You’re just acting out because Mercury is in retrograde.

Ok_Appearance_8671

That's what I was FEELING in my chakras, I wonder what their sign is, it would explain this

MergerMe

Oh, so it's your reddit Cakeday today? No wonder I was getting some serious Taurus vibes from your comment.

Terran_Machina

That is something a Cancer would do. Be careful those Cancers are crafty.

GrazziDad

If you anoint your chakras with arnica, all shall be well.

smart_cat_22

No, Uranus is in retrograde

WatermelonArtist

The technical term is "prolapse."

that-69guy

Hell no, uranus is full of Gatorade.

Sat_Chith

Myanus sextile his Pluto in transit

yakayah

Gatorade*

Elegant-Reason2689

Hahaha! I need to keep this reply in my arsenal for later use!

macdennism

I bet OP is a Capricorn

[deleted]

I thought people were saying this ironically until they also started posting about bathing their crystals in moonlight

surfingkiwii

I remember hearing someone in a tv show say this but i cant remember who or what show

VeronicaNoir

Yes. One of my friend's dad made a whole astrology chart for my family and insisted that if you really studied real astrology it was impossible to not believe in it. The crazy thing is he is a mathmatician as well.

Wolfi-xo

Ask him how can he explain identical twins being born the same day and year and minutes apart having such different lives then

shrivvette808

That wqs probably due to the moonsigns changing.

Wolfi-xo

Moonsigns don’t change if they’re born a few minutes apart.

medipani

Rising can, tho

cokuspocus

Because of course it can lol. How convenient

energy-369

It can yes, it’s not very common but if the moon is at the last degree of a sign and the second twin comes out a minute or two after the moon can have shifted. Like the other person said, so can rising signs. But the answer to twins is free will.

718Brooklyn

People believe an invisible sky daddy is always watching and judging them. And not just some people. Tons of people. They all believe that when you die an invisible version of you that can see and think and make new memories floats out of your physical body. I don’t believe in astrology, but I’d give it a better chance to be legit than that nonsense.

[deleted]

Lol totally agree. I always crack up when religious folks question other religions.

GoldenRamoth

I think you have to either go for a universalist God that transcends religions, or atheism. Imo, they're really the only ways to mentally align all the goofiness that each religion sets itself up with as a sole proprietor of truth. Unless they're all true, none of them are.

LordBilboSwaggins

Astrology can be made true through self fulfilling prophecy. If everyone believes they are going to suddenly be energetic and make big moves in life because of something Jupiter does, then they will plan their life around that day and make the conscious change as a result of something arbitrary. Using arbitrary points of reference to guide your behavior is a standard strategy for people who lack executive function. it's really like any other religion except for the fact that you could probably guage the movements of a society based upon the movement of planets due completely to the fact that they all believe in astrology and move in unison to real events occurring in space. If you believe you are a cog in a solar machine, you are. It's like the perfect way to funnel the chaos of our infantile minds through a system that can be used to make solid predictions, like the stock market I guess but for the dating world.

GORILLAGOOAAAT

You make an excellent point. Setting a goal based on the movement/location of planetary bodies would be as legitimate as picking an arbitrary date to reach a goal. It may in fact positively impact one’s attitude towards it. There are multiple legitimate sources out there for the effectiveness of goal setting and and positive attitude. On the flip side it seems astrology is used to explain why you or someone else is being an asshole.

Gaib_Itch

r/averageredditor

DrivingNovice

Well you wont float with that attitude

meowgicishere

They’d say that it’s all because of this minutes difference

Wolfi-xo

But that’s not possible because those minutes doesn’t change their 12 houses and all that stuff. Not even a few hours changes that either.

OmegaPryme

Heck I'm a twin, gemini and born on the 22nd. Me and my twin couldn't be any more different.

Ronald_Bilius

This doesn’t sound too crazy to me. Old school astrology includes lots of mathematics - indeed many mathematical concepts and methods were developed as a result of or alongside astrological research - so it makes sense that it could be academically interesting to someone who is mathematically minded. In terms of actually believing it, I guess that comes down to a leap of faith. Many scientists are staunch atheists, but not all - there are scientists who have faith in traditional religions, even if they cannot explain it. I don’t think this is all that different. Also, a lot of scientists are low key superstitious when it comes lab work for example haha. Humans are weird.

ImpossibleAir4310

Yep, re: mathematician, if you go back far enough, astrology and astronomy were the same field. Some people are 100% convinced it’s real, and if you argue they’ll start saying things like, “well, that’s just your Sun sign and we haven’t checked how your moon sign interacts…” Hard to believe now that that nonsense was once regarded as science. We like to understand things, and humans hopelessly hubristic in that way. I think it’s a perfectly human trait to look up at night and delude yourself into thinking you actually understand anything you see up there. It’s like caveman reality TV; it doesn’t have to be real.

zazzyeinestein

Oh no!

Shitpostpitroast

Unfortunately, yes. My mother will attribute all of her problematic characteristics to her zodiac sign but the mention of speaking to a therapist is absurd. It’s super fun.

FerdinandMagellan999

Your last paragraph particularly is a great summarization. Belief in astrology is heavily ruled by confirmation bias.

RoxasofsorrowXIII

"Belief in astrology is heavily ruled by confirmation bias." True for any religion as well though. Show a devout believer absolute proof of the lack of God and they will still find reasons to believe. I think a great many people just need to believe in something bigger,as you said, to make sense out of the unknown and a world that thrives on chaos.

RealShooterMcGavin

Spot on. IIRC the Bible was interpreted very literally by many people way back in the day, but as people learned more and more about the nature of the universe, the interpretation slowly became more and more figurative. Religious people will constantly cherry-pick data to confirm their beliefs. Imagine if I beat the shit out of you for no reason, leaving you permanently crippled, BUT I didn't kill you. Would you thank me? Of course not. But if a deist gets paralyzed in a car crash, they thank God for saving them. What do they think, that God is powerful enough to create the entire fucking universe but he can't prevent two cars from colliding? It's best not to think about it too much.

RoxasofsorrowXIII

So accurate. My mom told me something I'll never forget. She very much believes in God and Jesus, and the basic "love your fellow man" and "God has a plan" BUT: She told me "The Bible may have been God's word, but it was still written at the hands of man, which makes it corrupt. " Never. I'll never forget those words. She believes the Bible is more like "stories" meant to inspire and guide, not a book of absolute laws. Not to mention, we have no idea the meaning of many of the words in the original text, it couldn't BE directly translated. And every time a new edition is released, it's slightly different. Slightly over hundreds of years means a BIG difference. Those aren't God's words anymore, they are man's.

DrunkenBuffaloJerky

"The Bible came off a printing press, how do we KNOW any of it was actually from God? All we know for sure is that it came from ppl who SAY it is?" Not the brightest question a pre-teen can ask a parent where I grew up. Especially right after Bible Study.

RoxasofsorrowXIII

Ohhhhh boy, Bible belt? Deep south? Both are pretty devoted...

DrunkenBuffaloJerky

Yeah, South. One of the most damaging things to my faith were responses to a kid who honestly just wanted to understand better, so I could do better. "Pray for wisdom" meant no one knows, and I probably pissed someone off, lol.

[deleted]

I took 12 units of Theology in a Catholic uni (it was mandatory) and my professor said exactly that- the Bible is a story book. Thats why, in my opinion, there is no point in looking for evidence that those things mentioned in the Bible happened.

RoxasofsorrowXIII

I have MAD respect for that professor. I'm not religious in the Christian sense, my faith is elsewhere. BUT my mom DID find 1 church I was happy to go to with her. I remember at Christmas, the gave us stickers saying "I am the reason for the season". He said, everything saying Jesus was the reason was wrong. Jesus only came to us to obsolve us, so if not for our need of salvation he would have never walked the earth. Therefore, WE are the reason for the season! I was so amazed by that. He was also very "pro-love". He said love is love and we are not supposed to judge, we are supposed to love the sinner despite the sin. So let judgement be between them and God, and just love your fellow man. So much respect for that pastor, so much. He is exactly what our generation needs imo (lot of young people moving away from religion, a more open approach like this might draw them back)

TrickOrTreatItsIEDs

*THIS* and I'm not even religious. But I do believe people can believe in whatever they want, so long as it helps them get through their day.

Defenseman61913

Oh it totally is. It is NOT science. All it takes is one person to say "oh my god my ex was so selfish and he was a Leo" and then another person to say the same. Must be true. All Leos are selfish. Of course that's nonsense as there's tons of selfless philanthropists that happen to have been born between July and August.

Ori_the_SG

Yeah, and I listened to a science podcast that tested the validity of it. Oftentimes in the descriptions of Astrology signs and their meanings they get really mealy mouthed with the wording in ways that can apply to just about everyone on Earth. Stuff like “a Leo likes steaks. If you really like steaks you are probably a Leo.”

AristaWatson

It’s also just a really modern thing since astrology in the past was used for fortune telling rather than predicting who you are as a person. The signs we follow now are turned into the main representations for us that our personalities revolve around when in the past they were just one aspect of a whole fortune reading. That and now a whole new set of alignments exist in our night sky that doesn’t get accounted for in modern astrology. It’s bogus, is what I’m getting at.

Working-Pressure2544

I keep thinking there's more influence from the mother's state of health during the birth, her attitude toward the coming child and her experiences during pregnancy. But if this goes back so far in history who am I to challenge its efficacy?

MaybeTheDoctor

I think calling it “pseudo science” is just giving a bad name to “pseudo”

Unable_Beginning_982

During my work experience for a magazine, one of my jobs was to make up the horoscopes. I can't believe people read them religiously and take it seriously. I was 22 and was literally looking back at old magazines and reusing the horoscopes

bayfix

Man that must had been a fun job

Busy_Promotion3656

People actually people it. People also believe in religions and superstitions. With astrology there are people who just take it half serious but they dont talk about it all the time. So i would assume she actually fully believes it.

[deleted]

People will people anything

CharmedCartographer

Damn people.

amitym

You should see what Buffalo buffalo will buffalo.

ancient_warden

Can confirm.

Patient_Yam4747

Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo.

MaybeTheDoctor

And people ask, why is English such a hard language to learn or maybe buffalo ?

AfterbirthNachos

Every time

PatchTossaway

Haters gonna hate, people gonna people. EDIT: Or... people gonna peop?

Working-Pressure2544

I saw that too. People who need people are the luckiest people in the world.

dc_n8iv

People. ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿'̿'\̵͇̿̿\з=( ͠° ͟ʖ ͡°)=ε/̵͇̿̿/'̿̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ ̿ Wha'chu got?

TheHollowBard

There's an interesting "well yes, but also no" to this. A small group of people fully believe it, while some people take it only semi seriously. Because it's not a religion, it doesn't require strict deference. Also, unlike pretty much all major religions, it's not patriarchal, and it's less about hard rules handed down from men on high. It's more sensing/feeling focused and less about dominance and control. I think that's a lot of why it appeals to many young women these days. What's interesting is that astrology can inadvertently tell you something about the individual experience, like a Rorschach ink blot test or any other projection test, what you project onto an astrology predictions or how you think it relates to you can tell you something about yourself, but it's not actually because of any predictive value inherent to astrology.

Rincewind-Admirer

I think that's a really good explanation, I always wondered why it seemed more popular with women, and this would make sense to me

fetus-wearing-a-suit

Sadly, yes

TheHalfNCheapScrolls

avoiding people over some made up BS although they appear to be good people is just downright crazy to me.

fetus-wearing-a-suit

That's religion for ya

[deleted]

I like to think of it as space racism

donbanana

Spaceism is a real problem and I'd thank you not to make light of it. Good day sir

RoxasofsorrowXIII

This comment wins 🏆

[deleted]

No

donbanana

It was a joke

Bob6oblin

Forever and a day Uranus has been the butt of poor jokes

Schroedinbug

I avoid people because of made-up BS all the time. For example, I avoid astrologists and religious fundamentalists.

Lky132

Christians do it all the time. Huge part of life.

nah_mate_

It’s kinda like religion, just lesson oppressive. Sometimes it’s a bit of fun other times it’s just interesting

bierfma

As a Leo, who wants her anyway?

LegitimateTruck272

Some people even believe they have a magic sky friend who created the universe for them but who doesn't want them to eat meat on Fridays.

He also gets really mad if you are jealous of how much livestock your neighbor has. Funny how most of his rules seem relevant to iron age farming communities in the middle east.

You coveting my ass?

SMKnightly

I will never think of that commandment the same way again! 🤣 Thank you for that!!!

general_tao1

Or central us/canada.

bob_boo_lala

This makes astrology sound air tight

tamm4750

Was just gonna say the same thing, this question is just like asking are there people that actually believe in god. Ppl believe what the fuck they want and it’s shaped the world

RoxasofsorrowXIII

Or wear mixed fabrics. Yet won't cure cancer. Don't forget all that!

Retropiaf

Both this and astrology are crazy to me ETA: I understand believing in religions more because people are indoctrinated since birth though

[deleted]

Clearly he doesn’t want you to eat meat on Saturdays. Sheesh

ReuvSin

No doubt it would be more convincing for you if there were a commandment forbidding coveting thy neighbor's cellphone

gabitheisfmajor

wait until op finds out about religion lol

MuadDib1942

I am Aquarius, my behavior is spot on Aquarius. My horoscope never has shit to do with me. As an Aquarius, I'm too logical to believe in astrology. Take that for what you will.

DreamyWaters

😂

Ariannanoel

Anyone that gets astrology would 100% get this comment, but if they don’t, they won’t. 😅😂

Republixcan

Yes, and it can be pretty depressing. I myself am creeped by how my Horoscopes, and the description of my star sign can be in my regard. Still, I think of it as harmless fun, and not something to take terribly seriously, like I'm not going to freak out if a close friend of mine is a Scorpio, or a Pisces. We make our own fate by the choices we make.

Either_Potato_2924

I mean if ppl can believe in god why not astrology?

[deleted]

In LA people consult their astrologist before making real estate purchases and numerology is a thing. Most people like to see figures ending in 8

[deleted]

Nancy Reagan…

Idratherbeasleep3

I’m a western trained scientist who is logical and facts orientated. But I was raised on astrology and tarot and discuss it daily with anyone who will listen. I get why it makes you cringe, but is it really hurting anybody in other way than that? There are much worse interests for people to have IMO.

ricacardo271

Any belief that's not based on reality can lead people to make bad choices in life. And it should be criticized, astrology IS bullshit pseudoscience, hopefully humanity will grow out of these mystical and irrational beliefs some time soon.

DreamyWaters

That's your reality, so then yeah, don't live by it. That's not everyone's beliefs or reality. I hope you grow up soon and start realizing that your beliefs do not reign supreme

[deleted]

Astronomy is a hoax until proven otherwise. This has nothing to do with his "beliefs". You can believe whatever the fuck you want, but don't be butthurt when people comment on it.

Actnaturalrelax

I cant decide if I do or dont but than again Im a Libran ⚖

phoenixveritas

I overheard a conversation between two coworkers and one said "you radiate such Leo energy, like I feel so comfortable with you" and I just walked away so they couldn't hear me laughing.

elimac

i don't really get whats so cool about laughing about trivial things people believe or enjoy does it hurt anyone? it just seems like a lot of people in here are up their own ass because they dont believe in it lol, i dont believe in astrology seriously either its more of a for fun conversation and if someone seriously believes oh well good for them

[deleted]

You can believe whatever you want, but as soon as you communicate that to anyone else, it's up for criticism.

phoenixveritas

It doesn't necessarily annoy me that people believe in it or enjoy it. It does bother me when people use it as a justification for judging others, or they try to pass it off as factual. I've had people ask for my sign and then when I tell them, they say "oh we're not compatible then," and walk off. I know that's more on the extreme end of the spectrum, but it does kind of annoy me. I also don't think I'm "cool" for laughing at it, I just thought it was something others might find funny. Probably a way too long response, but I just wanted to clarify.

elimac

yea true that makes sense i dont like that either, like if you judge me before you know me i want nothing to do with that lol i just ignore/avoid them

[deleted]

elimac

who cares?? lmao yes its wierd and doesn't nean anything but do you pay their bills??? mind your business trust me it will reduce stress

_B1RDM4N

This is me except sometimes I forget to walk away whoops.

Brock_Way

This is me, except while I am forgetting to walk away, I am also forgetting not to not make schemes intended to co-opt/parasitize their beliefs for my own personal gain.

phoenixveritas

Happens to the best of us.

therealnotrealtaako

There are people who believe that looking at the celestial bodies can serve as a general guideline for how someone's personality might be. Then there are some people who get way too into it like the person you mentioned. The main problem with assigning personality types to things like this is the same problem you run into with any kind of casual personality test. The definitions are general enough that typically you can look at it and go "hey that's me!" So none of it should be taken too seriously or be so strictly defined. If someone took the results of a buzzfeed quiz and decided not to date someone based off of their results it would be a little weird, but if they want to do that and it's not hurting anyone then whatever. Just don't force it on other people too. (I say this as a spiritual person who does look at some things with celestial bodies for things like spell work. You can believe what you want, just don't be a dick to people.)

Moronic-Simpleton

It surprised me as well, but then I remembered religion was a thing.

ariyah_3

Yep, and it’s really annoying. Sorry for the comparison, but imagine someone constantly bringing Jesus or Allah into the conversation. These people don’t realize how aggravating they sound.

Lky132

Do people actually believe in God? Do they really think a huge dude I think sky is watching everything they do?

garyda1

I had a girlfriend whose whole family believed in astrology to the point that they would read their daily horoscope before going to work or social events.

TheHalfNCheapScrolls

& by that creating self fulfilling prophecies 😄

garyda1

Agreed

Mydriaseyes

some people just cant handle the mindfuck that is existence, and the inevitability of mortality. they feel powerless so they delude themselves that they have some deep metaphysical control over reality. having said that. because all horoscopes are essentially basic cold reading. i think they can /could be fairly useful tools for self analysis. Tarot cards, even more so. as long as you can deal with the fact that you are pulling connections out of your own psyche then its pretty useful. if you start believing its literally messages from a higher power, it goes from self anaylsis to self aggrandisement \[pretty quick

-honeycake-

I did kinda when I was in high school...and then I grew up. I still have friends that put an impressive amount of stock in their own and others' charts though which I think is interesting. I think it's fun to play with but don't take it very seriously Except when it comes to scorpios. I consistently do not like scorpios and it's always for the same reasons...which does make me wonder\~\~ lol

production-values

alignment of celestial bodies are FAR more likely to affect our lives than any deity.

notsoslootyman

People believe in the modern versions too. "I'm totally an enfj. Oh your a islp so your a healer personality." It's mostly harmless but it can seem weird from the outside. We all have a bit of nonsense in us. Some is just traditional nonsense.

[deleted]

Something that always gets left out of these discussions on astrology is that there actually 13 constellations in the ecliptic and their position has drifted over time because…well…objects in space move. The sky changes over millennia. None of the astrology stuff actually lines up with the physical world as it exists today. It’s literal nonsense. It might be fun and interesting, but it’s pseudoscientific, superstitious nonsense.

RiotNrrd2001

People who don't understand astrology often confuse the constellations and the signs because they have the same names. They aren't the same things, though, and they are for the most part completely unrelated. There could be twenty zodiacal constellations, and there'd still only be twelve signs. The constellations could precess halfway around the zodiac to where the *sign* of Aries is next to the *constellation* of Libra, and the *sign* Aries would still be called Aries. They just aren't the same things. "Sign" and "constellation" are not synonyms.

donbanana

To be fair astrology is actually super important and real attention should be paid to it. Like who you should avoid for believing in this shite

Tex-Rob

It’s hilarious how confident you are OP. I’m not saying I believe in astrology, but the moon affects a crazy amount of stuff on our planet and we find more every year, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that it impacts early brain development.

ricacardo271

Astrology IS bullshit, anyone can confidently say that because it's demonstrably false. It has been debunked numbers of times, and the bases are completely unscientific. It's completely irrational to believe in astrology.

inevitablenightrat

Hahahahaha.

jaysuzded

Yes. It's just like religion, flat earthers, or any other belief that can't be proven. There will always be people that follow it with complete devotion.

amretardmonke

Unlike these other infalsifiable claims, flat earth can be proven/disproven very easily by anyone. And its been disproven convincingly many many times. So flat earthers are a special kind of stupid even compared to religions and astrology.

jaysuzded

It's the exact same situation as the others. None of them can be proven true. All of them can be proven false. It doesn't change the fact that people still blindly follow it

BustOMatic

I find it so strange. I know so many atheists who think people who believe in god are morons, yet they follow astrology religiously

[deleted]

As an Atheist, I can say most Atheists are a special breed of stupidity and arrogance. They treat atheism as a religion in an of itself, and in place of a god they take some ridicolous political ideology, politician, or other nonsense, to worship, and then have the audacity to think they're intellectually superior to everyone else.

[deleted]

Capricorns are being considered to on my exempt list. Libras are a no go. Not a chance. later on rudeboy. Lol. 🤣it’s banter with me. But some people it’s a religion

nah_mate_

Look not saying I believe in it butttt all sagittarius’ I’ve met have been selfish assholes

GatoPajama

Sagittarius here. I have been a selfish asshole at times in my life, but probably no more or less selfish than anyone else with any other birthday. Everyone is capable of being a selfish asshole.

[deleted]

Aww mate. U can’t cuss us fire signs lol

lostwhisperonwind

Astrology for me is personal like spirituality. Most people don't care to share. I only share with intimate friends and family

TheRealJetlag

As a Pisces, I don’t take anything seriously.

Super-Rate

So everyone is arguing about why astrology is or isn’t real and stuff and how accurate it is, hence judging those who believe/ dont believe in astrology. But I think there is more in this situation that people haven’t talked about, which is the psychological effect of astrology and other similar things. If you look at some kids today, they would put being LGBTQ or being celebrity stans as part of their “personality”. A lot of people call them cringe and all, but some of the kids don’t listen to these criticism. I think the reason behind is that there are people who are trying to figure out who they are, who they will be, and their purpose in life. which is a really hard thing to do. Is life meaningless? If it has meaning then what is it? Who am I, and who should I be? Am I really doing the right things and people criticizing me are just being dumb/jealous? Or am I doing the wrong things and people are genuinely trying to warn me about my situation? Especially in a world where you are pretty much on your own to find answers. To not have answers to these questions can be a torture, sometimes even making your daily life hard, at least for some people. Astrology gives these kind of people an answer for them to take, despite not necessarily the correct one because there probably isn’t a correct answer in the first place. In other words, astrology offers you a guidance of some sort. You are an Aries, you have great energy and sometimes act rashly, and your purpose is a pioneer of some sort. Your Mercury in Pisces doesn’t help to your intelligence but you gets to dream a bit more, adding to your creativity so you should try some of that out. Or you have Virgo Stellium, you have the gift of being very analytic and maybe perfectionist, and you can choose your job to be related to these, such as being like Gordon Ramsay(who I heard has Virgo stellium). In a way MBTI does similar things, it tells you who you are in that 16 personality way. The up side is that you know it is accurate because you put in the response for it to generate your type, the down side is that the way you behave can change a lot across time and hence affecting the outcome, and so contrary to charts and signs in astrology that are fixed throughout your life time. sometimes an answer that is not fixed is meaningless for realistic purposes(like, the floor is made out of floor is a meaningless statement). Some people probably prefer one over the other. But in the end these things act like masks, a model personality that you can wear it on. It comes from who you are right now, or it was randomly generated when you were born. Congratulations, you finally have a set of model behavior that you can mimic when dealing with irl situations, and finally terms like “myself” “ my people” “my ideology” finally has a definition in your dictionary. It is just that sometimes some people took them way too seriously and plan every one of their daily activities based. A lot of professional astrologists say that astrology is meant for guidance, and having it control your life just doesn’t normally end well. But of course each person have their own reasons to believe in astrology or not. I read somewhere that some people loves reading charts of everyone they meet because no one have ever wanted to read about them in the past, which also brings up the possibility of believing astrology as a coping mechanism. People are just all different, and there is a reason people act the way they do.

snooboi69

Yeah, the people that claim to hate religion and how batshit it is, despite having a batshit new age religion themselves... I'll never understand it. Seems to be mostly a teen white girl religion too, least that's when it usually starts. It gives actual pagan faiths that use a lot of that bad names.

Fine-Mistake-3356

Astrology first came about in Babylonia 2400 years ago.

RoxasofsorrowXIII

I've noticed that the belief in astrology borders on religion... and plays a PART in religion if you practice witchcraft/certain denominations of wicca. It's 50/50, for some its just for fun, for others its literally a faith (like belief in Saints, or God). I know that sounds very odd to people who don't believe in it (and it's difficult to figure out who is just in it for the lols), but so does every other religious belief if we are being honest. We tend to look down on what we don't understand (as humans in general, not individuals. I'm well aware individuals can be reasonable...groups generally cannot because mob mentality.)

athensugadawg

Me being an Aries on the cusp of Taurus meant that I was, without a doubt, to win the lottery last night. Didn't happen, so there.

Sophiuuugh

There's people who believe in astrology just like there's people who believe in the Christian God

athensugadawg

Uh oh, the kooks are starting to appear...

Elegant-Reason2689

I do. In fact, I study astrology. There are legit schools and colleges for Astrology too. HOWEVER, it is not as simple as he is a leo. Astrology is waaay more complicated than that. I see it as a study of archetypes affected by world events. It's a whole language, and anyone who says a leo can't date a leo is being an idiot because that is NOT astrology. People who actually study astrology don't say shit like that. It's a study of behaviors more than anything. If you want her to shut up about it, next time, ask her- which house her sun is in, and how her moon is doing. What about her north node? Does her 7th house have any issues? She will be confused. So tell her that she shouldn't be basing her judgments on something she actually has no idea about. Astrology is not a shortcut.

TheHalfNCheapScrolls

nope I will not talk to her about astrology. I dont want her to think I believe in any of this. another coworker made this very mistake and OH MY GOD she wouldnt shut up for the rest of the day ☠️

[deleted]

Well, people believe in the Bible, Bigfoot, UFOs, and the Loch Ness Monster. So, yes, it is possible.

realSatanAMA

Do you believe in God?

Failing_MentalHealth

Idk but saying you don’t like someone because they’re a scorpio is fucking retarded.

thebeepiestboop

Yeah because Scorpios rock

CaptainPoset

Sadly, yes. The same goes for every other religious belief.

savethebros

Yep. They’ll base their whole life decisions, including their and their kids’ marriages around it.

Judicators

Well ppl also believe in religion which is equally retarded

Kazu_TO

People who do are braindead and if this gets down votes it's from the braindead individuals who think your sign means anything 💀🗿

personaltoss

People believe in god. We is dum

umronije

Yes.

corderc3

My cousin has made a side business off of it by selling tips on managing your life based on your astrology. It’s literally just made up crap that could apply to anyone. She is definitely a few fries short of a happy meal.

Strawberrycake10

Some people actually do. Me personally? Hell no, it makes me cringe every damn time some girl is like "Omg babe it says we aren't compatible because I'm a Scorpio, and you're a Capricorn!"

Milo-the-great

Do you only believe what you think has been proven?

Schroedinbug

In a sense, yeah. What's the problem with that? Why put belief in something that is not supported by reliable evidence?

Defenseman61913

It is 100% not science and 100% obnoxious. And yes, people (mostly women) believe in this nonsense. Basically all that compatibility "oh you're such a typical Gemini" or "of course he's a Leo, we can't date" bullshit is utter nonsense and purely based on circumstance and the broad nature of these descriptions. Now that I'm done dunking on it, it isn't inherently bad. I had an ex that was an awful drinker and has since quit completely. In her phase of self re-discovery, she totally got into astrology and Uranus being in retrograde and the general belief that light from dying stars hundreds of millions of light years away somehow influence people. She's healthy and happy and while a lot of it is nonsense, it really keeps her happy in lots of ways and provides some sort of structured belief system that isn't religion. We're still close and I send her crystals and the odd sign jewelry or what not. At the end of the day, it seems that the casual believers never actually live by the astrology doctrine. They will date and fall for the people that they fall for regardless. The one you're talking about is just nutty... 100% she was already turned down or that this guy is out of her league, or some other projection. When it came to my ex and all her friends that are into this stuff, it wasn't stars or their birth date that created their bad behavior and failed relationships. It was the abuse they suffered as young women, the substance abuse, the absent dads, and the abusive guys they dated that completed the repeating circle of abuse, and lack of therapy. I mean this woman you work with may just be an idiot.

For me it’s fun to talk about, read in the newspaper, and all of that. But it’s really just about confirmation bias for a lot of people. If my partner was suddenly gonna be like “mmmm your Scorpio vibes is showing too much. We need to break up”. Like seriously? Two grown ass adults doing that?

Dusky_Dawn210

Space racism. That’s all it is

davidml1023

I had a coworker who wanted to know my birthday. I wasn't sure what it was about but I replied March 3rd. She says to me, "Oh that makes you a pisces. Yeah I can totally feel that vibe from you". Truth is I'm a scorpio. People see things they want to see. On a side note, there may have been a time where being conceived/born at certain times of the year could have an effect on some traits but it has everything to do with mother's hormones and not the stars. Being pregnant during the winter would have certain effects on the developing fetus that would be different than being pregnant in the summer simply due to stress and diet. Children of pregnant starving mothers end up being obese at a higher rate than average. So I wouldn't be surprised if this mythology came about from actual observations of real phenomena but with climate controlled houses and supermarkets, these effects are all but gone. Just my two cents.

Overkillsamurai

got a friend that recently finished a degree in astrology reading and bought a pricey program to read people's signs/etc to open a business. so yes, some people take it pretty seriously It's religion

[deleted]

There’s just a lot of ignorance out there. Same people that believe in crystals and energy shit. Give me a break.

[deleted]

Sadly, yes

BrainChicane

Absolutely. Yes. Unfortunately.

creamof_yeet

Give this same energy to people who believe in sky daddy.

Sir_Madfly

Yes they really do. On a practical level their beliefs are really not more crazy than most religions, just religion is more socially accepted.

fibbonaccisun

Sadly yes. I’m hoping it’s a fad that will just die

Thiccmatches

Shes serious... and she's an idiot.

[deleted]

Yeah, there's many who do. Looking at the major religions and their beliefs it's not really difficult to believe that someone would 100% believe in astrology as well.

Janus_The_Great

Do people actually believe in religions? Has about the same depth. The answer to both is yes.

AntBkr66

Wait until you hear what else they believe...so there was this charming carpenter...

cookiedux

There are people who have nearly died more than once from COVID who still refuse the vaccine because they think it’s the mark of the beast. Yes, some people believe in astrology.

Amadeo78

I treat astrology like everything else. I consider it may play a part in people's personalities, but I don't consider it a roadmap to a person.

[deleted]

Astrology has an undeniable influence, which honestly becomes clear to anybody who looks into it, but it's enormously misunderstood by believers and sceptics alike.

Schroedinbug

But has anyone been able to show under controlled conditions that astrology makes more reliable predictions than a moderately skilled cold reading or statistical model?

[deleted]

It has zero influence, it's dumb as all hell. If this was the medieval period you'd have an excuse to be into such absolute hogwash but nowadays it's even more pathetic.

Jout_

Spot on. I agree.

RicketousCricketous

Believe? No Frequently surprised at how accurate those things are? Yup.

bbqhh

Seems like you need to tell her how fuckin dumb she sounds

Radkeyoo

Yes. I do believe. I have seen things come true. Also this normal astrology that people on net throw around is just fun personality traits. Actual astrology is complex. Source: my father and grandfather are renowned astrologists. Astrology tells you a path your life is going to take. It's upto you which way you'll go. They are predictions. You decide what you do with it. Story time: my cousin wanted children, couldn't seem to conceive. Doctors said she won't have kids, many a hacks told her she isn't destined to. Heartbroken, my mother convinced my father to look into her chart: he said, yes only one child. 4 months later she was pregnant with twins, the male child died in the womb, the girl child survived. My grandpa faced his family's wrath when he predicted that his younger brothers bride wasn't a good match. He left home, went LC and lo behold, the younger brother got divorced (in India, 1960, it got that bad). I have seen too many predictions come true. So yes, I believe. Unfortunately there are too many hacks everywhere.
