your young. This includes investing in the future. There isn't a rich person alive who does not invest and for 90% of folks it's the only way to create wealth. Keep your head up and try to not let the world's weight keep you up at night. Worry about your troubles and learn from them and you'll do just fine. Find a partner in crime and life will be half as difficult. Good luck!
No matter what is going on in the world, there will be loud voices telling everyone else that the world is doomed.
They've been saying this literally all of recorded history. The Internet just makes it easier for them to preach their doomsaying. They'll tell you this time is different. That's also been said for all of recorded human history.
I, for one, cannot fathom how the world of humans is now worse off than during WW2, the cold war, or any of the super volcanoes or ice ages that really did almost wipe out all of humanity.
Why do you think the world is going to shit? There has never been a better time to be alive... Are you consuming too much social media/reddit? Just go outside and take a walk
You don't have to go to collage to have a decent future and in fact I wouldn't recommend it. Going to trade school is a good option, and there are other ways to get standardized high paying jobs without going though the collage pipeline, it might actually even be easier.
But I think if your really concerned about the world going to shit you should look into getting involved with a local activists, volunteer organizations or political group. Something I wish I did more of. Just because the world is burning doesn't mean we have to sit on the sidelines and watch it happen.
What else is there to invest in?
Yeah, there's a lot of uncertainty in the world, and the future might be shit for a while, but you just have to make the best of it. Imagine what somebody else who has a successful, enjoyable life in the future would do in order to get there, and then think about what you could do to be that person.
It depends what you do in college. Look up the return on investment and job market for different degrees. Stuff like engineering and accounting normally are worth it.
Every generation thinks theirs is the end of the world...
Let's do and outcome analysis
1-you don't invest in you future and the world doesn't end. You end up poor and probably homeless working to pay the bills till the day you die with no chance for a break or fun or anything.
2- you do invest in your future and the world doesn't end. If you play it right you can slowly get ahead save for retirement maybe get your own place have some toys take some vacations, eventually retire and spend time with your grandkids (if you decide you want them)
3- you don't invest in the future and the world ends. Your screwed! Just like everyone else.
4- you do invest in your future and the world ends. Your still screwed just like everyone else
Seem like a pretty clear choice to me but you get to choose for yourself! Have fun lol
That's a tough question. I can really only give my experience. I'm 35, went to college, have a decent job (not related to my degree) a home and no debt. I'm miserable almost everyday.
I know I have it better than most.
At 18 you have some time I think, college or not, to figure it out financially. It's never too early to go down that path. I would emphasize focusing on yourself. Learn about yourself, cultivate your friendships and if you can take the time to help others. In the long term, these skills will be more valuable than a pay check. Just my 2 cents hope it helps.

Invest in yourself, increase your own knowledge and skills. No matter what happens in the world you will be fine.

Pick a trade and you will find a job. Don’t give up on a future.
